In this work, carbon xerogels with a high pore volume and surface area (up to 2.58 cm3/g and 3200 m2/g respectively) have been synthesized using the sol-gel polycondensation of resorcinol (R) with formaldehyde (F) in a basic medium of monoethanolamine (MEA), followed by drying and pyrolysis. This medium (MEA) has not been used in previous investigations. The effect of activation with CO2 on the pore size distribution and the chemical functional groups has been investigated using N2 (77 K) adsorption, FTIR and elemental analysis techniques. A series of experiments has been conducted to investigate the effect of activation time and activation temperature. Activation of the samples was carried out at 850, 900 and 980 °C for times ranging from one to three hours. Within the range of activation conditions, an increase in activation time at 850 °C results in a continuous steady rise of the BET surface area and total pore volume. However, at the two higher temperatures, the surface area shows a maximum when plotted against activation time. FT-IR results show that the use of MEA as a catalyst leads to the formation of nitrogen functional groups in the surface of the resin.  相似文献

Mesoporous activated carbons were prepared from direct coal liquefaction residue(CLR)by KOH activation method, and the experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of KOH/CLR ratio, solvent for mixing the CLR and KOH,and carbonization procedure on the resultant carbon texture and catalytic activity for catalytic methane decomposition(CMD).The results showed that optimal KOH/CLR ratio of 2:1; solvent with higher solubility to KOH or the CLR,and an appropriate carbonization procedure are conductive to improving the carbon pore structure and catalytic activity for CMD.The resultant mesoporous carbons show higher and more stable activity than microporous carbons. Additionally, the relationship between the carbon textural properties and the catalytic activity for CMD was also discussed.  相似文献

In this work, activated carbon prepared from pine cone (PCAC) with ZnCl2 as an activation agent under microwave radiation was investigated. The activation step was performed at the microwave input power of 400 W and radiation time of 5 min. The properties of activated carbon were characterized by N2 adsorption Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Results showed that the BET surface area, Langmuir surface area, and total pore volume of PCAC were 939, 1,486 m2/g and 0.172 cm3/g, respectively. Adsorption capacity was demonstrated by the iodine numbers. The adsorptive property of PCAC was tested using methylene blue dye. Equilibrium data was best fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model, showing a monolayer adsorption capacity of 60.97 mg/g. The pseudo-first- and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were examined to evaluate the kinetic data, and the rate constants were calculated. Adsorption of the dyes followed pseudo-first order kinetics. Thermodynamic parameters such as free energy, enthalpy and entropy of dye adsorption were obtained.  相似文献

Activated ordered mesoporous carbons with a channel structure (AOMCs-CS) were successfully prepared by imposing CO(2) activation on ordered mesopore carbon C-FDU-15. It is found that the continuous carbon framework of the precursor C-FDU-15 plays an important role in keeping the order structure of the resulting AOMCs-CS. The mild activation (e.g., 31 wt % burnoff) does not impair the order degree. After that, the order degree gradually decreases with further increasing burnoff. However, the basic hexagonal mesostructure of C-FDU-15 can still be found in the AOMCs-CS when the burnoff is up to 73 wt %, although many carbon walls are punched and thus many larger mesopores and marcropores are generated. With increasing burnoff, the surface area and volume of micropores increase first and then decrease, and the surface area and volume of mesopores continuously increase. The highest measured Brunaruer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area, micropore volume, and total pore volume of the AOMCs-CS reach 2004 m(2)/g, 0.50 cm(3)/g, and 1.22 cm(3)/g, respectively.  相似文献

Nutshells of Sterculia alata, a forest waste, were used to prepare activated carbons by zinc chloride activation under four different activation atmospheres, to develop carbons with substantial capability, and to adsorb phenol from wastewater. Experiments were carried out at different chemical ratios (activating agent/precursor). Effect of carbonization temperature and time are the important variables, which had significant effect on the pore structure of carbon. Developed activated carbon was characterized by SEM analysis. Pore volume and surface area were estimated by Hg porosimetry and BET surface area analyses. The carbons showed surface area and micropore volumes of around 712 m2/g and 0.542 cm3/g, respectively. The activated carbon developed shows substantial capability to adsorb phenol from wastewater. The kinetic data were fitted to the models of intraparticle diffusion, pseudo-second order, and Lagergren model and followed more closely the pseudo-second-order chemisorption model. The isotherm equilibrium data were well-fitted by the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The maximum uptake of phenol was found at pH 3.5.  相似文献

