In this paper, an HPLC method is used to determine the enantiomerization barrier of 2,3-pentadienedioic acid enantiomers. The racemate of 2,3-pentadienedioic acid was separated by HPLC on a chiral CHIROBIOTIC T column with a 90:10 (100:0.5:0.5 MeOH/HOAc/TEA)/H2O mobile phase. Peak areas of enantiomers prior to (A(+)0, A(-)0) and after the separation (A(+), A(-)), were used for calculation of the rate constants and the enantiomerization barrier, as determined by computer-assisted peak deconvolution of the peak clusters on the chromatograms. The kinetic equation for irreversible reactions was used to determine the apparent enantiomerization rate constants and the interconversion energy barrier. The dependence of the apparent enantiomerization barrier (deltaG1(app), deltaG-1(app)) on temperature was used to determine the apparent activation enthalpy (deltaH1(app), deltaH(-1)app) and entropy (deltaS1(app), deltaS-1(app)) for the interconversion of 2,3-pentadienedioic acid enantiomers, where the coefficients 1 and -1 designate the interconversions (+) --> (-) and (-) --> (+), respectively.  相似文献

The enantiomers of dialkyl 2,3-pentadienedioate undergo interconversion during gas chromatographic separation on chiral stationary phases. In this paper the on-column apparent interconversion kinetic and thermodynamic activation data were determined for dimethyl, diethyl, propylbutyl and dibutyl 2,3-pentadienedioate enantiomers by gas chromatographic separation of the racemic mixtures on a capillary column containing a polydimethylsiloxane stationary phase coupled to 2,3-di-O-methyl-6-O-tertbutyldimethylsilyl-beta-cyclodextrin. A deconvolution method was used to determine the individual enantiomer peak areas and retention times that are needed to calculate the interconversion rate constants and the energy barriers. The apparent rate constants and interconversion energy barriers decrease slightly with an increase in the alkyl chain length of the dialkyl 2,3-pentadienedioate esters. The optimum conformation of the dialkyl 2,3-pentadienedioate molecules, their separation selectivity factors and apparent interconversion enthalpy and entropy data changes with the alkyl chain length. The dependence of the apparent interconversion energy barrier (deltaG(app)(a-->b), deltaG(app)(b-->a)) on temperature was used to determine the apparent activation enthalpy (deltaH(app)(a-->b), deltaH(app)(b-->a)) and apparent entropy (deltaS(app)(a-->b), deltaS(app)(a-->b)) (where a denotes the first and b second eluted enantiomer). The comparison of the activation enthalpy and entropy (deltaS(app)(a-->b), deltaS(app)(a-->b)) indicated that the interconversion of dialkyl 2,3-pentadienedioate enantiomers on the HP-5+Chiraldex B-DM column series is an entropy driven process at 160 degrees C. Data obtained for dimethyl 2,3-pentadienedioate enantiomers on the HP-5+Chiraldex B-DM column series at 120 degrees C (deltaG(app)(a-->b) = 123.3 and deltaG(app)(b-->a) = 124.4 kJ mol(-1)) corresponds (at the 95% confidence interval) with the value of deltaG(#) = 128+/-1 kJ mol(-1) found at this temperature by gas chromatography using a two-dimensional stop flow technique on an empty capillary column [V. Schurig, F. Keller, S. Reich, M. Fluck, Tetrahedron: Asymmetry 8 (1997) 3475].  相似文献

