This study proposes an ultrasound-horn system for the extraction of a natural active compound “artemisinin” from Artemisia annua L. leaves as an alternative to hot maceration technique. Ultrasound leaching improves artemisinin recovery at all temperatures where only ten minutes is required to recover 70% (4.42 mg g−1) compared to 60 min of conventional hot leaching for the same yield. For instance, ultrasound treatment at 30 °C produced a higher yield than the one obtained by conventional maceration at 40 °C. Kinetic study suggests that the extraction pattern can be assimilated, during the first ten minutes, to a first order steady state, from which activation energy calculations revealed that each gram of artemisinin required 7.38 kJ in ultrasound versus 10.3 kJ in the conventional system. Modeling results indicate the presence of two extraction stages, a faster stage with a diffusion coefficient of 19 × 10−5 cm2 min−1 for ultrasound technique at 40 °C, seven times higher than the conventional one; and a second deceleration stage similar for both techniques with diffusion coefficient ranging from 1.7 to 3.1 × 10−5 cm2 min−1. It is noted that the efficient ultrasound extraction potential implies extraction of higher amount of co-metabolites so low artemisinin crystal purity is engendered but a combination with a purification step using activated charcoal and celite adsorbents produced crystals with comparable purity for conventional and ultrasound samples.  相似文献

In the present work manganese(III) has been used as oxidant and microwave radiation and ultrasound energy have been assessed to speed up and to improve the efficiency of digestion step for the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD). Microwave (MW) and ultrasound-assisted COD determination methods have been optimized by means of experimental design and the optimum conditions are: 40 psi pressure, 855 W power and 1 min irradiation time; and 90% of maximum nominal power (180 W), 0.9 s (s?1) cycles and 1 min irradiation time for microwaves and ultrasound, respectively. Chloride ion interference is removed as hydrochloric acid gas from acidified sample solutions at 150 °C in a closed reaction tube and captured by bismuth-based adsorbent suspended above the heated solution. Under optimum conditions, the evaluated assisted digestion methods have been successfully applied, with the exception of pyridine, to several pure organic compounds and two reference materials. COD recoveries obtained with MW and ultrasound-assisted digestion for five real wastewater samples were ranged between 86–97% and 68–91%, respectively, of the values obtained with the classical method (open reflux) used as reference, with relative standard deviation lower than 4% in most cases. Thus, the Mn(III) microwave-assisted digestion method seems to be an interesting and promising alternative to conventional COD digestion methods since it is faster and more environmentally friendly than the ones used for the same purpose.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to develop a new process for pomegranate peels application in food industries based on ultrasound-assisted extraction of carotenoids using different vegetable oils as solvents. In this way, an oil enriched with antioxidants is produced. Sunflower oil and soy oil were used as alternative solvents and the effects of various parameters on extraction yield were studied. Extraction temperature, solid/oil ratio, amplitude level, and extraction time were the factors investigated with respect to extraction yield. Comparative studies between ultrasound-assisted and conventional solvent extraction were carried out in terms of processing procedure and total carotenoids content. The efficient extraction period for achieving maximum yield of pomegranate peel carotenoids was about 30 min. The optimum operating conditions were found to be: extraction temperature, 51.5 °C; peels/solvent ratio, 0.10; amplitude level, 58.8%; solvent, sunflower oil. A second-order kinetic model was successfully developed for describing the mechanism of ultrasound extraction under different processing parameters.  相似文献

