Towards finite-fold Diophantine representations

The celebrated theorem established by Martin Davis, Hilary Putnam, and Julia Robinson in 1961 states that every effectively enumerable set of natural numbers has an exponential Diophantine representation. This theorem was improved by the author in two ways:

Weight of faces in plane maps

Precise upper bounds are obtained for the minimum weight of minor faces in normal plane maps and 3-polytopes with specified maximum vertex degree. On decoupling,series expansions,and tail behavior of chaos processes

Some important aspects of chaos random variables such as decoupling, an almost sure representation (a Karhunen-Loeve expansion) and integrability are discussed here, the first being a tool for, and the third as a consequence of, the second. A new proof of <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript> estimates for the parabolic polyharmonic equations

In this paper we obtain local L ^p estimates for the parabolic polyharmonic equations by a straightforward approach. Construction of algorithms of reconstruction tomography

An algorithm for the recovery of the parameter field of elastic waves by the method diffraction tomography is suggested. A priori information is taken into account in probabilistic form. Under different assumptions on the statistical correlations of the parameter field, different modifications of the algorithm are considered. The notion of the information sensitivity of the measurement field with respect to a fixed linear parameter field is introduced. Inverse nodal problems for the Sturm-Liouville differential operators on a star-type graph

We study inverse nodal problems for the second order differential operators on a star-type graph satisfying the standard matching conditions at the interior vertex. Global stability of the Armstrong-Frederick model with periodic biaxial inputs

The paper is concerned with the study of plasticity models described by differential equations with stop and play operators. We suggest sufficient conditions for the global stability of a unique periodic solution for the scalar models and for the vector models with biaxial inputs of a particular form, namely the sum of a uniaxial function and a constant term. For another class of simple biaxial inputs, we present an example of the existence of unstable periodic solutions. The paper was written during the research stay of D. Justification of a construction of the solution of the problem on a point source ofSH waves in a layered medium with vertical boundary

The solution is determined by the method of separation of variables. The method is justified by using a suitable space of generalized functions. Boundary conditions “are hidden” in this space. Generalized Polar Decompositions for Closed Operators in Hilbert Spaces and Some Applications

We study generalized polar decompositions of densely defined closed linear operators in Hilbert spaces and provide some applications to relatively (form) bounded and relatively (form) compact perturbations of self-adjoint, normal, and m-sectorial operators. Multi-dimensional versions of a formula of Popoviciu

In this paper, an explicit formulation for multivariate truncated power functions of degree one is given firstly. Based on multivariate truncated power functions of degree one, a formulation is presented which counts the number of non-negative integer solutions of s×(s 1) linear Diophantine equations and it can be considered as a multi-dimensional versions of the formula counting the number of non-negative integer solutions of ax by = n which is given by Popoviciu in 1953.     

On the McKay quivers and <Emphasis Type="Italic">m</Emphasis>-Cartan matrices

In this paper, we introduce the m-Cartan matrix and observe that some properties of the quadratic form associated to the Cartan matrix of an Euclidean diagram can be generalized to the m-Cartan matrix of a McKay quiver. We also describe the McKay quiver for a finite abelian subgroup of a special linear group. Representation type of local and two-vertex bocses

Let κ be an algebraically closed field. It has been proved by Zhang and Xu that if a bocs is of tame representation type, then the degree of the diffierential of the first solid arrow must be less than or equal to 3. We will prove in the present paper that: The bocs is still wild when the degree of the diffierential of the first arrow is equal to 3. Especially, the bocs with only one solid arrow is of tame type if and only if the degree of the diffierential of the arrow is less than or equal to 2. Moreover,...     

To the ray tomography problem for creeping waves

This paper justifies the necessity of introducing corrections for the ray curvature into the standard procedure of the tomographic inversion in the case of using traveltime data for the creeping waves. The Feynman-Stratonovich semigroup and stratonovich integral expansions in nonlinear filtering

Representations for the solution of the Zakai equation in terms of multiple Stratonovich integrals are derived. A new semigroup (the Feynman-Stratonovich semigroup) associated with the Zakai equation is introduced and using the relationship between multiple Stratonovich integrals and iterated Stratonovich integrals, a representation for the unnormalized conditional density,u(t,x), solely in terms of the initial density and the semigroup, is obtained. In addition, a Fourier seriestype representation foru(t,x) is given, where the coefficients in this representation uniquely solve an infinite system of partial differential equations. This representation is then used to obtain approximations foru(t,x). An explicit error bound for this approximation, which is of the same order as for the case of multiple Wiener integral representations, is obtained. Natural oscillations of mechanical systems and the spectral theory of self-adjoint operators

In this paper, the following assertion is illustrated with some examples. In practically all cases, the problem on natural oscillations for linear holonomic nondissipative mechanical systems reduces to the problem of determining eigenvalues and eigenelements of the corresponding self-adjoint operator acting in the Hilbert space generated by the quadratic form of the kinetic energy. On conditions of the dynamic equivalence of waves in multilayer elastic media

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the dynamic equivalence of two waves propagating in an elastic p-layer medium and undergoing all kinds of exchanges on the medium interfaces are formulated. These conditions are represented in the form of equalities involving powers of the reflection and refraction coefficients occurring in the expressions for the intensities of these waves. Modified likelihood ratio test for homogeneity in bivariate normal mixtures with presence of a structural parameter

This paper investigates the asymptotic properties of the modified likelihood ratio statistic for testing homogeneity in bivariate normal mixture models with an unknown structural parameter. It is shown that the modified likelihood ratio statistic has χ22 null limiting distribution.

Two Kinds of Numbers and Their Applications

C. Radoux （J. Comput. Appl. Math., 115 （2000） 471-477） obtained a computational formula of Hankel determinants on some classical combinatorial sequences such as Catalan numbers and polynomials, Bell polynomials, Hermite polynomials, Derangement polynomials etc. From a pair of matrices this paper introduces two kinds of numbers. Using the first kind of numbers we give a unified treatment of Hankel determinants on those sequences, i.e., to consider a general representation of Hankel matrices on the first kind of numbers. It is interesting that the Hankel determinant of the first kind of numbers has a close relation that of the second kind of numbers.
