Measurements of liquid base film thickness distribution have been obtained for 206 horizontal annular two-phase (air–water) flow conditions in 8.8 mm, 15.1 mm, and 26.3 mm ID tubes. It is found that the trends in base film thickness measurement do not match trends in the literature for average film thickness, which considers waves and base film together. An iterative critical friction factor model is used to model circumferentially-averaged base film thickness; an explicit, empirical correlation is also provided. Asymmetry is well-correlated by a modified Froude number based on the correlated base film thickness and the gas mass flux. The iterative model is also extended to estimate the critical film flow rate.  相似文献

The above referenced paper, published in International Journal of Multiphase Flow (Pan and Hanratty, 2002), proposed an entrainment fraction correlation for annular flow in horizontal pipes. The entrainment fraction in annular flow is defined as the ratio of the mass flow rate of the liquid droplets in the gas to the total mass flow of liquid, FE = WLE/WL. The proposed correlation was verified with experimental data for liquids with viscosities close to that of water. The proposed entrainment fraction correlation includes another correlation for the critical film flow rate, WF,cr to estimate a maximum entrainment fraction FE,max. It is shown that the critical film flow rate correlation can result in negative maximum entrainment fraction values, for low liquid flow rates.  相似文献

An experimental study of evaporation heat transfer coefficients for single circular small tubes was conducted for the flow of C3H8, NH3, and CO2 under various flow conditions. The test matrix encompasses the entire quality range from 0.0 to 1.0, mass fluxes from 50 to 600 kg m−2 s−1, heat fluxes from 5 to 70 kW m−2, and saturation temperatures from 0 to 10 °C. The test section was made of circular stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm, and a length of 2000 mm in a horizontal orientation. The test section was uniformly heated by applying electric power directly to the tubes. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, saturation temperature, and inner tube diameter on the heat transfer coefficient are reported. Among the working refrigerants considered in this study, CO2 has the highest heat transfer coefficient. Laminar flow was observed in the evaporative small tubes, and was considered in the modification of boiling heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop correlations.  相似文献

This paper is a continuation of the author’s previous work. New experimental data on the occurrence of choked flow phenomenon and mass flow rate of HFC-134a inside short-tube orifices under choked flow condition are presented. Short-tube orifices diameters ranging from 0.406 mm to 0.686 mm with lengths ranging from 1 mm to 3 mm which can be applied to a miniature vapour-compression refrigeration system are examined. The experimental results indicated that the occurrence of choked flow phenomena inside short-tube orifices is different from that obtained from short-tube orifice diameters of greater than 1 mm, which are typically used in air-conditioner. The beginning of choked flow is dependent on the downstream pressure, degree of subcooling, and length-to-diameter ratio. Under choked flow condition, the mass flow rate is greatly varied with the short-tube orifice dimension, but it is slightly affected by the operating conditions. A correlation of mass flow rate through short-tube orifices is proposed in terms of the dimensionless parameters. The predicted results show good agreement with experimental data with a mean deviation of 4.69%.  相似文献

To utilize the advantageous properties of two-phase flow in microgravity applications, the knowledge base of two-phase flow phenomena must be extended to include the effects of gravity. In the experiment described, data regarding the behavior of two-phase flow in a conduit under microgravity conditions (essentially zero gravity) are explored. Of particular interest, knowledge of the void fraction of the gas and liquid in a conduit is necessary to develop models for heat and mass transfer, pressure drop, and wall shear. An experiment was conducted under reduced gravity conditions to collect data by means of a capacitance void fraction sensor and high speed visual imagery. Independent parameters were varied to map the flow regime regions. These independent parameters include gas and liquid volumetric flow rates and saturation pressures. Void fraction measurements were taken at a rate of 100 Hz with six sensors at two locations along the conduit. Further, statistical parameters were developed from the void fraction measurements. Statistical parameters such as variance, signal-to-noise ratio, half height value, and linear area difference were calculated and found to have characteristics allowing flow regime identification.  相似文献

