We present results on the relationship between the growth of the maximum modulus and the decay of Taylor coefficients of entire
functions of several variables. The results are obtained by two different methods, the first of which had been proposed earlier
by Oskolkov for the one-dimensional case, and the second is based on the use of the Legendre-Jung-Fenchel conjugates of the
weight functions. Attention is mainly paid to the characterization of the growth of entire functions with respect to the conjunction
of variables; however, some results are obtained for the case in which there is different growth with respect to different
variables.

The Jacobi-Trudi identity expresses a skew Schur function as a determinant of complete symmetric functions. Bressoud and Wei extend this idea, introducing an integer parameter t?−1 and showing that signed sums of skew Schur functions of a certain shape are expressible once again as a determinant of complete symmetric functions. Koike provides a Jacobi-Trudi-style definition of universal rational characters of the general linear group and gives their expansion as a signed sum of products of Schur functions in two distinct sets of variables. Here we extend Bressoud and Wei's formula by including an additional parameter and extending the result to the case of all integer t. Then we introduce this parameter idea to the Koike formula, extending it in the same way. We prove our results algebraically using Laplace determinantal expansions. 相似文献

We prove that a conjecture of Fomin, Fulton, Li, and Poon, associated to ordered pairs of partitions, holds for many infinite families of such pairs. We also show that the bounded height case can be reduced to checking that the conjecture holds for a finite number of pairs, for any given height. Moreover, we propose a natural generalization of the conjecture to the case of skew shapes. 相似文献

We prove (Theorem 1.1) that if e0>>er>0 are coprime integers, then the Newton functions , i=0,…,r, generate over the field of symmetric rational functions in X1,…,Xr. This generalizes a previous result of us for r=2. This extension requires new methods, including: (i) a study of irreducibility and Galois-theoretic properties of Schur polynomials (Theorem 3.1), and (ii) the study of the dimension of the varieties obtained by intersecting Fermat hypersurfaces (Theorem 4.1). We shall also observe how these results have implications to the study of zeros of linear recurrences over function fields; in particular, we give (Theorem 4.2) a complete classification of the zeros of recurrences of order four with constant coefficients over a function field of dimension 1. 相似文献

We introduce a new basis for quasisymmetric functions, which arise from a specialization of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials to standard bases, also known as Demazure atoms. Our new basis is called the basis of quasisymmetric Schur functions, since the basis elements refine Schur functions in a natural way. We derive expansions for quasisymmetric Schur functions in terms of monomial and fundamental quasisymmetric functions, which give rise to quasisymmetric refinements of Kostka numbers and standard (reverse) tableaux. From here we derive a Pieri rule for quasisymmetric Schur functions that naturally refines the Pieri rule for Schur functions. After surveying combinatorial formulas for Macdonald polynomials, including an expansion of Macdonald polynomials into fundamental quasisymmetric functions, we show how some of our results can be extended to include the t parameter from Hall-Littlewood theory. 相似文献

In this paper,we consider using Schur complements to design pre-conditioners for twofold and block tridiagonal saddle point problems.One type of the preconditioners are based on the nested(or recursive)Schur com-plement,the other is based on an additive type Schur complement after per-muting the original saddle point systems.We analyze different preconditioners incorporating the exact Schur complements.We show that some of them will lead to positively stable preconditioned systems if proper signs are selected in front of the Schur complements.These positive-stable preconditioners outper-form other preconditioners if the Schur complements are further approximated inexactly.Numerical experiments for a 3-field formulation of the Biot model are provided to verify our predictions. 相似文献

This paper presents the problem of local approximation of scalar functions with several variables, including points of non-differentiability. The procedure considers that the mapping displays rates of change of power type with respect to linear changes in the coordinate domain, and the exponents are not necessarily integer. The approach provides a formula describing the local variability of scalar fields which contains and generalizes Taylor’s formula of first order. The functions giving the contact are Müntz polynomials. The knowledge of their coefficients and exponents enables the finding of local extremes including cases of non-smoothness. Sufficient conditions for the existence of global maxima and minima of concave-convex functions are obtained as well. 相似文献
