Ultrasound-assisted approach has been investigated for delignification so as to develop green and sustainable technology. Combination of NaOH with ultrasound has been applied with detailed study into effect of various parameters such as time (operating range of 15–90 min), alkali concentration (0.25 M−2.5 M), solvent loading (1:15–1:30 w/v), temperature (50–90 ˚C), power (40–140 W) and duty cycle (40–70 %) at fixed frequency of 20 kHz. The optimized operating conditions established for the ultrasonic horn were 1 M as the NaOH concentration, 1 h as treatment time, 70˚C as the operating temperature, 1:20 as the biomass loading ratio, 100 W as the ultrasonic power and 70% duty cycle yielding 67.30% as the delignification extent. Comparative study performed using conventional and ultrasonic bath assisted alkaline treatment revealed lower delignification as 48.09% and 61.55% respectively. The biomass samples were characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR and BET techniques to establish the role of ultrasound during the treatment. The morphological changes based on the ultrasound treatment demonstrated by SEM were favorable for enhanced delignification and also the crystallinity index was more in the case of ultrasound treated material than that obtained by conventional method. Specific surface area and pore size determinations based on BET analysis also confirmed beneficial role of ultrasound. The overall results clearly demonstrated the intensification obtained due to the use of ultrasonic reactors.  相似文献

Palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is a significant reaction for obtaining industrially important products. The current research work deals with intensification of reaction of 4-bromoanisole and phenylboronic acid catalyzed with 5 wt% Pd/C (5% by weight Pd supported on C available as commercial catalyst) using ultrasound and more importantly, without use of any additional phase transfer catalyst. Heterogeneous catalyst has been selected in the present work so as to harness the benefits of easy separation and the possible limitations of heterogeneous operation are minimized by introducing ultrasonic irradiations. The effect of operating parameters such as ultrasound power, temperature, catalyst loading and molar ratio on the progress of reaction has been investigated. It has been observed that an optimum power, temperature and catalyst loading exist for maximum benefits whereas higher molar ratio was found to be favourable for the progress of the reaction. Also, the use of ultrasound reduced the reaction time from 70 min required in conventional approach to only 35 min under conditions of frequency of 22 kHz, power dissipation of 40 W and catalyst loading as 1.5 mol% (refers to total quantum of catalyst used in the work) in ethanol-water system under ambient conditions. The work also demonstrated successful results at ten times higher volume as compared to the normally used volumes in the case of simple ultrasonic horn. Overall, the work has successfully demonstrated process intensification benefits obtained due to the use of ultrasound for heterogeneously catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction.  相似文献

Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is one of the most frequently used analgesic and antipyretic drugs. This work deals with ultrasound assisted synthesis (UAS) of paracetamol from hydroquinone using ammonium acetate as an amidating agent. The optimization of various reaction and ultrasound parameters was performed to minimize the energy and time requirement. UAS of paracetamol was achieved at a lower temperature (60 °C) and the time (150 min) without formation of salt as a byproduct, making reaction green and inherently safer. On the other hand, the conventional process requires high reaction temperature (220 °C) and time (15 h). The quantification of the product was done by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Optimization of parameters revealed that the percent yield of 57.72% can be obtained in 150 min by performing the reaction in the ultrasound bath at 22 kHz frequency, 60 °C temperature, hydroquinone to ammonium acetate and acetic acid in a molar ratio of 1:6:5, 125 W power, 50% duty cycle and agitation speed of 300 RPM. Hence, ultrasound assisted synthesis can be considered as a process intensification tool for the synthesis of paracetamol and possibly other pharmaceutical compounds.  相似文献