An experimental investigation has been undertaken to understand the phase split of nitrogen gas/non-Newtonian liquid two-phase flow passing through a 0.5 mm T-junction that oriented horizontally. Four different liquids, including water and aqueous solutions of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with different mass concentrations of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 wt%, were employed. Rheology experiments showed that different from water, CMC solutions in this study are pseudoplastic non-Newtonian fluid whose viscosity decreases with increasing the shear rate. The inlet flow patterns were observed to be slug flow, slug–annular flow and annular flow. The fraction of liquid taken off at the side arm for nitrogen gas/non-Newtonian liquid systems is found to be higher than that for nitrogen gas/Newtonian liquid systems in all inlet flow patterns. In addition, with increasing the pseudoplasticity of the liquid phase, the side arm liquid taken off increases, but the increasing degree varies with each flow pattern. For annular flow, the increasing degree is much greater than those for slug and slug–annular flows.  相似文献

The flow boiling patterns of liquid nitrogen in a vertical mini-tube with an inner diameter of 1.931 mm are visualized with a high-speed digital camera. The superficial gas and liquid velocities are in the ranges of 0.01–26.5 m/s and 0.01–1.2 m/s, respectively. Four typical flow patterns, namely, bubbly, slug, churn and annular flow are observed. Some interesting scenes about the entrainment and liquid droplet deposition in the churn and annular flow, and the flow reversal with the indication of negative pressure drop, are also presented. Based on the visualization, the two-phase flow regime maps are obtained. Compared with the flow regime maps for gas–water flow in tubes with similar hydraulic diameters, the region of slug flow in the present study reduces significantly. Correspondingly, the transition boundary from the bubbly flow to slug flow shifts to higher superficial gas velocity, and that of churn to annular flow moves to lower superficial gas velocity. Moreover, time-averaged void fraction is calculated by quantitative image-digitizing technique and compared with various prediction models. Finally, three kinds of oscillations with long-period and large-amplitude are found, possible explanation for the oscillations is given by comparing the instantaneous flow images with the data of pressure, mass flux and temperature recorded synchronously.  相似文献

The adiabatic two-phase frictional multipliers for SUVA, R-134a flowing in a rectangular duct (with DH = 4.8 mm) have been measured for three nominal system pressures (0.9 MPa, Tsat = 35.5 °C; 1.38 MPa, Tsat = 51.8 °C; and 2.41 MPa, Tsat = 75.9 °C) and three nominal mass fluxes (510, 1020 and 2040 kg/m2/s). The data is compared with several classical correlations to assess their predictive capabilities. The Lockhart–Martinelli model gives reasonable results at the lowest pressure and mass flux, near the operating range of most refrigeration systems, but gives increasingly poor comparisons as the pressure and mass flux are increased. The Chisholm B-coefficient model is found to best predict the data over the entire range of test conditions; however, there is significant disagreement at the highest pressure tested (with the model over predicting the data upwards of 100% for some cases). The data shows an increased tendency toward homogeneous flow as the pressure and flow rate are increased, and in fact the homogeneous model best predicts the bulk of the data at the highest pressure tested.  相似文献

Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and pressure drop of R22, propylene, propane, DME and isobutane are measured on a horizontal plain tube. The main test section in the experimental flow loop is made of a plain copper tube of 8.8 mm inner diameter and 530 mm length. The refrigerant is cooled by passing cold water through the annulus surrounding the test section. Tests are performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of 40 ± 0.2 °C with mass fluxes of 100, 200, and 300 kg/m2 s and heat flux of 7.3–7.7 kW/m2. The heat transfer and pressure drop data are obtained in the vapor quality range of 10–90%. Test results show that for a given mass flux the flow condensation HTCs of propylene, propane, DME and isobutane are higher than those of R22 by up to 46.8%, 53.3%, 93.5% and 61.6%, respectively. Also well-known correlations developed based upon conventional fluorocarbon refrigerants predict the present data within a mean deviation of 33%. Finally, the pressure drop increases as the mass flux and quality increase and isobutane shows the highest pressure drop due to its lowest vapor pressure among the fluids tested.  相似文献

