A stable weakly interacting massive particle can simultaneously solve both the solar neutrino and missing mass problems. In a previous paper we have identified this particle with a neutral lepton with mass of order 4–10 GeV and an anomalous magnetic moment of order 10−2 (in natural units). We call this new particle a “magnino”. In one scenario, the magnino is the neutral component of an electroweak doublet. Its charged partner must have a mass only a few GeV heavier. In this paper we discuss the experimental consequences of the magnino, its charged partner and associated Higgs.  相似文献

A search for a nonzero neutrino magnetic moment has been conducted using 1496 live days of solar neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande-I. Specifically, we searched for distortions to the energy spectrum of recoil electrons arising from magnetic scattering due to a nonzero neutrino magnetic moment. In the absence of a clear signal, we found micro(nu)相似文献

The new Yukawa couplings involving heavy matter E6 fields predicted in the framework of superstring theories are considered as a source of mass and magnetic moment for the neutrino. Given the experimental bound mve < 46 eV bounds are derived on the neutrino magnetic moment thus generated. Finally, a scenario is produced where the induced magnetic moment has the correct magnitude (∼10−11 μB) to explain an alleged depletion or solar neutrino flux during periods of maximum solar activity.  相似文献

A SU(2) H symmetric variant of Zee model of lepton flavor violation is presented and is shown to lead to neutrino transition magnetic moment of the order required to explain the solar neutrino deficit and the possible anticorrelation of solar neutrino flux with sunspot activity via VVO mechanism. The use of horizontal symmetry leads to totally degenerate neutrino states which may be combined to form a ZKM Dirac neutrino with naturally small mass.  相似文献

We examine mechanisms for producing neutrino magnetic moments from a wide class of particle theories which are extensions of the standard model. We show that it is difficult to naturally obtain a moment greater than ∼ 10−2 electron Bohr magnetons. Thus models of phenomena requiring moments of order ∼ 10−10 magnetons, such as those proposed as a resolution to the solar neutrino puzzle, are in conflict with current perceptions in particle physics.  相似文献

We present a model where an unstable MeV Majorana tau neutrino can naturally reconcile the cold dark matter model (CDM) with cosmological observations of large and small scale density fluctuations and, simultaneously, with data on solar and atmospheric neutrinos. The solar neutrino deficit is explained through long wavelength, so-called just-so oscillations involving conversions of νe into both νμ and a sterile species νs , while atmospheric neutrino data are explained through νμ to νe conversions. Future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, as well as some reactor experiments will test this hypothesis. The model is based on the spontaneous violation of a global lepton number symmetry at the weak scale. This symmetry plays a key role in generating the cosmologically required decay of the ντ with lifetime τντ ≈ 102-104 seconds, as well as the masses and oscillations of the three light neutrinos νe, νμ and νs required in order to account for solar and atmospheric neutrino data. It also leads to the invisibly decaying Higgs signature that can be searched at LEP and future particle colliders.  相似文献

The analysis of the most recent solar neutrino data in the light of the resonant spin flip flavour conversion of neutrinos in the Sun suggests the existence of two possible solutions for the solar neutrino problem, one of them associated with a neutrino flavour mass square difference of the order of 10?8 eV2 and the other of the order of 10?5eV2. The magnetic moment is in the range μv= (10?12 ? 10?11) μB. In the first possibility the most energetic neutrinos will have their resonance in the solar onvective zone. This indicates that the forthcoming SNO and Icarus experiments are very well placed to test this solution through the anticorrelation effect with sunspot activity that may be present in the Homestake data but still remains an open question.  相似文献

We have analysed the solar neutrino data obtained from chlorine, gallium and Super-Kamiokande (SK) experiments (1258 days) and also the new results that came from Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) charge current (CC) and elastic scattering (ES) experiments considering that the solar neutrino deficit is due to the interaction of neutrino transition magnetic moment with the solar magnetic field. We have also analysed the moments of the spectrum of scattered electrons at SK. Another new feature in the analysis is that for the global analysis, we have replaced the spectrum by its centroid.  相似文献

We discuss the impact of different solar neutrino data on the spin-flavor-precession (SFP) mechanism of neutrino conversion. We find that, although detailed solar rates and spectra allow the SFP solution as a subleading effect, the recent KamLAND constraint on the solar antineutrino flux places stronger constraints on this mechanism. Moreover, we show that for the case of random magnetic fields inside the Sun, one obtains a more stringent constraint on the neutrino magnetic moment down to the level of mu(nu)< or = few x 10(-12)mu(B), similar to bounds obtained from star cooling.  相似文献

The cross section of B solar neutrino scattering involving the contribution of neutrino magnetic moment (NMM) is investigated. The constraints on the probability of flip of neutrino helicity and the possible value of NMM are extracted from the Kamiokande-II solar neutrino data and calculated cross section of ve, scattering. It is found that the probability of neutrino helicity flip allowed by the Kamiokande-Ⅱ data may be small, which would be difficult to understand the 37Cl data.  相似文献