Yttria coated graphite crucibles are widely used to handle molten refractory and radioactive metals like uranium and plutonium. However, the coated layer suffers damages like cracking and peeling off owing to thermal cycles. As a result, removal of the yttria layer from the graphite surface is essential to ensure reuse of the crucible and minimization of radioactive waste. The present work investigates intensified dissolution of yttria from the coated graphite samples using ultrasound as a non-destructive decontamination technique to recycle the graphite substrate. The optimum conditions established for maximum dissolution were 8 M as acid strength, frequency of 30 kHz, temperature of 45 °C and power density of 8 W cm−2 that resulted in maximum dissolution of 52% in 30 min. Use of an oxidant H2O2 to the acid, did not yield any improvement in the dissolution kinetics, instead, increased oxidation of the graphite substrate was observed, leading to the anomalous weight gain of the graphite substrate despite surface erosion. Effect of ultrasound on the dissolution was pronounced, with almost a threefold increase compared to dissolution performed under silent conditions. Rates of dissolution of yttria from the substrate of different densities and pore size distribution were also studied. The dissolution was slowest from graphite of density 1.82 g cm−3 as the pore size distribution was conducive to accommodate the yttria particles. The dissolution in nitric acid followed ash layer diffusion controlled kinetics. The study has demonstrated the efficacy of application of ultrasound for accelerated decontamination of graphite substrates.  相似文献

The present work reports on an efficient and simple one pot synthetic approach for aluminium nanoflakes and nanoparticles based on the intensification using ultrasound and provides a comparison with the conventional approach to establish the cutting edge process benefits. In situ passivation of aluminium particles with oleic acid was used as the method of synthesis in both the conventional and ultrasound assisted approaches. The aluminium nanoflakes prepared using the ultrasound assisted approach were subsequently dispersed in di-octyl adipate (DOA) and it was demonstrated that a stable dispersion of aluminium nanoflakes into di-octyl adipate (DOA) is achieved. The morphology of the synthesized material was established using the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and the obtained results confirmed the metal state and nano size range of the obtained aluminium nanoflakes and particles. The stability of the aluminium nanoflakes obtained using ultrasound assisted approach and nanoparticles using conventional approach were characterized using the zeta potential analysis and the obtained values were in the range of −50 to +50 mV and −100 to +30 mV respectively. The obtained samples from both the approaches were also characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and particle size analysis (PSA) to establish the crystallite size and particle distribution. It was observed that the particle size of the aluminium nanoflakes obtained using ultrasound assisted approach was in the range of 7–11 nm whereas the size of aluminium nanoparticles obtained using conventional approach was much higher in the range of 1000–3000 nm. Overall it was demonstrated that the aluminium nanoflakes obtained using the ultrasound assisted approach showed excellent morphological characteristics and dispersion stability in DOA showing promise for the high energy applications.  相似文献

With rising consumer demand for natural products, a greener and cleaner technology, i.e., ultrasound-assisted extraction, has received immense attention given its effective and rapid isolation for nanocellulose compared to conventional methods. Nevertheless, the application of ultrasound on a commercial scale is limited due to the challenges associated with process optimization, high energy requirement, difficulty in equipment design and process scale-up, safety and regulatory issues. This review aims to narrow the research gap by placing the current research activities into perspectives and highlighting the diversified applications, significant roles, and potentials of ultrasound to ease future developments. In recent years, enhancements have been reported with ultrasound assistance, including a reduction in extraction duration, minimization of the reliance on harmful chemicals, and, most importantly, improved yield and properties of nanocellulose. An extensive review of the strengths and weaknesses of ultrasound-assisted treatments has also been considered. Essentially, the cavitation phenomena enhance the extraction efficiency through an increased mass transfer rate between the substrate and solvent due to the implosion of microbubbles. Optimization of process parameters such as ultrasonic intensity, duration, and frequency have indicated their significance for improved efficiency.  相似文献

