Behavior of a Tresca type plastic dielectric is investigated theoretically from a continuum mechanical point of view. The optical constitutive equations are defined as special cases of a hypo-elastic dielectric of grade two. The singularity condition of the constitutive equations satisfies the Tresca yield criterion. The index deviator tensor is proportional to the stress deviator tensor and, then, the birefringence and the extinction angle are expressed by the stress deviator. Their numerical variations with the angle of shear in simple shear deformation are shown.  相似文献

The Rapoport-Leas mathematical model of two-phase flow is generalized to include the case of anisotropic porous media. The formula for the capillary pressure, which specifies the relationship between the phase pressures, contains a scalar function of a vector argument. In order to determine the scalar function, the capillary pressure tensor and the tensor inverse to the tensor of characteristic linear dimensions are introduced. The capillary pressure is determined by the contraction of the second-rank tensors with a unit vector collinear to the phase pressure gradients, also assumed to be collinear. It is shown that the saturation function introduced for isotropic porous media (Leverett function) can be generalized to include anisotropic media and is now determined by a fourth-rank tensor. Generalized expressions for the Leverett and relative phase permeability functions are given for orthotropic and transversely isotropic media with account for the hysteresis of the phase permeabilities and capillary pressure.  相似文献

Available theories to explain the phenomenon of photomechanical behavior in solid materials below the transition temperature are qualitative in nature, and several distinct mechanisms are capable of producing a deformation birefringence. A new mechanism is proposed on the atomic level to account quantitatively for deformation birefringence in an ideal amorphous elastic solid. The material is an isotropic, statistically homogeneous, elastic medium consisting of a random spatial arrangement of heavy mass points (atom nuclei) with positive electric charge in static equilibrium with a corresponding number of continuous, spherical, negatively charged regions (electron clouds). The medium has a nonzero random initial polarization; changes in the components of the dielectric tensor at optical frequencies are computed for infinitesimal uniaxial strain using the Lorentz field approximation for isotropic media. The stress-optical constant is then computed from the associated change in refractive index, and is shown to be in good agreement with experimental values for ordinary photoelastic materials.  相似文献

In order to combine the Mohr–Coulomb criterion and the critical state models for soils, a transformed stress tensor based on the Mohr–Coulomb criterion is proposed. The new stress tensor is determined by a transformation that makes the Mohr–Coulomb criterion become a cone having an axis as the space diagonal in transformed principal stress space, and is applied to the Cam-clay and Sekiguchi–Ohta models, which are two typical isotropic and anisotropic hardening critical state models for soils, for improving modelling capability of describing soil behaviour in general stresses. The revised models give more accurately predicted results than the original ones.  相似文献

In this work, the singularity problem of a three-phase anisotropic piezoelectric media is studied using the extended Stroh formalism. Based on the method of analytical continuation in conjunction with alternating technique, the general expressions for the complex potentials are derived in each medium of a three-phase anisotropic piezoelectric media. This approach has a clear advantage in deriving the solution to the heterogeneous problem in terms of the solution for the corresponding homogeneous problem. The presented series solutions have rapid convergence which is guaranteed numerically. Stress and electric fields which are dependent on the mismatch in the material constants, the location of singularities and the magnitude of electromechanical loadings are studied in detail. Numerical results demonstrate that the continuity conditions at the interfaces are indeed satisfied and show the effects of material mismatch on the stress and electric displacement fields. The image forces exerted on a dislocation due to the interfaces are also calculated by means of the generalized Peach–Koehler formula.  相似文献

The equations associated with the theory of anisotropic poroelastic materials undergoing small deformations are recast in a matrix notation where the matrices are composed of proper tensor components. Using this notation the compatibility conditions on the components of the strain tensor are expressed in terms of the stress tensor, the pore pressure and the anisotropic elastic coefficients of the medium.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis, based on the search for a normal dissipation potential, is performed in order to generalize the empirical non-Darcy one-dimensional flow models to 3-D flows through anisotropic porous media. In an abstract framework, it is proven that a large number of heuristic non-linear equations governing the multidimensional flow through isotropic porous media can be derived starting from a potential strictly related to the mechanical power dissipated by the fluid. Such a formulation allows to define, for the tensor permeability case, a wide class of filtration models according to the Onsager's generalized theory of dissipative mechanical systems. A consistent generalization to anisotropic permeability case of polynomial flow models is proposed. Both primal and dual mixed variational formulations associated to the proposed quadratic and incomplete cubic flow models are introduced and discussed.  相似文献

