The present study details the experimental and theoretical characterization of the photophysical properties of 14 examples of 2‐(phenylamino)‐1,10‐phenanthrolines ( 1 ). The absorption spectra of 1 are substituent‐dependent but in a general manner present absorption bands at wavelengths of ~230; ~300; ~335 and a shoulder at ~380 nm. Electron‐donating groups (EDG) and electron‐withdrawing groups (EWG), respectively, result in bathochromic and hypsochromic shifts. Compounds 1 are highly luminescent, in contrast to phenanthroline, and emit in the region between 350 and 500 nm with substituent‐dependent λmax emission. The emission spectra show a redshift for EDG (4‐OMe 62 nm; 4‐Me 19 nm) and a blueshift for EWG (4‐CN 41 nm; 4‐CF3 38 nm) relative to the emission of the unsubstituted parent compound 1a . Plotting the against Hammett σ+ constants gave an excellent linear correlation demonstrating the electron‐deficient nature of the excited state and how the substituents (de)stabilize S1. Theoretical calculations revealed a HOMO‐LUMO π‐π* electronic transition to S1 which in combination with difference (S1–S0) in electron density maps revealed charge‐transfer character. Strongly electron‐withdrawing substituents switch off the charge transfer to give rise to a local excitation. 相似文献

7‐(o‐Substituted phenyl)‐2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐benzoquinone methides which have an electron‐donating methoxy‐(o‐OMe, 2a ) and methyl‐ (o‐Me, 2b ) substituents or an electron‐withdrawing cyano‐ (o‐CN, 2c ) and trifluoromethyl‐ (o‐CF3, 2d ) substituents at the ortho‐position of the aromatic ring and 7‐(m‐substituted phenyl)‐2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐benzoquinone methide with an electron‐withdrawing trifluoromethyl‐ (m‐CF3, 2e ) substituent at the meta‐position of the aromatic ring were synthesized, and their asymmetric anionic polymerizations using the complex of lithium 4‐isopropylphenoxide with (?)‐sparteine were carried out in toluene at 0 °C. The polymers with negative optical activity were obtained for all of five monomers, and their specific rotation values largely changed depending upon the substituents of the monomers. On the basis of the comparison of various substituents effects, it was found that the specific rotation of obtained polymers is significantly affected by the electronic effects such as inductive and resonance effects rather than the steric and electrostatic effects of the substituent. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of ten novel 2‐amino‐4‐oxo‐5‐[(substitutedbenzyl)thio]pyrrolo[2,3‐d]pyrimidines 2‐11 were synthesized as potential inhibitors of thymidylate synthase and as antitumor agents. The analogues contain various electron withdrawing and electron donating substituents on the benzylsulfanyl ring of the side chains and were synthesized from the key intermediate 2‐amino‐4‐oxo‐6‐methylpyrrolo[2,3‐d]pyrimidine, 14 . Appropriately substituted benzyl mercaptans were appended to the 5‐position of 14 via an oxidative addition reaction using iodine, ethanol and water. The compounds were evaluated against human, Escherichia coli and Toxoplasma gondii thymidylate synthase and against human, Escherichia coli and Toxoplasma gondii dihydrofolate reductase. The most potent inhibitor, ( 6 ) which has a 4′‐methoxy substituent on the side chain, has an IC50=25 μM against human thymidylate synthase. Contrary to analogues of general structure 1 , electron donating or electron withdrawing substituents on the side chain of 2‐11 had little or no influence on the human thymidylate synthase inhibitory activity. 相似文献

One‐pot, three‐component condensation of guanidine, ethylbenzoylacetate and various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of NaHCO3 have been investigated by microwave irradiation. The aromatic aldehydes bearing electron‐withdrawing groups undergo condensation with guanidine and ethylbenzoyl‐acetate to afford ethyl‐2‐amino‐4‐aryl‐1,4‐dihydro‐6‐phenylpyrimidine‐5‐carboxylate derivatives via Biginelli reaction. However, reaction of the aromatic aldehydes having electron‐releasing groups with guanidine and ethylbenzoylacetate did not give the corresponding dihydropyrimidines. Instead, novel 2‐amino‐5‐benzoyl‐5,6‐dihydro‐6‐arylpyrimidine‐4(3H)‐ones were obtained via an unexpected mechanism. 相似文献

Mono‐, di‐, tri‐, and tetraarylated thieno[3,2‐b ]thiophenes were synthesized by direct site‐selective Pd‐catalyzed C−H activation reactions with various aryl bromides in the presence of a phosphine‐free Pd(OAc)2/KOAc catalyst system in N ,N ‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc). The arylation of 2‐arylthieno[3,2‐b ]thiophene took place at the C3 position if the 2‐aryl substituents possessed electron‐withdrawing groups and at the C5 position if they were bulky and possessed electron‐donating groups. 相似文献

