For optical waveguides with high index-contrast and sharp corners, existing full-vectorial mode solvers including those based on boundary integral equations typically have only second or third order of accuracy. In this paper, a new full-vectorial waveguide mode solver is developed based on a new formulation of boundary integral equations and the so-called Neumann-to-Dirichlet operators for sub-domains of constant refractive index. The method uses the normal derivatives of the two transverse magnetic field components as the basic unknown functions, and it offers higher order of accuracy where the order depends on a parameter used in a graded mesh for handling the corners. The method relies on a standard Nyström method for discretizing integral operators and it does not require analytic properties of the electromagnetic field (which are singular) at the corners.  相似文献

This work overcomes the difficulty of the previous matched interface and boundary (MIB) method in dealing with interfaces with non-constant curvatures for optical waveguide analysis. This difficulty is essentially bypassed by avoiding the use of local cylindrical coordinates in the improved MIB method. Instead, novel jump conditions are derived along global Cartesian directions for the transverse magnetic field components. Effective interface treatments are proposed to rigorously impose jump conditions across arbitrarily curved interfaces based on a simple Cartesian grid. Even though each field component satisfies the scalar Helmholtz equation, the enforcement of jump conditions couples two transverse magnetic field components, so that the resulting MIB method is a full-vectorial approach for the modal analysis of optical waveguides. The numerical performance of the proposed MIB method is investigated by considering interface problems with both constant and general curvatures. The MIB method is shown to be able to deliver a fourth order of accuracy in all cases, even when a high frequency solution is involved.  相似文献

A modified full-vectorial finite-difference beam propagation method based on H-fields in solving the guided-modes for optical waveguides with step-index profiles is described. The propagation is split into two substeps. In the first substep, the field propagates in the absence of the cross-coupling terms, and then they are evaluated and double used in the second substep. An improved six-point finite-difference scheme is constructed to approximate the cross-coupling terms along the transverse directions. By using the imaginary-distance procedure, the field patterns and the normalized propagation constants of the fundamental modes for a buried rectangular waveguide and rib waveguide are presented, and the hybrid nature of the full-vectorial guided-modes is demonstrated. Solutions are in good agreement with the benchmark results from film mode matching method, which tests the validity and utility of the present method.  相似文献

A modified alternating direction implicit algorithm is proposed to solve the full-vectorial finite-difference beam propagation method formulation based on $H$ fields. The cross-coupling terms are neglected in the first sub-step, but evaluated and doubly used in the second sub-step. The order of two sub-steps is reversed for each transverse magnetic field component so that the cross-coupling terms are always expressed in implicit form, thus the calculation is very efficient and stable. Moreover, an improved six-point finite-difference scheme with high accuracy independent of specific structures of waveguide is also constructed to approximate the cross-coupling terms along the transverse directions. The imaginary-distance procedure is used to assess the validity and utility of the present method. The field patterns and the normalized propagation constants of the fundamental mode for a buried rectangular waveguide and a rib waveguide are presented. Solutions are in excellent agreement with the benchmark results from the modal transverse resonance method.  相似文献

A full-vectorial (FV) analysis of optical dielectric waveguide bends by using finite difference (FD) method in terms of magnetic field components is developed in a local cylindrical coordinate system. The perfectly matched layer absorbing boundary conditions via the complex coordinate stretching technique are incorporated into the FV wave equations for effectively demonstrating the leaky nature of waveguide bends, and a six-point FD scheme is constructed to approximate the cross-coupling terms for improving the convergent behavior. The leaky modes of a typical rib waveguide bend are calculated and the complex propagation constants and the field patterns for TE- and TM-like modes are obtained. Solutions are good agreement with those from the film mode matching method, which shows the validity and utility of the established method.  相似文献

The finite difference method is exploited for a full-vectorial analysis of mushroom-type waveguides for traveling wave electroabsorption modulators (TWEAM) based on asymmetric intra-step-barrier coupled double strained quantum wells (AICD-SQW). In this analysis, the discontinuities of the normal components of the electric field across abrupt dielectric interfaces which are known as the limitations of scalar and semivectorial approximation methods are considered. The optical field distributions in mushroom-type TWEAM based on AICD-SQW and conventional ridge-type TWEAM of the same active region for 1.55 μm operation are presented. The important parameters in the high-frequency TWEAM design such as optical effective index which defines optical velocity and transverse mode confinement factor are calculated. Then, the transmission line microwave properties (microwave index, microwave loss, and characteristic impedance) of TWEAMs are obtained. The modulation response of mushroom-type TWEAM is calculated using circuit model by considering interaction between microwave and optical fields in waveguide and compared with conventional ridge-type TWEAM. It is found that increasing the width of p-cladding layer with the same i-layer to reduce the resistance in p-i-n mushroom-type waveguide of TWEAM based on AICD-SQW can improve the microwave propagation loss and thus the high-speed electro-optical response.  相似文献

