We have investigated numerically the propagation of high-intensity femtosecond optical pulses with pulsewidth of 100 fs (half width at 1/e maximum) on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) optical waveguide when the central wavelength of the pulse locates in the normal dispersion region. Results show that the combined effects of group-velocity dispersion (GVD), third-order dispersion (TOD), self-phase modulation (SPM), and free-carrier dispersion (FCD) can lead to the phenomenon of optical wave breaking that manifests as an asymmetric profile and oscillation near the trailing edge of the pulse. Moreover, the optical wave breaking will be experienced from generation to disappearance during propagation.  相似文献

The optical wave breaking (OWB) characteristics in terms of the pulse shape, spectrum, and frequency chirp, in the normal dispersion regime of an optical fiber with both the third-order dispersion (TOD) and quintic nonlinearity (QN) are numerically calculated. The results show that the TOD causes the asymmetry of the temporal- and spectral-domain, and the chirp characteristics. The OWB generally appears near the pulse center and at the trailing edge of the pulse, instead of at the two edges of the pulse symmetrically in the case of no TOD. With the increase of distance, the relation of OWB to the TOD near the pulse center increases quickly, leading to the generation of ultra-short pulse trains, while the OWB resulting from the case of no TOD at the trailing edge of the pulse disappears gradually. In addition, the positive (negative) QN enhances (weakens) the chirp amount and the fine structures, thereby inducing the OWB phenomena to appear earlier (later). Thus, the TOD and the positive (negative) QN are beneficial (detrimental) to the OWB and the generation of ultra-short pulse trains.  相似文献

This paper presents for the first time a full-vectorial analysis of optical vortex propagation in anisotropic cubic-quintic (CQ) non-linear medium. The purpose is to investigate the energy transfer mechanism and stability between orthogonal field components and how they are affected by the presence of material anisotropy in CQ materials. The numerical simulations were carried out via a three-dimensional finite difference based beam propagation method (3D-FD-BPM) which is capable of handling variations in any of the permittivity tensor components. Therefore, in this work we allowed all tensor components to vary independently and simulate vortex propagation for distances several times longer than the diffraction length. We expect that this work can provide new and important information regarding the behavior of these objects that may become valuable for the design of new photonic devices.  相似文献

利用三五阶非线性效应下的扩展非线性薛定谔方程,在忽略光纤色散的情况下,计算模拟了以二阶情形为例的啁啾超高斯光脉冲的啁啾和频谱。结果表明,脉冲无预啁啾时,正五阶非线性增大啁啾量,负五阶非线性在减小啁啾量的同时还改变啁啾曲线的形状。当预啁啾与五阶非线性系数同(异)号时,总啁啾增加(减小)。随着超高斯脉冲阶次的增大,总啁啾量增大,脉冲中心附近无啁啾的范围变宽,整个有啁啾的范围变小,总啁啾中预啁啾所占比重增大。脉冲无预啁啾时,正负五阶非线性分别可以增大和减小频谱展宽。预啁啾若增强非线性所致啁啾,则可能使频谱峰值结构加强,谱峰数目增多。当超高斯光脉冲的阶次或最大非线性相移增大时,在某些宽大的频谱峰上还可能出现许多精细谱峰。  相似文献

An interesting effect of optical Kerr nonlinearity is reported from theoretical investigation on the fundamental and first higher mode cutoff frequencies in single-mode fibers doped with highly nonlinear materials like CdSxSe1−x with W-type dispersion-flattened profiles. It is observed that whereas the single-mode regime decreases absolutely for dispersion-shifted profiles due to reduction of the first higher order mode cutoff frequency as is evident from earlier studies, it increases for W-type profiles for such nonlinearity taking its effect on the nonzero fundamental mode cutoff frequency into consideration. Thus, one can go further down below the fundamental mode cutoff frequency while using W-fibers in single mode nonlinear fiber devices involving evanescent field coupling in the low V region.  相似文献