In the series of benzene‐1,4‐diamines (p‐phenylenediamines) investigated, 2‐(methoxymethyl)benzene‐1,4‐diamine (2‐methoxymethyl‐p‐phenylenediamine) is the most slowly oxidized, with removal of the first electron being rate determining. This electron‐withdrawing methoxymethyl group also drove a faster coupling step with 3‐aminophenol (m‐aminophenol) than for the analogs with electron‐donating groups. However, the series parent, benzene‐1,4‐diamine, exhibited the fastest coupling step. Since both N(1) and N(4) of the primary intermediates react with m‐aminophenol, it seems that steric hindrance by the 2‐substituents slows the overall rate. When 3‐amino‐2,6‐dimethylphenol is the coupler, the kinetics are biphasic. Nonproductive adducts are formed reversibly with all the primary intermediates by ipso attack at C(6). For 2‐(methoxymethyl)benzene‐1,4‐diamine, formation of this nonproductive adduct is favored more than for the other compounds in the series, in what seems to be a kinetically rather than thermodynamically controlled process. The one‐pot four‐component reaction of benzohydrazide, acetylenedicarboxylate, aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in ethanol with triethylamine as base catalyst afforded functionalized 1‐benzamido‐1,4‐dihydropyridines in satisfactory yields. Under similar conditions, picolinohydrazide or nicotinohydrazide can also be successfully utilized in the reactions to give corresponding functionalized 1,4‐dihydropyridines. 1H NMR data indicated that an equilibrium of cis/trans‐conformations exist in 1‐benzamido‐1,4‐dihydropyridines. 相似文献

A combination of nickel and photoredox catalysts promoted novel cross‐coupling reactions of aryl halides with 4‐alkyl‐1,4‐dihydropyridines. 4‐Alkyl‐1,4‐dihydropyridines act as formal nucleophilic alkylation reagents through a photoredox‐catalyzed carbon–carbon (C?C) bond‐cleavage process. The present strategy provides an alternative to classical carbon‐centered nucleophiles, such as organometallic reagents. 相似文献

NMR reaction following experiments were used to find optimal conditions for the barbituric acid double addition to aromatic and heteroaromatic carboxaldehydes. It was established that aromatic aldehydes with electron‐donating substituents such as hydroxy, methoxy, and dimethylamino produce only the single addition barbituric acid adduct (barbituric acid benzylidenes). If these electron‐donating substituents are transformed into electron‐withdrawing substituents by virtue of protonation (NMe2 to NHMe2+) then the double barbituric acid adduct becomes the sole product of the reaction. This is also true regardless of the reaction media if strong electron‐withdrawing substituents (such as a nitro group) are present. Considering that the reactive species for nitrogen containing aromatic heterocycles are actually the conjugated acids (electron deficient molecule) only the double barbituric acid adducts are isolated. All synthetic procedures presented are applicable to multi‐gram scale preparations of double barbituric acid adducts. 相似文献

A series of π‐conjugated polymers and copolymers containing 1,4‐dioxo‐3,6‐diphenylpyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole (also known as 2,5‐dihydro‐3,6‐diphenylpyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐1,4‐dione) (DPP) and 1,4‐phenylene units in the main chain is described. The polymers are synthesised using the palladium‐catalysed aryl‐aryl coupling reaction (Suzuki coupling) of 2,5‐dihexylbenzene‐1,4‐diboronic acid with 1,4‐dioxo‐2,5‐dihexyl‐3,6‐di(4‐bromophenyl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole and 1,4‐dibromo‐2,5‐dihexylbenzene in different molar ratios. Soluble hairy rod‐type polymers with molecular weights up to 21 000 are obtained. Polymer solutions in common organic solvents such as chloroform or xylene are of orange colour (λmax = 488 nm) and show strong photoluminescence (λmax = 544 nm). The photochemical stability is found to be higher than for corresponding saturated polymers containing isolated DPP units in the main chain. Good solubility and processability into thin films render the compounds suitable for electronic applications. 相似文献

A library of imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridines was synthesized by using the Gevorgyan method and their linear and non‐linear optical properties were studied. Derivatives that contained both electron‐donating and electron‐withdrawing groups at the 2 position were comprehensively investigated. Their emission quantum yield ranged between 0.2–0.7 and it was shown to depend on the substitution pattern, most notably that on the phenyl ring. Electron‐donating substituents improved the luminescence performance of these compounds, whereas electron‐withdrawing substituents led to a more erratic behavior. Substitution on the six‐membered ring had less effect on the fluorescence properties. Extension of the delocalization increased the luminescence quantum yield. A new quadrupolar system was designed that contained two imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridine units on its periphery and a 1,4‐dicyanobenzene unit at its center. This system exhibited a large Stokes‐shifted luminescence that was affected by the polarity and rigidity of the solvent, which was ascribed to emission from an excited state with strong charge‐transfer character. This quadrupolar feature also led to an acceptable two‐photon absorption response in the NIR region. 相似文献

