A method constructing symmetry-adapted bonded Young tableau bases is proposed, based on the symmetry properties of bonded tableaus and the projection operator associated with a point group. Several examples including the ground states and π excited states of O3, O3, O3+, and C3 are shown for instruction to construct the symmetrized valence bond (VB) wave function. Excitation energies of transitions from the ground states to π excited states of O3, C3H5, and C3 are calculated with an optimized symmetrized valence bond wave function in the σ–π separation approximation. Good agreement between the VB and experimental excitation energies is observed. The bonding features of the ground state and the first π excited singlet and triplet states for S3 are discussed according to bonding populations from VB calculations. Both the singlet-biradical and the dipole structures have significant contributions to the ground state X 1A1 of S3, while the excited state 1 1B2 is essentially composed of the dipole structures, and the 1 3B2 excited state is comprised from a triplet-biradical structure. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Multireference perturbation theory with complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) reference functions is applied to the study of the valence π→π* excited states of 1,3-butadiene, 1,3,5-hexatriene, 1,3,5,7-octatetraene, and 1,3,5,7,9-decapentaene. Our focus was put on determining the nature of the two lowest-lying singlet excited states, 11Bu+ and 21Ag, and their ordering. The 11Bu+ state is a singly excited state with an ionic nature originating from the HOMO→LUMO one-electron transition while the covalent 21Ag state is the doubly excited state which comes mainly from the (HOMO)2→(LUMO)2 transition. The active-space and basis-set effects are taken into account to estimate the excitation energies of larger polyenes. For butadiene, the 11Bu+ state is calculated to be slightly lower by 0.1 eV than the doubly excited 21Ag state at the ground-state equilibrium geometry. For hexatriene, our calculations predict the two states to be virtually degenerate. Octatetraene is the first polyene for which we predict that the 21Ag state is the lowest excited singlet state at the ground-state geometry. The present theory also indicates that the 21Ag state lies clearly below the 11Bu+ state in decapentaene with the energy gap of 0.4 eV. The 0–0 transition and the emission energies are also calculated using the planar C2h relaxed excited-state geometries. The covalent 21Ag state is much more sensitive to the geometry variation than is the ionic 11Bu+ state, which places the 21Ag state significantly below the 11Bu+ state at the relaxed geometry. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The ground- and excited-state properties of both [Ru(bz)2]2+ and crystalline bis(η6-benzene)ruthenium(II) p-toluenesulfonate are investigated using the density functional theory. A symmetry-based technique is employed to calculate the energies of the multiplet structure splitting of the singly excited triplet states. For the crystalline system, a Buckingham potential is introduced to describe the intermolecular interactions between the [Ru(bz)2]2+ system and its first shell of neighbor molecules. The overall agreement between experimental and calculated ground- and excited-state properties is good, as far as the absolute transition energies, the Stokes shift, and the geometry of the excited states are concerned. The calculated d-d excitation energies of the isolated cluster are typically 1000–2000 cm−1 too low. An energy lowering is obtained in a1ge1g(3E1g) excited state when the geometry of [Ru(bz)2]2+ is bent along the e1u Renner–Teller active coordinate. It vanishes as the crystal packing is taken into account. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Comput Chem 20: 1343–1353, 1999  相似文献

The far infrared spectra from 300 to 50 cm−1 of methyl nitrate, CH3ONO2, and methyl-d3 nitrate, CD3NO2, have been recorded at a resolution of 0.12 cm−1. The fundamental methyl torsional mode has been observed at 204.5 cm−1 (154.2 cm−1 for CD3ONO2) with two excited states falling to lower frequencies which gives a V3 barrier of 980 ± 40 cm−1 (2.80 ± 0.11 kcal/mol). The NO2 torsion (methoxy) has been observed with the 1 ← 0 transition being at 133.7 cm−1 (119.5 cm−1 for CD3ONO2) and eight successive excited states falling to lower frequencies. From these data the twofold barrier to internal rotation has been calculated to be 2650 ± 75 cm−1 (7.69 ± 0.21 kcal/mol).  相似文献