The current work deals with the value addition of lactose by transforming into hydrolyzed lactose syrup containing glucose and galactose in major proportion using the novel approach of ultrasound assisted acid catalyzed lactose hydrolysis. The hydrolysis of lactose was performed in ultrasonic bath (33 kHz) at 50% duty cycle at different temperatures as 65 °C and 70 °C and two different hydrochloric acid (HCl) concentrations as 2.5 N and 3 N. It was observed that acid concentration, temperature and ultrasonic treatment were the major factors in deciding the time required to achieve ∼90% hydrolysis. The ultrasonic assisted approach resulted in reduction in the reaction time and the extent of intensification was established to be dependent on the temperature, acid concentration and time of ultrasonic exposure. It was observed that the maximum process intensification obtained by introduction of ultrasound in the lactose hydrolysis process performed at 70 °C and 3 N HCl was reduction in the required time for ∼90% hydrolysis from 4 h (without the presence of ultrasound) to 3 h. The scale-up study was also performed using an ultrasonic bath with longitudinal horn (36 kHz as operating frequency) at 50% duty cycle, optimized temperature of 70 °C and acid concentration of 3 N. It was observed that the reaction was faster in the presence of ultrasound and stirring by axial impeller at rpm of 225 ± 25. The time required to complete ∼90% of hydrolysis remained almost the same as observed for small scale study on ultrasonic bath (33 kHz) at 50% duty cycle. The use of recovered lactose from whey samples instead of pure lactose did not result in any significant changes in the progress of hydrolysis, confirming the efficacy of the selected approach. Overall, the work has presented a novel ultrasound assisted approach for intensified lactose hydrolysis.  相似文献

Spent tea (ST) powder is one of the potential sustainable sources available abundantly and can be utilized to produce reducing sugars required for production of platform chemicals. The current study aims at intensifying the reducing sugars production based on ultrasound assisted dilute acid hydrolysis (UADAH). The effects of reaction time, solid liquid ratio, acid concentration and temperature on the yield of reducing sugars were investigated initially for UADAH process based on ultrasonic (US) horn. The highest yield of 24.75 g/L for the reducing sugars was obtained at solid liquid ratio of 1:8, acid concentration of 1% w/v and temperature of 60 °C within 120 min. Use of oxidants like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and Fenton’s reagent to further intensify the production has also been studied. Use of H2O2 at optimum loading of 0.75 g/L resulted in reducing sugars yield of 26.2 g/L within 75 min while using same H2O2 loading with FeSO4 at loading of 0.75 g/L along with UADAH reduced the reaction time to 60 min for almost similar yield. Large scale studies performed using US flow cell revealed that yield of reducing sugars as 22.4 g/L is obtained in 120 min in the case of only UADAH, while in the case of UADAH along with H2O2 and Fenton’s reagent, similar yield of reducing sugars was obtained in only 90 and 60 min respectively. UADAH in combination with oxidants has been demonstrated as an effective and intensified approach to produce reducing sugars from spent tea powder available as sustainable source.  相似文献

The extracting technology including ultrasonic and microwave assisted extraction (UMAE) and ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE) of lycopene from tomato paste were optimized and compared. The results showed that the optimal conditions for UMAE were 98 W microwave power together with 40 KHz ultrasonic processing, the ratio of solvents to tomato paste was 10.6:1 (V/W) and the extracting time should be 367 s; as for UAE, the extracting temperature was 86.4 °C, the ratio of the solvents to tomato paste was 8.0:1 (V/W) and the extracting time should be 29.1 min, while the percentage of lycopene yield was 97.4% and 89.4% for UMAE and UAE, respectively. These results implied that UMAE was far more efficient extracting method than UAE.  相似文献

In view of the increasing demand for rare-earth elements (REE) in many areas of high technology, alternative methods for the extraction of these elements have been developed. In this work, a process based on the use of ultrasound for the extraction of REE from carbonatite (an igneous rock) is proposed to avoid the use of concentrated reagents, high temperature and excessive extraction time. In this pioneer work for REE extraction from carbonatite rocks in a preliminary investigation, ultrasonic baths, cup horn systems or ultrasound probes operating at different frequencies and power were evaluated. In addition, the power released to the extraction medium and the ultrasound amplitude were also investigated and the temperature and carbonatite mass/volume of extraction solution ratio were optimized to 70 °C and 20 mg/mL, respectively. Better extraction efficiencies (82%) were obtained employing an ultrasound probe operating at 20 kHz for 15 min, ultrasound amplitude of 40% (692 W dm−3) and using a diluted extraction solution (3% v/v HNO3 + 2% v/v HCl). It is important to mention that high extraction efficiency was obtained even using a diluted acid mixture and relatively low temperature in comparison to conventional extraction methods for REE. A comparison of results with those obtained by mechanical stirring (500 rpm) using the same conditions (time, temperature and extraction solution) was carried out, showing that the use of ultrasound increased the extraction efficiency up to 35%. Therefore, the proposed ultrasound-assisted procedure can be considered as a suitable alternative for high efficiency extraction of REE from carbonatite rocks.  相似文献