An activated carbon with high specific surface area was prepared from polyurethane foam by chemical activation with K2CO3 and the influences of carbonization temperature and impregnation ratio on the pore structure of the prepared activated carbon were investigated. It was found that the specific surface area of the activated carbon was at a maximum value (about 2800 m(2)/g) at a carbonization temperature of 1073 K and at an impregnation ratio of 1.0. It was concluded that the polyurethane foam structure was modified during impregnation by K2CO3, K2CO3 promoted charring during carbonization, and then the weight loss behavior was changed below 700 and above 1000 K, carbon in the char was consumed by K2CO3 reduction, and this led to the high specific surface area. The prepared activated carbon had a very sharp micropore size distribution, compared with the commercial activated carbon having high specific surface area. The amounts of three organic vapors (benzene, acetone, and octane) adsorbed on the prepared activated carbons was much larger than those on the traditional coconut shell AC and the same as those on the commercial activated carbon except for octane. We surmised that the high specific surface area was due to the modification of the carbonization behavior of polyurethane foam by K2CO3.  相似文献

In this study, the use of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste as an abundant and low-cost raw material for producing activated carbon was investigated. For this purpose, ZnCl2 was used as a chemical activation agent and the carbonization process took place at 800 °C in N2 atmosphere. Seven sorbents were prepared by chemical activation (pyrolysis under N2 atmosphere at temperature of 800 °C after impregnation with ZnCl2) with different ratios of ZnCl2. The optimum ratio of organic fraction of municipal solid waste to ZnCl2 was inspected via methylene blue number and iodine number (ASTM Designation: D4607–94). The results showed that the adsorbent with 60 % ZnCl2/raw material was the most appropriate one with a satisfactory adsorption capacity, 112.4 mg g?1 for methylene blue and 134.0 mg g?1 for iodine. In addition, the structural analysis of this sorbent was performed using FT-IR, BET surface area, SEM–EDX and thermal analysis. Application of this sorbent to remove Cr(VI) from wastewater was studied to find an adsorption capacity of 66.7 mg g?1. The experimental adsorption equilibrium data were fitted to Langmuir adsorption model with an acceptable adsorption capacity of 66.7 mg g?1.  相似文献

Porous polymer spherical particles for column packings in nonaqueous size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) were prepared from 1,2-syndiotactic polybutadiene by suspension and evaporation method. The polymer microbeads obtained were crosslinked by radical reaction between 2-vinyl groups in polybutadiene with ultraviolet radiation, to render them insoluble. These microbeads have wider chromatographic separation width than polystyrene column packings. In addition, the polybutadiene microbeads did not show the excessive retention observed with commercial polystyrene columns for polycyclic aromatic compounds. Therefore, a close correlation between the elution volume and M, for polycyclic aromatic compounds was observed with polybutadiene microbeads columns.  相似文献

Activated carbons were prepared from pistachio-nut shells, which are one type of lignocellulosic material, by a two-step physical method. The effects of the preparation variables on the activated carbon pore structure were studied, followed by the optimization of these operating parameters. It was found that the activation temperature and dwell time are the important parameters that affect the characteristics of the activated carbons obtained. The effects of CO(2) flow rate and heating rate during activation were also studied. Under the experimental conditions used, the optimum conditions to prepare activated carbons with high surface area and pore volume were identified. The microstructure of the activated carbons prepared was examined by scanning electron microscopy while the Fourier transform infrared spectra showed the changes in the surface functional groups produced during the different preparation stages.  相似文献

In this work, activated carbons (ACs) with high porosity were synthesized from polystyrene-based cation-exchangeable resin (PSI) by chemical activation with KOH as the activating agent. And the influence of the KOH-to-PSI ratio on the porosity of the ACs studied was investigated by using nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, PSI could be successfully converted into ACs with well-developed micro- and mesopores. The specific surface area and pore volumes increased with an increase in the KOH-to-PSI ratio. However, it was found that the addition of KOH did lead to the transformation of the micropores to the meso- and macropores. From the results of pore size analysis, quite different pore size distributions were observed, resulting from the formation of new pores and the widening of the existing micropores during KOH activation. A SEM study showed that the resulting carbons possessed a well-developed pore structure and the pore size of the ACs studied increased with the KOH-to-PSI ratio.  相似文献

The introduction of amino groups on HNO3-treated microporous (AC(micro)-At) and mesoporous (AC(meso)-At) activated carbon, which was followed by thionyl chloride (SOCl2) treatment, by immobilization of diamine compounds was investigated in terms of change in pore characteristics. The immobilization was improved by treatment with SOCl2. The BET surface area of AC(micro)-At largely decreased by immobilization of ethylenediamine (EDA) and hexamethylenediamine (HMDA). Decreases in BET surface area and pore volume of AC(meso)-At by immobilization of EDA and HMDA were scarcely observed. These results suggest that amino groups introduced to mesoporous activated carbon are effective as functional groups for additional reactions.  相似文献

