Yttrium formate dihydrate, Y(HCOO)3·2H2O (point group 222), a promising new material for Raman laser frequency converters, has been reinvestigated with respect to the linear and nonlinear optical (second-harmonic generation, SHG) properties. High-precision data of refractive indices and their dispersion in the wavelength range 365–1083 nm are given, together with the three independent components of the tensor of nonlinear optical susceptibility (SHG) [dijk SHG]. A calculation of the macroscopic nonlinear optical susceptibility from the hyperpolarizabilities of the formate groups results in good agreement with the experimental values. This signals that the nonlinear optical interaction in Y(HCOO)3·2H2O can mainly be attributed to the formate groups. PACS 42.65.Ky; 42.70.Mp; 78.20.Ci  相似文献

β-carotene with double fluorescence characteristics and large third-order optical nonlinearities, which is dissolved in the carbon disulfide (CS2) as the core medium of a liquid core optical fiber (LCOF), is applied in the study of the CS2 stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). The results of this study show that when the concentrations of solution are more than 3.72×10−7 mol/L, the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) of β-carotene is the main factor influencing the threshold and intensity of Stokes lines; when the concentrations of solution are lower than 3.72×10−7 mol/L, the ASE disappears and the fluorescence plays the key role: The high-order Stokes lines may be observed at very low input-laser power, and the Stokes thresholds decrease as the solution concentration increases. The result may be widely used in the study of broadband stimulated radiation laser and seeding laser. Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 10774057)  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a highly nonlinear dispersion flattened hexagonal photonic crystal fiber (HNDF-HPCF) with nonlinear coefficients as large as 57.5W−1 km−1 at 1.31 μm wavelength for dental optical coherence tomography (OCT) applications. This HNDF-HPCF offers not only large nonlinear coefficient but also very flat dispersion slope and very low confinement losses. Using these characteristics of our proposed PCF, it is shown through simulations by using finite difference method with an anisotropic perfectly matched boundary layer that this PCF offers the efficient supercontinuum (SC) generation for dental OCT applications at 1.31 μm wavelength using a picosecond pulse easily produced by commercially available less expensive laser sources. Coherent length of light source using SC is found 10 μm and the spatial resolutions in the depth direction for dental applications of OCT are found about 6.1 μm for enamel and 6.5 μm for dentin.  相似文献

The time-resolved dynamics of plasma self-channeling and refractive index bulk modification in silica glasses were first observed in situ using a high-intensity femtosecond (110 fs) Ti:sapphire laser (λp=790 nm). Plasma channeling is induced in silica glass at an irradiation higher than an input intensity of 1.5×1012 W/cm2 and photoinduces either the refractive-index modification or optical crack modification. In the domain of refractive-index modification, the lifetime of induced plasma self-channeling was 20 ps and the structural transition time for forming the refractive-index change was 10 ps. In the domain of optical cracks, however, the lifetime of induced plasma formation was 30 ps and the structural transition time for forming the optical cracks was 40 ps. According to electron spin resonance spectroscopic (ESP) measurement, it was found that the defect concentration of the SiE center increased significantly in the refractive index modification region. A maximum value of the refractive-index change Δn was measured to be 1.6×10-2. The intensity profile of the output beam transmitted through the refractive-index modification showed that the bulk modification produced a permanent optical waveguide. An optical clock based on an Er3+ fiber femtosecond laser and a two-mode He–Ne/CH4 optical frequency standard (λ=3.39 μm) is realized. Difference-frequency generation is used to down convert the 1.5-μm frequency comb of the Er3+ femtosecond laser to the 3.4-μm range. The generated infrared comb overlaps with the He–Ne/CH4 laser wavelength and does not depend on the carrier–envelope offset frequency of the 1.5-μm comb. In this way a direct phase-coherent connection between the optical frequency of the He–Ne/CH4 standard and the radio frequency pulse repetition rate of the fiber laser is established. The stability of the optical clock is measured against a commercial hydrogen maser. The measured relative instability is 1×10−12 at 1 s and for averaging times less than 50 s it is determined by the microwave standard, while for longer times a drift of the He–Ne/CH4 optical standard is dominant.  相似文献