Critical heat flux (CHF) experiments using deionized water as working fluid have been conducted in a range of pressure from 0.6 to 4.2 MPa, mass flow velocity from 60 to 130 kg/ms and wall heat flux from 10 to 90 kW/m2 for vertical narrow annuli with annular gap sizes of 0.95 and 1.5 mm. We found that the CHF, occurring only on the inside tube, or on the outside tube or on both tubes of the annular channel, depends on the heat flux ratio between surfaces of the outside and inside tubes. The CHF, occurring on the surface of the inside tube, reaches the maximum value under the pressure of 2.3 MPa while it occurring on the surface of the outside tube keeps increasing with the increase of the pressure. The CHF, occurring on the inside or outside tubes, increases with the increase of the mass flow velocity and the annular gap size; and decreases with the increase of critical quality and the other tube wall heat flux. Empirical correlations, which agree quite well with the experimental data, have been developed to predict the CHF occurring on surfaces of the inside or outside tubes of the narrow annular channel on the conditions of low pressure and low flow.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to analyze flow boiling characteristics of water in a single brass microchannel of 25 mm length, 201 μm width, and 266 μm depth. Different heat flux conditions were tested for each of two different mass flow rates over three different values of inlet fluid temperature. Temporal and spatial surface temperature profiles were analyzed to show the relative effect of axial heat conduction on temperature rise along the channel length and the effect of flow regime transition on local surface temperature oscillation. Vapor bubble growth rate increased with increasing wall superheat. The slower a bubble grew, the further it was carried downstream by the moving liquid. Bubble growth was suppressed for increased mass flux while the vapor bubble was less than the channel diameter. The pressure spike of an elongating vapor bubble was shown to suppress the growth of a neighboring bubble by more than 50% of its volume. An upstream progression of the Onset of Bubble Elongation (OBE) was observed that began at the channel exit and progressed upstream. The effects of conjugate heat transfer were observed when different flow regime transitions produced different rates of progression for the elongation sequence. Instability was observed at lower heat fluxes for this single channel experiment than for similar studies with multiple channels.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental study carried out with R-134a during flow boiling in a horizontal tube of 2.6 mm ID. The experimental tests included (i) heat fluxes in the range from 10 to 100 kW/m2, (ii) the refrigerant mass velocities set to the discrete values in the range of 240-930 kg/(m2 s) and (iii) saturation temperature of 12 and 22 °C. The study analyzed the heat transfer, through the local heat transfer coefficient along of flow, and pressure drop, under the variation of these different parameters. It was possible to observe the significant influence of heat flux in the heat transfer coefficient and mass velocity in the pressure drop, besides the effects of saturation temperature. In the low quality region, it was possible to observe a significant influence of heat flux on the heat transfer coefficient. In the high vapor quality region, for high mass velocities, this influence tended to vanish, and the coefficient decreased. The influence of mass velocity in the heat transfer coefficient was detected in most tests for a threshold value of vapor quality, which was higher as the heat flux increased. For higher heat flux the heat transfer coefficient was nearly independent of mass velocity. The frictional pressure drop increased with the increase in vapor quality and mass velocity. Predictive models for heat transfer coefficient in mini channels were evaluated and the calculated coefficient agreed well with measured data within a range 35% for saturation temperature of 22 °C. These results extend the ranges of heat fluxes and mass velocities beyond values available in literature, and add a substantial contribution to the comprehension of boiling heat transfer phenomena inside mini channels.  相似文献

The nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficient of ammonia/water mixture was investigated on a cylindrical heated surface at low pressure of 4-8 bar and at low mass fraction of 0 < xNH3 < 0.3 and at different heat flux. The effect of mass fraction, heat flux and pressure on boiling heat transfer coefficient was studied. The results indicate that the heat transfer coefficient in the mixture decreases with increase in ammonia mass fraction, increases with increase in heat flux and pressure in the investigated range. The measured heat transfer coefficient was compared with existing correlations. The experimental data were predicted with an accuracy of ±20% by the correlation of Calus&Rice, correlation of Stephan-Koorner and Inoue-Monde correlation for ammonia/water mixture in the investigated range of low ammonia mass fraction. The empirical constant of the first two correlations is modified by fitting the correlation to the present experimental data. The modified Calus&Rice correlation predicts the present experimental data with an accuracy of ±18% and the modified Stephan-Koorner correlation with an accuracy of ±16%.  相似文献

