Natural circulation of distilled water and FC43 has been experimentally investigated in a rectangular loop characterized by internal diameter of 30 mm and total length of 4.1 m. The aim of the present study is to analyse the influence of thermal boundary conditions on the flow regimes inside the pipes and on the stability of the system. The new aspect of the present research is the possibility of tuning the heat sink temperature in a range between −20 °C and +30 °C by means of a cryostat. This kind of analysis could be useful for the design of systems characterized by a wide range of environment temperatures, as for example for aerospatial applications. The other parameters investigated were the heat flux transferred to the fluid, which varied between 0.1 kW and 2.5 kW, and the thermo-physical properties of the working fluid. The system showed both stable and unstable behaviour. In particular, in the case of FC43 the loop was more unstable and it was characterized by higher velocities and frequencies compared to the case of distilled water. It was found that the stability threshold could be crossed by varying only the heat sink temperature, demonstrating the importance of this boundary condition on the dynamics of the system. Different flow regimes and fluid velocities were observed. In the case of steady-state flow, Vijayan’s correlation (Vijayan et al., 2000) was tested and found to give good agreement with experimental data. Linear stability analysis was made following the Vijayan’s model. In particular, the effect of heat sink temperature was considered in the dimensionless Stanton number based on the overall heat transfer coefficient at the heat sink. Finally, Ultrasound Pulsed Doppler Velocimeter (UPDV) was used on a natural circulation loop for the first time, and gave a preliminary validation of the traditional fluid velocity measurement method based on the frequency analysis.  相似文献

A physical and mathematical model has been developed to predict the two-phase flow and heat transfer in a microchannel with evaporative heat transfer. Sample solutions to the model were obtained for both constant wall temperature and constant wall heat flux conditions. Results are provided for evaporation rate, liquid film thickness, liquid and vapor phase pressure and temperature distributions. In addition to the sample calculations that were used to illustrate the transport characteristics, computations based on the current model were performed to generate results for comparisons with the experimental results of Qu and Mudawar (2004) where two different mass flow rates of the working fluid were used in the experiment. The comparisons of total pressure drops with the experimental data of Qu and Mudawar (2004) cover the wall heat flux range of 142.71-240 W/cm2 with a total channel mass flux of 400.1 kg/m2 s and also the wall heat flu range of 99.54-204.39 W/cm2 with total channel mass flux of 401.9 kg/m2 s. The calculated results from the current model match closely with those of Qu and Mudawar (2004).  相似文献

This article is the second part of a study on flow boiling of R236fa and R245fa. This part presents the heat transfer coefficients obtained in a 12.7 mm silicon evaporator composed of 135 microchannels with 85 μm wide and 560 μm high channels separated by 46 μm wide fins. There were 35 local heaters and temperature measurements arranged in a 5 × 7 array. The heat transfer results were uniform in the lateral direction to the flow (attributable to the inlet restriction) and a function of the heat flux, vapor quality and mass flux. The steady-state standard deviation of the local base temperature was less than 0.2 °C, inferring that the boiling process was very stable. For wall heat fluxes over 45 kW/m2, the heat transfer coefficient curves were V-shaped, decreasing for intermittent flow regimes and increasing for annular flow. The three-zone model of Thome et al. (2004) was the best heat transfer prediction method when setting the dryout thickness equal to the channel roughness.  相似文献

An experimental study of evaporation heat transfer coefficients for single circular small tubes was conducted for the flow of C3H8, NH3, and CO2 under various flow conditions. The test matrix encompasses the entire quality range from 0.0 to 1.0, mass fluxes from 50 to 600 kg m−2 s−1, heat fluxes from 5 to 70 kW m−2, and saturation temperatures from 0 to 10 °C. The test section was made of circular stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm, and a length of 2000 mm in a horizontal orientation. The test section was uniformly heated by applying electric power directly to the tubes. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, saturation temperature, and inner tube diameter on the heat transfer coefficient are reported. Among the working refrigerants considered in this study, CO2 has the highest heat transfer coefficient. Laminar flow was observed in the evaporative small tubes, and was considered in the modification of boiling heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop correlations.  相似文献