The present study was aimed to removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution by ultrasound-assisted adsorption onto the granular activated carbon obtained from hazelnut shells. The attention was focused on modeling the equilibrium and kinetics of Cu(II) adsorption onto the granular activated carbon. The granular activated carbon was prepared from ground dried hazelnut shells by simultaneous carbonization and activation by water steam at 950 °C for 2 h. Adsorption isotherm data were better fitted by the Langmuir model than the Freundlich model in both the absence and the presence of ultrasound. The maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for Cu(II), calculated from the Langmuir isotherms, in the presence of ultrasound (3.77 mmol/g) is greater than that in the absence of ultrasound (3.14 mmol/g). The adsorption process in the absence and the presence of ultrasound obeyed to the pseudo second-order kinetics. The removal of Cu(II) ions was higher in the presence of ultrasound than in its absence, but ultrasound reduced the rate constant. The intraparticular diffusion model indicated that adsorption of Cu(II) ions on the granular activated carbon was diffusion controlled as well as that ultrasound promoted intraparticular diffusion.  相似文献

The study is aimed to evaluate the efficiency of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) as a simple strategy focused on sample preparation for metal determination in biological samples. The extraction of sodium and potassium extraction was carried out from swine feed followed by determination of the concentration of these metals by flame atomic emission spectrometry (FAES). The experiment was performed to cover the study of the variables influencing the extraction process and its optimal conditions (sample mass, particle size, acid concentration, sonication time and ultrasound power); the determination of these analytical characteristics and method validation using certified reference material; and the analysis of pre-starter diets. The optimal conditions established conditions were as follows: mass: 100 mg, particle size:<60 μm, acid concentration: 0.10 mol L?1 HCl, sonication time: 50 s and ultrasound power: 102 W. The proposed method (UAE) was applied in digestibility assays of those nutrients present in different piglet pre-starter feeds and their results proved to be compatible with those obtained from mineralized samples (P < 0.05). The ultrasound extraction method was demonstrated to be an excellent alternative for handless sampling and operational costs and the method also has the advantage of does not generating toxic residues that may negatively affect human health and contaminate the environment.  相似文献

Piceid, a naturally occurring derivative of resveratrol found in many plants, has recently been considered as a potential nutraceutical. However, its poorly water-soluble property could cause a coupled problem of biological activities concerning drug dispersion and absorption in human body, which is still unsolved now. Liposome, a well-known aqueous carrier for water-insoluble ingredients, is commonly applied in drug delivery systems. In this study, a feasible approach for solving the problem is that the targeted piceid was encapsulated into a liposomal formula as aqueous substrate to overcome its poor water-solubility. The encapsulation process was assisted by ultrasound, with investigation of lipid content, ultrasound power and ultrasound time, for controlling encapsulation efficiency (E.E%), absolute loading (A.L%) and particle size (PS). Moreover, both RSM and ANN methodologies were further applied to optimize the ultrasound-assisted encapsulation process. The data indicated that the most important effects on the encapsulation performance were found to be of lipid content followed by ultrasound time and ultrasound power. The maximum E.E% (75.82%) and A.L% (2.37%) were exhibited by ultrasound assistance with the parameters of 160 mg lipid content, ultrasound time for 24 min and ultrasound power of 90 W. By methodological aspects of processing, the predicted E.E% and A.L% were respectively in good agreement with the experimental results for both RSM and ANN. Moreover, RMSE, R2 and AAD statistics were further used to compare the prediction abilities of RSM and ANN based on the validation data set. The results indicated that the prediction accuracy of ANN was better than that of RSM. In conclusion, ultrasound-assisted liposome encapsulation can be an efficient strategy for producing well-soluble/dispersed piceid, which could be further applied to promote human health by increased efficiency of biological absorption, and the process of ultrasound-mediated liposome encapsulation can be well established by a methodological approach using either RSM or ANN, but it is worth mentioning that the ANN model used here showed the superiority over RSM for predicting and optimizing encapsulation.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to evaluate the efficiency of an ultrasonication process in combination with METIX-AC technology, a chemical process, for metal removal and dewatering ability, with preservation of fertilizing properties of sewage sludge. Waste activated sludge samples having a total solids concentration of 4 and 20 g L?1, were enriched with Cu and Zn in order to exceed the limiting values recommended by Québec regulation for sludge valorization. Ultrasonication was applied at low frequency (22 kHz) at specific energies ranging from 180 to 66,000 kJ kg?1 of dry sludge. Ultrasound-assisted leaching rates and yields were similar to chemical leaching alone for Zn, whereas solubilisation was reduced for Cu, regardless the specific energy. Fertilizing properties preservation and dewatering ability were similar in ultrasound-assisted leaching, compared to chemical leaching alone. These trends were mainly attributed to the changes of metal speciation, particle size and morphology during ultrasonication, in addition to untreated sludge properties.  相似文献

