The BFKL and the unified angular-ordered equations are solved to determine the gluon distribution at smallx. The impact of kinematic constraints is investigated. Predictions are made for observables sensitive to the gluon at smallx. In particular comparison is made with measurements at the HERA electron-proton collider of the proton structure functionF 2(x, Q 2) as a function of lnQ 2, the charm componentF c 2 (X, Q 2) and diffractiveJ/Ψ photoproduction.  相似文献

At HERA energies the smallx region (x?10?2) can be explored atQ 2 values large enough that leading twist QCD calculations are valid. We show how measurement of the longitudinal structure function,F L (x,Q 2), can lead to accurate measurement of the gluon structure function at such smallx values. Experimental systematic errors are discussed fully and requirements for the measurement outlined. We conclude that it should be possible to distinguish between the widely varying gluon distributions which are currently allowed.  相似文献

The gluon and quark distributions of the nucleon are evaluated using the Altarelli-Parisi equations with the input distributions atQ 0 2 =5 GeV2 for seaquarks and gluons modified by the factor (ax ?0.5+b). The new parametrization is constrained to satisfy the momentum sum rule and after backward evolution (fromQ 0 2 =5 GeV2 toQ 2=1 GeV2) it is also constrained to give approximately 1/x behaviour of the sea-quark and gluon distributions in the limited region of smallx (10?3<x<10?2 or so). The theoretical predictions relevant for HERA for structure functionsF 2(x, Q 2) andF L (x, Q 2) in the region of very smallx(10?4<x<10?2) and largeQ 2 and for the cross-sectionσ* pΨX) are presented. Distributions of heavy quarks (c,b,t) are also discussed.  相似文献

It is demonstrated that recent measurements of ∫10F2(x, Q2)dx eliminate already all strong interaction field theories except QCD. A detailed study of scaling violations of F2(x, Q2) in QCD shows their insensitivity to the gluon content of the hadron at presently measured values of Q2.  相似文献

We analyze the perturbative and parametric stability of the QCD predictions for the Callan–Gross ratio, R(x,Q 2)=F L /F T , in heavy-quark leptoproduction. We consider the radiative corrections to the dominant photon–gluon fusion mechanism. In various kinematic regions, the following contributions are investigated: exact NLO results at low and moderate Q 2m 2, asymptotic NLO predictions at high Q 2m 2, and both NLO and NNLO soft-gluon (or threshold) corrections at large Bjorken variable x. Our analysis shows that large radiative corrections to the structure functions F T (x,Q 2) and F L (x,Q 2) cancel each other in their ratio R(x,Q 2) with good accuracy. As a result, the NLO contributions to the Callan–Gross ratio are less than 10% in a wide region of the variables x and Q 2. We provide compact LO predictions for R(x,Q 2) in the case of low x 1. A simple formula connecting the high-energy behavior of the Callan–Gross ratio and low-x asymptotics of the gluon density is derived. It is shown that the obtained hadron-level predictions for R(x→0,Q 2) are stable under the DGLAP evolution of the gluon distribution function. Our analytic results simplify the extraction of the structure functions F 2 c (x,Q 2) and F 2 b (x,Q 2) from measurements of the corresponding reduced cross sections, in particular at DESY HERA.  相似文献

The gluon distributions in a proton are calculated in the region of smallx (10?4?x?10?2) and largeQ 2 taking into account the corrections which correspond to the sum of the leading powers of log 1/x beyond the leading logQ 2 approximation. It is shown that they become significant for very small values ofx only provided however that the non-leading terms in the limit of smallx are also consistently included. The leading log 1/x approximation gives the gluon distributions which can differ by a factor of 2 from their leading logQ 2 counterpart.  相似文献

We obtain a relation between the longitudinal structure function F L(x, Q 2), F 2(x, Q 2) and G(x, Q 2) at small x, using the formalism recently reported by one of the authors [2]. We also obtain a relation between F L(x, Q 2), F 2(x, Q 2) and its slope (dF 2(x, Q 2))/(dlnQ 2). This provides us with the determination of the longitudinal structure function F L(x, Q 2) from F 2(x, Q 2) data and hence extract the gluon distribution G(x, Q 2).  相似文献

We present parametrizations for the proton structure functionF 2 in the next to leading order in perturbative QCD. We consider that the dominant term toF 2(x, Q 2) should grow asx s for smallx values, with the exponentλ S being essentially independent ofQ 2. Comparisons with the most recent H1 and ZEUS data confirm the valueλ S ~0.35 obtained previously from fits to low energy data.  相似文献

The differential gluon structure function of the proton, ?(x, Q 2), introduced by Fadin, Kuraev, and Lipatov in 1975 is extensively used in small-x QCD. We report here the first determination of ?(x, Q 2) from experimental data on the small-x proton structure function F 2p (x, Q 2). We give convenient parametrizations for ?(x, Q 2) based partly on the available DGLAP evolution fits (GRV, CTEQ, and MRS) to parton distribution functions and on realistic extrapolations into the soft region. We discuss the impact of soft gluons on various observables. The x dependence of the so-determined ?(x, Q 2) varies strongly with Q 2 and does not exhibit simple Regge properties. Nonetheless, the hard-to-soft diffusion is found to give rise to a viable approximation of the proton structure function F 2p (x, Q 2) by the soft and hard Regge components with intercepts Δsoft=0 and Δhard ~ 0.4.  相似文献