提出一种改进的有限差分法,用以求解全矢量磁场波方程,分析光波导承载的全矢量本征模.离散交叉项时,采用与波导结构无关的六点差分格式,考虑磁场分量的导数在芯包分界处的不连续性,比传统四点差分格式有更高的计算精度.分析阶跃型光纤、矩形和脊形光波导的全矢量本征模问题,给出全矢量基模的磁场分布及其归一化传播常数,揭示全矢量本征模的混合特性,所得结果与解析法、高精度模横向谐振法的结果吻合,验证了方法的收敛性与计算精度.  相似文献

 提出了一种数值分析同轴线-矩形波导结散射特性的模式匹配方法。采用同轴线和矩形波导的本征模函数表示电磁场分量,通过同轴线-矩形波导结截面横向场分量匹配获得波导结的散射参数,引入电场模式匹配矩阵的解析形式提高了计算效率。给出了基于模式匹配法数值仿真的各种同轴线-矩形波导结散射特性及仿真结果分析,并与3维全电磁波分析软件HFSS的仿真结果进行了比较,二者非常吻合。模式匹配法计算效率高,能广泛应用于微波毫米波元器件及系统结构的设计与优化。  相似文献

An improved full-vectorial method exploiting the opposite-parity property of eigenmodes based on orthonormal-functions expansion is proposed to solve the wave equation for holey optical fibers. By use of the parity property of eigenmodes in symmetric structures, the number of orthonormal function integrals involved in the calculation is reduced, and the computation efficiency is greatly enhanced. The coupling between the two transverse field components is considered, and both dominant and minor field components can be calculated for the accurate modeling of fiber modes. This method is useful for efficiently modeling holey fibers, especially those with large air holes, in which the coupling effect that is due to refractive-index discontinuities is strong.  相似文献

A general numerical tool,based on thermal diffusion equation and full-vectorial eigen-mode equation,has been presented for the systematic analysis of graded index channel waveguide fabricated by ion exchange on Er3+ doped glass.Finite difference method with full-vectorial formulation(FV-FDM) is applied to solving the full-vectorial modes of graded index channel waveguide for the first time.The coupled difference equations based on magnetic fields in FV-FDM are derived from the Taylor series expansion and accurate formulation of boundary conditions.Hybrid nature of vectorial guided modes for both pump(980 nm) and signal light(1550 nm) are demonstrated by the simulation.Results show that the fabrication parameters of ion exchange,such as channel opening width and time ratio of second step to first step in ion exchange,have large influence on the properties of waveguide.By optimizing the fabrication parameters,maintenance of monomode for signal light and improvement of the gain dynamics can be achieved in Er3+ doped waveguide amplifier(EDWA) fabricated by ion exchange technique.This theoretical model is significant for the design and fabrication of EDWA with ion exchange technique.Furthermore,a single polarization EDWA,which operates at wavelength from 1528 nm to 1541 nm for HE polarization,is numerically designed.  相似文献

We employ a well-established method to determine the dispersion properties of transverse magnetic and transverse electric waves in re-entrant cavities. We assume that the waveguide structure consists of a large number of identical cavities in order that the Floquet theorem could be applied to describe the electromagnetic field in an empty cylinder. Furthermore, we describe the electromagnetic field in each cavity region by an eigenfunction expansion for standing waves. Inferring boundary conditions leads to a system of two infinite sets of equations, which is solved numerically by truncation. A numerical code has been developed to calculate the dispersion relation and the electromagnetic field components. Numerical results are presented for several waveguide geometries, including the case of the real gyrotron beam-tunnel geometry. A comparison with already established codes is made.  相似文献

