Single-shot measurement of terahertz electromagnetic pulses by use of electro-optic sampling

We demonstrate a simple scheme for capturing the temporal waveforms of a freely propagating terahertz electromagnetic transient in a single shot. The method relies on electro-optic sampling in a noncollinear geometry for the terahertz radiation and the visible probe beam, coupled with multichannel detection. The approach provides time resolution that is comparable to that of conventional electro-optic sampling measurements.     

Single-shot terahertz pulse characterization via two-dimensional electro-optic imaging with dual echelons

A single-shot measurement of terahertz electromagnetic pulses is implemented using two-dimensional electro-optic imaging with dual echelon optics. The reported embodiment produces sequentially delayed multiprobe beamlets, routinely providing a time window of >10 ps with ~25 fs temporal step sizes. Because of its simplicity and robustness, the technique is ideally suited for real-time ultrashort relativistic electron bunch characterization.     

Generation and detection of terahertz radiation with multilayered electro-optic polymer films

We use optical rectification and electro-optic sensing to generate and detect terahertz radiation, using individual and multilayered stacks of electro-optic polymer films. For comparable thickness, the polymer films are more efficient generators and detectors of terahertz radiation than ZnTe crystals.     

Efficiency of terahertz detection in electro-optic polymer sensors with interdigitated coplanar electrodes

We discuss the efficiency of an electro-optic （EO） polymer sensor with interdigitated coplanar electrodes. The developed EO sensor is used to detect terahertz radiation via EO sampling. Results show that the sensor improves more significantly detection sensitivity than does a sensor with sandwich configurations.     

Bayesian approach to non-Gaussian field statistics for diffusive broadband terahertz pulses

We develop a closed-form expression for the probability distribution function for the field components of a diffusive broadband wave propagating through a random medium. We consider each spectral component to provide an individual observation of a random variable, the configurationally averaged spectral intensity. Since the intensity determines the variance of the field distribution at each frequency, this random variable serves as the Bayesian prior that determines the form of the non-Gaussian field statistics. This model agrees well with experimental results.     

Highly efficient terahertz electro-optic sampling by material optimization at 1060 nm

Different electro-optic crystals (CdTe, DAST, GaAs, GaP, and ZnTe) are investigated with respect to their ability as detection crystals for terahertz pulse electro-optic sampling at a wavelength of 1060 nm. Calculations of the detection response are in good qualitative agreement with experimental results. While CdTe shows the strongest signal for applications below 1 THz, GaP exhibits a broadband spectrum. By the choice of an adequate crystal a comparable detection efficiency to electro-optic sampling at a wavelength of 800 nm can be achieved.     

0.14THz高功率太赫兹脉冲的频率测量

提出了采用截止波导法与谐波混频法相结合的方式,进行0.14THz高功率短脉冲的频率测量.首先将两个截止频率分别为0.125和0.15THz的非标准矩形波导作为接收端,通过截止波导滤波法获得了太赫兹辐射源的频率范围.然后根据已知的频率范围,将本振频率选择为15—20GHz,则谐波混频的谐波次数确定为8.随后的Ka波段的脉冲测试和0.14THz连续波测试表明,该8次谐波混频器可用于0.14THz脉冲的混频测量.最后,0.14THz脉冲频率测量实验给出了太赫兹辐射源的准确频率为0.1465THz.该方法大大降低了对本振信号的频率要求,且结果准确可信,为长波段太赫兹脉冲的频率测量提供了一种新的思路.     

Time-resolved,hot-electron conductivity measurement using an electro-optic sampling technique

A picosecond electro-optical sampling technique has, for the first time, been used for measuring the high-electrical-field instabilities in a semiconductor. Current-voltage-characteristics and the high-field domain nucleation time for n-type In_0.53 Ga_0.47 As samples have been measured with a time resolution better than 10 ps and compared with existing theoretical calculations.     

偏振方向对THz电光探测影响的理论研究

采用线性电光效应耦合波理论，系统地研究了用无中心反演对称性的立方晶系晶体作为探测晶体时，terahertz(THz)辐射信号和探测光的偏振方向对电光探测的影响. 研究结果发现，THz辐射和探测光的偏振方向都对电光探测影响很大，沿(110)方向传播时可以获得最大的探测灵敏度，最适合THz的横场探测. 计算研究的部分结果与已有的实验结果相一致，可为电光探测器的设计提供有用的指导. 关键词： 电光探测 THz辐射 偏振 线性电光效应耦合波理论     

ZnTe晶体中光学整流产生的THz辐射及其电光探测研究

借助抽运-探测技术研究了ZnTe晶体中光学整流产生的太赫兹(THz)辐射，利用ZnTe晶体的线性电光效应探测THz辐射场分布，观察到了较窄(约为0.2 ps)的THz场分布及相应较宽(响应超过4 THz，半峰宽约为2.4 THz)的THz频谱，并运用琼斯矩阵对实验结果进行了理论拟合. 研究了飞秒激光脉冲波长(750—850 nm)、脉冲宽度(56—225 fs)和晶体旋转与THz辐射产生的关系. 同时改变探测光偏振方向进行偏振调制，并从理论上分析了偏振调制对THz辐射探测的影响. 关键词： THz辐射 光学整流 电光探测 ZnTe     

Real-time measurement of temporal waveforms of a terahertz pulse using a probe pulse with a tilted pulse front

We propose a novel method that uses a femtosecond pulse with a tilted pulse front as a probe pulse to perform real-time measurement of temporal waveforms of a terahertz pulse. This method can operate on a single shot in principle. Real-time measurement of the terahertz pulse was achieved using the dynamic subtraction method with a synchronized high-speed complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor sensor. A time window of 2.6 ps was achieved. This value agrees well with results that were calculated theoretically and measured by an interferometric inverted field autocorrelator.     

