An asymptotic method is used for researching an integrated optical multilayer waveguide satisfying the condition of the smooth modification of the shape of the studied three-dimensional structure. Three-dimensional fields of smoothly deforming modes of the integrated optical waveguide are described analytically. An evident dependence of the contributions that the first order of smallness makes to the amplitudes of the electrical and magnetic fields of the quasi-waveguide modes is obtained. The canonical type of equations describing the propagation of quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes in the smoothly irregular part of a four-layer integrated optical waveguide is represented for an asymptotic method. With the help of the method of coupled waves and the perturbation theory method, the shifts of complex propagation constants for quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes are obtained in an explicit form. The elaborated theory is applicable for an analysis of similar structures of dielectric materials, magnetic materials, and metamaterials over a wide enough range of electromagnetic wavelengths.  相似文献

A new, general and exact method for resolving waveguide and grating problems is presented whereby the unknown electric field in a given dielectric distribution in the presence of an arbitrary source distribution can be obtained exactly from the known complete electric field solution in a simpler dielectric structure in the presence of the same source distribution. The method can be used in the form of an iterative scheme. The solution can also be obtained through an implicit equation which can be solved numerically without convergence problem by matrix inversion. The application of the method to the case of abnormal reflection under normal incidence from a segmented waveguide is given as an example.  相似文献

The problem on the synthesis of a planar Mikaelian lens in the form of layered metal?dielectric waveguide with a nonuniform anisotropic dielectric layer is solved. The problem is reduced to solution of the dispersion equations for E and H modes of a homogeneous layered waveguide. As an example of implementation of the solution obtained, the synthesis and analysis of the Mikaelian lens is carried out on the basis of the EBG structure in the form of a planar corrugated open and closed layered metal?dielectric waveguide. For a special case of the closed waveguide, the solution of the problem of synthesis for both polarizations is obtained explicitly.  相似文献

A coaxial waveguide partially filled with a dielectric as the slow-wave structure of a dielectric Cherenkov maser is investigated. The dispersion of the fundamental mode of this waveguide is very weak at phase velocities close to the velocity of light, and for this reason a very wide gain bandwidth is possible under conditions of an interaction with a relativistic electron beam. The dispersion equation for an infinitely thin tubular beam in a coaxial waveguide with a dielectric liner adjoining either the outer or inner conducting surface is derived. The gain bandwidth as a function of the parameters of the electron beam and the slow-wave system are investigated on the basis of numerical solution of the dispersion equation, and a comparison with similar dependences for the conventional configuration of a dielectric Cherenkov maser is made. The structural features of the coaxial configuration which enable novel approaches to the problems of matching the microwave signal at the entrance and exit of the system are discussed. Zh. Tekh. 为了解决传统的强度检测型波导激励的表面等离子体共振传感器灵敏度不高的缺点,研究平面波导激励的介质膜-金属-被测介质的可激发修正的长程表面等离子体波结构。采用离子交换的方法制备折射率可用费米函数拟合的平面波导,研究了离子交换时间对平面波导的模数及等效折射率等特性的影响,为激励波导的优化设计提供有效依据。采用制备的平面波导激励介质膜-金属-被测介质的非对称结构,研究金属材质、介质膜厚和金属膜厚等因素对修正的长程表面等离子体波特性的影响,对被测溶液的折射率进行检测。实验结果表明,其灵敏度为传统的强度检测型表面等离子体共振传感器的6倍,并且具有较好的线性关系。  相似文献

研究一个芯子层是左手材料,其他三层由传统材料构成的四层平板光波导系统,利用图解法对各种TE偏振的导波模式的解进行详细分析.研究表明,四层左手材料光波导既能支持振荡导模,也能支持表面导模,与三层左手材料光波导相比较,此四层波导的导波模式呈现一些新的特性.对于中间传统材料层存在振荡场的情形:芯子层支持振荡导模的光波导中存在基模,并且高阶振荡导模出现模式缺失的性质;芯子层支持表面导模的光波导可以支持基模和多个高阶模式,并且存在模式兼并的性质.对于中间传统材料层存在衰减场的情形,此四层波导结构可等效为三层左手材料光波导.这些新的光波导传输性质对各种光波导器件的制作有潜在的应用价值.  相似文献