Convective heat transfer in laminar conditions is studied numerically for a Prandtl number Pr = 0.025, representative of liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE). The geometry investigated is a channel with a periodic series of shallow cavities. Finite-volume simulations are carried out on structured orthogonal curvilinear grids, for ten values of the Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter between Rem = 24.9 and Rem = 2260. Flow separation and reattachment are observed also at very low Reynolds numbers and wall friction is found to be remarkably unequal at the two walls. In almost all cases investigated, heat transfer rates are smaller than the corresponding flat channel values. Low-Prandtl number heat transfer rates, investigated by comparison with Pr = 0.71 results, are large only for uniform wall temperature and very low Re. Influence of flow separation on local heat transfer rates is discussed, together with the effect of different thermal boundary conditions. Dependency of heat transfer performance on the cavity geometry is also considered.  相似文献

The flow and heat transfer in cylindrical and conical annular flow-passages with through flow and inner-wall rotation have been numerically simulated by using the large eddy simulation with a Lagrangian dynamic subgrid-scale model. Inlet through-flow Reynolds number was 1000 and the Taylor number was set at 0, 1000, 2000, and 4000. In the conical flow passage, when the inner-wall rotation speed was increased, at first spiral vortices in the downstream region and then much more complicated vortices appeared. The vortices for Ta = 4000 changed the structure in both through-flow and wall-normal directions in the downstream half of the passage. The flow structure and heat transfer of the conical case were completely different from those of the cylindrical case. It was because of the three factors: the expansion of the flow passage, the rotation radius change in the through-flow direction, and the centrifugally driven through-flow. The last factor is due to the acute angle between the centrifugal and through-flow directions.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of turbulent heat transfer in vertical upward and downward supercritical CO2 flow was conducted in a circular tube with an inner diameter of 4.5 mm. The experiments were performed for bulk fluid temperatures from 29 to 115 °C, pressures from 74.6 to 102.6 bar, local wall heat fluxes from 38 to 234 kW/m2, and mass fluxes from 208 to 874 kg/m2 s. At a moderate wall heat flux and low mass flux, the wall temperature had a noticeable peak value for vertical upward flow, but increased monotonically along the flow direction without a peak value for downward flow. The ratios of the experimental Nusselt number to the value obtained from a reference correlation were compared with Bo* and q+ distributions to observe the buoyancy and flow-acceleration effects on heat transfer. In the experimental range of this study, the flow acceleration predominantly affected the heat-transfer phenomena. Based on an analysis of the shear-stress distribution in the turbulent boundary layer and the significant variation of the specific heat across the turbulent boundary layer, a new heat-transfer correlation for vertical upward and downward flow of supercritical pressurized fluid was developed; this correlation agreed with various experimental datasets within ±30%.  相似文献

Seed bubbles are generated on microheaters located at the microchannel upstream and driven by a pulse voltage signal, to improve flow and heat transfer performance in microchannels. The present study investigates how seed bubbles stabilize flow and heat transfer in micro-boiling systems. For the forced convection flow, when heat flux at the wall surface is continuously increased, flow instability is self-sustained in microchannels with large oscillation amplitudes and long periods. Introduction of seed bubbles in time sequence improves flow and heat transfer performance significantly. Low frequency (∼10 Hz) seed bubbles not only decrease oscillation amplitudes of pressure drops, fluid inlet and outlet temperatures and heating surface temperatures, but also shorten oscillation cycle periods. High frequency (∼100 Hz or high) seed bubbles completely suppress the flow instability and the heat transfer system displays stable parameters of pressure drops, fluid inlet and outlet temperatures and heating surface temperatures. Flow visualizations show that a quasi-stable boundary interface from spheric bubble to elongated bubble is maintained in a very narrow distance range at any time. The seed bubble technique almost does not increase the pressure drop across microsystems, which is thoroughly different from those reported in the literature. The higher the seed bubble frequency, the more decreased heating surface temperatures are. A saturation seed bubble frequency of 1000–2000 Hz can be reached, at which heat transfer enhancement attains the maximum degree, inferring a complete thermal equilibrium of vapor and liquid phases in microchannels. Benefits of the seed bubble technique are the stabilization of flow and heat transfer, decreasing heating surface temperatures and improving temperature uniformity of the heating surface.  相似文献

