On the spectral character of Toeplitz operators on planar regions

Self-adjoint Toeplitz operators on multiply connected planar regions are investigated using theta functions on the double. An explicit resolvent form for self-adjoint Toeplitz operators on a Hardy space associated with any representing measure on a -holed planar region is given via reproducing kernels in terms of theta functions on . This resolvent formula is a generalization of an analogous formula obtained by K. F. Clancey (1991) for the case of harmonic measure. Applications of this resolvent form to the spectral type of the self-adjoint Toeplitz operators are described.

     

On operators which commute with analytic Toeplitz operators modulo the finite rank operators

It is shown that an operator on the Hardy space (or ) commutes with all analytic Toeplitz operators modulo the finite rank operators if and only if . Here is a finite rank operator, and in the case , is a sum of a rational function and a bounded analytic function, and in the case , is a bounded analytic function.

与调和Bergman 空间相对应, 本文研究重调和Hardy 空间h²(D²) 上的Toeplitz 算子. 本文发现, h²(D²) 上的Toeplitz 算子与经典的Hardy 空间、Bergman 空间及调和Bergman 空间上的Toeplitz算子的性质都有很大的差异. 例如解析Toeplitz 算子可以不是半可换及可交换的. 即使半可换, 其中任何一个符号可以不为常数; 即使可交换, 两个符号的非平凡线性组合也不一定是常数. 本文得到了h²(D²) 上两个解析Toeplitz 算子半可换和可换的充分必要条件.     

Symbols of truncated Toeplitz operators

We consider three topics connected with coinvariant subspaces of the backward shift operator in Hardy spaces Hp:

properties of truncated Toeplitz operators;

Carleson-type embedding theorems for the coinvariant subspaces;

factorizations of pseudocontinuable functions from H¹.

These problems turn out to be closely connected and even, in a sense, equivalent. The new approach based on the factorizations allows us to answer a number of challenging questions about truncated Toeplitz operators posed by D. Sarason.     

Toeplitz operators on H~2(iR)

In this paper,the essential spectra of Toeplitz operators is discussed,and the K-theory of the Toeplitz algebra generated by {Tφ|φ∈C(iR)} is computed.In addition,the characteristic equation of Toeplitz operators is obtained and the algebraic properties of Toeplitz operators are discussed.     

Commuting Toeplitz operators on the polydisk

We obtain characterizations of (essentially) commuting Toeplitz operators with pluriharmonic symbols on the Bergman space of the polydisk. We show that commuting and essential commuting properties are the same for dimensions bigger than 2, while they are not for dimensions less than or equal to 2. Also, the corresponding results for semi-commutators are obtained.

     

Commuting Toeplitz operators with pluriharmonic symbols

By making use of -harmonic function theory, we characterize commuting Toeplitz operators with bounded pluriharmonic symbols on the Bergman space of the unit ball or on the Hardy space of the unit sphere in -dimensional complex space.

     

Commuting dual Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Dirichlet space

In this paper,we characterize the symbols for(semi-)commuting dual Toeplitz operators on the orthogonal complement of the harmonic Dirichlet space.We show that for φ,ψ∈W~(1,∞),S_φS_ψ=S_ψ Sφ on(D_h)~⊥ if and only if φ and ψ satisfy one of the following conditions:(1) Both φ and ψ are harmonic functions;(2) There exist complex constants α and β,not both 0,such that φ=αψ +β.     

Toeplitz operators on the polydisk

In this paper it is shown that two analytic Toeplitz operators essentially doubly commute if and only if they doubly commute on the Bergman space of the polydisk.

     

On quasi-similarity of subnormal operators

For a compact subset K in the complex plane, let Rat(K) denote the set of the rational functions with poles off K. Given a finite positive measure with support contained in K, let R2(K,v) denote the closure of Rat(K) in L2(v) and let Sv denote the operator of multiplication by the independent variable z on R2(K, v), that is, Svf = zf for every f∈R2(K, v). SupposeΩis a bounded open subset in the complex plane whose complement has finitely many components and suppose Rat(Ω) is dense in the Hardy space H2(Ω). Letσdenote a harmonic measure forΩ. In this work, we characterize all subnormal operators quasi-similar to Sσ, the operators of the multiplication by z on R2(Ω,σ). We show that for a given v supported onΩ, Sv is quasi-similar to Sσif and only if v/■Ω■σ and log(dv/dσ)∈L1(σ). Our result extends a well-known result of Clary on the unit disk.

Compact Toeplitz operators on the Segal-Bargmann space

In this note, we show that Miao and Zheng's characterization of compact operators on the Bergman space of the unit disk that are finite sums of finite products of Toeplitz operators (with each one of the symbols belonging to BT) also holds for the Segal-Bargmann space of Cn.     

Finite rank Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space

Given a complex Borel measure with compact support in the complex plane the sesquilinear form defined on analytic polynomials and by , determines an operator from the space of such polynomials to the space of linear functionals on . This operator is called the Toeplitz operator with symbol . We show that has finite rank if and only if is a finite linear combination of point masses. Application to Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space is immediate.

     

Commuting Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space of the bidisk

On the Hardy space of the bidisk, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a bounded symbol of a Toeplitz operator that commutes with another Toeplitz operator whose symbol is a certain type of bounded symbol.     

Dual Toeplitz operators on the sphere

Dual Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space of the unit circle are anti-unitarily equivalent to Toeplitz operators. In higher dimensions, for instance on the unit sphere, dual Toeplitz operators might behave quite differently and, therefore, seem to be a worth studying new class of Toeplitz-type operators. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and start a systematic investigation of dual Toeplitz operators on the orthogonal complement of the Hardy space of the unit sphere in Cn . In particular, we establish a corresponding spectral inclusion theorem and a Brown-Halmos type theorem. On the other hand, we characterize commuting dual Toeplitz operators as well as normal and quasinormal ones.

Algebraic properties of Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space

We study some algebraic properties of Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space. We first characterize (semi-)commuting Toeplitz operators with harmonic symbols. Next we study the product problem of when product of two Toeplitz operators is another Toeplitz operator. As an application, we show that the zero product of two Toeplitz operators with harmonic symbol has only a trivial solution. Also, the corresponding compact product problem is studied.     

Bounded and compact Toeplitz operators on the weighted Bergman space over the bidisk

On the Toeplitzness of the adjoint of composition operators

Building on techniques developed by Cowen (1988)  [3] and Nazarov–Shapiro (2007)  [10], it is shown that the adjoint of a composition operator, induced by a unit disk-automorphism, is not strongly asymptotically Toeplitz. This result answers Nazarov–Shapiro’s question in Nazarov and Shapiro (2007)  [10].