在传统脊状等离子体波导的基础上设计了一种带有增益介质层的新型混合脊状等离子体波导,其结构中的介质层部分包含两个区域:前区为单一介质,后区的脊是由2种介质构成的双层脊区。采用二维时域有限差分方法分析了波导结构的传输特性,得到了TM模下的电场分布图,并对输出功率以及传输损耗与结构参数和介质折射率的变化规律进行了讨论。结果表明,在波导中引入的增益介质材料磷化铟后其损耗达到-6 dB/μm。此种波导结构对于光集成芯片的研究与制作具有重要意义。  相似文献

The paper presents a rigorous solution of the scattering problem by a circular dielectric and perfectly conducting cylinders of any radius and any height in the rectangular waveguide oriented perpendicularly to a wall. The method is based on the representation of fields in waveguide and dielectric medium by cylindrical eigenfunctions and application of boundary conditions on surfaces of the cylinder to evaluate the fields inside and outside the cylinder. The reflection and transmission coefficients are expressed through the fields. As an example the reflection and transmission coefficients versus frequency for various dielectric and metallic cylinders are computed. The comparison of numerical with experimental data is presented.  相似文献

The pulse propagation in a non-linear slab waveguide of parabolic index of refraction is treated by using differential equation techniques. A graded index dielectric slab waveguide free of material dispersion with a cubic order non-linearity is considered. The electromagnetic wave inside the waveguide is described in terms of a non-linear equation. Slowly varying envelope function representation is employed to develop a non-linear partial differential equation for the unknown envelope function of the electric field. An averaging method over the transverse direction is applied to reduce the unknown envelope function non-linear differential equation into a form resembling the well known non-linear Schrödinger differential equation. This equation is solved by applying the Inverse Scattering Method. The N-soliton solution is developed and presented explicitly for the practical case of the single mode dielectric slab waveguide. Numerical results presenting single and double soliton propagation are also given.  相似文献

A hybrid optical waveguide having a 90° sharp bend structure, composed of a dielectric straight waveguide, tapered dielectric strip waveguide, and microscale metal gap waveguide, is proposed and simulated to improve the efficiency of light coupling between dielectric and plasmonic waveguides. Our simulation result is a critical step for the hybrid integration of plasmonic components with conventional dielectric components.  相似文献

Symmetrically perturbed photonic crystal waveguide can be constructed by inserting perturbative dielectric rods into photonic crystal waveguide structure with whose rods’ radius distributed according to a certain proportion. Slow light properties in this new structure are studied by using the plane wave expansion method (PWM). In this paper, schemes of adjusting radius of perturbative dielectric rods and adjusting the dielectric constant of perturbative dielectric rods are proposed to optimize slow light properties. The result shows that the scheme for adjusting radius of perturbative rods can realize larger average slow light bandwidth and efficiently control the NDBP value of the waveguide, but it contributes little to obtain smaller group velocity. The scheme for adjusting dielectric constant of perturbative rods can realize smaller group velocity, but can only obtain smaller slow light bandwidth and cannot efficiently enlarge NDBP value of waveguide. Both optimization schemes proposed in this paper realize group velocity that is two magnitudes smaller than the vacuum speed of light meanwhile maintaining large NDBP and low GVD region. Our results provide important theoretical basis for the potential application offered by symmetrically perturbed photonic crystal in future optical networks.  相似文献

The transmission characteristics of curved dielectric waveguide are analyzed with a method, which combines the staircase approximation with the edge element analysis and mode matching procedure. In each stair the uniform waveguide is treated with edge element method. Then the transmission property of the whole curved guiding structure is calculated with multimode network methods. The effectiveness of the present method is justified by the results given in the literature. It is believed that this approach can be applied to a variety of curved dielectric waveguides with arbitrary transverse profiles.  相似文献