Coupled laminar natural convection with radiation in air-filled square enclosure heated from below and cooled from above is studied numerically for a wide variety of radiative boundary conditions at the sidewalls. A numerical model based on the finite difference method was used for the solution of mass, momentum and energy equations. The surface-to-surface method was used to calculate the radiative heat transfer. Simulations were performed for two values of the emissivities of the active and insulated walls (ɛ1=0.05 or 0.85, ɛ2=0.05 or 0.85) and Rayleigh numbers ranging from 103 to 2.3×106 . The influence of those parameters on the flow and temperature patterns and heat transfer rates are analyzed and discussed for different steady-state solutions. The existing ranges of these solutions are reported for the four different cases considered. It is founded that, for a fixed Ra, the global heat transfer across the enclosure depends only on the magnitude of the emissivity of the active walls. The oscillatory behavior, characterizing the unsteady-state solutions during the transitions from bicellular flows to the unicellular flow are observed and discussed.  相似文献

A detailed experimental investigation is carried out to study the flow boiling heat transfer behavior of R-134a/R-290/R-600a (91%/4.068%/4.932% by mass) refrigerant mixture in smooth horizontal tubes of diameter 9.52 and 12.7 mm. The heat transfer coefficients of the mixture are experimentally measured under varied heat flux conditions for stratified flow patterns using a coaxial counter-current heat exchanger test section. The tests are conducted for refrigerant inlet temperatures between ?9 and 5 °C and mass flow rates ranging from 3 to 5 g s?1. Kattan–Thome–Favrat maps are used to confirm the flow patterns for the tested conditions. The magnitude of the heat transfer coefficient with respect to flow patterns and different mechanisms of boiling are discussed. The heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant mixture is also compared with that of R-134a for selected working conditions. The significance of nucleate boiling in the overall heat transfer process under these testing conditions is highlighted.  相似文献

In the present study, the heat transfer characteristics in dry surface conditions of a new type of heat exchanger, namely a helically coiled finned tube heat exchanger, is experimentally investigated. The test section, which is a helically coiled fined tube heat exchanger, consists of a shell and a helical coil unit. The helical coil unit consists of four concentric helically coiled tubes of different diameters. Each tube is constructed by bending straight copper tube into a helical coil. Aluminium crimped spiral fins with thickness of 0.5 mm and outer diameter of 28.25 mm are placed around the tube. The edge of fin at the inner diameter is corrugated. Ambient air is used as a working fluid in the shell side while hot water is used for the tube-side. The test runs are done at air mass flow rates ranging between 0.04 and 0.13 kg/s. The water mass flow rates are between 0.2 and 0.4 kg/s. The water temperatures are between 40 and 50°C. The effects of the inlet conditions of both working fluids flowing through the heat exchanger on the heat transfer coefficients are discussed. The air-side heat transfer coefficient presented in term of the Colburn J factor is proportional to inlet-water temperature and water mass flow rate. The heat exchanger effectiveness tends to increase with increasing water mass flow rate and also slightly increases with increasing inlet water temperature.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to analyze flow boiling characteristics of water in a single brass microchannel of 25 mm length, 201 μm width, and 266 μm depth. Different heat flux conditions were tested for each of two different mass flow rates over three different values of inlet fluid temperature. Temporal and spatial surface temperature profiles were analyzed to show the relative effect of axial heat conduction on temperature rise along the channel length and the effect of flow regime transition on local surface temperature oscillation. Vapor bubble growth rate increased with increasing wall superheat. The slower a bubble grew, the further it was carried downstream by the moving liquid. Bubble growth was suppressed for increased mass flux while the vapor bubble was less than the channel diameter. The pressure spike of an elongating vapor bubble was shown to suppress the growth of a neighboring bubble by more than 50% of its volume. An upstream progression of the Onset of Bubble Elongation (OBE) was observed that began at the channel exit and progressed upstream. The effects of conjugate heat transfer were observed when different flow regime transitions produced different rates of progression for the elongation sequence. Instability was observed at lower heat fluxes for this single channel experiment than for similar studies with multiple channels.  相似文献

