It is known that the variety of the pairs of n×n commuting upper triangular matrices is not a complete intersection for infinitely many values of n; we show that there exists m such that this happens if and only if n>m. We also show that m<18 and that m could be found by determining the dimension of the variety of the pairs of commuting strictly upper triangular matrices. Then, we define an embedding of any commuting variety into a grassmannian of subspaces of codimension 2.  相似文献

Let F be a field, T n (F) (respectively, N n (F)) the matrix algebra consisting of all n × n upper triangular matrices (respectively, strictly upper triangular matrices) over F. AT n (F) is said to be square zero if A 2 = 0. In this article, we firstly characterize non-singular linear maps on N n (F) preserving square-zero matrices in both directions, then by using it we determine non-singular linear maps on T n (F) preserving square-zero matrices in both directions.  相似文献

Let k be an algebraically closed field and A the polynomial algebra in r variables with coefficients in k. In case the characteristic of k is 2, Carlsson [9] conjectured that for any DG-A-module M of dimension N as a free A-module, if the homology of M is nontrivial and finite dimensional as a k-vector space, then 2rN. Here we state a stronger conjecture about varieties of square-zero upper triangular N×N matrices with entries in A. Using stratifications of these varieties via Borel orbits, we show that the stronger conjecture holds when N<8 or r<3 without any restriction on the characteristic of k. As a consequence, we obtain a new proof for many of the known cases of Carlsson's conjecture and give new results when N>4 and r=2.  相似文献

By considering the factorizations (flags) and associated (simultaneous) second order Darboux transformations of the square and cube of an arbitrary second order Schrödinger operator, we generate commuting ordinary differential operators of orders four and six with a singular elliptic spectrum. This procedure generates true rank 2 commutative algebras. Under the KdV flow, each such factorization (flag) leads to an integrable equation for which the corresponding Darboux transformation generates a Lax-type operator as one of a commuting pair of orders four and six with singular elliptic spectrum. Hence, these integrable equations are Darboux conjugates of KdV.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive a new explicit formula for r 32(n), where r k(n) is the number of representations of n as a sum of k squares. For a fixed integer k, our method can be used to derive explicit formulas for r 8k (n). We show that for any two n × n square-zero matrices A and B over a division ring, if the right column spaces of AB and BA are the same, then the rank of AB is at most n/4, and if, in addition, the right null spaces of AB and BA are the same, then the rank of A + B is at most n/2. Let , be bounded operators on a Banach space with -congruence-free spectra such that . E. M. E. Wermuth has shown that . Ch. Schmoeger later established this result, using inner derivations and, in a second paper, has shown that: for in a complex unital Banach algebra, if the spectrum of is -congruence-free and , then (and thus, answering an open problem raised by E. M. E. Wermuth). In this paper we use the holomorphic functional calculus to give alternative simple proofs of both of these results. Moreover, we use the Borel functional calculus to give new proofs of recent results of Ch. Schmoeger concerning normal operator exponentials on a complex Hilbert space, under a weaker hypothesis on the spectra.

Consider arbitrary elements. We characterize those functions that decompose into the sum of -periodic functions, i.e., with . We show that has such a decomposition if and only if for all partitions with consisting of commensurable elements with least common multiples one has .

Actually, we prove a more general result for periodic decompositions of functions defined on an Abelian group ; in fact, we even consider invariant decompositions of functions with respect to commuting, invertible self-mappings of some abstract set .

We also extend our results to functions between torsion free Abelian groups. As a corollary we also obtain that on a torsion free Abelian group the existence of a real-valued periodic decomposition of an integer-valued function implies the existence of an integer-valued periodic decomposition with the same periods.
