Sludge dewatering has proven to be an effective method to reduce the volume of sludge. In this study, drinking water treatment sludge (DWTS) was treated by ultra-sonication under variable conditions comparing two sonoreactor types (bath and probe), four frequencies (25, 40, 68, 160 kHz) and four energy density levels (0.03, 1, 3, 5 W/mL). The effects of these conditions were studied using specific resistance to filtration and capillary suction time as measures of dewaterability, and floc size, the Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) specific surface area and Zeta potential to determine treated sludge characteristics. The results indicated that the dewaterability of sonicated sludge improved at relatively low energy densities of 0.03 and 1.0 W/mL, while an optimum for sonication duration (within 10 min) was also identified. Higher frequencies (tested up to 160 kHz) with acoustic energy density of 0.03 W/mL also reduced the dewatering property. At higher energy densities of 3.0 and 5.0 W/mL, dewaterability of sludge deteriorated regardless of ultra-sonication time, with an increase of solubilized organic matter content and severely changed floc characteristics. The deterioration of the dewatering capacity was closely related to the considerably reduced floc sizes, dissolution of proteins and polysaccharides, and to the Zeta potential of sonicated sludge flocs. The dewaterability was not correlated with BET specific surface area. Mechanistic explanations for the observations were discussed by analyzing corrosion patterns of aluminum foil as a measure for cavitation field distribution.  相似文献

This paper describes a novel method for on-line real-time data reduction of radiofrequency (RF) ultrasound signals. The approach is based on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) system intended mainly for steel thickness measurements. Ultrasound data reduction is desirable when: (1) direct measurements performed by an operator are not accessible; (2) it is required to store a considerable amount of data; (3) the application requires measuring at very high speeds; and (4) the physical space for the embedded hardware is limited. All the aforementioned scenarios can be present in applications such as pipeline inspection where data reduction is traditionally performed on-line using pipeline inspection gauges (PIG). The method proposed in this work consists of identifying and storing in real-time only the time of occurrence (TOO) and the maximum amplitude of each echo present in a given RF ultrasound signal. The method is tested with a dedicated immersion system where a significant data reduction with an average of 96.5% is achieved.  相似文献

Ultrasounds represent an effective technology in many research fields. In sewage sludge treatment, low-frequency ultrasound, particularly at 20 kHz, are widely used for sludge disintegration before the anaerobic digestion, while in the last years novel application of high-frequency ultrasound regards the decontamination of water and wastewater through sonochemical reactions. The innovative approach presented in this paper is the treatment of sewage sludge with ultrasound at 200 kHz for obtaining efficient sludge disintegration and the removal of the linear alkylbenzenesulphonates (LAS) at the same time. Results of the sonolysis experiments showed that native LAS degradation up to 40% can be achieved with low power input in less than 1 h. The degradation pattern was different for each LAS homologue (from C10 to C13), because of their physical-chemical properties, in particular as regards the alkyl chain length. This high-frequency ultrasound irradiation resulted effective also in terms of floc disintegration and soluble organic matter release, in particular for energy inputs higher than 30,000 kJ/kg TS. The disrupting effect of the 200 kHz treatment was also evaluated by microscope analyses and determination of the extracellular polymeric substances release in the liquid phase.  相似文献

The decoloration of reactive dye C.I. Reactive Blue 19 (RB 19) using combined ultrasound with the Fenton process has been investigated. The effect of varying the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and iron sulfate, initial pH, ultrasonic power, initial dye concentration and dissolved gas on the decoloration and degradation efficiencies was measured. Calibration of the ultrasound systems was performed using calorimetric measurements and oxidative species monitoring using the Fricke dosimeter and degradations were carried out with a 20 kHz probe type transducer at 2, 4, 6 and 8 W cm−2 of acoustic intensity at 15, 25, 50 and 75 mg L−1 initial dye concentrations. First order rate kinetics was observed. It was found that while the degradation rate due to ultrasound alone was slow, sonication significantly accelerated the Fenton reaction. While the results were similar to those reported for other dyes, the effects occurred at lower concentrations. The rate and extent of decoloration of RB 19 increased with rising hydrogen peroxide concentration, ultrasonic powers and iron sulfate concentration but decreased with increasing dye concentration. An optimum pH value of pH = 3.5 was found. The rate of decoloration was higher when dissolved oxygen was present as compared with nitrogen and argon confirming the solution phase mechanism of the degradation.  相似文献

