This article is devoted to combined convection heat transfer of nanofluids through a vertical channel filled with a homogeneous and isotropic porous medium. The flow is assumed to be fully developed and the “Brinkman extended Darcy” model is used for the flow in the porous media and “clear compatible” viscous dissipation model is considered. Also the model utilized for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The governing momentum, energy, and nanopartices volume fraction equations are solved both analytically and numerically. The effects of the influential dimensionless parameters such as Brownian and thermophoresis parameters, mixed convection parameter (Gr/Re), Brinkman, Darcy and Lewis numbers on dimensionless velocity and temperature distributions and pressure drop are studied. Also, the results of the Nusselt number for the both left and right walls are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Two phase mixture model is used to numerically simulate the turbulent forced convection of Al2O3-Water nanofluid in a channel with corrugated wall under constant heat flux. Both mixture and single phase models are implemented to study the nanofluid flow in such a geometry and the results have been compared. The effects of the volume fraction of nanoparticles, Reynolds number and amplitude of the wavy wall on the rate of heat transfer are investigated. The results showed that with increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles, Reynolds number and amplitude of wall waves, the rate of heat transfer increases. Also the results showed that the mixture model yields to higher Nusselt numbers than the single phase model in a similar case.  相似文献

Analytical and numerical analyses have been performed for fully developed forced convection in a fluid-saturated porous medium channel bounded by two parallel plates. The channel walls are assumed to be finite in thickness. Conduction heat transfer inside the channel wall is also accounted and the full problem is treated as a conjugate heat transfer problem. The flow in the porous material is described by the Darcy–Brinkman momentum equation. The outer surfaces of the solid walls are treated as isothermal. A temperature dependent volumetric heat generation is considered inside the solid wall only. Analytical expressions for velocity, temperature, and Nusselt number are obtained after simplifying and solving the governing differential equations with reasonable approximations. Subsequent results obtained by numerical calculations show an excellent agreement with the analytical results.  相似文献

Steady and pulsatile flow and heat transfer in a channel lined with two porous layers subject to constant wall heat flux under local thermal non-equilibrium (LTNE) condition is numerically investigated. To do this, a physical boundary condition in the interface of porous media and clear region of the channel is derived. The objective of this work is, first, to assess the effects of local solid-to-fluid heat transfer (a criterion indicating on departure from local thermal equilibrium (LTE) condition), solid-to-fluid thermal conductivity ratio and porous layer thickness on convective heat transfer in steady condition inside a channel partially filled with porous media; second, to examine the impact of pulsatile flow on heat transfer in the same channel. The effects of LTNE condition and thermal conductivity ratio in pulsatile flow are also briefly discussed. It is observed that Nusselt number inside the channel increases when the problem is tending to LTE condition. Therefore, careless consideration of LTE may lead to overestimation of heat transfer. Solid-to-fluid thermal conductivity ratio is also shown to enhance heat transfer in constant porous media thickness. It is also revealed that an increase in the amplitude of pulsation may result in enhancement of Nusselt number, while Nusselt number has a minimum in a certain frequency for each value of amplitude.  相似文献

An analytical study is performed on steady, laminar, and fully developed forced convection heat transfer in a parallel plate channel with asymmetric uniform heat flux boundary conditions. The channel is filled with a saturated porous medium, and the lower and upper walls are subjected to different uniform heat fluxes. The dimensionless form of the Darcy–Brinkman momentum equation is solved to determine the dimensionless velocity profile, while the dimensionless energy equation is solved to obtain temperature profile for a hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed flow in the channel. Nusselt numbers for the lower and upper walls and an overall Nusselt number are defined. Analytical expressions for determination of the Nusselt numbers and critical heat flux ratio, at which singularities are observed for individual Nusselt numbers, are obtained. Based on the values of critical heat flux ratio and Darcy number, a diagram is provided to determine the direction of heat transfer between the lower or upper walls while the fluid is flowing in the channel.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the heat transfer performance due to free convection of nanofluids with variable properties inside 2D and 3D channels with trapezoidal cross sections. The governing equations are solved numerically using the finite volume method and the SIMPLER algorithm. In this study, the effect of the nanoparticle volume fraction, Rayleigh number, side wall angles of the trapezoidal section, and axial slope of the 3D channel are examined. The presented results include the average Nusselt number, flow circulation streamlines, and isothermal contours. The heat transfer rate (i.e., Nusselt number) is seen to increase in both 2D and 3D channels with an increase in the Rayleigh number. In 2D trapezoidal enclosures, the Nusselt number decreases with an increase in the nanoparticle volume fraction from zero to 2% and increases if the nanoparticle volume fraction is greater than 2%. In 3D channels, an increase in the axial slope of the channel leads to an increase in the Nusselt number.  相似文献