With a fiber coupled laser diode array as the pump source, Nd-doped Lu2SiO5 (Nd:LSO) crystal lasers at 4F3/24I11/2 and 4F3/24I13/2 transitions were demonstrated. The active Q-switched dual-wavelength lasers at about 1.08 μm, as well as continuous-wave (CW) and active Q-switched lasers at 1357 nm are reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. Considering the small emission cross-sections and long fluorescence lifetime, this material possesses large energy storage ability and excellent Q-switched properties. The special emission wavelength at 1357 nm will have promising applications to be used in many fields, such as THz generation, pumping of Cr3+:LiSAF, repumping of strontium optical clock, laser Doppler velocimeter and distributed fiber sensor.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the design of a highly nonlinear dispersion flattened high-index-core square photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for applications in optical coherence tomography (OCT). The finite-difference method with an anisotropic perfectly matched boundary layer is used as a numerical simulation tool. A set of optimized design parameters numerically resulted in a nonlinear coefficient of 79.9W−1 km−1 and a dispersion of −0:186 ps/(nm·km) at a wavelength of approximately 1.06 μm. Owing to its high nonlinear coefficient and flattened dispersion, the PCF is expected to be suitable for broadband supercontinuum generation, which is considered very important in OCT medical applications.  相似文献

A permanent structure of a single-mode waveguide in optical multimode fluoride fibers was first fabricated using a self-channeled plasma filament excited by a femtosecond (110-fs) Ti:sapphire laser (p=800 nm). The photoinduced refractive-index modification in a multimode step-index fluoride glass (ZBLAN) fiber with a 100/110-m core/cladding diameter reached a length of approximately 12–15 mm from the input surface of the optical fiber, with the diameters ranging from 5 to 8 m at input intensities more than 1.0×1012 W/cm2. The graded refractive-index profiles were fabricated to have a symmetric form from the center of a multimode fluoride fiber and a maximum value of the refractive-index change (n) was measured to be 1.3×10-2. The beam profile of the output beam transmitted through the modified multimode fibers showed that the photoinduced refractive-index modification produced a permanent structure of a single-mode waveguide. This paper presents a highly nonlinear octagonal photonic crystal fiber (HN-OPCF) with a Ge-doped core for dental optical coherence tomography (OCT) applications. The simulation results show that a nonlinear coefficient of 56.3W−1 km−1 and the flattened dispersion of less than −1:0 ps/(nm·km) are obtained in 75 nm waveband (1265–1340 nm). Owing to its high nonlinear coefficient and flattened dispersion, the HN-OPCF is expected to be suitable for supercontinuum generation, which is very important in OCT applications. The numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed HN-OPCF can generate wideband supercontinuum.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a multi-wave length Brillouin-Raman fiber laser configured in a ring-cavity resonator. Interactions between stimulated Brillouin scattering and Raman amplification in a dispersion compensating fiber, attributed to the generation of 16 output channels at injected Raman pump unit power of 650 mW and Brillouin pump power of 2.0 mW. The first output channel has a peak power of 14.8 mW. By discriminating the even-order Brillouin Stokes signals from circulating in the resonator, the generated output channels were found to have wavelength spacing of ∼22 GHz. The output channels were also found to have average optical signal-to-noise ratio value of 11.7 dB.  相似文献