The in situ leaching process of China's unique ion-adsorption rare earth ores has caused severe environmental damages due to the use of (NH4)2SO4 solution. This study reports that magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) as a leaching agent would replace (NH4)2SO4 by ultrasonically assisted leaching to deal with the ammonia-nitrogen pollution problem and enhance leaching process. At leaching conditions of 3 wt% MgSO4 concentration, 3:1 L/S ratio and 30 min, the total rare earth leaching efficiency reaches 75.5%. Ultrasound-assisted leaching experiments show that the leaching efficiency of rare earths is substantially increased by introducing ultrasound, and nearly completely leached out after two stage leaching process. Thus, ultrasonic-assisted leaching process with MgSO4 is not only effective but also environmentally friendly, and beneficial to leach rare earths at laboratory scale.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of rapeseed oil was investigated and compared with conventional extraction for energy efficiency, throughput time, extraction yield, cleanness, processing cost and product quality. A multivariate study enabled us to define optimal parameters (7.7 W/cm2 for ultrasonic power intensity, 40 °C for processing temperature, and a solid/liquid ratio of 1/15) for ultrasound-assisted extraction of oil from oilseeds to maximize lipid yield while reducing solvent consumption and extraction time using response surface methodology (RSM) with a three-variable central composite design (CCD). A significant difference in oil quality was noted under the conditions of the initial ultrasound extraction, which was later avoided using ultrasound in the absence of oxygen. Three concepts of multistage cross-current extraction were investigated and compared: conventional multistage maceration, ultrasound-assisted maceration and a combination, to assess the positive impact of using ultrasound on the seed oil extraction process. The study concludes that ultrasound-assisted extraction of oil is likely to reduce both economic and ecological impacts of the process in the fat and oil industry.  相似文献

The effects of amplitude and time of ultrasound-assisted extraction on the physicochemical properties and the fatty acid profile of pumpkin seed oil (Cucurbita pepo) were evaluated. Ultrasound time (5–30 min) and the response variables amplitude (25–100%), extraction yield, efficiency, oxidative stability in terms of the free fatty acids (FFA) of the plant design comprising two independent experiments variables, peroxide (PV), p-anisidine (AV), totox value (TV) and the fatty acid profile were evaluated. The results were analyzed by multiple linear regression. The time and amplitude showed significant differences (P < 0.05) for all variables. The highest yield of extraction was achieved at 5 min and amplitude of 62.5% (62%). However, the optimal ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions were as follows: ultrasound time of 26.34 min and amplitude of 89.02%. All extracts showed low FFA (2.75–4.93% oleic acid), PV (1.67–4.68 meq/kg), AV (1.94–3.69) and TV (6.25–12.55) values. The main fatty acids in all the extracts were oleic and linoleic acid. Therefore, ultrasound-assisted oil extraction had increased performance and reduced extraction time without affecting the oil quality.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the synthesis of aminooxazole derivatives via thermal and ultrasonic methods using deep eutectic solvent as medium. It was observed that ultrasound-assisted method gave 90% yield in just 8 min as against 3.5 h required to get 69% yield by thermal method. One of the compounds 4-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-oxazol-2-amine synthesized by both methods were subjected to material characterization study via XRD, TGA and SEM analysis. It was observed that use of ultrasound not only increased the rate of reaction but also improved the quality of product obtained. The crystallinity of the product from ultrasound method was 21.12% whereas thermal method fetched only 8.33% crystallinity thereby improving crystallinity by almost 60%. In addition, sonochemical synthesis also saved more than 70% energy as depicted by energy calculations.  相似文献

