The generation of minimum shift keying (MSK) requires a linear variation of the phase, hence a constant frequency of the optical carrier. However, the generation of the optical phase may be preferred by driving an optical modulator using sinusoidal signal for practical implementation. Thus a nonlinear variation of the carrier phase, hence some distortion effects are produced. In this paper, we investigate the use of linear and nonlinear phase shaping filtering and their impacts on MSK modulated optical signals transmission over optically amplified long haul communications system. The evolution of the phasor of the in-phase and quadrature components is illustrated for lightwave-modulated signal transmission. The distinct features of three different MSK modulation formats: linear MSK, weakly nonlinear MSK and strongly nonlinear MSK and their transmission are simulated. Transmission performance obtained indicates the resilience of the MSK signals in transmission over multi-optically amplified multi-spans.  相似文献

In this paper, 10 and 40 Gb/s optical systems have been investigated for nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) and RZ-differential phase-shift-keying (RZ-DPSK) data formats. For the range of the optical signal power from −5 to 15 dBm, a maximum self-phase modulation (SPM)-limited transmission distance LSPM is determined with eye-opening penalty (EOP) >1 dB .The observations are based on the modeling and numerical simulation of optimum dispersion-managed transmission link. Transmission over distances of the order of several hundreds of kilometers has been shown with and without amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise of the in-line erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs).  相似文献

HAP-to-satellite, one of the important applications of FSO/OWC technology, which will be deployed in space in the near future. In this paper, we have presented analysis of 2.50 Gbit/s OWC system using PPM modulation schemes and a distance of 2500 km was achieved at BER 10−6 in HAP to satellite links.  相似文献

Until recently, the wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) transmission system has reached record capacities and distances due to innovations such as FEC (Forward Error Correction), distributed Raman amplification, new transmission fiber and advanced optical format. Optical-communication systems exclusively employed conventional On-Off Keying signals in either Non-Return-To-Zero (NRZ) or Return-To-Zero (RZ) format. Recently a number of advanced modulation formats have attracted attention. Some of these formats carry information through On-Off-Keying but also modulate the optical phase in order to enhance the robustness of signal to chromatic dispersion, optical filtering and non-linearities. Through extensive sets of simulation results, we showed that it is possible to replace a channel with higher bit-rate on existing DPSK or OOK at 10Gbit/s transmission link. Duobinary formats are ideal candidates to do it and are known for their low spectral range and high tolerance to residual chromatic dispersion. These particularities make them very attractive for both high bit rates and high distance-transmissions. Today, Phase Shaped Binary Transmission (PSBT) is considered as being the promising format for the deployment of 40Gbit/s technology on existing links at 10Gbit/s WDM long haul transmissions.  相似文献

介绍了四种调制格式即非归零(NRZ),归零(RZ),载波抑制的RZ(CSRZ)和单边带RZ(SSB-RZ),用计算机仿真方法产生了这四种调制格式的40 Gb/s光信号,比较了其波形和光谱.也对这四种调制格式在非零色散位移光纤(NZDSF)上单信道传输进行了仿真,结果表明:在色散完全补偿情况下,RZ,CSRZ和SSB-RZ抗非线性能力都比NRZ强,其中CSRZ最强, CSRZ能够容忍的入纤光功率比NRZ大10.2 dBm;RZ,CSRZ和SSB-RZ 三种格式抗EDFA噪声能力差不多,但都比NRZ强.  相似文献

Optical CDMA over FSO communication system is very effective to provide high data rate transmission with very low bit error rate and low amount of multiple access interference. In this paper, we have presented optical CDMA over FSO communication system to the range of 8000 m. The simulative results reveal that the transmission distance is limited mainly by the multi-access interference (MAI) which arises when there are number of users in the system because of the fact that one user data becomes noisy for all other users in the channel.  相似文献

We modeled and analyzed a method to improve receiver sensitivity of the Absolute Polar Duty Cycle Division Multiplexing (AP-DCDM) transmission system by using Dual-Drive Mach-Zehnder-Modulator (DD-MZM). It is found that by optimizing the bias voltage in DD-MZM, the sensitivity of the AP-DCDM can be improved. The optimizations lead towards the larger eye opening. As opposed to the previous work, in terms of receiver sensitivity and dispersion tolerance, similar performance for all channels was achieved. In comparison to the previously reported AP-DCDM system, this work resulted in almost 3.6 dB improvement of the receiver sensitivity, came together with acceptable chromatic dispersion tolerance.  相似文献

The performance of various modulation schemes for 100 Gbit/s single-channel serial transmission is investigated by means of numerical simulations. Different ASK and PSK modulation formats are compared in terms of total system reach for a 10−9 BER requirement. RZ-DQPSK format with a 1920 km reach, without FEC and without the support of additional Raman amplification, outperforms all the other schemes including 10 × 10 Gbit/s NRZ DWDM inverse multiplexing.  相似文献

In this paper, a fiber optic communication system has been employed using co-existing 10 G/2.5 G asymmetric gigabit passive optical network (XG-PON) architecture. In this system, bidirectional optical fiber has been used for upstream and downstream data transmission. The system performance has been investigated for non-return-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) data formats operating at varying bit rates by varying the length of the fiber for analyzing the feasibility of this co-existence. The results have been compared for NRZ and RZ formats for upstream and downstream data in terms of Q value and eye opening. It is observed that RZ modulation format is superior as compared to conventional NRZ format and the faithful transmission of signal has been carried up to 90 km at 1577 nm for downstream and 140 km at 1270 nm for upstream.  相似文献