When immiscible liquids are subjected to an ultrasonic field, they form emulsions. This principle has been used to improve the mass transfer characteristics of a liquid-liquid extraction process in microreactor systems. The formation of emulsion and its characteristics are prominently dependent on the properties of the liquids used and this also holds true for emulsion brought about by ultrasound. This paper focuses on the properties of fluids that are reported to have an influence on the cavitation behaviour, namely viscosity, interfacial tension and vapour pressure. These properties were examined by changing the solvent of the organic phase in the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl acetate. The study is performed by comparing pairs of solvents that are different in one property but similar in the other two. The pairs selected are toluene – chlorobenzene for viscosity, toluene – methyl Isobutyl ketone for interfacial tension and methyl isobutyl ketone – 2-Methyl tetrahydrofuran for vapour pressure effects. A qualitative study was performed with a high-speed camera in flow to understand the emulsification initiation mechanisms and behaviours. These findings were further explored by performing the sonicated emulsion in a batch-sonicated reactor. The quantitative analysis of the fluid properties was evaluated and compared based on the relative percentage increase in yield upon sonication with respect to their individual silent conditions. The quantitative results were further supported by the quantification of the emulsion performed with an FBRM probe. The results indicate a two times improvement in yield with solvent of lower viscosity as 2 times more droplets were formed in the emulsion. Both the solvent systems with higher interfacial tension and vapour pressure had an improved yield of 1.4 times owing to larger number of droplets formed.  相似文献

The use of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as a new extraction medium is a step towards the development of green and sustainable technology. In the present study, nine DESs based on choline chloride acids, alcohols, and sugar were screened to study the extraction of curcuminoids from Curcuma longa L. Choline chloride and lactic acid DES at 1:1 M ratio gave the maximum extent of extraction. Further, DES based extraction was intensified using ultrasound. The impact of various process parameters such as % (v/v) water in DES, % (w/v) solid loading, particle size, ultrasound power intensity, and pulse mode operation of ultrasound was studied. The maximum curcuminoids yield of 77.13 mg/g was achieved using ultrasound assisted DES (UA-DES) based extraction in 20% water content DES at 5% solid loading and 0.355 mm particle size with 70.8 W/cm2 power intensity and 60% (6 sec ON and 4 sec OFF) duty cycle at 30 ± 2 °C in 20 min of irradiation time. Kinetics of UA-DES extraction was explained using Peleg’s model and concluded that it is compatible with the experimental data. Additionally, anti-solvent (water) precipitation technique was applied, which resulted in 41.97% recovery of curcuminoids with 82.22% purity from UA-DES extract in 8 h of incubation at 0 °C. The comparison was made between conventional Soxhlet, batch, DES and UA-DES based processes on the basis of yield, time, solvent requirement, temperature, energy consumption, and process cost. The developed UA-DES based extraction can be an efficient, cost effective, and green alternative to conventional solvent extraction for curcuminoids.  相似文献