Within the supersymmetric flipped SU(5)×U(1) model, we propose a mechanism for realization of the Voloshin-Vysotsky-Okun solution to the solar neutrino problem by attributing a large magnetic moment to the electron neutrino, as required to explain the solar neutrino data.  相似文献

We present two models where the magnetic moment of the electron neutrino can be as high as the experimental bound of 10−10 Bohr magnetons. The models, one in which the neutrinos are Dirac particles and the other where they are Majorana particles possessing transition moments, are consistent with known experiments and are realizations of a recent suggestion by Voloshin, Vysotsky and Okun to explain the solar neutrino experiment.  相似文献

We investigate in detail the question of lepton-flavour violation in a SU(2) × U(1) supersymmetric model, where the breaking of supersymmetry (SUSY) is achieved through the coupling to N = 1 supergravity. It is shown that in the limit of degenerate neutrino masses, lepton flavour is exactly conserved. Allowing for neutrino masses compatible with present experimental limits, we analyse SUSY contributions to several lepton-flavour violating processes, comparing the size of these contributions with those already present in the standard Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model. In the case of μ → eγ, SUSY leads to a branching ratio two or three orders of magnitude larger than the corresponding branching ratio in the standard model, for gravitino and photino masses compatible with the experimental limits on the muon anomalous magnetic moment. In contrast, SUSY contributions to are always small, of the order of 10−2 of the corresponding amplitudes in the standard model, if the gravitino and photino masses are constrained by the KL − KS mass difference.  相似文献

Theories involving extra dimensions, a low (TeV) string scale and bulk singlet neutrinos will produce an effective neutrino magnetic moment which may be large (10−11μB). The effective magnetic moment increases with neutrino energy, and therefore high energy reactions are most useful for limiting the allowed number of extra dimensions. We examine constraints from both neutrino-electron scattering and also astrophysical environments. We find that supernova energy loss considerations require a number of extra dimensions, n≥2, for an electron neutrino-bulk neutrino Yukawa coupling of order 1.  相似文献

The motivations for the magnetic moment solution to the solar neutrino problem are briefly reviewed and the expected values for a number of observables to be measured by the SNO experiment are calculated assuming three different solar magnetic field profiles. The observables examined are the charged current event rate, the ratio of the neutral current to the charged current event rates and the charged current electron spectrum as well as their first and second moments. The dependence of results on the hep neutrino flux is also analysed and a comparison is made with the corresponding oscillation results.  相似文献

Following recent results from the SNO solar neutrino experiment and the K2K long-baseline neutrino experiment, the combined existing data on neutrino oscillations now point strongly to a specific form for the lepton mixing matrix, with effective bimaximal mixing of νμ and ντ at the atmospheric scale and effective trimaximal mixing for νe with νμ and ντ at the solar scale (hence ‘tri-bimaximal’ mixing). We give simple mass-matrices leading to tri-bimaximal mixing, and discuss its relation to the Fritzsch–Xing democratic ansatz.  相似文献

We consider the generation of neutrino Majorana mass and transition magnetic moment by the lepton-number violating λ and/or λ′ couplings in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models. We update (and improve) the existing upper limits on the relevant couplings using the most recent data on neutrino masses and mixings, indicating also the possible improvement by the GENIUS project. We study the implication of this update on the induced neutrino magnetic moment.  相似文献

A device of a new type—a germanium detector with an internal amplification—is proposed. Having the effective threshold of about 10 eV, the detector opens up a fresh opportunity for investigating dark matter, measuring the neutrino magnetic moment, exploring coherent neutrino scattering off nuclei, and studying the solar-neutrino problem. The design of the germanium detector with an internal amplification and prospects for its use are described.  相似文献

We present a necessary condition on the solar oscillation amplitude for CP violation to be detectable through neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay. It depends only on the fractional uncertainty in the νe–νe element of the neutrino mass matrix. We demonstrate that even under very optimistic assumptions about the sensitivity of future experiments to the absolute neutrino mass scale, and on the precision with which nuclear matrix elements that contribute to 0νββ decay are calculable, it will be impossible to detect neutrino CP violation arising from Majorana phases.  相似文献

Time variations of solar neutrino flux are investigated on the basis of available Homestake experimental data for more than two solar cycles (1970–1994). At first, we determine (with the weight-time function by taking into account 37Ar decay), for each solar neutrino run n, the effective Earth’s heliolatitude L eff(n), the effective Zurich sunspots number Z eff(n), the effective latitude of sunspots distribution Λeff(n), and the effective surfaces of sunspots in different heliolatitude belts. Then, we consider the correlation of solar-electron-neutrino fluxes with these parameters for different periods of solar activity. It is found that correlation coefficients change sign in different periods of solar activity, so that for total period 1970–1994 the correlation coefficient is very small. The obtained information indicates that a neutrino should have nonzero mass and nonzero magnetic moment.  相似文献