In this work, we numerically investigate the performances of optical regenerators based on self-phase modulation and spectral offset filtering at 40 Gbit/s. We outline the different effects affecting the device performances and explain the choice of the optimal working power. In the modulation and demodulation methods of the optical differential quadrature phase shift key (DQPSK) and the different modulation formats including nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CS-RZ) are introduced, studying the different optical signals in the 40 Gb/s high speed transmission system. The system is simulated in 200 km optical fiber by way of dispersion compensation. It is showed that the ability of anti-dispersion and anti-PMD (polarization mode dispersion) is better in the CS-RZ-DQPSK modulation format, and this format has the smallest eye-opening penalty (EOP) with a wider range of power into the optical fiber.  相似文献

In this paper, we have analyzed the signal processing methods both in digital and optical domain to enhance the transmission performance of downstream signalling in long reach passive optical networks (LR-PONs). The impact of non-linear (NL) equalization through signal processing, i.e. Volterra Equalization (VE), Digital Backpropagation (BP) and Optical Phase Conjugation with Non-linearity Module (OPC-NM) is investigated, in 10 Gbit/s (XG) DP-QPSK long-reach wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) PONs without midspan repeaters over 120 km standard single mode fibre (SMF) link for down-stream signals. Due to the compensation of optical Kerr effects, the sensitivity penalty is reduced to 2 dB by BP algorithm, 1.5 dB by VE algorithm and 2.69 dB by OPC-NM. Moreover, with the implementation of NL equalization technique we are able to get the transmission distance of 126.6 km SMF for the 1:1024 split-ratio at 5 GHz channel spacing in the non-linear region. Furthermore, the concept of super passive optical network (S-PON) is also evaluated, which involves a repeater stage consisting of optical amplifiers, to study the feasibility for receiver side signal processing and simplification.  相似文献

A 40 Gbit/s optical 3R regenerator is proposed and demonstrated. The 3R regenerator consists of a dual-ring injection mode-locked fiber ring laser as the clock recovery module and an electroabsorption modulator (EAM) as the decision gate. The clock recovery module extracts the optical short pulse clock with low timing jitter from degraded 40 Gbit/s optical data streams, while the decision gate restores their signal quality. A numerical model describing the cross-absorption modulation effect in a bulk EAM is developed to explore the operating conditions, such as bias voltage, pump signal power. The timing jitter tolerance for the EAM optical gate is also investigated. Significantly improvement of BER is obtained from 40 Gbit/s RZ signals which are degraded by polarization mode dispersion or chromatic dispersion.  相似文献

The gain flattening of the erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is one of the most important aspects in the EDFA which the gain is wavelength dependent. For the first time the limitation of EDFA gain optimizing for a 32-channel wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems is investigated and reported in this paper. In a 32-channel WDM system the most favorable flatness gain achieved was 23.16 ± 1.51 dB with an average noise figure of 5.70 dB. This outcome proposes that the method does not achieve a uniform spectral gain in a 32-channel WDM system that incorporates a bandwidth of around 25 nm. Based on the simulation results the intrinsic optimization of EDFA causes the poor SNR and peak signal power with great variation over a transmission distance of 480 km single mode fiber.  相似文献

We quantify the error statistics and patterning effects in a 5 × 40 Gbit/s WDM RZ-OOK SMF/DCF fibre link using hybrid Raman/EDFA amplification. By extensive use of a numerical model, we determine how the error statistics change with the transmission distance. This knowledge is used as a basis for a constrained coding technique in order to improve the transmission error rate. We propose an adaptive constrained code for mitigation of the patterning effects and demonstrate that this approach can substantially reduce the bit error rate (BER) even for very large values of the channel BER (BER > 10− 1). The proposed technique can be used in combination with forward error correction schemes (FEC) to extend the range of channel BERs that an FEC scheme is effective over.  相似文献

In the gigabit-capable passive optical network (GPON) optical communication system, the selection of fiber and system performance-analysis is the key links for the realization of system function. Especially the characteristic budget and parameter setting of downlink receiver are topped the list. The analysis of receiver power penalty can reduce the influence on receiver sensitivity and bit error rate (BER) that caused by waveguide dispersion and pulse widening. This article will simulate the performance of GPON downlink receiver, then analyze typical characteristics such as Four Wave Mixing (FWM), Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), system eye pattern and Q factor and so on, so as to validate the feasibility of the optical downlink.  相似文献

We present experimental and theoretical results on all-optical 10 and 20 Gb/s RZ to NRZ modulation format and wavelength converter based on a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). A vector model of converter was developed and the shape of converted pulses was found analytically for particular choice of polarization states. In the experiment, non-zero dispersion shifted fiber with a length 1200 m was used as a nonlinear medium. Pulses from a 10 GHz mode-locked semiconductor laser diode were modulated to form pseudorandom RZ signal and eventually time division multiplexed to 20 Gb/s. RZ pulses were subsequently converted to NRZ signal. The performance of the converter was evaluated experimentally using the data communication analyzer and bit error ratio tester.  相似文献

This paper presents experimental investigations of the all-optical synchronization of a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser self-pulsating at 40 GHz on various injected bit-rate signals. Even though there is no modulation applied to this laser, it exhibits a modulation of its output emission, measured at 39.7 GHz with a linewidth of 30 MHz. Such performance is exploited in all-optical clock recovery for a return-to-zero data stream at 40 Gbit/s. The SP-DBR laser wavelength and the injected signal wavelength are 10 nm apart. All-optical synchronization is demonstrated at 40 Gbit/s with a linewidth of less than 20 MHz for injected signals at 10 and 20 Gbit/s, respectively. Thus the SP-DBR laser proves to be very versatile and can be synchronized on various bit-rate data signals.  相似文献