Thioxanthone–anthracene‐9‐carboxylic acid (TX‐ANCA) namely 14‐oxo‐14H‐naphthol [2,3‐b]thioxanten‐12‐carboxylic acid, is synthesized and characterized as part of our continuing interest for syntheses of polyaromatic initiators. Photoinitiator, TX‐ANCA have good absorption properties in the UV and visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum (ɛ370: 9080 M−1cm−1, ɛ430: 6151 M−1 cm−1). The fluorescence quantum yield is calculated as 0.1 which is slightly higher than of the parent thioxanthone compound (φf: 0.07). The phosphorescence lifetime is found to be 39 ms. The possible initiating mechanism of TX‐ANCA is based on photoexcitation of TX‐ANCA and quenching of triplet excited states of TX‐ANCA by molecular oxygen generates singlet oxygen. Singlet oxygen reacts with the anthracene moiety of TX‐ANCA possibly forms an endoperoxide. The endoperoxides undergoes photochemical or thermal decomposition to form radicals which are able to initiate free radical polymerization. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The chromium(III) complex [Cr(ddpd)2][BF4]3 shows two spin-flip emission bands in the near-infrared spectral region. These bands shift bathochromically by −14.1 and −7.7 cm−1 kbar−1 under hydrostatic pressure (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2018 , 57, 11069). The present study elucidates the structural changes of the chromium(III) cations under pressure using density functional theory with periodic boundary conditions and the resulting effects on the excited state energies using high-level CASSCF-NEVPT2 calculations. The differences of the bands in pressure sensitivity are traced back to a different orbital occupation of the intraconfigurational excited states.  相似文献

Summary The dipole and quadrupole moments and the dipole polarizability tensor components are calculated for the1 B 1 and3 B 1 excited states of the water molecule by using the complete active space (CAS) SCF method and an extended basis set of atomic natural orbitals. The dipole moment in the lowest1 B 1 (0.640 a.u.) and3 B 1 (0.416 a.u.) states is found to be antiparallel to that in the ground electronic state of H2O. The shape of the quadrupole moment ellipsoid is significantly modified by the electronic excitation to both states investigated in this paper. All components of the excited state dipole polarizability tensor increase by about an order of magnitude compared to their values in the ground electronic state. The present results are used to discuss some aspects of intermolecular interactions involving molecules in their excited electronic states.  相似文献

Extensive time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) and DFT/multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations are performed on the singlet and triplet excited states of free-base porphyrin, with emphasis on intersystem crossing processes. The equilibrium geometries, as well as the vertical and adiabatic excitation energies of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states are determined. Single and double proton-transfer reactions in the first excited singlet state are explored. Harmonic vibrational frequencies are calculated at the equilibrium geometries of the ground state and of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states. Furthermore, spin–orbit coupling matrix elements of the lowest singlet and triplet states and their numerical derivatives with respect to nuclear displacements are computed. It is shown that opening of an unprotonated pyrrole ring as well as excited-state single and double proton transfer inside the porphyrin cavity lead to crossings of the potential energy curves of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states. It is also found that displacements along out-of-plane normal modes of the first excited singlet state cause a significant increase of the 2|Hso|S1>, 1|Hso|S1>, and 1|Hso|S0> spin–orbit coupling matrix elements. These phenomena lead to efficient radiationless deactivation of the lowest excited states of free-base porphyrin via intercombination conversion. In particular, the S1→T1 population transfer is found to proceed at a rate of ≈107 s−1 in the isolated molecule.  相似文献

The far-infrared spectra of gaseous and solid ethyl nitrate, CH3CH2ONO2, have been recorded from 500 to 50 cm−1. The fundamental asymmetric torsion of the trans conformer which has a heavy atom plane has been observed at 112.50 cm−1 with two excited states failing to lower frequencies, and the corresponding fundamental torsion of the gauche conformer was observed at 109.62 cm−1 with two excited states also falling to lower frequencies. The results of a variable temperature Raman study indicate that the trans conformer is more stable than the gauche conformer by 328 ± 96 cm−1 (938 ± 275 cal mol−1). An asymmetric potential function governing the internal rotation about the CH2O bond is reported which gives a trans to gauche barrier of 894 ± 15 cm−1 (2.56 ± 0.04 kcal mol−1) and a gauche to gauche barrier of 3063 ± 68 cm−1 (8.76 ± 0.20 kcal mol−1) with the trans conformer more stable by 220 ± 148 cm−1 (0.63 ± 0.42 kcal mol−1). Transitions arising from the symmetric CH3 and NO2 torsions are observed for both conformers, from which the threefold and twofold periodic barriers to internal rotation have been calculated. For the trans conformer the values are 1002 cm−1 (2.87 kcal mol−1) and 2355 ± 145 cm−1 (6.73 ± 0.42 kcal mol−1) and for the gauche conformer they are 981 cm−1 (2.81 kcal mol−1) and 2736 ± 632 cm−1 (7.82 ± 1.81 kcal mol−1) for the CH3 and NO2 rotors, respectively. These results are compared to the corresponding quantities for some similar molecules.  相似文献

