A Stokes beam is a light beam which is expressible as a superposition of a completely polarized and a completely unpolarized beam. In this note we study coherence properties of a wide class of beams of this kind. Coherence between two vectorial harmonic light vibrations is analyzed in terms of the statistics of their phase difference. This provides a natural and simple extension of second-order coherence to cover more complicate situations. In particular this assigns large coherence to quantum light states providing the most accurate interferometric measurements allowed by the quantum theory, even if they are incoherent according to the standard second-order approach. 相似文献

New expressions are derived that predict the change of spectral density, the spectral degree of coherence and spectral degree of polarization in Young’s interference pattern when the pinholes are illuminated by an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-mode beam. The spectral degree of polarization in the observation plane is found, in general, to take on values different from its values at each pinhole, and it changes with position at the same spatial frequency, as does the spectral density. When the light at the pinholes is completely coherent, there are singular points in the pattern, at which the spectral degree of polarization reaches minimum value. 相似文献

We report the development of theory and experiment for the characterization of polarization maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM PCF) from far field intensity measurements. In this specially designed photonic crystal fiber, the air hole diameters along orthogonal axes adjacent to the core region are different, and hence create an effective index difference between the two orthogonal polarization modes. From the experimental measurements of the far field radiation pattern, we obtain transmission characteristics of PM PCF in terms of mode field diameters (MFD), V-values along major and minor axes, mode field area, birefringence, core radius, effective refractive index of cladding and numerical apertures along major and minor axes of PM PCFs. It is shown that the experimentally obtained geometrical and wave guiding parameters of the PM PCF match with the manufacturer/simulation/scanning electron microscope (SEM) data within the experimental limits. 相似文献

The propagation of nonparaxial, partially coherent fields may be modeled in many ways. The standard techniques of Huygens-type propagation integrals or plane-wave decompositions require quadruple oscillatory integrals that carry a significant computational cost. Two alternative, computationally efficient methods for such modeling are presented here. One uses a discrete nonparaxial basis expansion of the field, while the other uses Wigner functions for nonparaxial fields. Two possible nonparaxial generalizations of Gaussian Schell-model beams are presented and used to demonstrate the utility of the methods by computing the spatial distribution of several recently proposed definitions of the degree of polarization of a nonparaxial field. 相似文献

With the development of society, the need of fiber optical communication expansion and upgrades is increasing. Multi-wavelength optical source has been popularly researched as one of the key component of DWDM. A integrative technique with polarization modulation for high-quality multi-wavelength optical source has been proposed theoretically and experimentally. A comprehensive and systematic overview of how to get a high-quality multi-wavelength optical source, based on in-depth and detailed experiment research. It is found that the optical intensity of the sidebands are not only related to the microwave source and DC bias voltage loaded at EOIM, but also affected by the polarization state of the input light. Five perfect sidebands with equal peak value can be realized by regulating the polarization state of the input light, in addition to regulating the microwave source and DC bias voltage loaded at EOIM as well as. The peak–peak difference of intensity of sidebands can be down to 0.00 dBm in the best situation. Polarization state of the input light plays a good role in generating wonderful sidebands with equal space, balanced peak value, high signal-to-noise ratio. The number of sidebands can be selected according to specific application. The findings may have important implications for high-quality multi-wavelength optical source. 相似文献

Based on the vector angular spectrum representation of optical beam and the method of stationary phase, the analytical TE and TM terms of vector Gaussian beam have been presented in the far field. By using the local polarization matrix, the polarization properties of the TE and TM terms in the far field are investigated, and it is found that the degree of their polarization is only determined by the spatial location. When the source is completely polarized, the TE and TM terms are both completely polarized in the far field. When the source is completely unpolarized, the TE and TM terms in the far field are partially polarized. The whole beam is also partially polarized except on the propagating axis. We present a design and fabrication of a three-dimensional polymer optical waveguide polarization splitter by taking into consideration of the induced birefringence effect of the polymer. We show that it is not possible to couple TM light from one waveguide to the other but evanescent coupling for TE light is possible. Hence the polarization splitter can be designed by considering TE mode coupling alone. This has an advantage of short interaction length of the device. Based on this consideration, we fabricated a polarization splitter with a TE extinction ratio of 15 dB and TM extinction ratio of 21 dB. 相似文献