A lab-scale ultrasound enhancing Anammox reactor (R1) was established and irradiated once a week by ultrasound with the optimal parameter (frequency of 25 kHz, intensity of 0.2 W cm−2 and exposure time of 3 min) obtained by batch experiments. R1 and the controlled Anammox reactor (R2) without exposure to the ultrasound were operated in parallel. The start-up period of Anammox process (53 days) in R1 was shorter than that (61 days) in R2. The nitrogen loading-enhancing period (day 53-day 135) in R1 was also shorter than that (day 61-day 151) in R2. At the end of the nitrogen loading-enhancing period, NLR (0.76 kg N m−3 d−1) and NRR (0.68 kg N m−3 d−1) of R1 were both higher than NLR (0.66 kg N m−3 d−1) and NRR (0.56 kg N m−3 d−1) of R2. Moreover, The stability of Anammox process in R1 was better than that in R2. The results demonstrated that the periodical irradiation of ultrasound enhanced the start-up and operational performance of Anammox reactor. Microbial community analysis indicated that the ultrasound accelerated the microbial succession from some other bacteria to Anammox bacteria so that shorten the start-up period of Anammox process from the conventional activated sludge. It also indicated that the ultrasound strengthened the competitive advantage of Candidatus Kuenenia stuttgartiensis in Anammox bacteria of the mature sludge so as to enhance the nitrogen removal performance of the Anammox reactor under the operation condition of high nitrogen loading.  相似文献

Pesticides have been the major contributors to the growth of agricultural productivity, but the wide spread use in the fields and discharge from the manufacturing industries have also contributed to environmental concerns. In the present work, degradation of triazophos (O,O-diethyl-O-(1-phenyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) phosphorothioate) as a model pollutant has been investigated using high volume continuous ultrasonic flow cell for the first time. Effect of power dissipation and initial pH on the extent of triazophos degradation using acoustic cavitation has been investigated initially. Under the optimized set of operating power dissipation and pH, effect of addition of hydrogen peroxide (ratio of C12H16N3O3PS (Triazophos):H2O2 over the range of 1:1–1:5), ozone (over the flow rate of 100–400 mg/h) and Fenton’s reagent (C12H16N3O3PS:FeSO4:H2O2 ratio over the range of 1:1:1–1:4:4) has been investigated as possible process intensification strategy. Combined operation of US with H2O2 and Ozone resulted in 48.6% and 54.6% triazophos degradation respectively whereas combination of US and Fenton’s reagent resulted in maximum degradation as 92.2% and also resulted in maximum COD removal as 88.5%. The study also focused on identification of intermediate products formed during the degradation as well as establishing the kinetic rate constants and the synergistic index for different approaches. The study has established that cavitation can be effectively used for triazophos degradation with significant intensification benefits based on the use of combination approach.  相似文献

Water is one of the major sources that spread human diseases through contamination with bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms. This review focuses on microbial hazards as they are often present in water and wastewater and cause various human diseases. Among the currently used disinfection methods, sonochemical reactors (SCRs) that produce free radicals combined with advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have received significant attention from the scientific community. Also, this review discussed various types of cavitation reactors, such as acoustic cavitation reactors (ACRs) utilizing ultrasonic energy (UE), which had been widely employed, involving AOPs for treating contaminated waters. Besides ACRs, hydrodynamic cavitation reactors (HCRs) also effectively destroy and deactivate microorganisms to varying degrees. Cavitation is the fundamental phenomenon responsible for initiating many sonochemical reactions in liquids. Bacterial degradation occurs mainly due to the thinning of microbial membranes, local warming, and the generation of free radicals due to cavitation. Over the years, although extensive investigations have focused on the antimicrobial effects of UE (ultrasonic energy), the primary mechanism underlying the cavitation effects in the disinfection process, inactivation of microbes, and chemical reactions involved are still poorly understood. Therefore, studies under different conditions often lead to inconsistent results. This review investigates and compares other mechanisms and performances from greener and environmentally friendly sonochemical techniques to the remediation of microbial hazards associated with water and wastewater. Finally, the energy aspects, challenges, and recommendations for future perspectives have been provided.  相似文献