A numerical study is performed to analyze steady laminar forced convection in a channel in which discrete heat sources covered with porous material are placed on the bottom wall. Hydrodynamic and heat transfer results are reported. The flow in the porous medium is modeled using the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model. A computer program based on control volume method with appropriate averaging for diffusion coefficient is developed to solve the coupling between solid, fluid, and porous region. The effects of parameters such as Reynolds number, Prandtl number, inertia coefficient, and thermal conductivity ratio are considered. The results reveal that the porous cover with high thermal conductivity enhances the heat transfer from the solid blocks significantly and decreases the maximum temperature on the heated solid blocks. The mean Nusselt number increases with increase of Reynolds number and Prandtl number, and decrease of inertia coefficient. The pressure drop along the channel increases rapidly with the increase of Reynolds number.  相似文献

The thermal performance of a nanofluid in a cooling chamber with variations of the nanoparticle diameter is numerically investigated. The chamber is filled with water and nanoparticles of alumina (Al2O3). Appropriate nanofluid models are used to approximate the nanofluid thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity by incorporating the effects of the nanoparticle concentration, Brownian motion, temperature, nanoparticles diameter, and interfacial layer thickness. The horizontal boundaries of the square domain are assumed to be insulated, and the vertical boundaries are considered to be isothermal. The governing stream-vorticity equations are solved by using a secondorder central finite difference scheme coupled with the mass and energy conservation equations. The results of the present work are found to be in good agreement with the previously published data for special cases. This study is conducted for the Reynolds number being fixed at Re = 100 and different values of the nanoparticle volume fraction, Richardson number, nanofluid temperature, and nanoparticle diameter. The results show that the heat transfer rate and the Nusselt number are enhanced by increasing the nanoparticle volume fraction and decreasing the Richardson number. The Nusselt number also increases as the nanoparticle diameter decreases.  相似文献

A side heated two dimensional square cavity filled with a nanofluid is here studied. The side heating condition is obtained by imposing two different uniform temperatures at the vertical boundary walls. The horizontal walls are assumed to be adiabatic and all boundaries are assumed to be impermeable to the base fluid and to the nanoparticles. In order to study the behavior of the nanofluid, a non-homogeneous model is taken into account. The thermophysical properties of the nanofluid are assumed to be functions of the average volume fraction of nanoparticles dispersed inside the cavity. The definitions of the nondimensional governing parameters (Rayleigh number, Prandtl number and Lewis number) are exactly the same as for the clear fluids. The distribution of the nanoparticles shows a particular sensitivity to the low Rayleigh numbers. The average Nusselt number at the vertical walls is sensitive to the average volume fraction of the nanoparticles dispersed inside the cavity and it is also sensitive to the definition of the thermophysical properties of the nanofluid. Highly viscous base fluids lead to a critical behavior of the model when the simulation is performed in pure conduction regime. The solution of the problem is obtained numerically by means of a Galerkin finite element method.  相似文献

Fluid transport and the associated heat transfer through porous media is of immense importance because of its numerous practical applications. In view of the widespread applications of porous media flow, the present study attempts to investigate the forced convective heat transfer in the limiting condition for the flow through porous channel. There could be many areas, where heat transfer through porous channel attain some limiting conditions, thus, the analysis of limiting convective heat transfer is far reaching. The primary aim of the present study is focused on the limiting forced convection analysis considering the flow of Newtonian fluid between two asymmetrically heated parallel plates filled with saturated porous media. Utilizing a few assumptions, which are usually employed in the literature, an analytical methodology is executed to obtain the closed-form expression of the temperature profile, and in the following the expression of the limiting Nusselt numbers. The parametric variations of the temperature profile and the Nusselt numbers in different cases have been shown highlighting the influential role of different performance indexing parameters, like Darcy number, porosity of the media, and Brinkman number of forced convective heat transfer in porous channel. In doing so, the underlying physics of the transport characteristics of heat has been delineated in a comprehensive way. Moreover, a discussion has been made regarding an important feature like the onset of point of singularity as appeared on the variation of the Nusselt number from the consideration of energy balance in the flow field, and in view of second law of thermodynamics.  相似文献