The conformations of dodecamethylcyclohexasilane Si6Me12 and undecamethylcyclohexasilane Si6Me11H have been investigated by ab initio calculations employing the B3LYP density functional with a 6-31+G(d) basis set. Local minima as well as transition structures were calculated with imposed symmetry constraints. For Si6Me12, three unique minima, which correspond to the chair, twist and boat conformations were located with relative zero-point-vibration-corrected energies of 0.0, 7.8 and 11.4 kJ mol(-1). A half-chair conformation with four coplanar silicon atoms connects the chair and twisted minima via an energy barrier of 16.0 and 8.2 kJ mol(-1), respectively. A second transition structure with a barrier of 3.9/0.3 kJ mol(-1) connects the twist with the boat structure. Solution Raman spectra of Si6(CH3)12 and Si6(CD3)12 fully corroborate these results. Below -40 degrees C, the symmetric SiSi ring breathing vibration is a single line, which develops a shoulder (originating from the twist conformer) at longer wavelengths whose intensity increases with increasing temperature. From a Van't Hoff plot, the chair/twist enthalpy difference is 6.6+/-1.5 kJ mol(-1) for Si6(CH3)12 and 6.0+/-1.5 kJ mol(-1) for Si6(CD3)12, which is in reasonable agreement with the ab initio results. Due to the low barrier, the boat conformation cannot be observed, because either the lowest torsional vibration level lies above it or a rapid interconversion between the twist and boat conformations occurs, resulting in averaged Raman spectra. For Si6Me11H, six local minima were located. The chair with the hydrogen atom in the axial position (axial chair) is the global minimum, followed by the equatorial chair (+1.9 kJ mol(-1)) and the three twist conformers (+5.3, +8.0 and +8.1 kJ mol(-1)). The highest local minimum (+11.9 kJ mol(-1)) is a C(s) symmetric boat with the hydrogen atom in the equatorial position. Two possible pathways for the chair-to-chair interconversion with barriers of 13.9 and 14.5 kJ mol(-1) have been investigated. The solution Raman spectra in the SiSi ring breathing region clearly show that below -50 degrees C only the axial and equatorial chairs are present, with an experimental deltaH-value of 0.46 kJ mol(-1). With increasing temperature a shoulder develops which is attributed to the combined twist conformers. The experimental deltaH-value is 6.9 kJ mol(-1), in good agreement with the ab initio results. Due to the low interconversion barriers, the various twist conformers cannot be detected separately.  相似文献

The enantiomers of dimethyl-2,3-pentadienedioate undergo interconversion during gas chromatographic separation on 2,6-di-O-methyl-3-O-pentyl-beta-, 2,6-di-O-methyl-3-O-pentyl-gamma-, and 2,3-di-O-methyl-6-O-tert butyldimethylsilyl-beta-CD chiral stationary phases. The combination of a deconvolution method with an internal standard was used to determine individual enantiomer peak areas and retention times needed for the calculation of the interconversion rate constants and the energy barrier for dimethyl-2,3-pentadienedioate enantiomers. The kinetic and thermodynamic data obtained for the interconversion data (rate constants, energy barriers, enthalpies, and entropies) were in good agreement with the published data (Trapp, O., Schurig, V., Chirality 2002, 14, 465-470) using permethylated-beta-CD (Chirasil-beta-Dex).  相似文献

A novel on-flow gas chromatographic (GC) method is developed for the determination of the kinetic rate constants and interconversion energy barrier of thermally labile enantiomers. The validity of the developed method is approved by the study of interconversion of 1-chloro-2,2-dimethylaziridine enantiomers on an achiral column. The overall experiments are performed in a series of three columns placed in two independently heated GC ovens. The racemate of the 1-chloro-2,2-dimethylaziridine is injected and separated in the first chiral column at 60 degrees C in which the interconversion of enantiomers is suppressed. Separated enantiomers are then transferred into the achiral column, where the enantiomers are interconverted at a selected temperature under the current carrier gas flow. Effluent from this column is transferred into the second chiral column, where the native enantiomers and those originated by the on-flow interconversion on an achiral column are again separated at 60 degrees C. Chromatograms obtained by monitoring the effluents from the second chiral column are used to determine the peak areas of the original and the newly interconverted enantiomers. The corresponding peak areas and the interconversion times are used to calculate the interconversion rate constants and energy barriers of the 1-chloro-2,2-dimethylaziridine enantiomers. The apparent energy barriers of the enantiomers of 1-chloro-2,2-dimethylaziridine are equal for both enantiomers within a 95% confidence interval and independent of the polarity of the stationary phase of the column in which the interconversion of enantiomers occur.  相似文献

Low-temperature and NOE NMR spectra of four of the title compounds indicate that they adopt a synclinal (sc) conformation, in agreement with the prediction of ab initio computations. In the case of the most-hindered derivative (compound 4), the conformation is syn-periplanar (sp), as is also shown by X-ray diffraction. Such stereolabile sp- or sc-atropisomers exist as two conformational enantiomers: the corresponding enantiomerization barriers, covering the range 6.6 to 9.7 kcal mol(-1), could be measured for all the examined compounds. In two cases (compounds 3 and 5), the minor antiperiplanar (ap) atropisomer has been also observed, and the sc to ap interconversion barrier measured (11.7 and 11.9 kcal mol(-1), respectively). In addition, restricted rotation of the isopropyl and tert-butyl substituents has been detected, and the corresponding barriers have been determined.  相似文献

