Let {pn} be a sequence of monic polynomials with pn of degree n, that are orthogonal with respect to a suitable Borel measure on the real line. Stieltjes showed that if m<n and x1,…,xn are the zeros of pn with x1<<xn then there are m distinct intervals f the form (xj,xj+1) each containing one zero of pm. Our main theorem proves a similar result with pm replaced by some linear combinations of p1,…,pm. The interlacing of the zeros of linear combinations of two and three adjacent orthogonal polynomials is also discussed.  相似文献

The orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are defined by the recurrence relation
where for any k0. If we consider n complex numbers and , we can use the previous recurrence relation to define the monic polynomials Φ01,…,Φn. The polynomial Φn(z)=Φn(z;α0,…,αn-2,αn-1) obtained in this way is called the paraorthogonal polynomial associated to the coefficients α0,α1,…,αn-1.We take α0,α1,…,αn-2 i.i.d. random variables distributed uniformly in a disk of radius r<1 and αn-1 another random variable independent of the previous ones and distributed uniformly on the unit circle. For any n we will consider the random paraorthogonal polynomial Φn(z)=Φn(z;α0,…,αn-2,αn-1). The zeros of Φn are n random points on the unit circle.We prove that for any the distribution of the zeros of Φn in intervals of size near eiθ is the same as the distribution of n independent random points uniformly distributed on the unit circle (i.e., Poisson). This means that, for large n, there is no local correlation between the zeros of the considered random paraorthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We investigate monotonicity properties of extremal zeros of orthogonal polynomials depending on a parameter. Using a functional analysis method we prove the monotonicity of extreme zeros of associated Jacobi, associated Gegenbauer and q-Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials. We show how these results can be applied to prove interlacing of zeros of orthogonal polynomials with shifted parameters and to determine optimally localized polynomials on the unit ball.  相似文献

We show that each polynomial a(z)=1+a1z+?+adzd in N[z] having only real zeros is the f-polynomial of a multicomplex. It follows that a(z) is also the h-polynomial of a Cohen-Macaulay ring and is the g-polynomial of a simplicial polytope. We conjecture that a(z) is also the f-polynomial of a simplicial complex and show that the multicomplex result implies this in the special case that the zeros of a(z) belong to the real interval [-1,0). We also show that for fixed d the conjecture can fail for at most finitely many polynomials having the required form.  相似文献

We present a set of generators of the full annihilator ideal for the Witt ring of an arbitrary field of characteristic unequal to two satisfying a non‐vanishing condition on the powers of the fundamental ideal in the torsion part of the Witt ring. This settles a conjecture of Ongenae and Van Geel. This result could only be proved by first obtaining a new lower bound on the 2‐adic valuation of Stirling numbers of the second kind. We prove that a majorization-type relation among the root sets of three polynomials implies that the same relation holds for the root sets of their derivatives. We then use this result to give a unified derivation of the classical results due to Sz.-Nagy, Robinson, Meir and Sharma which relate the span of a polynomial to the spans of its first or higher derivatives. Orthogonal polynomials satisfy a recurrence relation of order two defined by two sequences of coefficients. If we modify one of these recurrence coefficients at a certain order, we obtain the so-called perturbed orthogonal sequence. In this work, we analyse perturbed Chebyshev polynomials of second kind and we deal with the problem of finding the connection coefficients that allow us to write the perturbed sequence in terms of the original one and in terms of the canonical basis. From the connection coefficients obtained, we derive some results about zeros at the origin. The analysis is valid for arbitrary order of perturbation.  相似文献

We examine the size of a real trigonometric polynomial of degree at most having at least zeros in (counting multiplicities). This result is then used to give a new proof of a theorem of Littlewood concerning flatness of unimodular trigonometric polynomials. Our proof is shorter and simpler than Littlewood's. Moreover our constant is explicit in contrast to Littlewood's approach, which is indirect.