Subcooled flow boiling heat transfer for refrigerant R-134a in vertical cylindrical tubes with 0.83, 1.22 and 1.70 mm internal diameter was experimentally investigated. The effects of the heat flux, q″ = 1–26 kW/m2, mass flux, G = 300–700 kg/m2 s, inlet subcooling, ΔTsub,i = 5–15 °C, system pressure, P = 7.70–10.17 bar, and channel diameter, D, on the subcooled boiling heat transfer were explored in detail. The results are presented in the form of boiling curves and heat transfer coefficients. The boiling curves evidenced the existence of hysteresis when increasing the heat flux until the onset of nucleate boiling, ONB. The wall superheat at ONB was found to be essentially higher than that predicted with correlations for larger tubes. An increase of the mass flux leads, for early subcooled boiling, to an increase in the heat transfer coefficient. However, for fully developed subcooled boiling, increases of the mass flux only result in a slight improvement of the heat transfer. Higher inlet subcooling, higher system pressure and smaller channel diameter lead to better boiling heat transfer. Experimental heat transfer coefficients are compared to predictions from classical correlations available in the literature. None of them predicts the experimental data for all tested conditions.  相似文献

Experimental results of adiabatic boiling of water flowing through a fractal-like branching microchannel network are presented and compared to numerical model simulations. The goal is to assess the ability of current pressure loss models applied to a bifurcating flow geometry. The fractal-like branching channel network is based on channel length and width ratios between adjacent branching levels of 2−1/2. There are four branching sections for a total flow length of 18 mm, a channel height of 150 μm and a terminal channel width of 100 μm. The channels were Deep Reactive Ion Etched (DRIE) into a silicon disk. A Pyrex disk was anodically bonded to the silicon to form the channel top to allow visualization of the flow within the channels. The flow rates ranged from 100 to 225 g/min and the inlet subcooling levels varied from 0.5 to 6 °C. Pressure drop along the flow network and time averaged void fraction in each branching level were measured for each of the test conditions. The measured pressure drop ranged from 20 to 90 kPa, and the measured void fraction ranged from 0.3 to 0.9. The measured pressure drop results agree well with separated flow model predictions accounting for the varying flow geometry. The measured void fraction results followed the same trends as the model; however, the scatter in the experimental results is rather large.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of turbulent heat transfer in vertical upward and downward supercritical CO2 flow was conducted in a circular tube with an inner diameter of 4.5 mm. The experiments were performed for bulk fluid temperatures from 29 to 115 °C, pressures from 74.6 to 102.6 bar, local wall heat fluxes from 38 to 234 kW/m2, and mass fluxes from 208 to 874 kg/m2 s. At a moderate wall heat flux and low mass flux, the wall temperature had a noticeable peak value for vertical upward flow, but increased monotonically along the flow direction without a peak value for downward flow. The ratios of the experimental Nusselt number to the value obtained from a reference correlation were compared with Bo* and q+ distributions to observe the buoyancy and flow-acceleration effects on heat transfer. In the experimental range of this study, the flow acceleration predominantly affected the heat-transfer phenomena. Based on an analysis of the shear-stress distribution in the turbulent boundary layer and the significant variation of the specific heat across the turbulent boundary layer, a new heat-transfer correlation for vertical upward and downward flow of supercritical pressurized fluid was developed; this correlation agreed with various experimental datasets within ±30%.  相似文献