The conformational behaviour of the six isomers of thiobispyridine has been investigated using ab initio STO-3G*//rigid-roto, STO-3G*//STO-3G* and 6–31G**//STO-3G* molecular orbital models. The analysis reveals both the importance of optimising critical structure parameters and the basis set dependence of calculated rotational barrier heights. The most reliable model (6–31G**//STO-3G*) clearly indicates that the minimum energy conformers are not planar and that energy barriers between 30–100 kJ mol?1 restrict inter-conversion to planar structures, thereby preventing conjugation between the p-electrons of the sulfur atom and the π system of both pyridine rings. From the calculated barrier heights, two mechanisms can be employed to explain conformer interconversion about the C? S bond: a disrotatory one-ring flip or a conrotatory two-ring flip mechanism. Where comparisons can be made (eg. 2,2′-thiobispyridine), dipole moment calculations are shown to be in good agreement with experiment. Finally, of the six isomers, appropriately substituted 2,2′, 2,3′- and 2,4′-thiobispyridines are most prone to a Smiles rearrangment.  相似文献

By means of low-temperature NMR spectroscopy, conformers (stereolabile atropisomers) due to the restricted rotation about the Ar-Ar and Ar-C(O)R bonds were detected in a number of acylphenyl derivatives, substituted in positions 2 and 6 by the 3-isopropylphenyl moiety (compounds 1-3, R=H, Me, and t-Bu, respectively). The conformational assignment was accomplished on the basis of the symmetry of the low-temperature 13C NMR spectra with the added support of ab initio calculations. The interconversion barriers were also determined by complete line shape simulation of the NMR spectra, and the experimental values were satisfactorily reproduced by ab initio calculations. In the case of the asymmetric derivative 4, two enantiomers, generated by the restricted t-BuC(O)-Ar rotation, were found sufficiently stable to allow their separation by means of the enantioselective HPLC technique at ambient temperature and to obtain the corresponding CD spectra.  相似文献

The activation parameters for the interconversion of atropisomers (P- and M-enantiomer) of core-twisted perylene bisimides have been determined by dynamic NMR spectroscopy (DNMR) and time- and temperature-dependent CD spectroscopy. By comparing the activation parameters of a series of perylene bisimides containing halogen or aryloxy substituents in the bay area (1,6,7,12-positions), a clear structure-property relationship has been found that demonstrates that the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the inversion of enantiomers are dependent on the apparent overlap parameter Sigmar* of the bay substituents. This study reveals a high stability (DeltaG(368 K) = 118 kJ/mol) for the atropo-enantiomers of tetrabromo-substituted perylene bisimide in solution. Accordingly, the enantiomers of this derivative could be resolved by HPLC on a chiral column. These enantiomers do not racemize in solution at room temperature and, thus, represent the first examples of enantiomerically pure core-twisted perylene bisimides.  相似文献

[structure: see text] The stereomutations in nonsymmetrical salophen ligands 1-4 were studied by means of dynamic NMR and HPLC methods. DNMR experiments showed that in DMSO-d(6) hindered ligands 2-4 exist in two chiral conformations, depending on whether the imine carbon atoms are in a cis or trans disposition with respect to the plane of the central o-phenylenediamine ring, the latter being more stable by 1.0 kcal mol(-1). Owing to its higher dipole moment, in the apolar solvent C(6)D(6) the cis conformer is destabilized with respect to the trans one, in agreement with the results of ab initio calculations. In DMSO-d(6) solution the two conformers are in equilibrium through the less hindered rotation about the C6-N7 bond aligned to the a(6,7) axis, and the interconversion barriers range from 18.4 to 19.3 kcal mol(-1). The enantiomerization process is a two step-process that implies sequential rotations around the C6-N7 and the C1-N8 bonds, so that the rate determining step is the slower rotation around the more hindered C1-N8 bond aligned to the a(1,8) axis, and the energy barriers range from 21.4 to 21.9 kcal mol(-1). These values compare well with those determined by chromatography on an enantioselective HPLC column at low temperature, thus confirming that DNMR and DHPLC can be conveniently employed as complementary techniques.  相似文献