Utilizing the linear-stability analysis, this paper analytically investigates and calculates the condition and gain spectra of cross-phase modulation instability in optical fibres in the case of exponential saturable nonlinearity and high-order dispersion. The results show that, the modulation instability characteristics here are similar to those of conventional saturable nonlinearity and Kerr nonlinearity. That is to say, when the fourth-order dispersion has the same sign as that of the second-order one, a new gain spectral region called the second one which is far away from the zero point may appear. The existence of the exponential saturable nonlinearity will make the spectral width as well as the peak gain of every spectral region increase with the input powers before decrease. Namely, for every spectral regime, this may lead to a unique value of peak gain and spectral width for two different input powers. In comparison with the case of conventional saturable nonlinearity, however, when the other parameters are the same, the variations of the spectral width and the peak gain with the input powers will be faster in case of exponential saturable nonlinearity.  相似文献

We investigate the existence and stability of Bragg grating solitons in a cubic-quintic medium with dispersive reflectivity. It is found that the model supports two disjoint families of solitons. One family can be viewed as the generalization of the Bragg grating solitons in Kerr nonlinearity with dispersive reflectivity. On the other hand, the quintic nonlinearity is dominant in the other family. Stability regions are identified by means of systematic numerical stability analysis. In the case of the first family, the size of the stability region increases up to moderate values of dispersive reflectivity. However for the second family (i.e. region where quintic nonlinearity dominates), the size of the stability region increases even for strong dispersive reflectivity. For all values of m, there exists a subset of the unstable solitons belonging to the first family for which the instability development leads to deformation and subsequent splitting of the soliton into two moving solitons with different amplitudes and velocities.  相似文献

We explain the polarization dependence of four wave mixing (FWM) quantum beats for semiconductors as essentially due to the spin phase correlations of photo-excited electrons, rather than to Coulomb interaction between the electrons. A theoretical analysis is given within the framework of optical Bloch equations for the light–semiconductor interactions and the Luttinger–Kohn model for the band structure. Residual Coulomb interactions between charge carriers are ignored. The results suggest that the polarization dependence of FWM quantum beats is a purely coherent effect of dual photon excitations, rather than, e.g., exciton–exciton Coulomb interaction. We show that the coherence transfer between the excited states is responsible for the FWM in a configuration with orthogonally polarized pump and probe.  相似文献

The intra-channel collision of optical solitons, with Kerr law nonlinearity, is studied by the aid of quasi-particle theory. The perturbation terms considered in this paper are all of Hamiltonian type. It is shown that the soliton–soliton interaction can be suppressed in the presence of these perturbations, namely, the self-steepening, the third-order dispersion, the fourth-order dispersion and the frequency separation between the soliton carrier and the gain-center frequency. The prediction of quasi-particle theory are fully confirmed by direct numerical simulations.  相似文献

Refractive-index nonlinearities have negligible effect on the performance of short-haul fiber-optic communication links utilizing electronic repeaters. However, in long links, nonlinearities can cause severe signal degradations. To mitigate nonlinear effects, a new generation of fibers, referred to as large effective-area fibers, have been introduced in recent years. This paper reviews the latest research and development work on these fibers conducted by several research groups around the world. Attention is focused on a class of large effective-area fibers that are based on a depressed-core multiple-cladding design. Another important issue in long-haul and high capacity fiber optic systems is the polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) which has been recognized as a serious limiting factor. In this paper, an improved fiber design is proposed which, in addition to providing large effective-area and low bending loss, eliminates PMD due to elliptical deformation in the single-mode wavelength region. Furthermore, this design is allowed to provide a small chromatic dispersion about few ps/nmkm, in order to overcome four-wave mixing effects.  相似文献