It has been well recognized that, due to anisotropic packing structure of granular material, the true stress in a specimen is different from the applied stress. However, very few research efforts have been focused on quantifying the relationship between the true stress and applied stress. In this paper, we derive an explicit relationship among applied stress tensor, material-fabric tensor, and force-fabric tensor; and we propose a relationship between the true stress tensor and the applied stress tensor. The validity of this derived relationship is examined by using the discrete element simulation results for granular material under biaxial and triaxial loading conditions.  相似文献

Physical mechanisms and influencing factors on the effective stress coefficient for rock/soil-like porous materials are investigated, based on which equivalent connectivity index is proposed. The equivalent connectivity index, relying on the meso-scale structure of porous material and the property of liquid, denotes the connectivity of pores in Representative Element Area (REA). If the conductivity of the porous material is anisotropic, the equivalent connectivity index is a second order tensor. Based on the basic theories of continuous mechanics and tensor analysis, relationship between area porosity and volumetric porosity of porous materials is deduced. Then a generalized expression, describing the relation between effective stress coefficient tensor and equivalent connectivity tensor of pores, is proposed, and the expression can be applied to isotropic media and also to anisotropic materials. Furthermore, evolution of porosity and equivalent connectivity index of the pore are studied in the strain space, and the method to determine the corresponding functions in expressions above is proposed using genetic algorithm and genetic programming. Two applications show that the results obtained by the method in this paper perfectly agree with the test data. This paper provides an important theoretical support to the coupled hydro-mechanical research.  相似文献

We investigate the lower bound of the area of a square-shaped representative elementary volume (REV) for the permeability tensor for transverse Stokes flow through randomly packed, parallel, and monodisperse cylinders. The investigation is significant to flow models using small calculation regions for fibrous porous media, such as modeling defect formation during directional solidification in the mushy zone of dendritic alloys. Using 90 ensembles of 1,000 domains, where each ensemble comprises domains with the same number and size of cylinders, we develop correlations between the permeability tensor invariants and macroscopic features of the domain. We find that for ensembles of domains with fewer than 200 cylinders, the eigenvectors of the permeability tensors exhibit preferential alignment with the domain axes, demonstrating that the estimated permeability is significantly affected by the periodic boundary conditions for these cases. Our results also suggest that the anisotropy of the permeability tensor may not be insignificant even for large sampling volumes. These results provide a practical lower bound for the calculation volumes used in permeability simulations in fibrous porous media, and also suggest that modelers should consider using an anisotropic tensor for small calculation volumes if phenomena such as channeling are important.  相似文献

基于微面模型,定义损伤变量为微面上有效承载面积的减少. 将Kachanov的一维有效 应力概念推广到三维,提出微面有效应力矢量的概念. 根据微面的有效应力矢量,将无损材 料的宏观应力张量及不变量与微面应力矢量的积分关系拓展到有损材料,得到了有损材料的 宏观有效应力张量及其不变量与宏观名义应力张量、微面面积损伤组构张量之间的关系. 将 无损材料的以应力张量不变量表示的Drucker-Prager准则推广到有损材料,建立了含缺陷 材料的各向异性屈服准则. 对有损材料,宏观有效应力张量与Murakami的有效应力张量具 有相同的形式,各向异性强度准则与Liu等提出的扩展Hill准则有相同的形式,当不考虑 静水应力对屈服的影响时,它与Hill准则具有相同的形式.  相似文献

A new modified couple stress theory for anisotropic elasticity is proposed. This theory contains three material length scale parameters. Differing from the modified couple stress theory, the couple stress constitutive relationships are introduced for anisotropic elasticity, in which the curvature (rotation gradient) tensor is asymmetric and the couple stress moment tensor is symmetric. However, under isotropic case, this theory can be identical to modified couple stress theory proposed by Yang et al. (Int J Solids Struct 39:2731–2743, 2002). The differences and relations of standard, modified and new modified couple stress theories are given herein. A detailed variational formulation is provided for this theory by using the principle of minimum total potential energy. Based on the new modified couple stress theory, composite laminated Kirchhoff plate models are developed in which new anisotropic constitutive relationships are defined. The First model contains two material length scale parameters, one related to fiber and the other related to matrix. The curvature tensor in this model is asymmetric; however, the couple stress moment tensor is symmetric. Under isotropic case, this theory can be identical to the modified couple stress theory proposed by Yang et al. (Int J Solids Struct 39:2731–2743, 2002). The present model can be viewed as a simplified couple stress theory in engineering mechanics. Moreover, a more simplified model of couple stress theory including only one material length scale parameter for modeling the cross-ply laminated Kirchhoff plate is suggested. Numerical results show that the proposed laminated Kirchhoff plate model can capture the scale effects of microstructures.  相似文献