This study investigates the pressure change and flow pattern subject to the influence of sudden contractions. The air and water mixture flows from small rectangular channels (2 × 4, 2 × 6, 4 × 4 and 4 × 6 mm, respectively) into a 2 mm diameter tube. The total mass flux (G) ranges from 100 to 700 kg/m2 s with gas quality (x) being varied from 0.001 to 0.8. In general the contraction pressure change increases with the rise of mass flux, and gas quality but an unique deflection of contraction pressure change pertaining to liquid vena contracta at a very low gas quality is encountered at a very low gas quality in the 4 ± 6 mm test section. For a low gas quality, elongated bubble prevails after the contraction, yet the size of elongated bubbles is reduced when the aspect ratio is increased. Comparisons amid the pressure change data of this study and available literature data with the predictions of existing model/correlations indicate that none of them can accurately predict the data. It is found that the influence of surface tension and outlet tube size, or equivalently the Bond number plays a major role for the departure of various models/correlations. Among the models/correlations being examined, the homogeneous model shows a little better than the others. Hence by taking account the influences of gas quality, Bond number, Weber number and area contraction ratio into the homogeneous model, a modified homogeneous correlation is proposed that considerably improves the predictive ability over existing correlations with a mean deviation of 30% to all the data.  相似文献

In this work, co-current flow characteristics of air/non-Newtonian liquid systems in inclined smooth pipes are studied experimentally and theoretically using transparent tubes of 20, 40 and 60 mm in diameter. Each tube includes two 10 m long pipe branches connected by a U-bend that is capable of being inclined to any angle, from a completely horizontal to a fully vertical position. The flow rate of each phase is varied over a wide range. The studied flow phenomena are bubbly flow, stratified flow, plug flow, slug flow, churn flow and annular flow. These are observed and recorded by a high-speed camera over a wide range of operating conditions. The effects of the liquid phase properties, the inclination angle and the pipe diameter on two-phase flow characteristics are systematically studied. The Heywood–Charles model for horizontal flow was modified to accommodate stratified flow in inclined pipes, taking into account the average void fraction and pressure drop of the mixture flow of a gas/non-Newtonian liquid. The pressure drop gradient model of Taitel and Barnea for a gas/Newtonian liquid slug flow was extended to include liquids possessing shear-thinning flow behaviour in inclined pipes. The comparison of the predicted values with the experimental data shows that the models presented here provide a reasonable estimate of the average void fraction and the corresponding pressure drop for the mixture flow of a gas/non-Newtonian liquid.  相似文献

Oil–water two-phase flow experiments were conducted in a 15 m long, 8.28 cm diameter, inclinable steel pipe using mineral oil (density of 830 kg/m3 and viscosity of 7.5 mPa s) and brine (density of 1060 kg/m3 and viscosity of 0.8 mPa s). Steady-state data on flow patterns, two-phase pressure gradient and holdup were obtained over the entire range of flow rates for pipe inclinations of −5°, −2°, −1.5°, 0°, 1°, 2° and 5°. The characterization of flow patterns and identification of their boundaries was achieved via observation of recorded movies and by analysis of the relative deviation from the homogeneous behavior. A stratified wavy flow pattern with no mixing at the interface was identified in downward and upward flow. Two gamma-ray densitometers allowed for accurate measurement of the absolute in situ volumetric fraction (holdup) of each phase for all flow patterns. Extensive results of holdup and two-phase pressure gradient as a function of the superficial velocities, flow pattern and inclinations are reported. The new experimental data are compared with results of a flow pattern dependent prediction model, which uses the area-averaged steady-state two-fluid model for stratified flow and the homogeneous model for dispersed flow. Prediction accuracies for oil/water holdups and pressure gradients are presented as function of pipe inclination for all flow patterns observed. There is scope for improvement for in particular dual-continuous flow patterns.  相似文献

An experimental study has been made of the influence of gas injection on the phase inversion between oil and water flowing through a vertical tube. Particular attention was paid to the influence on the critical concentration of oil and water where phase inversion occurs and on the pressure drop increase over the tube during phase inversion. By using different types of gas injectors also the influence of the bubble size of the injected gas on the phase inversion was studied. It was found that gas injection does not significantly change the critical concentration, but the influence on the pressure drop is considerable. For mixture velocities larger than 1 m/s, the pressure drop over the tube increases with decreasing bubble size and at inversion can become even larger than the pressure drop during the flow of oil and water without gas injection.  相似文献