An ab initio analytical potential energy surface called BW3 for the ClH2 reactive system is presented. The fit of this surface is based on about 1 200 ab initio energy points, computed with multi-reference configuration interaction(MRCI) and scaling external correlation (SEC) method and a very large basis set. The precision in the fit is very high. The BW3 surface could reproduce correctly the dissociation energy of H2 and HCl, and the endothermicity of the Cl + H2 abstraction reaction. For the Cl + H2 abstraction reaction, the saddle point of BW3 lies in collinear geometries, and the barrier height is 32.84 kJ/mol; for the H + ClH exchange reaction, the barrier of BW3 is also linear, with a height of 77.40 kJ/mol.  相似文献

Enantioselective chromatographic methods, representing the most commonly used techniques for the determination of enantiomeric ratios, can also be used for the evaluation of stereochemical integrity. In the present study, dynamic capillary electrokinetic chromatography (DEKC) was employed to determine the enantiomerization barrier of thalidomide. In the presence of the chiral mobile phase additive carboxymethyl-beta-cyclodextrin, the interconverting enantiomers of thalidomide produced characteristic elution profiles exhibiting plateaus and/or peak broadening between 25 and 55 degrees C at pH 8. To obtain the enantiomerization barrier of thalidomide from experimental data, the fast and efficient simulation program ChromWin was used to simulate the experimental interconversion profiles and to obtain the apparent rate constants k1app(T). Additionally, these values were compared with the novel approximation function for the direct calculation of enantiomerization barriers from chromatographic parameters of elution profiles. From the rate constants k1app(T) of temperature-dependent measurements the kinetic activation parameters deltaG(T)#,deltaH#, and deltaS# of the enantiomerization of thalidomide were obtained. At 25 degrees C, the enantiomerization barrier deltaG# was determined to be 102 +/- 1 kJ/mol at pH 8 in the dynamic electrokinetic chromatographic experiment.  相似文献

Threshold photoelectron photoion coincidence (TPEPICO) has been used to study the sequential photodissociation reaction of internal energy selected 1,2-diiodoethane cations: C(2)H(4)I(2)(+) → C(2)H(4)I(+) + I → C(2)H(3)(+) + I + HI. In the first I-loss reaction, the excess energy is partitioned between the internal energy of the fragment ion C(2)H(4)I(+) and the translational energy. The breakdown diagram of C(2)H(4)I(+) to C(2)H(3)(+), i.e., the fractional ion abundances below and above the second dissociation barrier as a function of the photon energy, yields the internal energy distribution of the first daughter, whereas the time-of-flight peak widths yield the released translational energy in the laboratory frame directly. Both methods indicate that the kinetic energy release in the I-loss step is inconsistent with the phase space theory (PST) predicted two translational degrees of freedom, but is well-described assuming only one translational degree of freedom. Reaction path calculations partly confirm this and show that the reaction coordinate changes character in the dissociation, and it is, thus, highly anisotropic. For comparison, data for the dissociative photoionization of 1,3-diiodopropane are also presented and discussed. Here, the reaction coordinate is expected to be more isotropic, and indeed the two degrees of freedom assumption holds. Characterizing kinetic energy release distributions beyond PST is crucial in deriving accurate dissociative photoionization onset energies in sequential reactions. On the basis of both experimental and theoretical grounds, we also suggest a significant revision of the 298 K heat of formation of 1,2-C(2)H(4)I(2)(g) to 64.5 ± 2.5 kJ mol(-1) and that of CH(2)I(2)(g) to 113.5 ± 2 kJ mol(-1) at 298 K.  相似文献

The [2 + 2] cycloaddition of monosubstituted acetylenes to ketene has been studied by ab initio(G2(MP2,SVP) and DFT (B3LYP/6-31Gd)) methods. The activation barrier decreases with increasing electron-donating ability of the acetylene substituent, and it can be roughly correlated with the energy of the acetylene HOMO. The addition to the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond of ketene (giving cyclobutenones) is preferred for the less electron-rich acetylenes, but for the most electron rich ones (X = NH(2) and NMe(2)) the addition to the C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bond (giving oxetes) becomes competitive, with activation barriers as low as ca. 45 (30) kJ mol(-1) for the two computational methods used. The cyclobutenones and oxetes can undergo ring opening to vinylketenes and acylallenes, respectively. Furthermore, the latter two compounds can interconvert by a 1,3-shift of the substituent X. The acylallenes become thermodynamically more stable than the vinylketenes for [small pi]-(lone pair) donating substituents X, and the 1,3-shift barrier also decreases, to ca. 130 kJ mol(-1) for X = NMe(2). In contrast, the 1,3-shifts of CH(3) and H have very high barriers.  相似文献