The generation of cavitation fields for the pre-treatment of anaerobic sludge was studied by means of a novel acoustic measuring system. The influence of different reactor dimensions (i.e., choosing reaction chamber widths of 40, 60 and 80 mm) on the cavitation intensity was determined at various solid contents, flow rates and static pressures. Results suggest that the cavitation intensity is significantly reduced by the sonication of liquids with a high solid content. By increasing the pressure to 1 bar, the intensity of bubble implosions can be enhanced and the sound attenuation in the solid fraction is partly compensated compared to ambient pressure. However, a further increase in pressure to 2 bars has a detrimental effect due to the suppression of powerful bubbles. A reduction of the reactor gap permits an intensification of the treatment of waste activated sludge (WAS) by concentrating the ultrasound power from 6 to 18 dB. This effect is less relevant in digested sludge (DS) with its markedly lower total solids content (2.2% vs. 6.9% of solids in WAS). Increasing the flow rate, resulting in a flow velocity of up to 7 m/min, has no influence on the cavitation intensity. By adapting the reactor design and the static pressure to the substrate characteristics, the intensity of the sonication can be notably improved. This allows the design of sonication devices that are suitable for the intensive treatment of wastewater sludge.  相似文献

In this study, ultrasound application at two different frequencies (37 or 80 kHz) and durations (15 or 30 min) was used as a pre-treatment for raw broiler breasts, and its effect on cooling, color, textural and sensory characteristics of cooked broiler breasts during vacuum cooling process was determined. The anterior and posterior parts of broiler breast halves were carefully removed, and these parts with a 20 mm width were named as the regions A and B, respectively. Both regions were vacuum-packed and pre-treated by ultrasound, followed by oven-cooking in aluminum foils, and cooling time, weight loss and temperature distribution characteristics were determined. Besides sensory and textural properties, the effect of the ultrasound pre-treatment on the pH, dry matter and ash contents and color (CIELAB) values of cooked breasts was determined. During vacuum cooling, ultrasound pre-treatment significantly reduced cooling time required to cool cooked broiler breasts from 85 °C to 12.5 °C, and the lowest values for the regions A and B were obtained for the 30 min ultrasound pre-treatment at 37 kHz as 12.72 and 14.61 min, respectively (p < 0.05). The cooling losses of breasts from the regions A and B were 12.64 and 11.61%, respectively. In comparison to immersion pre-treatment, increasing the frequency and duration of ultrasound pre-treatment generally decreased cooking loss values for both A and B regions while cooling loss increased. Instrumental hardness values of breast samples for the 15 min ultrasound pre-treatment decreased while they increased with the 30 min pre-treatment (p < 0.05) at both frequencies. The redness values (a*) increased by ultrasound pre-treatment while the highest value was found for a 30 min pre-treatment at 80 kHz for both regions. Sensory hardness (on a 14.5 cm scale) results indicated that the highest value (9.33) was determined for a 30 min ultrasound pre-treatment at 37 kHz while the ultrasound pre-treatment at 37 kHz for 15 min had no negative effect on hardness compared to control samples (p > 0.05). In conclusion, ultrasound pre-treatment can be successfully used for the vacuum cooling process of broiler breasts for the reduction of cooling time, and a 30 min ultrasound pre-treatment at 37 kHz can provide relatively superior cooling characteristics.  相似文献

Pt rare earth–C electrocatalysts (rare earth = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Lu) were prepared by an alcohol reduction process using ethylene glycol as reduction agent and solvent and Vulcan XC 72 as support. The electrocatalysts were characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and cyclic voltammetry. The electrooxidation of ethanol was studied in acid medium by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry using thin porous coating technique. The XRD patterns indicate that all electrocatalysts present the face-centered cubic structure of Pt and the presence of rare earth hydroxides. All electrocatalysts prepared by this methodology showed superior performance for ethanol electrooxidation at room temperature compared to Pt–C.  相似文献