The reduction characteristic of turbulent drag and heat transfer of drag reduction surfactant solution flowing in a helically coiled pipe were experimentally investigated. The drag reduction surfactant used in the present study was the amine oxide type nonionic surfactant of oleyldihydroxyethylamineoxide (ODEAO, C22H45NO3=371). The zwitterion surfactant of cetyldimethylaminoaciticacidbetaine (CDMB, C20H41NO2=327) was added by 10% to the ODEAO solution in order to avoid the chemical degradation of ODEAO by ionic impurities in a test tape water. The experiments of flow drag and heat transfer reduction were carried out in the helically coiled pipe of coil to pipe diameter ratio of 37.5 and the helically coiled pipe length to pipe diameter of 1180.5 (pipe diameter of 14.4 mm) at various concentrations, temperatures and flow velocities of the ODEAO surfactant solution. The ODEAO solution showed a non-Newtonian behavior at high concentration of the ODEAO. From the experimental results, it was observed that the friction factor of the ODEAO surfactant solution flowing through the coiled pipe was decreased to a great extent in comparison with water as a Newtonian fluid in the turbulent flow region. Heat transfer measurements for water and the ODEAO solution were performed in both laminar and turbulent flow regions under the uniform heat flux boundary condition. The heat transfer coefficients for the ODEAO solution flow were the same as water flow in the laminar region. On the other hand, heat transfer reduction of the ODEAO solution flow was remarkedly reduced as compared with that of the water flow in the turbulent flow region.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the development of mixed convection flow near the stagnation point region over an exponentially stretching/shrinking sheet in nanofluids. The external flow, stretching velocity and wall temperature are assumed to vary as prescribed exponential functions. Using the local similarity method, it has been shown that dual solutions of velocity and temperature exist for certain values of suction/injection, mixed convection, nanoparticle volume fraction and stretching/shrinking parameters. The transformed non-linear ordinary differential equations along with the boundary conditions form a two point boundary value problem and are solved using Shooting method, by converting into an initial value problem. In this method, the system of equations is converted into a set of first order system which is solved by fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Three different types of nanoparticles, namely copper (Cu), aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and titanium oxide (TiO2) are considered by using water-based fluid with Prandtl number Pr = 6.2. It is also found that the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface are highest for Copper–water nanofluids as compared to Al2O3. The effect of the solid volume fraction parameter φ of the nanofluids on the heat transfer characteristics is also investigated. The results indicate that dual solutions exist only for shrinking sheet. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles are also presented here.  相似文献

Understanding the spray/wall interaction of urea water solution in automotive selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx is crucial for robust system performance. The spray impingement of aqueous urea solution on walls at temperatures from 120 to 420 C is investigated experimentally by using high-speed and infrared thermographic recordings. To evaluate wall wetting and spatially resolved heat transfer, the evaporated mass fraction during spray/wall interaction is described quantitatively through an energy balance. Heat transfer at different wall temperatures shows typical non-linear characteristics analogous to those known from pool boiling experiments (Nukiyama boiling curve). The performed extensive parameter study on the influence of injected fluid, injection duration, injection pressure, wall thickness and wall material reveal significant shifts of the boiling regime boundaries and the related characteristic temperatures, e.g. temperature of critical heat flux and Leidenfrost temperature. These basic findings help to understand spray/wall interaction phenomena and give hints for improvement of automotive SCR system design by taking into account the change of the injection system parameters and the choice of advantageous wall material properties.  相似文献

The extended theory of the steady state laminar film condensation process of pure saturated vapour at atmospheric pressure on an isothermal vertical flat plate is established. Its equations provide a complete account of the physical process for consideration of various physical factors including variable thermophysical properties, except for surface tension at the liquid-vapour film interface. First, similarity considerations are proposed to transform the governing system of partial differential equations and its boundary conditions into the corresponding dimensionless system. Then, the dimensionless new system is computed numerically in two steps: First neglecting shear force at the interface, so that the initial values of the boundary conditionsW xl, s andW yl, s are obtained. Then, the calculations of a problem of the three-point boundary-value for coupling the equations of liquid film with those of vapour film are carried out. Furthermore, the correlations for heat transfer coefficient and mass flow rate are proposed by analysis of heat and mass transfer and it is found that the heat transfer coefficient is function of dimensionless temperature gradient $\dot L$ , and that the condensate mass flow rate is function of the mass flow rate parameter (η W xl, s ? 4W yl, s )of liquid. In addition, the corresponding heat and mass transfer correlations expressed by subcooled temperature Δt are developed. According to Nusselt's theory four different assumptions are set up for an investigation of the effects of the film condensation of saturated vapour, so that the validity of Nusselt's theory can be further clarified. Quantitative comparisons from the results of the heat transfer coefficient and mass flow rate of the condensate indicate that the effect of variable thermophysical properties on the heat and mass transfer is appreciable. The effect of thermal convection in the condensate film is obviously larger than those of shear force at liquid-vapour interface, and the effect of the inertia in the condensate film is very small. Finally, it is also shown that Nusselt's theory, in using Drew reference temperature, will decrease the heat transfer coefficient by at most 5.11%, and will increase the mass flow rate of the condensate by at most 2.45%, provided that the effect of the surface tension is not taken into account.  相似文献