In this paper, we explore transverse electric surface waves propagating along the crystal with jump change of Kerr nonlinearity in dependence on field amplitude. The dielectric permittivity in the proposed model of nonlinearity is characterized by abruptly changing unperturbed dielectric constant and Kerr nonlinearity coefficient from one value to another when field amplitude exceeds the threshold value of the switching field. This allows to find exact solutions of model equations in different cases of nonlinearity signs, and to obtain the dependence of wave characteristics, including total power flux, on effective refractive index in explicit form. Such solutions describe two new types of nonlinear surface waves with specific structure depending on electric field amplitude. We derive the conditions of surface domain formation. It is found that the largest percentage of radiation is concentrated within the domain.  相似文献

We investigate numerically the steady-state transmission of a Gaussian beam through Fabry-Perot cavity containing liquid medium with the negative temperature nonlinearity. 采用线性稳定性分析法,解析和计算了指数饱和非线性和高阶色散光纤中的调制不稳定条件和增益谱。结果表明:当二阶和四阶色散同为负时,随着参数的不同,增益谱可能只有一个谱区,也可能出现两个分离的谱区;当二阶和四阶色散分别为正和负时,无调制不稳定性;在其它色散区,则只有一个谱区。指数饱和非线性可能使各谱区的谱宽、峰值增益随入纤功率的增大呈现出先增大后减小的特点,即出现两个不同的输入功率对应同一个不稳定增益峰值和谱宽的情形。在其它参数相同时,指数饱和非线性下增益谱的谱宽和峰值增益随入纤功率的变化速度将比传统饱和非线性更快。  相似文献

We report on theoretical and experimental investigations of two crystal traveling-wave optical parametric generator (OPG). It is shown that the efficiency and angular structure of traveling-wave tunable OPG output depends on the distance between the two crystals. Air dispersion driven efficiency modulation at different OPG output wavelengths is observed experimentally and confirmed by theoretical calculations.  相似文献

The xPb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–(1−x)PbTiO3 (PMNT) (with x=0.7) thin film is prepared on quartz substrates prepared using a sol–gel process. The PMNT thin film has a well-crystallized pyrochlore phase structure. The sign and magnitude of both real and imaginary parts of third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) of the thin film have been determined by the Z-scan technique performed at 800 nm with a femtosecond laser. The nonlinear refraction index coefficient γ, the nonlinear absorption coefficient β of the thin film are 1.37×10−12 cm2/W and −6.73×10−8 m/W, respectively. The real and imaginary part of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of the film are 1.06×10−17 and −1.65×10−19 m2/V2, respectively. The results suggested that the nonlinearity is dominated by the refractive for the film.  相似文献

The propagation and stability of spatiotemporal optical solitons (or optical bullets) in a planar waveguide with periodically modulated cubic-quintic nonlinearity is studied numerically as a function of the amplitudes of modulation (A m ), the frequency of modulation (ω m ) and the propagation distance z. The optical spatiotemporal solitons are the result of the balance between the nonlinear parameters, of dispersion (dispersion length, L D ) and diffraction (diffraction length, L d ) with temporal and spatial auto-focusing behavior respectively. With the objective of ensure the stability and preventing the collapse or the spreading of pulses, in this study we explore the cubic-quintic nonlinearity with the optical fields coupled by XPM and take into account several values for the non linear parameter α and for amplitudes (A m ) and frequency (ω m ) of modulation as a function of the propagation distance z and we cause the collisions of two pulses (envelope of the optical field) to ensure that the optical pulse are solitons. After numerical analysis of parameter settings selected four conditions and for all we get stable solitons and this paper shown that, for a fixed amplitude and frequency of modulation we have stable spatiotemporal solitons.  相似文献

The propagation of spatial solitons is systematically investigated in nonlocal nonlinear media with an imprinted transverse periodic modulation of the refractive index. Based on the variational principle and the infinitesimal approximation of Maclaurin series expansion, we obtain an analytical solution of such nonlocal spatial solitons and an interesting result that the critical power for such solitons propagation is smaller than that in uniform nonlocal self-focusing media. It is found that there exist thresholds in modulation period and lattice depth for such solitons. A stable spatial soliton propagation is maintained with proper adjustment of the modulation period and the lattice depth.  相似文献
