In this paper, a class of fourth‐order Sturm‐Liouville problems with transmission conditions is considered. The eigenvalues depend not only continuously but also smoothly on the problem. An expression for the derivative of the eigenvalues with respect to a given parameter: an endpoint, a boundary condition, a transmission condition, a coefficient, or the weight function, is found. In this study, we investigate a Sturm–Liouville type problem with eigenparameter‐dependent boundary conditions and eigenparameter‐dependent transmission conditions. By establishing a new self‐adjoint operator A associated with the problem, we construct fundamental solutions and obtain asymptotic formulae for its eigenvalues and fundamental solutions. We use the method proposed by H. Kumano‐go in the classical case to construct a parametrix of the equation + q (x, D )u = 0 where q (x, D ) is a pseudo‐differential operator with symbol in the class introduced by W. Hoh. In case where –q (x, D ) extends to a generator of a Feller semigroup our construction yields an approximation for the transition densities of the corresponding Markov process. This paper is devoted to the study of a nonlinear wave equation with initial conditions and nonlocal boundary conditions of 2N‐point type, which connect the values of an unknown function u(x,t) at x = 1, x = 0, x = ηi(t) , and x = θi(t), where 0 < η 1 ( t ) < η 2 ( t ) < < η N ? 1 ( t ) < 1 , 0 < θ 1 ( t ) < θ 2 ( t ) < < θ N ? 1 ( t ) < 1 , for all t ≥ 0. First, we prove local existence of a unique weak solution by using density arguments and applying the Banach's contraction principle. Next, under the suitable conditions, we show that the problem considered has a unique global solution u(t) with energy decaying exponentially as t → + .