The dynamics and energy gain of an electron in the field of a transverse electric wave propagating inside an elliptical waveguide is analytically investigated by considering the existence of a helical magnet in which the field is perpendicular to the axis of the waveguide and rotating as a function of position along the magnet. Besides, by solving the relativistic momentum and energy equations, the deflection angle and the acceleration gradient of the electron in the waveguide are obtained. It is shown that the electron is deflected due to the field components of the transverse electric mode of this microwave, and at the same time, it is accelerated by these fields. Furthermore, the expressions of the acceleration gradient and deflection angle for an electron in the transverse electric mode inside the plasma elliptical waveguide without a static helical magnet are presented, which was injected initially along the propagation direction of the microwave. 采用数值模拟和理论分析方法,研究了圆波导内置n-Si探测结构对X波段几种常用电磁波模式的电场响应。首先基于强电场下的热载流子效应,设计了一种利用n-Si进行高功率脉冲实时测量的圆波导探测结构。接着采用三维并行电磁场时域有限差分方法,模拟研究并分析了TE11(两种极化方向)、TM01和TE01模式作用下圆波导探测结构内的横向电场分布特点。结果表明:不同模式下探测芯片内的横向电场均以径向电场为主,径向和角向电场幅度比约为10,而芯片在圆波导内引入的横向电场驻波比均不大于1.3。最后推导了圆波导探测结构在不同模式电场作用下的灵敏度表达式,理论分析指出了探测结构的最大承受功率与圆波导模式有关,最高可达422MW,响应时间则均为ps量级,初步证实了该探测结构可用于X波段百MW级脉冲波源在线探测的可行性。  相似文献

Frequently the cross-section of a longitudinally homogeneous dielectric waveguide may be decomposed into rectangles with constant permittivity. For points inside these rectangles the wave equation for modal fields is solved analytically by expanding into functions with harmonic or exponential dependence on the transverse coordinates. Minimization of a least-squares expression for the remaining misfit on the boundary lines allows us to determine propagation constants and fields for guided modes. Semivectorial calculations for two sets of rib waveguides and the centre sections of a directional coupler and an MMI device show very good agreement with results found in the literature. A theoretical investigation of field components for transverse electric mode in the parallel-plate waveguides has been studied. In this analysis two different types of waveguide structures have been discussed, i.e., (a) normal good/perfect conducting parallel-plate waveguide filled with nonlinear left-handed material and (b) high-temperature-superconducting parallel-plate waveguide filled with nonlinear left-handed material. The characteristics of the directional couplers based on the horizontal multiple-slotted waveguides with slanted sidewalls are analyzed in detail by using a mode solver based on the full-vectorial finite element method with perfectly matched layers absorbing boundary conditions. The coupling length of the directional coupler as functions of the structural parameters including waveguide spacing, sidewalls angle, the thickness and refractive index of the slot regions, both in quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes, is obtained. The effective indexes and the field distributions of the even and odd modes also are presented. The numerical results show that polarization-independent directional couplers can be realized by properly choosing structural and material parameters.  相似文献

扇形波导可作为高功率微波圆柱共形波导缝隙阵天线的基本单元。分析了扇形波导中主模场分量,根据实际情况对主模场进行了合理近似。采用互易定理推导由波导主模横向场分量和缝隙场分量表示的波导场分量的前向或后向散射系数。根据波导传输线理论,将波导宽边纵缝等效为并联导纳,再根据波导边界条件得到扇形波导宽边谐振纵缝的归一化电导与波导散射系数之间的关系式。根据缝隙天线与振子天线的互补关系得到扇形波导谐振缝隙的辐射阻抗,结合波导功率平衡关系得到由波导横向场散射系数表示的缝隙辐射功率表达式,得到归一化电导的与谐振宽边纵缝的偏移位置、缝隙宽度、波导波长以及扇形波导尺寸参数之间的解析表达式。给出了算例,在波导中间区域,通过商用软件计算得到的电导与理论公式结果基本吻合。  相似文献

A method for designing microstructured optical fibers that is based on exact integral equations for the transverse components of the magnetic field of the mode is proposed. A solution to the vector waveguide problem for fibers with a finite number of circular capillaries in the round cavity of the cladding can be refined successively. Interference between inhomogeneous waves in a planar waveguide placed in a perfectly conducting environment is studied. It is shown that the interference flux of copropagating waveguide TM modes behaves like counterpropagating homogeneous volume waves. The longitudinal and transverse components of the interference fluxes of co-and counterpropagating waves in the general case result from interference between both the active and reactive components of the field. The interference flux of waveguide modes may also be observed when the partial fluxes of the modes equal zero.  相似文献