Analytic expressions and computed examples are given to elucidate the coherence and polarization properties of Stokes beams, i.e. beams formed by superposition of a completely unpolarized and a completely polarized electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model beam. We found that superposition of such two beams cannot form a Stokes beam with a constant state of polarization on propagation. An additional constraint on the source plane parameters of the two Gaussian Schell-model beams is proposed. The resultant Stokes beam with a constant state of polarization on propagation is found to be a Gaussian Schell-model beam with the same variances as the two constituent Gaussian Schell-model beams. However, the modulus of the Gaussian intensity distributions across the source planes of these beams may be different. 相似文献

根据离子束生物工程的需要,设计和研制了一台用于静电加速器的小型高频离子源。针对使用环境从理论上确定了离子源的结构和尺寸。通过实验调试取得了引出束流与引出电压、聚焦电压以及放电气压之间的变化特性曲线,测定了引出束流的束径包络,对束流的不稳定性进行了分析,在设计中采取了有效的措施抑制束流不稳定性。结果表明,离子源的最佳工作条件为引出电压1 600V~1 800V,放电气压在(4~8)×10-4Pa范围,此时离子源可引出最大束流30μA。束流大小及其稳定性均达到预期要求。 相似文献

We describe the quantum Hall effect (QHE) and far infra-red (FIR) absorption properties of bilayer graphene in
a strong magnetic field and contrast them with the weak field regime. This includes a derivation of the effective low
energy Hamiltonian for this system and the consequences of this Hamiltonian for the sequencing of the Landau levels in
the material: The form of this effective Hamiltonian gives rise to the presence of a level with doubled degeneracy at
zero energy.
The effect of a potential difference between the layer of a bilayer is also investigated. It is found that there is a
density-dependent gap near the K points in the band structure. The consequences of this gap on the QHE are then
described.
Also, the magneto-absorption spectrum is investigated and an experiment proposed to distinguish between model ground
states of the bilayer quantum Hall effect system based on the different absorption characteristics of right-handed and
left-handed polarisation of FIR light.
Finally, the effects of trigonal warping are taken into account in the absorption picture. 相似文献

The polarization Py for the 3H(p, n)3He reaction was measured for energies between 2 and 4 MeV. Special care was given to minimizing the effects of background and to interpreting the experimental spectra. The new values for Py are significantly higher than previous values, and comparison to the available data for the analyzing power Ay for the same reaction now shows that in this energy range Py and Ay are equal within experimental uncertainties. This equality negates earlier conclusions that sizeable differences existed between these observables. In particular, our new results demonstrate that in this reaction the effects of charge symmetry breaking on differences between these observables must be small. 相似文献

We theoretically investigate the synchronization performance of polarization mode of two unidirectionally coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and propose an encryption scheme, where the phase of the polarization states of the master laser are modulated. It is demonstrated that high synchronization can be achieved between corresponding polarization components of the master laser and the slave laser. Moreover, two distinct synchronization regimes exist, complete synchronization and injection locking. The transmitted digital information is successfully recovered at each polarization branch of the slaver laser. The results open an opportunity for multichannel chaotic communication by utilizing different polarization components in single-mode or multi-transverse-mode VCSELs. 相似文献

The optical properties of a stack of metamaterial-based cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) layers and isotropic medium layers are investigated. The problem is solved by a modification of Ambartsumian’s layer addition method. CLCs with two types of chiral nihility are defined. The peculiarities of the reflection spectra of this system are investigated and it is shown that the reflection spectra of the stacks of CLC layers of these two types differ from each other. Besides, in contrast to the single CLC layer case, these systems have multiple photonic band gaps. There are two types of such gaps: those selective with respect to polarization of the incident light and nonselective ones. It is shown that the system eigenpolarizations mainly coincide with the quasi-orthogonal, quasi-circular polarizations for normally incident light, except the regions of diffraction reflection selective with respect to the polarization of incident light. The influence of the CLC sublayer thick-nesses, the incidence angle, the local dielectric (magnetic) anisotropy of the CLC layers, and the refractive indices and thicknesses of the isotropic media layers on the reflection spectra and other optical characteristics of the system is investigated. 相似文献