A direct synthetic route for the C―S coupling of aryl halides with thiophenols is described. This method is tolerant to electron‐withdrawing and electron‐donating functional groups and also to the presence of functional groups in the ortho position of the aryl iodide or thiophenol. Aryl iodides are coupled with thiophenols without affecting the other functionalities present in the aryl ring. These reactions follow second‐order kinetics. New copoly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P3 ) containing alternate 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐di(m‐ethoxystyryl)benzene ( P1 , P2 ) or 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐distyrylbenzene ( P3 ) chromophores and aromatic 1,3,4‐oxadiazole ( P1 ) or 3,3″‐terphenyldicarbonitrile ( P2 , P3 ) segments were prepared by Horner reaction ( P1 and P2 ) or nucleophilic displacement reaction ( P3 ). They are basically amorphous materials with 5% weight‐loss temperature above 410 °C. Their absorption, photoluminescence spectra, and quantum yields are dependent on the composition of the isolated fluorophores. The emissions are exclusively dominated by 1,4‐distyrylbenzene segments via excitation energy transfer from electron‐transporting 1,3,4‐oxadiazole ( P1 ) or 3,3″‐terphenyldicarbonitrile ( P2 , P3 ) chromophores. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels have been estimated from their cyclic voltammograms, and the observations confirm that oxidation and reduction start from the emitting 1,4‐distyrylbenzene and electron‐transporting segments, respectively, indicating that both carriers affinity can be enhanced simultaneously. Among the two‐layer PLED devices (ITO/PEDOT/ P1 – P3 /Al), P1 exhibits the best performance with a turn‐on field of 4 × 105 V/cm and a maximum luminance of 225 cd/m2. The introduction of ester groups on the 5‐ and 15‐meso positions of corroles stabilizes them against oxidation and induces a redshift of their absorption and emission spectra. These effects are studied through the photophysical and electrochemical characterization of up to 16 different 5,15‐diester corroles, in which the third meso position is free or occupied by an aryl group, a long alkyl chain, or an ester moiety. Single‐crystal X‐ray structure analysis of five 5,15‐diestercorroles and DFT and time‐dependent DFT calculations show that the strong electron‐withdrawing character of the 5,15 ester substituents is reinforced by their π overlap with the macrocyclic aromatic system. The crystal packing of corroles 2 , 4 , 6 , 9 , and 15 features short distances between chromophores that are stacked into columns thanks to the low steric hindrance of meso‐ester groups. This close packing is partially due to intermolecular interactions that involve inner hydrogen and nitrogen atoms, and thereby, stabilize a single, identical corrole tautomeric form. 相似文献

The performance of chloride‐selective electrodes based on “two‐wall” aryl‐extended calix[4]pyrroles and multiwall carbon nanotubes is presented. The calix[4]pyrrole receptors bear two phenyl groups at opposite meso‐positions. When the meso‐phenyl groups are decorated with strong electron‐withdrawing substituents, attractive anion–π interactions may exist between the receptor’s aromatic walls and the sandwiched anion. These anion–π interactions are shown to significantly affect the selectivity of the electrodes. Calix[4]pyrrole, bearing a p‐nitro withdrawing group on each of the meso‐phenyl rings, afforded sensors that display anti‐Hofmeister behavior against the lipophilic salicylate and nitrate anions. Based on the experimental data, a series of principles that help in predicting the suitability of synthetic receptors for use as anion‐specific ionophores is discussed. Finally, the sensors deliver excellent results in the direct detection of chloride in bodily fluids. 相似文献

The electrochemical properties of 24 1,4‐dioxidoquinoxalin‐2‐yl ketone derivatives with varying degrees of anti‐Chagas activity were investigated in the aprotic solvent dimethylformamide (DMF) by cyclic voltammetry and first‐derivative cyclic voltammetry. For this group of compounds, the first reduction in DMF was either reversible or quasireversible and consistent with reduction of the N‐oxide functionality to form the radical anion. The second reduction process for these compounds was irreversible under the conditions used. The reduction potentials correlated well with molecular structure. Substitution in the 3‐, 6‐, and 7‐ positions of the quinoxaline ring by electron‐withdrawing substituents directly affected the ease of reduction and improved the biological activities of these compounds, whereas substitution by electron‐donating groups had the opposite effect. The electrochemical results, when combined with previous work on their mechanism of action against Chagas disease and their measured anti‐Chagas activities, indicated that the quinoxaline 1,4‐dioxide system serves as a promising starting point for chemical modifications aimed at improving the T. cruzi activity via a possible bioreduction mechanism. 相似文献