Multichromophoric systems based on a RuII polypyridine moiety containing an additional organic chromophore are of increasing interest with respect to different light-driven applications. Here, we present the synthesis and detailed characterization of a novel RuII photosensitizer, namely [(tbbpy)2Ru((2-(perylen-3-yl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]-phenanthrolline))](PF6)2 RuipPer , that includes a merged perylene dye in the back of the ip ligand. This complex features two emissive excited states as well as a long-lived (8 μs) dark state in acetonitrile solution. Compared to prototype [(bpy)3Ru]2+-like complexes, a strongly altered absorption (ϵ=50.3×103 M−1 cm−1 at 467 nm) and emission behavior caused by the introduction of the perylene unit is found. A combination of spectro-electrochemistry and time-resolved spectroscopy was used to elucidate the nature of the excited states. Finally, this photosensitizer was successfully used for the efficient formation of reactive singlet oxygen.  相似文献

The photophysical and photochemical properties of (OC‐6‐33)‐(2,2′‐bipyridine‐κN1,κN1′)tricarbonyl(9,10‐dihydro‐9,10‐dioxoanthracene‐2‐carboxylato‐κO)rhenium (fac‐[ReI(aq‐2‐CO2)(2,2′‐bipy)(CO)3]) were investigated and compared to those of the free ligand 9,10‐dihydro‐9,10‐dioxoanthracene‐2‐carboxylate (=anthraquinone‐2‐carboxylate) and other carboxylato complexes containing the (2,2′‐bipyridine)tricarbonylrhenium ([Re(2,2′‐bipy)(CO)3]) moiety. Flash and steady‐state irradiations of the anthraquinone‐derived ligand (λexc 337 or 351 nm) and of its complex reveal that the photophysics of the latter is dominated by processes initiated in the Re‐to‐(2,2′‐bipyridine) charge‐transfer excited state and 2,2′‐bipyridine‐ and (anthraquinone‐2‐carboxylato)‐centered intraligand excited states. In the reductive quenching by N,N‐diethylethanamine (TEA) or 2,2′,2″‐nitrilotris[ethanol] TEOA, the reactive states are the 2,2′‐bipyridine‐centered and/or the charge‐transfer excited states. The species with a reduced anthraquinone moiety is formed by the following intramolecular electron transfer, after the redox quenching of the excited state: [ReI(aq−2−CO2)(2,2′‐bipy.)(CO)3]⇌[ReI(aq−2−CO2.)(2,2′‐bipy)(CO)3] The photophysics, particularly the absence of a ReI‐to‐anthraquinone charge‐transfer excited state photochemistry, is discussed in terms of the electrochemical and photochemical results.  相似文献

The far-IR spectrum from 375 to 30 cm−1 of gaseous 3-chloro-2-methylpropene, CH2=C(CH3)CH2Cl, has been recorded at a resolution of 0.10 cm−1. The fundamental asymmetric torsional mode for the gauche conformer is observed at 84.3 cm−1 with three excited states falling to lower frequency. For the higher energy s-cis conformer, where the chlorine atom eclipses the double bond, the asymmetric torsion is observed at 81.3 cm−1 with two excited states falling to lower frequency. Utilizing the s-cis and gauche torsional frequencies, the gauche dihedral angle and the enthalpy difference between conformers, the potential function governing the interconversion of the rotamers has been calculated. The determined potential function coefficients are (in reciprocal centimeters): V1=189±12, V2=−358±11, V3=886±2 and V4=−12±2 with an enthalpy difference between the more stable gauche and s-cis conformers of 150 ±25 cm−1 (430 ± 71 cal mol−1). This function gives values of 661 cm−1 (1.89 kcal mol−1), 1226 cm−1 (3.51 kcal mol−1) and 812 cm−1 (2.32 kcal mol−1), for the s-cis to gauche, gauche to gauche, and gauche to s-cis barriers, respectively. From the methyl torsional frequency of 170 cm−1 for the gauche conformer, the threefold barrier of 678 cm−1 (1.94 kcal mol−1) has been calculated. The asymmetric potential function, conformational energy difference and optimized geometries of both conformers have also been obtained from ab initio calculations with both the 3–21G* and 6–31G* basis sets. A normal-coordinate analysis has also been performed with a force field determined from the 3–21G* basis set. These data are compared with the corresponding data for some similar molecules.  相似文献