Activated carbons are produced from wastes of Algerian date stones by pyrolysis and physical activation in the presence of water vapor into a heated fixed-bed reactor. The effect of pyrolysis temperature and activation hold time on textural and chemical surface properties of raw date stones and carbon materials produced are studied. As expected, the percentage yield decreases with increase of activation temperature and hold time. The characterization of carbon materials is performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nitrogen adsorption (BET). Results show the presence of cellulose and hemicellulose in the raw material, and the predominance of carbon and graphite after pyrolysis. Different oxygen-containing functional groups are found in the raw material while aromatic structures are developed after pyrolysis and activation. The best specific surface area (635 m2 g−1) and microporous volume (0.716 cm3 g−1) are obtained when the date stones are grinded, pyrolysed at 700 °C under a 100 cm3 min−1 nitrogen flow and then activated under water vapor at 700 °C for 6 h.  相似文献

The paper presents results of a study on obtaining activated carbon from common corn cobs and on its use as adsorbent for removal of pollution from liquid and gas phases. The crushed precursor was subjected to pyrolysis at 500 and 800?°C in argon atmosphere and next to physical or chemical activation by CO2 and KOH respectively. The effect of pyrolysis conditions and activation method on the physicochemical properties of the materials obtained was tested. The sorption properties of the carbonaceous adsorbents obtained were characterized by determination of nitrogen dioxide and hydrogen sulphide sorption from gas stream in dry and wet conditions as well as by iodine and methylene blue removal from aqueous solution. The final products were microporous activated carbons of well-developed surface area varying from 337 to 1213 m2/g and showing diverse acid-base character of the surface. The results obtained in our study have proved that a suitable choice of the activation procedure for corn cobs permits production of cheap adsorbents with high sorption capacity toward toxic gases of acidic character as well as different pollutants from liquid phase.  相似文献

Activated carbons were prepared from old newspaper and paper prepared from simulated paper sludge by chemical activation using various alkali carbonates and hydroxides as activating reagents and also by physical activation using steam. In the chemical activation, the influence of oxidation, carbonization, and activation on the porous properties of the resulting activated carbons was investigated. The specific surface areas (S(BET)) of the activated carbons prepared by single-step activation (direct activation without oxidation and carbonization) were higher than those resulting from two-step activation (oxidation-activation and carbonization-activation) and three-step activation (oxidation-carbonization-activation) methods. The S(BET) values were strongly dependent on the activating reagents and the activating conditions, being >1000 m(2)/g using K(2)CO(3), Rb(2)CO(3), Cs(2)CO(3), and KOH as activating reagents but <1000 m(2)/g using Li(2)CO(3), Na(2)CO(3), and NaOH. These differences in S(BET) values are suggested to be related to the ionic radii of the alkalis used as activating reagents. The microstructures of the higher S(BET) samples show a complete loss of fiber shape but those of the lower S(BET) samples maintain the shape. In the physical activation, the porous properties of the activated carbons prepared by the single-step method were examined as a function of the production conditions such as activation temperature, activation time, steam concentration, and flow rate of the carrier gas. The maximum S(BET) and total pore volume (V(P)) were 1086 m(2)/g and 1.01 ml/g, obtained by activation at 850 degrees C for 2 h, flowing 20 mol% of steam in nitrogen gas at 0.5 l/min. A correlation was found between S(BET) and the yield of the product, the maximum S(BET) value corresponding to a product yield of about 10%. This result is suggested to result from competition between pore formation and surface erosion. Compared with chemically activated carbons using K(2)CO(3), the porous properties of the physically activated carbons have lower S(BET) and V(P) values because of the smaller size and lower volume of their micropores. On the other hand, they retain the original fiber shape and the paper sheet morphology after activation.  相似文献

A temperature-responsive composite based on poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) and ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) has been successfully prepared by a simple wetness impregnation technique. The structures and properties of the composite were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 sorption, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results showed that the inclusion of PNIPAAm had not greatly changed the basic ordered pore structure of the OMCs. Ibuprofen (IBU) was selected as model drug, and in vitro test of IBU release exhibited a temperature-responsive controlled release delivery.  相似文献

Generation of particles of various sizes and shapes can be of great interest to scientists and engineers. We have developed a new and robust apparatus which can generate oblate spheroids from spherical polymer particles. A sheet of film dispersed with spherical particles was held by an eight-jaw extensional apparatus. The jaws were positioned in the edges of a regular octagon and moved radially to induce biaxial extension in an oil bath above the glass transition temperatures of the film and particles. We have demonstrated that polystyrene particles dispersed in a polyvinyl alcohol film can be stretched to generate various shapes by this method. The microscopic studies show that the oblate spheroids obtained by this method are virtually exact spheroids without showing knife edges. Also depending on positions with regard to holders, ellipsoids and even prolate spheroids can be obtained. The method has been found to be robust in that the deformation is always reproducible regardless of film thickness and very small deformation can be applied for nearly spherical particles. We have confirmed that this method can be applied for particles of submicrons to 10?μm in diameter or even larger ones. It is expected that the spheroids and ellipsoids obtained by this method can be of help in many studies including colloids, suspension rheology, electrophoresis, printed electronics, and pharmaceutical science.  相似文献