The analogues contain various electron donating and electron withdrawing substituents on the phenylsulfanyl ring of the side chains and were synthesized from the key intermediate 2,6‐diamino‐6‐methyl‐7H‐pyrrolo[2,3‐d]‐pyrimidine, 14 . Compound 14 , was in turn obtained by chlorination of 4‐position of 2‐amino‐6‐methylpyrrolo[2,3‐d]pyrimidin‐4(3H)‐one, 16 followed by displacement with ammonia. Appropriately substituted phenyl thiols were appended to the 5‐position of 14 via an oxidative addition reaction using iodine, ethanol and water. The compounds were evaluated against rat liver, rat‐derived Pneumocystis, Mycobacterium avium and Toxoplasma gondii dihydrofolate reductase. The most potent and selective inhibitor, (2) has a 1‐naphthyl side chain. In this series of compounds electron‐withdrawing and bulky substituents in the side chain afford marginally active dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors. The single atom sulfur bridge in the side chain of these compounds is not conducive to potent dihydrofolate reductase inhibition. 相似文献

We report the synthesis of a series of blue‐emitting 2‐phenylbenzoxazoles (PBOs) substituted at either the 5‐ or 6‐position of the benzoxazole ring and the para‐position of the phenyl substituent. The thermal and optical properties of the materials can be rationalized in terms of the position of the substituent at the benzoxazole moiety and the electron‐withdrawing or electron‐donating character of the substituents. From the results, we conclude that the combination of an electron‐donating substituent at the benzoxazole fragment and an electron‐withdrawing one at the phenyl fragment has a more marked effect on the electronic properties of the aromatic PBO core than other possibilities. This particular combination gives luminophores that are suitable for optical applications on the basis of their high emission efficiency and photostability. In view of that, oriented films were prepared by in situ polymerization of a mixture of a liquid crystalline direactive matrix containing 5% (w/w) of the luminophore. This study targets the construction of porphyrin assemblies directed by halogen bonds, by utilizing a series of purposely synthesized Sn(axial ligand)2–(5,10,15,20‐tetraarylporphyrin) [Sn(L)2‐TArP] complexes as building units. The porphyrin moiety and the axial ligands in these compounds contain different combinations of complimentary molecular recognition functions. The former bears p‐iodophenyl, p‐bromophenyl, 4′‐pyridyl, or 3′‐pyridyl substituents at the meso positions of the porphyrin ring. The latter comprises either a carboxylate or hydroxy anchor for attachment to the porphyrin‐inserted tin ion and a pyridyl‐, benzotriazole‐, or halophenyl‐type aromatic residue as the potential binding site. The various complexes were structurally analyzed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, accompanied by computational modeling evaluations. Halogen‐bonding interactions between the lateral aryl substituents of one unit of the porphyrin complex and the axial ligands of neighboring moieties was successfully expressed in several of the resulting samples. Their occurrence is affected by structural (for example, specific geometry of the six‐coordinate complexes) and electronic effects (for example, charge densities and electrostatic potentials). The shortest intermolecular I???N halogen‐bonding distance of 2.991 Å was observed between iodophenyl (porphyrin) and benzotriazole (axial ligand) moieties. Manifestation of halogen bonds in these relatively bulky compounds without further activation of the halophenyl donor groups by electron‐withdrawing substituents is particularly remarkable. 相似文献

The chemoselectivity in the reaction of 2‐diazo‐3‐oxo‐3‐phenylpropanal ( 1 ) with aldehydes and ketones in the presence of Et3N was investigated. The results indicate that 1 reacts with aromatic aldehydes with weak electron‐donating substituents and cyclic ketones under formation of 6‐phenyl‐4H‐1,3‐dioxin‐4‐one derivatives. However, it reacts with aromatic aldehydes with electron‐withdrawing substituents to yield 1,3‐diaryl‐3‐hydroxypropan‐1‐ones, accompanied by chalcone derivatives in some cases. It did not react with linear ketones, aliphatic aldehydes, and aromatic aldehydes with strong electron‐donating substituents. A mechanism for the formation of 1,3‐diaryl‐3‐hydroxypropan‐1‐ones and chalcone derivatives is proposed. We also tried to react 1 with other unsaturated compounds, including various olefins and nitriles, and cumulated unsaturated compounds, such as N,N′‐dialkylcarbodiimines, phenyl isocyanate, isothiocyanate, and CS2. Only with N,N′‐dialkylcarbodiimines, the expected cycloaddition took place. 相似文献