In this article, a numerical investigation is performed on flow and heat transfer of confined impinging slot jet, with a mixture of water and Al2O3 nanoparticles as the working fluid. Two-dimensional turbulent flow is considered and a constant temperature is applied on the impingement surface. The k ? ω turbulence model is used for the turbulence computations. Two-phase mixture model is implemented to study such a flow field. The governing equations are solved using the finite volume method. In order to consider the effect of obstacle angle on temperature fields in the channel, the numerical simulations were performed for different obstacle angles of 0° ? 60°. Also different geometrical parameters, volume fractions and Reynolds numbers have been considered to study the behavior of the system in terms of stagnation point, average and local Nusselt number and stream function contours. The results showed that the intensity and size of the vortex structures depend on jet- impingement surface distance ratio (H/W) and volume fraction. The maximum Nusselt number occurs at the stagnation point with the highest values at about H/W = 1. Increasing obstacle angle, from 15° to 60°, enhances the heat transfer rate. It was also revealed that the minimum value of average Nusselt number occurs in higher H/W ratios with decreasing the channel length.

A two-velocity two-temperature model for bi-dispersed porous media is formulated. Using the model, an analytic solution is obtained for the problem of forced convection in a channel between parallel plane walls that are held either at uniform temperature or uniform heat flux. In each case, Nusselt number values are given as functions of a conductivity ratio, a velocity ratio, a volume fraction, and an internal heat exchange parameter.  相似文献

The main purpose of this study is to survey numerically comparison of two- phase and single phase of heat transfer and flow field of copper-water nanofluid in a wavy channel. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) prediction is used for heat transfer and flow prediction of the single phase and three different two-phase models (mixture, volume of fluid (VOF), and Eulerian). The heat transfer coefficient, temperature, and velocity distributions are investigated. The results show that the differences between the temperature fie].d in the single phase and two-phase models are greater than those in the hydrodynamic tleld. Also, it is found that the heat transfer coefficient predicted by the single phase model is enhanced by increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles for all Reynolds numbers; while for the two-phase models, when the Reynolds number is low, increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles will enhance the heat transfer coefficient in the front and the middle of the wavy channel, but gradually decrease along the wavy channel.  相似文献

This article reports a numerical study of double-diffusive convection in a fluid-saturated vertical porous annulus subjected to discrete heat and mass fluxes from a portion of the inner wall. The outer wall is maintained at uniform temperature and concentration, while the top and bottom walls are adiabatic and impermeable to mass transfer. The physical model for the momentum equation is formulated using the Darcy law, and the resulting governing equations are solved using an implicit finite difference technique. The influence of physical and geometrical parameters on the streamlines, isotherms, isoconcentrations, average Nusselt and Sherwood numbers has been numerically investigated in detail. The location of heat and solute source has a profound influence on the flow pattern, heat and mass transfer rates in the porous annulus. For the segment located at the bottom portion of inner wall, the flow rate is found to be higher, whereas the heat and mass transfer rates are higher when the source is placed near the middle of the inner wall. Further, the average Sherwood number increases with Lewis number, while for the average Nusselt number the effect is opposite. The average Nusselt number increases with radius ratio (λ); however, the average Sherwood number increases with radius ratio only up to λ = 5, and for λ > 5 , the average Sherwood number does not increase significantly.  相似文献

A steady stagnation-point flow of an incompressible Maxwell fluid towards a linearly stretching sheet with active and passive controls of nanoparticles is studied numerically. The momentum equation of the Maxwell nanofluid is inserted with an external velocity term as a result of the flow approaches the stagnation point. Conventional energy equation is modified by incorporation of nanofluid Brownian and thermophoresis effects. The condition of zero normal flux of nanoparticles at the stretching surface is defined to impulse the particles away from the surface in combination with nonzero normal flux condition. A hydrodynamic slip velocity is also added to the initial condition as a component of the entrenched stretching velocity. The governing partial differential equations are then reduced into a system of ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformation. A classical shooting method is applied to solve the nonlinear coupled differential equations. The velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles together with the reduced skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are graphically presented to visualize the effects of particular parameters. Temperature distributions in passive control model are consistently lower than in the active control model. The magnitude of the reduced skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number decrease as the hydrodynamic slip parameter increases while the Brownian parameter has negligible effect on the reduced heat transfer rate when nanoparticles are passively controlled at the surface. It is also found that the stagnation parameter contributes better heat transfer performance of the nanofluid under both active and passive controls of normal mass flux.  相似文献