From the recent market trend, there is a huge demand for the bioactive compounds from various food matrices that could be capable enough to combat the emerging health effects in day-to-day life. Fenugreek is a well-known spice from ancient times for its medicinal and health benefits. In the present study, two methods of green extraction microwave (MAE) and ultrasound (UAE) assisted were studied in regard of extraction of fenugreek diosgenin. In this study, solvent type (acetone, ethanol, hexane and petroleum ether), solvent concentration (40, 60, 80 and 100%) and treatment time (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 min and 30, 40, 50 and 60 min for MAE and UAE method respectively) was varied to observe the effect of these parameters over extract yield and diosgenin content. The results of this study revealed that treatment time, type of solvent and its concentration and method adopted for extraction of diosgenin has significant effect. In relation with better yield extract and diosgenin content, the yield of fenugreek seed extract was 7.83% with MAE and 21.48% with UAE of fenugreek seed powder at 80% ethanol concentration at 6 and 60 min respectively. The content of diosgenin was observed in fenugreek seed powder extract was 35.50 mg/100 g in MAE and 40.37 mg/100 g in UAE with 80% ethanol concentration at 6 and 60 min respectively. The overall range of yield of fenugreek extract was varied from 1.04% to 32.48% and diosgenin content was 15.82 mg/100 g to 40.37 mg/100 g of fenugreek seed powder including both extraction methods. This study revealed that UAE would impose better ways for preparing fenugreek extract and observing diosgenin content from fenugreek seeds.  相似文献

The present study optimized the ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE) conditions to maximize the antioxidant activity [Ferric ion Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP)], total phenol content (TP) and content of individual polyphenols of extracts from marjoram. Optimal conditions with regard to amplitude of sonication (24.4-61.0 μm) and extraction temperature (15-35 °C) and extraction time (5-15 min) were identified using response surface methodology (RSM). The results showed that the combined treatment conditions of 61 μm, 35 °C and 15 min were optimal for maximizing TP, FRAP, rosmarinic acid, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, apigenin-7-O-glucoside, caffeic acid, carnosic acid and carnosol values of the extracts. The predicted values from the developed quadratic polynomial equation were in close agreement with the actual experimental values with low average mean deviations (E%) ranging from 0.45% to 1.55%. The extraction yields of the optimal UAE were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than solid/liquid extracts. Predicted models were highly significant (p < 0.05) for all the parameters studied with high regression coefficients (R2) ranging from 0.58 to 0.989.  相似文献

Ultrasonic enhancement of the supercritical extraction from ginger   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
This work examines the concurrent use of power ultrasound during the extraction of pungent compounds from a typical herb (ginger) with supercritical CO2. A power ultrasonic transducer with an operating frequency of 20 kHz is connected to an extraction vessel and the extraction of gingerols from freeze-dried ginger particles (4–8 mm) is monitored. In the presence of ultrasound, we find that both the extraction rate and the yield increase. The higher extraction rate is attributed to disruption of the cell structures and an increase in the accessibility of the solvent to the internal particle structure, which enhances the intra-particle diffusivity. While cavitation would readily account for such enhancement in ambient processes, the absence of phase boundaries should exclude such phenomena above the critical point. Possible alternate mechanisms for the cell structure damage are discussed.  相似文献

In this work, multi-frequency ultrasound (working modes for the single-, dual- and tri-frequency in simultaneous ways) was applied to extract bioactive compounds from purple eggplant peels. The single-factor experiments were performed by varying six independent variables. A six-level-five-factor uniform design (UD) was further employed to evaluate the interaction effects between different factors. It was found that extraction temperature and extraction time significantly affected the total phenolic content (TPC), whereas the total monomeric anthocyanins (TMA) was mainly influenced by ethanol concentration, extraction temperature and solid-liquid ratio. Based on partial least-squares (PLS) regression analysis, the optimal conditions for TPC extraction were: 53.6 % ethanol concentration, 0.336 mm particle size, 44.5 °C extraction temperature, 35.2 min extraction time, 1:43 g/mL solid-liquid ratio, and similar optimal conditions were also obtained for TMA. Furthermore, the TPC and TMA extraction were investigated by ultrasound in different frequencies and power levels. Compared with single-frequency (40 kHz) and dual-frequency ultrasound (25 + 40 kHz), the extraction yield of TPC and TMA with tri-frequency ultrasound (25 + 40 + 70 kHz) increased by 23.65 % and 18.76 % respectively, which suggested the use of multi-frequency ultrasound, especially tri-frequency ultrasound, is an efficient strategy to improve the TPC and TMA extracts in purple eggplant peels.  相似文献