Mass transfer coefficient is an important parameter in the process of mass transfer. It can reflect the degree of enhancement of mass transfer process in liquid–solid reaction and in non-reactive systems like dissolution and leaching, and further verify the issues by experiments in the reaction process. In the present paper, a new computational model quantitatively solving ultrasonic enhancement on mass transfer coefficient in liquid–solid reaction is established, and the mass transfer coefficient on silicon surface with a transducer at frequencies of 40 kHz, 60 kHz, 80 kHz and 100 kHz has been numerically simulated. The simulation results indicate that mass transfer coefficient increases with the increasing of ultrasound power, and the maximum value of mass transfer coefficient is 1.467 × 10−4 m/s at 60 kHz and the minimum is 1.310 × 10−4 m/s at 80 kHz in the condition when ultrasound power is 50 W (the mass transfer coefficient is 2.384 × 10−5 m/s without ultrasound). The extrinsic factors such as temperature and transducer diameter and distance between reactor and ultrasound source also influence the mass transfer coefficient on silicon surface. Mass transfer coefficient increases with the increasing temperature, with the decreasing distance between silicon and central position, with the decreasing of transducer diameter, and with the decreasing of distance between reactor and ultrasound source at the same ultrasonic power and frequency. The simulation results indicate that the computational model can quantitatively solve the ultrasonic enhancement on mass transfer coefficient.  相似文献

The present work demonstrates the hydrolysis of waste cooking oil (WCO) under solvent free condition using commercial available immobilized lipase (Novozyme 435) under the influence of ultrasound irradiation. The process parameters were optimized using a sequence of experimental protocol to evaluate the effects of temperature, molar ratios of substrates, enzyme loading, duty cycle and ultrasound intensity. It has been observed that ultrasound-assisted lipase-catalyzed hydrolysis of WCO would be a promising alternative for conventional methods. A maximum conversion of 75.19% was obtained at mild operating parameters: molar ratio of oil to water (buffer pH 7) 3:1, catalyst loading of 1.25% (w/w), lower ultrasound power 100 W (ultrasound intensity – 7356.68 W m−2), duty cycle 50% and temperature (50 °C) in a relatively short reaction time (2 h). The activation energy and thermodynamic study shows that the hydrolysis reaction is more feasible when ultrasound is combined with mechanical agitation as compared with the ultrasound alone and simple conventional stirring technique. Application of ultrasound considerably reduced the reaction time as compared to conventional reaction. The successive use of the catalyst for repetitive cycles under the optimum experimental conditions resulted in a loss of enzymatic activity and also minimized the product conversion.  相似文献

Ultrasound coupled with supercritical CO2 has become an important method for exfoliation of graphene, but behind which a peeling mechanism is unclear. In this work, CFD simulation and experiment were both investigated to elucidate the mechanism and the effects of the process parameters on the exfoliation yield. The experiments and the CFD simulation were conducted under pressure ranging from 8 MPa to 16 MPa, the ultrasonic power ranging from 12 W to 240 W and the frequency of 20 kHz. The numerical analysis of fluid flow patterns and pressure distributions revealed that the fluid shear stress and the periodical pressure fluctuation generated by ultrasound were primary factors in exfoliating graphene. The distribution of the fluid shear stress decided the effective exfoliation area, which, in turn, affected the yield. The effective area increased from 5.339 cm3 to 8.074 cm3 with increasing ultrasonic power from 12 W to 240 W, corresponding to the yield increasing from 5.2% to 21.5%. The pressure fluctuation would cause the expansion of the interlayers of graphite. The degree of the expansion increased with the increase of the operating pressure but decreased beyond 12 MPa. Thus, the maximum yield was obtained at 12 MPa. The cavitation might be generated by ultrasound in supercritical CO2. But it is too weak to exfoliate graphite into graphene. These results provide a strategy in optimizing and scaling up the ultrasound-assisted supercritical CO2 technique for producing graphene.  相似文献