A pulse radiolysis study of poly(methyl methacrylate) in the presence of pyrene has been carried out in the temperature range 100–295 K. The concentration of pyrene was changed from 10−3 to 10−1 mol dm−3. The absorption/emission spectra and kinetics of solute excited states and solute radical ions were investigated. It was found that pyrene excited states were formed as a result of their radical ion recombination in a time scale up to seconds. The decay of solute radical ions was influenced by photobleaching and can be described by a time-dependent rate constant. The activation energy of Py ions decay was temperature dependent and was equal to 35.7 and 1.2 kJ/mol for temperatures >Tγ and <Tγ, respectively, where Tγ ∼ 175 K represented the transition temperature responsible for γ-relaxation. The reaction mechanism was proposed. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 1209–1215, 1998  相似文献

Matrix isolation IR spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations were jointly used to identify the system of bands related to Ni3 clusters. The positions of two low-lying electronic states were determined, and vibrational frequencies and geometry in the ground and excited states were estimated. In all the calculated states, Ni3 had the structure of an isosceles triangle. In the X 3 B 2 ground and a 3 B 1 lower excited states, this was an acute-angled triangle. In the b 3 B 2 and c 3 B 1 excited states, the triangle was obtuse-angled.  相似文献

Photophysical properties in dilute MeCN solution are reported for seven RuII complexes containing two 2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy) ligands and different third ligands, six of which contain a variety of 4,4′‐carboxamide‐disubstituted 2,2′‐bipyridines, for one complex containing no 2,2′‐bipyridine, but 2 of these different ligands, for three multinuclear RuII complexes containing 2 or 4 [Ru(bpy)2] moieties and also coordinated via 4,4′‐carboxamide‐disubstituted 2,2′‐bipyridine ligands, and for the complex [(Ru(bpy)2(L)]2+ where L is N,N′‐([2,2′‐bipyridine]‐4,4′‐diyl)bis[3‐methoxypropanamide]. Absorption maxima are red‐shifted with respect to [Ru(bpy)3]2+, as are phosphorescence maxima which vary from 622 to 656 nm. The lifetimes of the lowest excited triplet metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer states 3MLCT in de‐aerated MeCN are equal to or longer than for [Ru(bpy)3]2+ and vary considerably, i.e., from 0.86 to 1.71 μs. Rate constants kq for quenching by O2 of the 3MLCT states were measured and found to be well below diffusion‐controlled, ranging from 1.2 to 2.0⋅109 dm3 mol−1 s−1. The efficiencies f of singlet‐oxygen formation during oxygen quenching of these 3MLCT states are relatively high, namely 0.53 – 0.89. The product of kq and f gives the net rate constant k for quenching due to energy transfer to produce singlet oxygen, and kqk equals k, the net rate constant for quenching due to energy dissipation of the excited 3MLCT states without energy transfer. The quenching rate constants were both found to correlate with ΔGCT, the free‐energy change for charge transfer from the excited Ru complex to oxygen, and the relative and absolute values of these rate constants are discussed.  相似文献

Large separations between ground and excited magnetic states in single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are desirable to reduce the likelihood of spin reversal in the molecules. Spin-phonon coupling is a process leading to magnetic relaxation. Both the reversal and coupling, making SMMs lose magnetic moments, are undesirable. However, direct determination of large magnetic states separations (>45 cm−1) is challenging, and few detailed investigations of the spin-phonon coupling have been conducted. The magnetic separation in [Co(12-crown-4)2](I3)2(12-crown-4) ( 1 ) is determined and its spin-phonon coupling is probed by inelastic neutron scattering (INS) and far-IR spectroscopy. INS, using oriented single crystals, shows a magnetic transition at 49.4(1.0) cm−1. Far-IR reveals that the magnetic transition and nearby phonons are coupled, a rarely observed phenomenon, with spin-phonon coupling constants of 1.7–2.5 cm−1. The current work spectroscopically determines the ground–excited magnetic states separation in an SMM and quantifies its spin-phonon coupling, shedding light on the process causing magnetic relaxation.  相似文献