The use of Raman and anti-stokes Raman spectroscopy to investigate the effect of exposure to high power laser radiation on the crystalline phases of TiO2 has been investigated. Measurement of the changes, over several time integrals, in the Raman and anti-stokes Raman of TiO2 spectra with exposure to laser radiation is reported. Raman and anti-stokes Raman provide detail on both the structure and the kinetic process of changes in crystalline phases in the titania material. The effect of laser exposure resulted in the generation of increasing amounts of the rutile crystalline phase from the anatase crystalline phase during exposure. The Raman spectra displayed bands at 144 cm−1 (A1g), 197 cm−1 (Eg), 398 cm−1 (B1g), 515 cm−1 (A1g), and 640 cm−1 (Eg) assigned to anatase which were replaced by bands at 143 cm−1 (B1g), 235 cm−1 (2 phonon process), 448 cm−1 (Eg) and 612 cm−1 (A1g) which were assigned to rutile. This indicated that laser irradiation of TiO2 changes the crystalline phase from anatase to rutile. Raman and anti-stokes Raman are highly sensitive to the crystalline forms of TiO2 and allow characterisation of the effect of laser irradiation upon TiO2. This technique would also be applicable as an in situ method for monitoring changes during the laser irradiation process.  相似文献

Highly epitaxial Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 (BST) ferroelectric thin films were fabricated on (001) MgOsubstrates by pulsed laser deposition. The nonlinear optical absorption coefficients (β) and refraction indices (γ) of the BST thin films on (001) MgO substrates were investigated using the single beam Z-scan technique with femtosecond laser pulses at the wavelengths of 790 nm and 395 nm, respectively, at room temperature. The nonlinear absorption coefficients of BST thin films were measured to be ∼0.087 cm/GW and ∼0.77 cm/GW at 790 nm and 395 nm, respectively. The nonlinear refraction indices of BST thin films exhibit a strong dispersion from a positive value of 6.1×10-5 cm2/GW at 790 nm to a negative value of -4.0×10-5 cm2/GW at 395 nm near band gap. The dispersion of γ is roughly consistent with Sheik-Bahae’s theory for the bound electronic nonlinear refraction resulting from the two-photon resonance. These results show that the BST film is a promising material as a candidate for nonlinear optical applications. PACS 42.70.Mp; 78.20.-e; 81.05.-t  相似文献

Passive optical waveform generation is obtained in fiber lasers using a 1.3-μm semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as the gain medium. Various waveforms, including square wave, staircase wave, triangular wave, pulse, and dark pulse are generated in SOA-based fiber lasers by adjusting intracavity polarization controllers. The passive waveform generation might be attributed to the SOA gain dynamics and the enhanced nonlinear interaction at the 1.3-μm zero dispersion wavelength of traditional single-mode fiber (SMF), as well as the interference effect between the two sub-cavities of fiber laser. With figure-8 cavity configuration, 1250th-order harmonic pulses have been successfully demonstrated. We have also obtained a free-running SOA-based fiber laser with 3-dB spectral width of 16 nm, and the center wavelength can be tuned over 45 nm range.  相似文献

Abstract

A tunable multi-wavelength L-band Brillouin–Raman fiber laser with a 20-GHz channel spacing utilizing bidirectional ring cavity is proposed and experimentally investigated. The laser employs a co-pumped dispersion compensating fiber as a gain medium for both Brillouin and Raman gains. With a Raman pump of 425 mW, the laser system can generate up to 12 double-spaced Brillouin Stokes signals. This simple laser configuration provides stable Brillouin Stokes signals in the absence of self-lasing cavity modes with a tuning range exceeding 35 nm without using any filtering mechanism. The Stokes signals have more than 20 dB of optical signal-to-noise ratio.  相似文献

We describe the effect of temperature variations on supercontinuum (SC) generation in optical fibers using a continuous-wave (CW) Raman fiber laser as a pump. We achieve supercontinuum generation by pumping only ∼2 W of power into a 7 km-long nonzero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZDSF) in the region of small anomalous dispersion. In these conditions, the supercontinuum builds up basically on modulational instability and Raman. At room temperature, the supercontinuum covers effectively the S, C and L transmission bands defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Temperature tuning of the fiber environment provides a means of tuning the fiber dispersion, and thus a means of changing the width and shape of the supercontinuum spectrum. We demonstrate a 27% increase in the 10-dB SC width. We believe that the application of this new tuning mechanism to other experimental configurations using pulsed sources might be used to produce extremely broad supercontinuums.  相似文献