In this study, extraction of essential oil, polyphenols and pectin from orange peel has been optimized using microwave and ultrasound technology without adding any solvent but only “in situ” water which was recycled and used as solvent. The essential oil extraction performed by Microwave Hydrodiffusion and Gravity (MHG) was optimized and compared to steam distillation extraction (SD). No significant changes in yield were noticed: 4.22 ± 0.03% and 4.16 ± 0.05% for MHG and SD, respectively. After extraction of essential oil, residual water of plant obtained after MHG extraction was used as solvent for polyphenols and pectin extraction from MHG residues. Polyphenols extraction was performed by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and conventional extraction (CE). Response surface methodology (RSM) using central composite designs (CCD) approach was launched to investigate the influence of process variables on the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The statistical analysis revealed that the optimized conditions of ultrasound power and temperature were 0.956 W/cm2 and 59.83 °C giving a polyphenol yield of 50.02 mg GA/100 g dm. Compared with the conventional extraction (CE), the UAE gave an increase of 30% in TPC yield. Pectin was extracted by conventional and microwave assisted extraction. This technique gives a maximal yield of 24.2% for microwave power of 500 W in only 3 min whereas conventional extraction gives 18.32% in 120 min. Combination of microwave, ultrasound and the recycled “in situ” water of citrus peels allow us to obtain high added values compounds in shorter time and managed to make a closed loop using only natural resources provided by the plant which makes the whole process intensified in term of time and energy saving, cleanliness and reduced waste water.  相似文献

In the process of steel manufacture, up to ten millions of tons of sintering dust (SD) are produced annually in China, which contain noble metals such as Ag. Therefore, recovery of silver (Ag) from SD could be a potential economic and environmental activity. The purpose of this article is to generate information about reaction kinetics of silver leaching with thiourea from SD, comparing the conventional and ultrasonic-augment leaching. The effects of various control parameters such as the ultrasound power, particle size, leaching temperature and thiourea concentration on leaching rate of silver were studied. The results showed 89% silver recovery for conventional process against 95% for ultrasound assisted leaching. The ultrasonic wave increased the leaching rate and shorten the reaction time. The rate controlling step was analyzed using shrinking core model and the rate controlling step is identified to be the diffusion through the product layer in both conventional and ultrasonic-augment leaching processes. The activation energies were estimated to be 28.01 kJ/mol and 18.19 kJ/mol, and the reaction order were 0.89 and 0.71, respectively.  相似文献

In recent years, chemistry in flowing systems has become more prominent as a method of carrying out chemical transformations, ranging in scale from microchemistry up to kilogram-scale processes. Compared to classic batch ultrasound reactors, flow reactors stand out for their greater efficiency and flexibility as well as lower energy consumption. This paper presents a new ultrasonic flow reactor developed in our laboratory, a pilot system well suited for reaction scale up. This was applied to the transesterification of soybean oil with methanol for biodiesel production. This reaction is mass-transfer-limited initially because the two reactants are immiscible with each other, then because the glycerol phase separates together with most of the catalyst (Na or K methoxide). In our reactor a mixture of oil (1.6 L), methanol and sodium methoxide 30% in methanol (wt/wt ratio 80:19.5:0.5, respectively) was fully transesterified at about 45 °C in 1 h (21.5 kHz, 600 W, flow rate 55 mL/min). The same result could be achieved together with a considerable reduction in energy consumption, by a two-step procedure: first a conventional heating under mechanical stirring (30 min at 45 °C), followed by ultrasound irradiation at the same temperature (35 min, 600 W, flow rate 55 mL/min).Our studies confirmed that high-throughput ultrasound applications definitively require flow reactors.  相似文献