Saturated flow boiling of environmentally acceptable nonionic surfactant solutions of Alkyl (8–16) was compared to that of pure water. The concentration of surfactant solutions was in the range of 100–1000 ppm. The liquid flowed in an annular gap of 2.5 and 4.4 mm between two vertical tubes. The heat was transferred from the inner heated tube to two-phase flow in the range of mass flux from 5 to 18 kg/m2 s and heat flux from 40 to 200 kW/m2. Boiling curves of water were found to be heat flux and channel gap size dependent but essentially mass flux independent. An addition of surfactant to the water produced a large number of bubbles of small diameter, which, at high heat fluxes, tend to cover the entire heater surface with a vapor blanket. It was found that the heat transfer increased at low values of relative surfactant concentration C/C0, reaches a maximum close to the value of C/C0 = 1 (where C0 = 300 ppm is the critical micelle concentration) and decreased with further increase in the amount of additive. The dependence of the maximal values of the relative heat transfer enhancement, obtained at the value of relative concentration of C/C0 = 1, on the boiling number Bo may be presented as single curve for both gap sizes and the whole range of considered concentrations.  相似文献

Increasing attention has been focused on carbon dioxide (CO2) heat pump system where the temperature level is rather low, while the operating pressure is rather high. In this system, the density difference between vapor and liquid becomes rather small, which significantly affects flow patterns. Low surface tension and latent heat also have significant influence on two-phase flow patterns and heat transfer. This paper describes experimental and numerical investigation on flow patterns and heat transfer characteristics of boiling flow CO2 at high pressure in horizontal small-bore tubes ranging from 1.0 mm to 3.0 mm I.D. Even though the density difference is rather small at high pressure, phase stratification takes place, which leads to the intermittent dryout at the upper wall. So far developed discrete bubble model by the authors for vertical flows is modified so as to include horizontal flow mechanisms. The predicted flow patterns with this new model agree on the whole with the experimental observation.  相似文献

This work is focused on the numerical modeling of steady laminar mixed convection flow in a lid-driven inclined square enclosure filled with water–Al2O3 nanofluid. The left and right walls of the enclosure are kept insulated while the bottom and top walls are maintained at constant temperatures with the top surface being the hot wall and moving at a constant speed. The developed equations are given in terms of the stream function–vorticity formulation and are non-dimensionalized and then solved numerically subject to appropriate boundary conditions by a second-order accurate finite-volume method. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and found to be in good agreement. A parametric study is conducted and a set of graphical results is presented and discussed to illustrate the effects of the presence of nanoparticles and enclosure inclination angle on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. It is found that significant heat transfer enhancement can be obtained due to the presence of nanoparticles and that this is accentuated by inclination of the enclosure at moderate and large Richardson numbers.  相似文献

The flow boiling heat transfer coefficients of R-134a/R-290/R-600a (91%:4.068%:4.932% by mass) refrigerant mixture are experimentally arrived in two tubes of diameter 9.52 and 12.7 mm. The tests are conducted to target the varied heat flux condition and stratified flow pattern found in evaporators of refrigerators and deep freezers. The varied heat flux condition is imposed on the refrigerant using a coaxial counter-current heat exchanger test section. The experiments are performed for mass flow rates of the refrigerant mixture between 3 and 5 g s−1 and entry temperature between −8.59 and 5.33°C which are bubble temperatures corresponding to a pressure of 3.2 and 5 bar. The influences of heat flux, mass flow rate, pressure, flow pattern, tube diameter on the heat transfer coefficient are discussed. The profound effects of nucleate boiling prevailing even at higher vapor qualities in evaporators are highlighted. The heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant mixture is also compared with that of R-134a.  相似文献