We have explored the performance of two “dark fibers” of a commercial telecommunication fiber link for a remote comparison of optical clocks. The two fibers, linking the Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH) with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, are connected in Hanover to form a total fiber length of 146 km. At PTB the performance of an optical frequency standard operating at 456 THz was imprinted to a cw transfer laser at 194 THz, and its frequency was transmitted over the fiber. In order to detect and compensate phase noise related to the optical fiber link we have built a low-noise optical fiber interferometer and investigated noise sources that affect the overall performance of the optical link. The frequency stability at the remote end has been measured using the clock laser of PTB’s Yb+ frequency standard operating at 344 THz. We show that the frequency of a frequency-stabilized fiber laser can be transmitted over a total fiber length of 146 km with a relative frequency uncertainty below 1×10−19, and short term frequency instability given by the fractional Allan deviation of σ y (τ)=3.3×10−15/(τ/s).  相似文献

Bi3TiNbO9 (BTN) thin films with layered perovskite structure were fabricated on fused silica by pulsed laser deposition. The XRD pattern revealed that the films are single-phase perovskite and highly (00l) textured. Their fundamental optical constants, such as band gap, linear refractive index, and linear absorption coefficient, were obtained by optical transmittance measurements. The dispersion relation of the refractive index vs. wavelength follows the single electronic oscillator model. The nonlinear optical absorption of the films was investigated by single beam Z-scan method at a wavelength of 800 nm with laser duration of 80 fs. We obtained the nonlinear absorption coefficient β=1.44×10−7 m/W. The results show that the BTN thin films are promising for applications in absorbing-type optical devices.  相似文献

We report a linearly polarized Tm doped fiber laser. The fiber laser was set up by using a piece of polarization maintaining Tm doped double clad fiber of 5 m length as gain medium and a polarization beam splitter as a polarization selector. The fiber laser was pumped by a fiber pigtailed laser diode working at 790 nm with a maximum output power of 90 W. The linearly polarized Tm laser operated at wavelength around 2030 nm. A maximum output power up to 21.9 W was achieved when the pump power was 63.27 W with a threshold of 11.92 W, a slope efficiency of about 43.7%, and a polarization extinction ratio of 92.7% (11.37 dB). In addition to the blue fluorescence, we also observed the violet fluorescence under high pump power level. The up-conversion fluorescence was considered to be attributed to the 1 G 43 H 6, and 1 D 23 F 4 transitions of Tm ions, respectively.  相似文献

An all-optical widely tunable Raman fiber laser has been realized by incorporating a highly nonlinear fiber in a ring cavity. By feedback a portion of Raman Stokes wave back into the highly nonlinear gain medium, a Raman fiber laser is generated. We found that the lasing wavelength of Raman fiber laser can be tuned from 1537 to 1568 nm with peak power fluctuation within 1 dB, giving a total wavelength tunability of 31 nm. The optical signal-to-noise ratio is found to be wavelength dependent, and the highest optical signal-to-noise ratio of about 59 dB is recorded. The lasing threshold of the Raman fiber laser with this configuration is found to be as low as 300 mW.  相似文献

A scheme for the construction of fiber laser systems for the generation of tunable ultrashort optical pulses is proposed. The scheme is based on the self-Raman shift of the soliton frequency in dispersion-decreasing fibers with the subsequent spectral broadening owing to the supercontinuum generation in a short highly nonlinear fiber and the compression in the corresponding fiber compressor. An all-fiber laser system for the generation of ultrashort laser pulses in the wavelength range 1.6–2.0 μm is experimentally demonstrated. In particular, the shortest pulses with a duration of 24 fs are generated at wavelengths of 1.8–1.9 μm, which corresponds to less than four optical cycles.  相似文献