The two molecular triads 1a and 1b consisting of a porphyrin (P) covalently linked to a fullerene (C60) electron acceptor and tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) electron‐donor moiety were synthesized, and their photochemical properties were determined by transient absorption and emission techniques. Excitation of the free‐base‐porphyrin moiety of the TTF−P2 H−C60 triad 1a in tetrahydro‐2‐methylfuran solution yields the porphyrin first excited singlet state TTF−1P2 H−C60, which undergoes photoinduced electron transfer with a time constant of 25 ps to give TTF−P2 H.+−C60.−. This intermediate charge‐separated state has a lifetime of 230 ps, decaying mainly by a charge‐shift reaction to yield a final state, TTF.+−P2 H−C60.−. The final state has a lifetime of 660 ns, is formed with an overall yield of 92%, and preserves ca. 1.0 eV of the 1.9 eV inherent in the porphyrin excited state. Similar behavior is observed for the zinc analog 1b . The TTF‐PZn.+−C60.− state is formed by ultrafast electron transfer from the porphyrinatozinc excited singlet state with a time constant of 1.5 ps. The final TTF.+−PZn−C60.− state is generated with a yield of 16%, and also has a lifetime of 660 ns. Although charge recombination to yield a triplet has been observed in related donor‐acceptor systems, the TTF.+−P−C60.− states recombine to the ground state, because the molecule lacks low‐energy triplet states. This structural feature leads to a longer lifetime for the final charge‐separated state, during which the stored energy could be harvested for solar‐energy conversion or molecular optoelectronic applications.  相似文献

The interaction between the ground and excited states of 1,4-bis[2-(5-phenyloxazolyl)]-benzene and bromomethanes such as CBr4, CHBr3 and CH2Br2 were investigated in benzene. Distinct complex formation was not observed either in the ground state or in the excited states. The excited singlet and triplet states are deactivated by these bromomethanes. The triplet yield is increased on the addition of CHBr3 or CH2Br2, whereas it is decreased on the addition of CBr4. The fluorescence quenching rate constants kq at 23 °C were determined to be 1.6 × 1010 M−1 s−1, 3.6 × 108M−1s−1 and 2.4 × 107M−1s−1 for CBr4, CHBr3 and CH2Br2 respectively. The rate constants kST′ of the enhanced intersystem crossing associated with the fluorescence quenching were evaluated from emission—absorption flash photolysis experiments as 3.0 × 108 M−1s−1, 1.9 × 108 M−1s−1 and 5.1 × 107 M−1s−1 for CBr4, CHBr3 and CH2Br2 respectively. kST′ increases with increasing number of bromine atoms contained in the quencher, so that the enhanced intersystem crossing is due to the external heavy-atom effect of the quencher. The apparent triplet yield for the quenching system depends not only on kST′ but also on the rates of the other non-radiative processes. This is the reason why the apparent triplet yield does not necessarily increase on fluorescence quenching by bromomethanes.  相似文献

Polarized absorption spectra of neat single-crystal [Ru(bpy)3](PF6)2 at 300 and 5 K are presented. The spectra show pronounced vibronic structure and it is possible to assign the vibrations to known Raman frequencies. Furthermore, the different electronic states corresponding to the vibronic transitions are identified and assigned. The assignment of the lowest excited states - observed in absorption - agrees with an earlier classification of the emitting states. In particular, the Ec-polarized transition A'1 ⇌ 2E' (classified in D'3), at 17816 cm−1, is found at the same energy (experimental error: ± 1 cm−1) in emission and absorption and represents a zero-phonon, zero-vibron transition. The low-energy part of the E¦¦c-polarized spectrum (below ≈ 24000 cm−1) is not dominated by a series of different electronic states but by a 1600 cm−1 progression with zero-vibron transition at 18770 cm−1.  相似文献