The aim of the virgin olive oil extraction process is mainly to obtain the best quality oil from fruits, by only applying mechanical actions while guaranteeing the highest overall efficiency. Currently, the mechanical methods used to extract virgin oils from olives are basically of two types: the discontinuous system (obsolete) and the continuous one. Anyway the system defined as “continuous” is composed of several steps which are not all completely continuous, due to the presence of the malaxer, a device that works in batch. The aim of the paper was to design, realize and test the first full scale sono-exchanger for the virgin olive oil industry, to be placed immediately after the crusher and before the malaxer. The innovative device is mainly composed of a triple concentric pipe heat exchanger combined with three ultrasound probes. This mechanical solution allows both the cell walls (which release the oil droplets) along with the minor compounds to be destroyed more effectively and the heat exchange between the olive paste and the process water to be accelerated. This strategy represents the first step towards the transformation of the malaxing step from a batch operation into a real continuous process, thus improving the working capacity of the industrial plants. Considering the heterogeneity of the olive paste, which is composed of different tissues, the design of the sono-exchanger required a thorough fluid dynamic analysis. The thermal effects of the sono-exchanger were monitored by measuring the temperature of the product at the inlet and the outlet of the device; in addition, the measurement of the pigments concentration in the product allowed monitoring the mechanical effects of the sono-exchanger. The effects of the innovative process were also evaluated in terms of extra virgin olive oil yields and quality, evaluating the main legal parameters, the polyphenol and tocopherol content. Moreover, the activity of the polyphenol oxidase enzyme in the olive paste was measured.  相似文献

In this current study, we present a modified hydrodynamic cavitation device that combines an electric field to substitute for the chemical addition. A modified HC system is basically an orifice plate and crisscross pipe assembly, in which the crisscross pipe imparts some turbulence, which creates collision events. This study shows that for maximizing disintegration, combining HC system, which called electric field-assisted modified orifice plate hydrodynamic cavitation (EFM-HC) in this study, with an electric field is important. Various HC systems were compared in terms of disintegration of WAS, and, among them, the EFM-HC system exhibited the best performance with the highest disintegration efficiency of 47.0 ± 2.0% as well as the destruction of WAS morphological characteristics. The experimental results clearly show that a conventional HC system was successfully modified. In addition, electric field has a great potential for efficient disintegration of WAS for as a additional option in a combination treatment. This study suggests continued research in this field may lead to an appropriate design for commercial use.  相似文献

To obtain greater knowledge on the stability of phenolic acids for the application of FSFP ultrasound technique in the extraction, the sonochemical effects of ultrasonic factors were investigated. The kinetic model and mechanism of degradation reaction were developed and identified by FT-IR and HPLC-ESIMS. The results showed that caffeic and sinapic acids were degraded under FSFP ultrasound treatment. The ultrasonic temperature, frequency, sweep range, sweep cycle, and pulse ratio were proved to be important factors in affecting the degradation rates of caffeic and sinapic acids. Relatively high temperature, frequency away from the resonance frequency, narrow sweep range, moderate sweep cycle, and relatively low or high pulse ratio were recommended to maintain high stability of caffeic and sinapic acids. The degradation kinetics of these two phenolic acids under FSFP ultrasound treatment were conformed to zeroth-order reaction at 10–50 °C. Moreover, FSFP ultrasound had a stronger sonochemical effect on sinapic acid than caffeic acid. The FT-IR and HPLC-ESIMS proved that decomposition and polymerization reactions occurred when caffeic and sinapic acids were subjected to FSFP ultrasound. Degradation products, such as the corresponding decarboxylation products and their dimers, were tentatively identified.  相似文献