Macroalgae have a tremendous potential to become an important renewable resource for valuable biomolecules and chemicals. New and improved ways of cell disruption and of enhancing rate as well as yield of extraction of valuable products from macroalgae are needed to fully realise this potential. In this work, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) was used for intensifying rate and yield of extraction of phycoerythrin, proteins and carbohydrates from marine macroalgae Palmaria palmata. We use vortex-based HC devices which do not use small restrictions like orifice-based HC devices or moving parts like rotor–stator based HC devices. A bench scale setup with a nominal slurry flow rate of 20 LPM was established. Dried and powdered macroalgae was used. Influence of key operating parameters like pressure drop and number of passes on extraction performance (the rate and yield) was measured. A simple, yet effective model was developed and used for interpreting and describing experimental data. The results indicate that there exists an optimum pressure drop across the device at which extraction performance is maximum. The extraction performance with HC was found to be significantly better than the stirred vessels. HC has resulted in 2 to 20 times improvement in the rate of extraction of phycoerythrin (R-PE), proteins and carbohydrates. Based on the results obtained in this work, pressure drop of 200 kPa and number of passes through the HC devices of about 100 were found to be most effective for HC-assisted intensified extraction from macroalgae. The presented results and model will be useful for harnessing vortex-based HC devices for intensifying the extraction of valuable products from macroalgae.  相似文献

Products from plant raw materials gain increasing importance in food-, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry. By way of contrast, due to lack of detailed physico-chemical fundamentals, existing production processes are economically not optimal designed. This leads to a need for deeper understanding of the processes and furthermore a systematic process and equipment design for the potentially applicable extraction techniques.Using the example of polyphenol extraction from black tea (Kenya), the conventional and ultrasound assisted extractions are investigated. Here, the state of the art as well as a comparison between the two techniques is in focus. Especially, resulting quasi-equilibria and mass transport kinetics serves as a criteria. The physico-chemical background is discussed taking particle size distributions and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements into account. Conclusively, process alternatives are projected and discussed. Hence, the present study makes influences of ultrasound technique on physico-chemical characteristics during extraction a subject of discussion.  相似文献

This study aims to investigate effects of ultrasound assisted extraction on the abalone viscera protein extraction rate and iron-chelating activity of peptides. The optimal conditions for ultrasound assisted extraction by response surface methodology was at sodium hydroxide concentration 14 g/kg, ultrasonic power 428 W and extraction time 52 min. Under the optimal conditions, protein extraction rate was 64.89%, compared with alkaline extraction of 55.67%. The iron-chelating activity of peptides affected by ultrasound technology was further evaluated by iron-chelating rate, FTIR spectroscopy and LC-HRMS/MS. Alcalase was the suitable enzyme for the preparation of iron-chelating peptides from two abalone viscera proteins, showing no significant difference between their iron-chelating rate of 16.24% (ultrasound assisted extraction) and 16.60% (alkaline extraction). Iron binding sites from the two hydrolysates include amino and carboxylate terminal groups and peptide bond of the peptide backbone as well as amino, imine and carboxylate from side chain groups. Moreover, 24 iron-chelating peptides were identified from hydrolysate (alcalase, ultrasound assisted extraction), which were different from the 27 iron-chelating peptides from hydrolysate (alcalase, alkaline extraction). This study suggests the application of ultrasound technology in the generation of abalone viscera-derived iron-chelating peptides which have the ability to combat iron deficiency.  相似文献

Fresh apple juice treated with ultrasound (for 0, 30, 60 and 90 min, at 20 °C, 25 kHz frequency) was evaluated for different physico-chemical, Hunter color values, cloud value, antioxidant capacity, scavenging activity on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical, ascorbic acid, total phenolics, flavonoids, flavonols and microbial characteristics. No significant effect of sonication was observed on pH, total soluble solids (°Brix) and titratable acidity of apple juice. Sonication significantly improved ascorbic acid, cloud value, phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity, DPPH free radical scavenging activity and differences in Hunter color values. Moreover, significant reduction in microbial population was observed. Findings of the present study suggested that sonication treatment could improve the quality of apple juice. It may successfully be employed for the processing of apple juice with improved quality and safety from consumer’s health point of view.  相似文献