High-power terahertz pulse sensor with overmoded structure

Based on the hot electron effect in a semiconductor, an overmoded resistive sensor for 0.3-0.4 THz band is investi-gated. The distribution of electromagnetic field components, voltage standing wave ratio （VSWR）, and the average electric field in the silicon block are obtained by using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain （FDTD） method. By adjusting several factors （such as the length, width, height and specific resistance of the silicon block） a novel sensor with optimal structural parameters that can be used as a power measurement device for high power terahertz pulse directly is proposed. The results show that the sensor has a relative sensitivity of about 0.24 kW 1, with a fluctuation of relative sensitivity of no more than ±22%, and the maximum of VSWR is 2.74 for 0.3-0.4 THz band.

针对一种已经完成模拟设计、工艺研究及成品开发,且线度仅为百μm量级的太赫兹脉冲热载流子探测芯片展开了几何参数及电参数测试,并对其性能进行了分析探讨。结果表明:探测芯片具有较小的几何加工偏差和良好的欧姆接触效果;模拟计算的结果表明这种量级几何加工偏差对相对灵敏度影响可以忽略;综合分析各种测试测量结果,进一步验证了芯片开发工艺和测试结果的有效性。

非平行偏振双色场驱动产生脉宽稳定的单个宽谱阿秒脉冲

提出一种直接得到脉宽稳定的单个宽谱阿秒脉冲的新方法.利用波长为800 nm脉宽为5 fs的超短脉冲叠加上偏振方向与主脉冲成π/3,脉宽同样为5 fs的二次谐波脉冲驱动氦原子,可以得到宽度达到50 eV的超连续谱.当二次谐波的强度大于10¹⁴ W/cm²时,超连续谱的位置以及谱宽几乎不会随着二次谐波脉冲的强度的改变而改变.对85—125 eV的超连续谱进行滤波可以直接得到100 as左右的单个阿秒脉冲,这个性质对于实验上获得单个宽谱阿秒脉冲而言是非常有利的. 关键词： 阿秒脉冲 超连续谱     

Ultrashort pulse characterization with a terahertz streak camera

A phase-locked terahertz transient is exploited as an ultrafast phase gate for femtosecond optical pulses. We directly map out the group delay dispersion of a low-power near-infrared pulse by measuring the electro-optically induced polarization rotation as a function of wavelength. Our experiment covers the spectral window from 1.0 to 1.4 μm and reaches a temporal precision better than 1 fs. A quantitative analysis of the detector response confirms that this streaking technique requires no reconstruction algorithm and is also well suited for the characterization of pulses spanning more than one optical octave.     

Terahertz real-time imaging with balanced electro-optic detection

We propose a method for two-dimensional terahertz (THz) real-time imaging which systemically integrates the THz balanced electro-optic sampling technique and the dynamic subtraction technique. The proposed method can effectively improve the signal to noise ratio and the spectrum measurement accuracy of the imaging system. Experiment results demonstrate the advantage of the method.     

The measurement of the electrical field distribution by external electro-optic measuring system with submicrometre spatial resolution

A GaAs solid immersion lens has been applied to the external electric-optic measuring system. The spatial resolution of the system is improved to 0.7 μm because of the increased effective number aperture. We measured the electrical field distribution of ceramic microstrip lines transversely. The variation of electrical field with a submicrometre interval has been revealed experimentally and the results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis.     

《331》晶向ZnTe单晶的太赫兹辐射及探测

通过Te熔剂方法生长出〈331〉晶向的ZnTe体单晶,利用X射线衍射和红外透射显微技术对材料进行了测试.在钛-宝石激光器的泵浦下,利用〈331〉晶向的ZnTe晶体辐射-探测到太赫兹波,激发频谱可达5 THz左右.〈331〉晶向的ZnTe晶体表现出良好的太赫兹辐射性能.     

Femtosecond pulse duration measurement by two-photon fluorescence detection

The two-photon absorption induced fluorescence in a methanolic rhodamine 6G solution is used to measure the pulse duration of a cw femtosecond Kerr–lens mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser by a Michelson-interferometer-type autocorrelator arrangement. Interference-free autocorrelation traces are obtained by correlating perpendicular polarized pulses. The two-photon polarization parameter of rhodamine 6G is determined by contrast ratio measurement. The time resolution limits are discussed.