Periodic dielectric-loaded waveguide is one of the diaphragmatic waveguides.For the excellent mode-selective propagation ability,it is of value for applications in gyrotron-traveling-wave amplifiers(gyro-TWT),accelerators,and other microwave propagation systems.This paper focuses on studying the application of the strong lossy-dielectricloaded periodic waveguide in millimeter-wave gyro-TWT.It is revealed that due to the lossy property of the dielectric,the energy in the dielectric slots is absorbed effectively and the high order Bloch harmonics induced by the periodicity of the structure are suppressed,which changes the discrete spectrum under lossless condition into a continuous one.As a result,the periodicity of the system is severely suppressed and a mode in the hollow region could be approximated by a fast wave mode in an empty waveguide.These results bring specific guidance for the applications of the lossy dielectric-loaded waveguide in gyro-TWTs and other devices.  相似文献

A new solving method of non-unifrom dielectric planar waveguide is presented in this paper. By applying this method to solving the problem of planar dielectric waveguide with arbitrary refractive index variation, the advantage of this new method is more evident. By dividing the waveguide into proper numbers and thickness of layers, we can transform the problem of non-uniform dielectric planar waveguide into the multilayer dielectric waveguide to calculate its propagation constantβ.  相似文献

A two-dimensional real waveguide having a parabolic distribution of dielectric permittivity in the core region, flanked by cladding layers of constant refractive index is proposed as a model for a class of stripe-geometry injection lasers. The model is analysed by a series-solution method and results are given in terms of plots of normalized propagation constant, near-field filling factor, and far-field half-angle, all versus normalized frequency. These results are compared with those for the alternative models of (a) a homogeneous core waveguide, and (b) a medium whose dielectric permittivity varies quadratically with position throughout the whole of space.Apart from the series-solution method which was employed, a survey is included of other techniques available for analysing this waveguide model. These include perturbation theory, variational analysis, an exact solution of the scalar wave equation, and the WKB approximation.  相似文献

In this paper, the frequency selective reflection characteristics of dielectric periodic structures for the oblique incidence of a plane wave are analyzed by a method which combines the multimode network theory with the rigorous mode matching method. The variations of the total reflection characteristics with the geometric dimensions of the dielectric periodic structures are systematically investigated to develop useful guidelines for the design of the dielectric frequency selective surface. Moreover, the relationship between the related wave phenomenon and the dispersion characteristics of multilayer plane dielectric structure is explained with the theory of plane dielectric waveguide.  相似文献

A simple method of solving the inverse medium problem in order to determine the complex dielectric constant of a lossy dielectric material at microwave frequencies is presented. The arbitrarily shaped dielectric sample placed in a rectangular waveguide is considered. Electromagnetic fields in the waveguide are expanded in series of harmonic functions. A set of linear equations is obtained using the finite–difference technique. An additional empirical condition, which is related to the measured reflection and/or transmission coefficients and results in an overdetermined system, is added and then the system is defined by the addition of a trivial extra parameter. The sample's dielectric properties are obtained by solving the resulting eigenvalue problem. An algorithm to extract proper results from the set of eigenvalues is defined by considering the properties of numerical solution. The system is tested by using an alternative method.  相似文献

We present a new method for electromagnetic modeling radar scattering processes. In this method we use a quasi-optical waveguide of the type of "hollow dielectric waveguide" as a fundamental component of radar cross section (RCS) instrumentation systems. Such waveguide structure produces required target-illuminating quasiplane wave and suppresses unwanted waves as well as transmits the legitimate signal from test object, mounted inside this waveguide, to the reception zone. Presented method is especially effective one in millimeter and submillimeter wave regions, in particular, for investigation RCS of targets with small reflectivity.  相似文献
