The self-affine measure associated with an iterated function system and a weight is uniquely determined. The problem of determining whether a self-affine measure is absolutely continuous or singular has been studied extensively in recent years. In the present paper we consider the singularity of certain self-affine measures. We obtain a sufficient condition for such measures being singular. Two applications of this result are given, which extend several known results in a simple manner.  相似文献

We examine homogeneous cosmological models with arbitrary (uniform) motion of matter. We have shown the presence of an oscillatory mode of the BLK type when moving toward a cosmological singularity in models of II–IV and VI–IX Bianchi types. We have formulated constraints on the velocities under which the oscillatory mode degenerates to Kästner asymptotics.  相似文献

The semigroup of values of irreducible space curve singularities is the set of intersection multiplicities among hypersurfaces and the given curve. It is an invariant of the singularity, and for plane curves it characterizes the equisingularity type considered by Zariski. For space curve singularities the semigroup of values is a numerical semigroup and it can not be computed by means of the exponents of any Puiseux parametrization, as in the plane case. We obtain an algorithm for calculating the semigroup of values of a space curve singularity, which determines the generators of the semigroup and the valuation ideals associated with the semigroup. Phase transformation plays an important role in thermodynamics and materials science. Based on the theory of singularities, a new method to construct phase diagrams is presented. Analysing singularities on base of root sequences, see Tamaschke [16], will help to develop singularity graphs, where workings by H. Whitney, R. Thom, and V. I. Arnold provide fundamentals. The generated singularity graphs build the starting point for singularity phase diagrams. A powerful characteristic of such singularity graphs is that higher-dimensional surfaces can be transformed to a two-dimensional diagram. The attained singularity diagram can be used in materials science for analytical models of temperature-concentrated diagrams. As tools from algebra and analysis build a sound basis for singularity diagrams, it is possible to evolve computer software generating these phase diagrams. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The problem of approximating singularity sets by analytic varieties has been considered by several authors. The present work deals with singularity sets projecting over a finitely connected domain. We consider the Cauchy problem for the multidimensional Burgers equation with a small dissipation parameter and use the matching method to construct an asymptotic solution near the singularity determined by the vector field structure at the initial instant. The method that we use allows tracing the evolution of the solution with a hierarchy of differently scaled structures and giving a rigorous mathematical definition of the asymptotic solution in the leading approximation. We discuss the relation of the considered problem to different models in fundamental and applied physics.  相似文献

We are concerned with the sparse approximation of functions on the d-dimensional unit cube [0,1]d, which contain powers of distance functions to lower-dimensional k-faces (corners, edges, etc.). These functions arise, e.g., from corners, edges, etc., of domains in solutions to elliptic PDEs. Usually, they deteriorate the rate of convergence of numerical algorithms to approximate these solutions. We show that functions of this type can be approximated with respect to the H1 norm by sparse grid wavelet spaces VL, (VL) = NL, of biorthogonal spline wavelets of degree p essentially at the rate p: \[ \|u - P_Lu\|_{H^1([0,1]^d)} \leq CN_L^{-p}\,(\log_2 N_L)^s \|u\|, \qquad s = s(p,d), \] where || · || is a weighted Sobolev norm and PLu \in VL.  相似文献

We give general mathematical results concerning oscillating singularities and we study examples of functions composed only of oscillating singularities. These functions are defined by explicit coefficients on an orthonormal wavelet basis. We compute their Hölder regularity and oscillation at every point and we deduce their spectrum of oscillating singularities.  相似文献