Zerovalent iron (ZVI) has been demonstrated to be suitable for the dehalogenation of environmental pollutants such as chloroethenes. The construction of ZVI reactive barriers by conventional engineering measures is expensive and limited to shallow aquifers. The use of nanosized ZVI particles opens new opportunities to construct ZVI barriers with less invasive techniques. However, nanosized particles of pure ZVI are pyrophoric and react spontaneously with atmospheric oxygen. In this study, nanosized air-stable ZVI particles were produced by applying ultrasound to a solution of Fe(CO)5 in edible oil. The resulting iron nanoparticles were dispersed in a carbon matrix, and coated with a non-crystalline carbon layer of approx. 2.5 nm. Although, these nanoparticles are non-pyrophoric and stable in air, dechlorination of tetrachloroethene was demonstrated in synthetic aqueous medium and in polluted groundwater. Additionally, hydrogen was formed. Due to the larger surface area, significantly higher mass-normalized reaction rates of the novel carbon-coated nanoparticles were obtained as compared to conventional bulk ZVI material. Surface normalized pseudo-first-order-reaction rates of kSA = 3.49 × 10?3 L h?1 m?2 and 2.33 × 10?2 L h?1 m?2 were calculated for the nano-ZVI and the bulk ZVI, respectively. Dechlorination reaction products of the novel nano-ZVI were trichloroethene, cis-dichloroethene, vinyl chloride, ethene, and ethane.  相似文献

In this paper, extraction of resinoid from the aerial parts of white lady’s bedstraw (Galium mollugo L.) using an aqueous ethanol solution (50% by volume) was studied at different temperatures in the absence and the presence of ultrasound. This study indicated that ultrasound-assisted extraction was effective for extracting the resinoid and gave better resinoid yields at lower extraction temperature and in much shorter time than the maceration. A phenomenological model was developed for modeling the kinetics of the extraction process. The model successfully describes the two-step extraction consisting of washing followed by diffusion of extractable substances and shows that ultrasound influences only the first step. The extraction process was optimized using response surface methodology (RMS) and artificial neural network (ANN) models. For the former modeling, the second-order polynomial equation was applied, while the second one was performed by an ANN-GA combination. The high coefficient of determination and the low MRPD between the ANN prediction and the corresponding experimental data proved that modeling the extraction process in the absence and the presence of ultrasound using ANN was more accurate than RSM modeling. The optimum extraction temperature was determined to be 80 and 40 °C, respectively for the maceration and the ultrasound-assisted extraction, ensuring the highest resinoid yield of 22.0 g/100 g in 4 h and 25.1 g/100 g in 30 min, which agreed with the yields obtained experimentally for the same time (21.7 and 25.3 g/100 g, respectively).  相似文献

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is a highly contaminating wastewater due to its high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Conventional treatment methods require longer residence time (10–15 days) and higher operating cost. Owing to this, finding a suitable and efficient method for the treatment of POME is crucial. In this investigation, ultrasound cavitation technology has been used as an alternative technique to treat POME. Cavitation is the phenomenon of formation, growth and collapse of bubbles in a liquid. The end process of collapse leads to intense conditions of temperature and pressure and shock waves which assist various physical and chemical transformations. Two different ultrasound systems i.e. ultrasonic bath (37 kHz) and a hexagonal triple frequency ultrasonic reactor (28, 40 and 70 kHz) of 15 L have been used. The results showed a fluctuating COD pattern (in between 45,000 and 60,000 mg/L) while using ultrasound bath alone, whereas a non-fluctuating COD pattern with a final COD of 27,000 mg/L was achieved when hydrogen peroxide was introduced. Similarly for the triple frequency ultrasound reactor, coupling all the three frequencies resulted into a final COD of 41,300 mg/L compared to any other individual or combination of two frequencies. With the possibility of larger and continuous ultrasonic cavitational reactors, it is believed that this could be a promising and a fruitful green process engineering technique for the treatment of POME.  相似文献