The parton distributions of the nucleon are evaluated dynamically using the assumption that at some low resolution scale the nucleon consists entirely of valence quarks. A simple parametrization of the resulting gluon distribution is presented, forx? 10?5 up toQ 2?106 GeV2. This gluon distribution is predicted dicted to be much steeper and larger in the very smallx region (x<10?2) than usually assumed. Applications to deep inelastic scaling violations and heavy quark (c, b, t) contribution are discussed and presented as well as hadronic heavy quark production at SSC/LHC energies. For example, the \(b\bar b\) production rate at 40 TeV is predicted to be about an order of magnitude larger than that estimated with other gluon distributions so far.  相似文献

I present a theoretical discussion of the uncertainties related to the QCD analysis of the proton structure function F 2(x,Q 2) at small x. The role played by the ‘unphysical’ gluon density is pointed out. It is shown how the study of more observables can reduce the theoretical uncertainty and, in particular, an alternative method of analysis, based on the introduction of physical anomalous dimensions, is suggested.  相似文献

Using recent data on deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering an attempt is made to extract the gluon distributionG(x, Q 2=4 GeV2) from the observed scaling violations of structure functions. The accuracy of the data allows only for a rough determination of the gluon distribution. In particular it is found that a hard gluon distributionis consistent with present measurements. Implications of the hard gluon distribution for charm production in the gluon fusion model and for the perturbative contributions to σ L T are further discussed. Finally, analytic parametrizations of the QCDx- andQ 2-dependence of quark and gluon distributions are presented facilitating further possible applications.  相似文献

We obtain a solution of the DGLAP equation for the gluon at low x first by expanding the gluon in a Taylor series and then using the method of characteristics. We test its validity by comparing it with that of Glück, Reya and Vogt. The convergence criteria of the approximation used are also discussed. We also calculate εF 2(x,Q)2/ε In Q 2 using its approximate relations with the gluon distribution at low x. The predictions are then compared with the HERA data.  相似文献

We study the accuracy of the Regge behavior of the gluon distribution function for an approximate relation that is frequently used to extract the logarithmic slopes of the structure function from the gluon distribution at small x. We show that the Regge behavior analysis results are comparable with HERA data and are also better than other methods that expand the gluon density at distinct points of expansion. We also show that for Q 2 = 22.4 GeV2, the x dependence of the data is well described by gluon shadowing corrections to the GLR-MQ equation. The resulting analytic expression allows us to predict the logarithmic derivative ∂F 2(x, Q 2)/∂lnQ 2 and to compare the results with the H1 data and a QCD analysis fit with the MRST parameterization input.  相似文献

We calculate twist-4 coefficient functions for the deep inelastic structure function F2(x,Q2) associated to 4-gluon operator matrix elements for general values of the Bjorken variable x and study the numerical effect on the slope ∂F2(x,Q2)/logQ2. It is shown that these contributions diminish the strongly rising twist-2 terms towards small values of x.  相似文献

We consider influence of gluon shadowing effects on the proton structure function in the smallx interval. These effects are noticeable in the HERA kinematical region. The explicit form of the gluon distribution in the proton depend significantly on the form of used boundary condition atQ 2=Q 0 2 . We consider also difference of results obtained with the help of Kuraev-Lipatov-Fadin and Altarelli-Parisi evolution equations.  相似文献

The longitudinal structure function in deep-inelastic scattering is one of the observables from which the gluon distribution can be unfolded. Consequently, this observable can be used to constrain the QCD dynamics at small x. In this work we compare the predictions of distinct QCD models with the recent experimental results for F L(x,Q 2) at small x and low Q 2 obtained by the H1 Collaboration. We focus mainly on the color dipole approach, selecting those models which include saturation effects. Such models are suitable at this kinematical region and also resum a wide class of higher-twist contributions to the observables. Therefore, we investigate the influence of these corrections to F L in the present region of interest.Received: 23 June 2004, Revised: 13 July 2004, Published online: 14 September 2004  相似文献

Gluon distributions in real and virtual photons are calculated using evolution equations in the NLO approximation. The quark distributions in the photon determined on the basis of the QCD sum rule approach in [1] are taken as an input. It is shown that gluon distribution in the photon can be reliably determined up tox=0.03÷0.05, much lower than the corresponding values in the case of quark distributions. Two variants of the calculations are considered: (1) it is assumed that there are no intrinsic gluons in the photon at some low normalization pointQ 2=Q 0 2 ∼1GeV2; (2) it is assumed that gluonic content of the photon at lowQ 0 2 is described by gluonic content of vector mesonsρ, ω, ϕ. The gluon distributions in these two variants appear to be different. This fact permits one to clarify the origin of nonperturbative gluonic content of the photon by comparing the results with experiment. Structure functionsF 2(x) for real and virtual photon are calculated and it is shown that in the regionx≥0.2 where QCD approach is valid, there is a good agreement with experiment.  相似文献

Total neutrino and antineutrino cross sections in the energy range 15 to 150 GeV, and the nucleon structure functions, F2(x, Q2) and xF3(x, Q2) in the Q2 range 0.5 to 50 (GeV/c)2 have been measured using a data sample of 3000 neutrino and 3800 antineutrino events. The structure functions show a weak Q2 dependence at different x values.  相似文献