Separation methods have become versatile tools for the determination of kinetic activation parameters and energy barriers to interconversion of isomers and enantiomers in the last 20 years. New computer-aided evaluation systems allow the on-line determination of these data after separating minute amount of pure compounds or mixture of isomers or enantiomers, respectively. Both dynamic interconversion during the separation process as well as static stopped-flow techniques have been applied to determine the kinetic activation parameters and interconversion energy barriers by separation methods. The use of (1) combinations of batchwise kinetic studies with enantioselective separations, (2) a continuous flow model, (3) a comparison of real chromatograms with simulated ones, (4) stopped-flow techniques, (5) stochastic methods, (6) approximation functions and (7) deconvolution methods, for the determination of interconversion energy barriers by separation methods is summarized in detail.  相似文献

Stereochemical analysis, supported by ab initio computations, predicts the existence of three possible stable helical conformers for o,o'-diisopropyl-1,1'-diphenylethylene (1) and o,o'-diisopropylbenzophenone (2). At low temperature the NMR spectra of 1 showed distinct sets of signals for these conformers, thus allowing the measurement of the three barriers involved in the related stereomutation processes to be obtained (DeltaG=6.45, 4.65, and < or =4.0 kcal mol(-1)). The NMR spectra also indicate that the asymmetric conformer (C1 point group) is the most stable one in solution, as anticipated by calculations. X-ray diffraction confirmed that this structure is that adopted in the crystalline state. On the other hand, o,o'-diisopropylbenzophenone (2) is predicted by calculations to exist essentially as a C2-type conformer, a result that was confirmed by the low-temperature NMR spectra. The interconversion barrier for the enantiomeric forms of this conformer was also measured (DeltaG=6.3(5) kcal mol(-1)).  相似文献

A comprehensive ab initio study of the adsorption of benzene on the silicon(100) surface is presented. Five potential candidates ([2+2] adduct, [4+2] adduct, two tetra-sigma-bonded structures, and one radical-like structure) for the reaction product are examined to determine the lowest energy adsorption configuration. A [4+2] butterfly structure is determined to be the global minimum (-29.0 kcal/mol), although one of the two tetra-sigma-bonded structures (-26.7 kcal/mol) is similar in energy to it. Multireference perturbation theory suggests that the [4+2] addition mechanism of benzene on Si(100) is very similar to the usual Diels-Alder reaction (i.e., small or zero activation barrier), even though benzene adsorption entails the loss of benzene aromaticity during the reaction. On the other hand, the [2+2] cycloaddition mechanism is shown to require a relatively high activation barrier (17.8 kcal/mol), in which the initial step is to form a (relatively strongly bound) van der Waals complex (-8.9 kcal/mol). However, the net activation barrier relative to reactants is only 8.9 kcal/mol. Careful examination of the interconversion reactions among the reaction products indicates that the two tetra-sigma-bonded structures (that are energetically comparable to the [4+2] product) can be derived from the [2+2] adduct with activation barriers of 15.5 and 21.4 kcal/mol. However, unlike the previous theoretical predictions, it is found that the conversion of the [4+2] product to the tetra-sigma-bonded structures entails huge barriers (>37.0 kcal/mol) and is unlikely to occur. This suggests that the [4+2] product is not only thermodynamically the most stable configuration (lowest energy product) but also kinetically very stable (large barriers with respect to the isomerization to other products).  相似文献

Conformational energy contour maps of the six isomers of oxybispyridine have been constructed using the ab initio STO-3G molecular orbital method. The calculations (employing a partial rigid rotor) for all six isomers indicate that the minimum energy conformers are not planar and that energy barriers between 70–1000 kJ mol?1 restrict interconversion to planar structures, thereby preventing conjugation between the p-electrons of the oxygen atom with the π system of the pyridine rings. It is postulated that of the three mechanisms used to explain conformer interconversion about the C? O bond, the disrotatory one-ring flip mechanism is the most appropriate, since the “Morino's” structures are all within 2.5 kJ mol?1 of the minimum. Furthermore, room temperature accessibility of the “Morino's” structures suggests that the Smiles rearrangement would be possible for suitably substituted derivatives of these isomers.  相似文献