Extensive improvements in small-scale thermal systems in electronic circuits, automotive industries, and microcomputers conduct the study of microsystems as essential. Flow and thermic field characteristics of the coherent nanofluid-guided microchannel heat sink are described in this perusal. The porous media approximate was used to search the heat distribution in the expanded sheet and Cu: γ - AlOOH/water. A hybrid blend of Boehme copper and aluminum nanoparticles is evaluated to have a cooling effect on the microchannel heat sink. By using Akbari Ganji and finite element methods, linear and non-linear differential equations as well as simple dimensionless equations have been analyzed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the fluid and thermal parameters of copper hybrid solution added to water, such as Nusselt number and Darcy number so that we can reach the best cooling of the fluid. Also, by installing a piece of fin on the wall of the heat sink, the coefficient of conductive heat transfer and displacement heat transfer with the surrounding air fluid increases, and the efficiency of the system increases. The overall results show that expanding values on the NP (series heat transfer fluid system maximizes performance with temperatures) volume division of copper, as well as boehmite alumina particles, lead to a decrease within the stream velocity of the Cu: AlOOH/water. Increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles in the hybrid mixture decreases the temperature of the solid surface and the hybrid nanofluid. The Brownian movement improves as the volume percentage of nanoparticles in the hybrid mixture grows, spreading the heat across the environment. As a result, heat transmission rates rise. As the Darcy number increases, the thermal field for solid sections and Cu: AlOOH/water improves.  相似文献

The steady laminar incompressible free convective flow of a nanofluid over a permeable upward facing horizontal plate located in porous medium taking into account the thermal convective boundary condition is studied numerically. The nanofluid model used involves the effect of Brownian motion and the thermophoresis. Using similarity transformations the continuity, the momentum, the energy, and the nanoparticle volume fraction equations are transformed into a set of coupled similarity equations, before being solved numerically, by an implicit finite difference numerical method. Our analysis reveals that for a true similarity solution, the convective heat transfer coefficient related with the hot fluid and the mass transfer velocity must be proportional to x −2/3, where x is the horizontal distance along the plate from the origin. Effects of the various parameters on the dimensionless longitudinal velocity, the temperature, the nanoparticle volume fraction, as well as on the rate of heat transfer and the rate of nanoparticle volume fraction have been presented graphically and discussed. It is found that Lewis number, the Brownian motion, and the convective heat transfer parameters increase the heat transfer rate whilst the thermophoresis decreases the heat transfer rate. It is also found that Lewis number and the convective heat transfer parameter enhance the nanoparticle volume fraction rate whilst the thermophoresis parameter decreases nanoparticle volume fraction rate. A very good agreement is found between numerical results of the present article for special case and published results. This close agreement supports the validity of our analysis and the accuracy of the numerical computations.  相似文献

A theoretical study is performed on heat and fluid flow in partially porous medium filled parallel plate channel. A uniform symmetrical heat flux is imposed onto the boundaries of the channel partially filled with porous medium. The dimensional forms of the governing equations are solved numerically for different permeability and effective thermal conductivity ratios. Then, the governing equations are made dimensionless and solved analytically. The results of two approaches are compared and an excellent agreement is observed, indicating correctness of the both solutions. An overall Nusselt number is defined based on overall thermal conductivity and difference between the average temperature of walls and mean temperature to compare heat transfer in different channels with different porous layer thickness, Darcy number, and thermal conductivity ratio. Moreover, individual Nusselt numbers for upper and lower walls are also defined and obtained. The obtained results show that the maximum overall Nusselt number is achieved for thermal conductivity ratio of 1. At specific values of Darcy number and thermal conductivity ratio, individual Nusselt numbers approach to infinity since the value of wall temperatures approaches to mean temperature.  相似文献

The TiO_2-water based nanofluid flow in a channel bounded by two porous plates under an oblique magnetic field and variable thermal conductivity is formulated as a boundary-value problem(BVP). The BVP is analytically solved with the homotopy analysis method(HAM). The result shows that the concentration of the nanoparticles is independent of the volume fraction of TiO_2 nanoparticles, the magnetic field intensity, and the angle. It is inversely proportional to the mass diffusivity. The fluid speed decreases whereas the temperature increases when the volume fraction of the TiO_2 nanoparticles increases. This confirms the fact that the occurrence of the TiO_2 nanoparticles results in the increase in the thermal transfer rate. The fluid speed decreases and the temperature increases for both the pure water and the nanofluid when the magnetic field intensity and angle increase. The maximum velocity does not exist at the middle of the symmetric channel, which is in contrast to the plane-Poiseuille flow, but it deviates a little bit towards the lower plate, which absorbs the fluid with a very low suction velocity. If this suction velocity is increased, the temperature in the vicinity of the lower plate will be increased. An explicit expression for the friction factor-Reynolds number is then developed. It is shown that the Hartmann number of the nanofluid is smaller than that of pure water, while the Nusselt number of the nanofluid is larger than that of pure water. However, both the parameters increase if the magnetic field intensity increases.  相似文献