There are many problems associated with the synthesis of nanocatalysts and catalytic reduction of nitroarenes - e.g., high temperatures, costs, long reaction/synthesis process times, the toxicity of chemicals/solvents, undesirable byproducts, the toxic/harmful wastes, low efficiency/selectivity, etc. This study represents an attempt to overcome these challenges. To this purpose, biocompatible and highly efficient Ag2Se quantum dots (QDs) catalysts with antibacterial activity were synthesized in a very rapid (30 sec, rt), simple, inexpensive, sustainable/green, and one-pot strategy in water using ultrasonic irradiation. Characterization of the QDs was performed using different techniques. UV–Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic studies showed an absorption peak at 480–550 nm and a maximum emission peak around 675 nm, which confirmed the successful synthesis of Ag2Se QDs via the applied biosynthetic method. Subsequently, catalytic reduction of nitroarenes by them was carried out under safe conditions (H2O, rt, air atmosphere) in ∼ 60 min with excellent yield and selectivity (>99%). Their catalytic activity in the reduction of various toxic nitroarenes to aminoarenes under green conditions was investigated. Thus, a rapid and safe ultrasound-based method was employed to prepare stable and green Ag2Se QDs phyto-catalysts with unique properties, including exquisite monodispersity in shape (orthorhombic) and size (∼7 nm), air-stability, and good purity and crystallinity. Importantly, instead of various toxic chemicals, the plant extract obtained by rapid ultrasonic method (10 min, rt) was used as natural reducing, capping, and stabilizing agents. Moreover, antibacterial assays results showed that Ag2Se-QDs catalysts at low concentrations (ppm) have high activity against all tested bacteria, especially E. coli (MIC:31.25 ppm, MBC:125 ppm) which were significantly different from those of Fig extract (MIC = MBC:500 ppm). The data reflect the role of these bio-synthesized Ag2Se-QDs catalysts in the development of versatile and very safe catalysts with biomedical properties.  相似文献

In this paper, TiN/AlO_x gated Al Ga N/Ga N metal–oxide–semiconductor heterostructure field-effect transistors(MOSHFETs) were fabricated for gate-first process evaluation. By employing a low temperature ohmic process, ohmic contact can be obtained by annealing at 600℃ with the contact resistance approximately 1.6 ?·mm. The ohmic annealing process also acts as a post-deposition annealing on the oxide film, resulting in good device performance. Those results demonstrated that the TiN/AlO_x gated MOS-HFETs with low temperature ohmic process can be applied for self-aligned gate Al Ga N/Ga N MOS-HFETs.  相似文献

Application of hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) was investigated with the objective of biogas production enhancement from co-digestion of oily wastewater (OWW) and waste activated sludge (WAS). Initially, the effect of HC on the OWW was evaluated in terms of energy consumption and turbidity increase. Then, several mixtures of OWW (with and without HC pretreatment) and WAS with the same concentration of total volatile solid were prepared as a substrate for co-digestion. Following, several batch co-digestion trials were conducted. To compare the biogas production, a number of digestion trials were also conducted with a mono substrate (OWW or WAS alone). The best operating condition of HC was achieved in the shortest retention time (7.5 min) with the application of 3 mm diameter orifice and maximum pump rotational speed. Biogas production from all co-digestion reactors was higher than the WAS mono substrate reactors. Moreover, biogas production had a direct relationship with OWW ratio and no major inhibition was observed in any of the reactors. The biogas production was also enhanced by HC pretreatment and almost all of the reactors with HC pretreatment had higher reaction rates than the reactors without pretreatment.  相似文献

This study evaluated how the generation of pyrazines was promoted by high-intensity ultrasound (HIU) in a Maillard reaction (MR) model system of glucose-glycine. Carbohydrate module labeling (CAMOLA) technique was adopted using D-glucose-13C6 to elucidate the carbon skeleton of both intermediate and final MR products (MRPs). In the D-glucose-13C6-glycine HIU-MR model system, the concentration of 11 types of pyrazines was significantly higher than their counterparts in the thermal MR. Results of CAMOLA analysis showed that a significantly lower proportion of [M]+ in pyrazines with long-length side chains was observed when compared with the pyrazines generated in thermal MR. This phenomenon may suggest the aldol-type condensation was promoted by the HIU, which is a conversion from pyrazines with short-length side chains to those with long-length side chains involving carbonyl compounds. Furthermore, the analysis of isotopomers distribution in 2,3-dimethyl-quinoxaline as the o-phenylenediamine-derivatized 2,3-butanedione indicated that the increased proportion of [M + 4]+ in 2,3-dimethyl-quinoxaline (15.74% ± 0.11%) was attributed to a cleavage of D-glucose-13C6 promoted by the HIU. The above-mentioned findings elucidate that the aldol-type condensation and cleavage of D-glucose contribute to the promoted synthesis of pyrazines. The HIU would generate an extremely high temperature and pressure environment that is favored by the aldol-type condensation as a high-pressure favored reaction. The HIU, therefore, can be further developed as a promising technique to promote flavor generation through the MR.  相似文献