The equations of viscoplastic fluid flow through a porous medium are written for all types of anisotropy. It is shown that in anisotropic media the flows with a limiting gradient are characterized by two material tensors: the tensor of permeability (flow resistance) coefficients and the tensor of limiting gradients. A complex of laboratory measurements for determining the tensors of permeability coefficients and limiting gradients is considered for all types of anisotropic media. It is shown that the tensors of permeability coefficients and limiting gradients are coaxial. Conditions of flow onset and fluid flow laws are formulated for media with monoclinic and triclinic symmetries of flow characteristics.  相似文献

In this paper, the stress deformation constitutive relations for continua are discussed and a stress deformation constitutive relation expressed by functional tensorial expression is found. When we study the anisotropic damage of anisotropic materials either from a macroscopic continuum mechanics model or from a microdefect model, there exists a limit to the order of a damage tensor, and the condition under which the damage variable may be described by a tensor lower than those of the highest order is found.  相似文献

The gradient transport model for k is extended to classes of turbulent flows for which the gradient transport hypothesis is relevant but the anisotropy of the Reynolds stress, to which the eddy diffusivity is proportional, is large and variable. In highly anisotropic turbulence the standard isotropic model used in engineering practice is fundamentally wrong and the conventional anisotropic approximation inadequate. The work is motivated by the important observations that the eddy diffusivity coefficient for a standard gradient transport model for various transported quantities is a factor of 3–10 times larger in highly anisotropic turbulence than that used in standard engineering models. While the conventional anisotropic eddy diffusivity approximation appears adequate for material conserved scalars it is inadequate for k. The problem is solved by addressing the anisotropy of the turbulent transport of k at the level of the underlying third order tensor. It is shown that, unlike the traditional transport models for k, the orientation of the anisotropy with respect to the direction of the gradient plays a crucial role not accounted for in conventional models used in engineering calculations. The new anisotropic eddy diffusivity tensor is quadratic in the anisotropy (the traditional model is linear in the anisotropy). It is shown that the new more rigorous anisotropic eddy diffusivity varies 300% more than the standard model comparing the isotropic limit to the value for the two-dimensional limit. The two-dimensional limit is important in strongly stably stratified flows, in pressure gradient or shock driven flows and in rotating flows. Using the simple shear and the homogeneous non-equilibrium Rayleigh Taylor turbulence the new anisotropic diffusivity tensor is validated in inhomogeneous Rayleigh Taylor turbulence at early and late times.  相似文献

The representation of the permeability coefficient tensor for capillary models of porous media displaying isotropic and anisotropic flow properties is considered. The representation proposed is compared with the Kozeny-Carman formula. It is shown that in general, as distinct from the widely accepted representation of the Carman constant in the form of a product of the form factor and tortuosity, this constant is equal to a combination of three coefficients, namely the form factor, the tortuosity, and the structure coefficient. The presence of the latter is due to the fact that in periodic capillary models the porosity is not equal to the surface porosity. It is shown that the Carman constant, the form factor, and the structure coefficient are not universal and their intervals of variation are calculated. The results obtained make it possible to explain and interpret numerous experimental data on the determination of the Carman constant in various porous media.Moscow. A mathematical model of turbulent transport processes is modified to make allowance for the turbulent energy gradient and the presence of walls. The modification consists in making the variance tensor in the Gaussian probability density distribution for the initial mole velocities anisotropic for nonzero turbulent energy gradient and a ratio of the turbulence scale to the distance from the wall of the order of unity. Formulas for the variance tensor components are derived and the empirical coefficients of these formulas are determined. The expression for the dimensionless turbulent friction stress is compared with experimental data for three boundary-layer-type flows, namely, in the wake of a cylinder, in the boundary layer on a flat plate, and in a channel with parallel walls.  相似文献
