P-Ehresmann semigroups are introduced by Jones as a common generalization of Ehresmann semigroups and regular \(*\)-semigroups. Ehresmann semigroups and their semigroup algebras are investigated by many authors in literature. In particular, Stein shows that under some finiteness condition, the semigroup algebra of an Ehresmann semigroup with a left (or right) restriction condition is isomorphic to the category algebra of the corresponding Ehresmann category. In this paper, we generalize this result to P-Ehresmann semigroups. More precisely, we show that for a left (or right) P-restriction locally Ehresmann P-Ehresmann semigroup \(\mathbf{S}\), if its projection set is principally finite, then we can give an algebra isomorphism between the semigroup algebra of \(\mathbf{S}\) and the partial semigroup algebra of the associate partial semigroup of \(\mathbf{S}\). Some interpretations and necessary examples are also provided to show why the above isomorphism dose not work for more general P-Ehresmann semigroups.  相似文献

E-Ehresmann semigroups are a commonly studied generalization of inverse semigroups. They are closely related to Ehresmann categories in the same way that inverse semigroups are related to inductive groupoids. We prove that under some finiteness condition, the semigroup algebra of an E-Ehresmann semigroup is isomorphic to the category algebra of the corresponding Ehresmann category. This generalizes a result of Steinberg who proved this isomorphism for inverse semigroups and inductive groupoids and a result of Guo and Chen who proved it for ample semigroups. We also characterize E-Ehresmann semigroups whose corresponding Ehresmann category is an EI-category and give some natural examples.  相似文献

In a result generalising the Ehresmann–Schein–Nambooripad Theorem relating inverse semigroups to inductive groupoids, Lawson has shown that Ehresmann semigroups correspond to certain types of ordered (small) categories he calls Ehresmann categories. An important special case of this is the correspondence between two-sided restriction semigroups and what Lawson calls inductive categories. Gould and Hollings obtained a one-sided version of this last result, by establishing a similar correspondence between left restriction semigroups and certain ordered partial algebras they call inductive constellations (a general constellation is a one-sided generalisation of a category). We put this one-sided correspondence into a rather broader setting, at its most general involving left congruence D-semigroups (which need not satisfy any semiadequacy condition) and what we call co-restriction constellations, a finitely axiomatized class of partial algebras. There are ordered and unordered versions of our results. Two special cases have particular interest. One is that the class of left Ehresmann semigroups (the natural one-sided versions of Lawson’s Ehresmann semigroups) corresponds to the class of co-restriction constellations satisfying a suitable semiadequacy condition. The other is that the class of ordered left Ehresmann semigroups (which generalise left restriction semigroups and for which semigroups of binary relations equipped with domain operation and the inclusion order are important examples) corresponds to a class of ordered constellations defined by a straightforward weakening of the inductive constellation axioms.  相似文献

\noindent The celebrated construction by Munn of a fundamental inverse semigroup T E from a semilattice E provides an important tool in the study of inverse semigroups. We present here a semigroup C E that plays the T E role for Ehresmann semigroups. Inverse semigroups are Ehresmann, as are those that are adequate, weakly ample or weakly hedged. We describe explicitly the semigroups C E for some specific semilattices E and extract information relating to the corresponding classes of Ehresmann semigroups. October 13, 1999  相似文献

It was shown in [7] that any right reversible, cancellative ordered semigroup can be embedded into an ordered group and as a consequence, it was shown that a commutative ordered semigroup can be embedded into an ordered group if and only if it is cancellative. In this paper we introduce the concept of L-maher and R-maher semigroups and use a technique similar to that used in [7] to show that any left reversible cancellative ordered L or R-maher semigroup can be embedded into an ordered group.  相似文献

Two-sided restriction semigroups and their handed versions arise from a number of sources. Attracting a deal of recent interest, they appear under a plethora of names in the literature. The class of left restriction semigroups essentially provides an axiomatisation of semigroups of partial mappings. It is known that this class admits proper covers, and that proper left restriction semigroups can be described by monoids acting on the left of semilattices. Any proper left restriction semigroup embeds into a semidirect product of a semilattice by a monoid, and moreover, this result is known in the wider context of left restriction categories. The dual results hold for right restriction semigroups. What can we say about two-sided restriction semigroups, hereafter referred to simply as restriction semigroups? Certainly, proper covers are known to exist. Here we consider whether proper restriction semigroups can be described in a natural way by monoids acting on both sides of a semilattice. It transpires that to obtain the full class of proper restriction semigroups, we must use partial actions of monoids, thus recovering results of Petrich and Reilly and of Lawson for inverse semigroups and ample semigroups, respectively. We also describe the class of proper restriction semigroups such that the partial actions can be mutually extendable to actions. Proper inverse and free restriction semigroups (which are proper) have this form, but we give examples of proper restriction semigroups which do not.  相似文献

By asemigroup-theoretical property we mean a property of semigroups which is preserved by isomorphism. Such a property iscategorical if it can be expressed in the language of categories: roughly, without using elements. We show that this is always possible with the proviso that in the case of one-sided properties we cannot refer in categorical terms to a specific side. For example, the property of having aleft identity cannot be described categorically in the category of semigroups, since the functor ()op which takes a semigroup into its “opposite” semigroup is a category automorphism. We show that ()op is the only non-trivial automorphism of the category of semigroups (up to natural equivalence of functors). In other words, the “automorphism group” of the category of semigroups has order two.  相似文献

The setK(G) of all cosets X of a group G, modulo all subgroups of G, forms an inverse semigroup under the multiplication X*Y=smallest coset that constains XY. In this note we show that each inverse semigroup S can be embedded in some coset semigroupK(G). This follows from a result which shows that symmetric inverse semigroups can be embedded in the coset semigroups of suitable symmetric groups. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions on an inverse semigroup S in order that it should be isomorphic to someK(G). This research was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We prove that the category of Clifford semigroups and prehomomorphisms CSP\mathcal{CSP} is isomorphic to a certain subcategory of the category of diagrams over groups. Under this isomorphism, Clifford semigroups are identified with certain functors. As an application of the isomorphism theorem, we show that the category with objects commutative inverse semigroups having the same semilattice of idempotents and with morphisms, the inverse semigroup homomorphisms that fix the semilattice, imbeds into a category of right modules over a certain ring. Also we find a very close relationship between the cohomology groups of a commutative inverse monoid and the cohomology groups of the colimit group of the functor giving the monoid.  相似文献

We prove that four different notions of Morita equivalence for inverse semigroups motivated by C-algebra theory, topos theory, semigroup theory and the theory of ordered groupoids are equivalent. We also show that the category of unitary actions of an inverse semigroup is monadic over the category of étale actions. Consequently, the category of unitary actions of an inverse semigroup is equivalent to the category of presheaves on its Cauchy completion. More generally, we prove that the same is true for the category of closed actions, which is used to define the Morita theory in semigroup theory, of any semigroup with right local units.  相似文献

This is an expository paper in which we explain the basic ideas of topos theory in connection with semigroup theory. We focus mainly on the classifying topos of an inverse semigroup or pseudogroup, and to some extent on creating a dictionary between the language of semigroups and topos theory. We begin with the algebraic theory having to do with inverse semigroups, and then turn to an analysis of pseudogroups using sheaf theory. Our work includes some new material on wide semigroup homomorphisms and their geometric morphisms.

In this paper we introduce a Jensen type functional equation on semigroups and study the Hyers-Ulam stability of this equation. It is proved that every semigroup can be embedded into a semigroup in which the Jensen equation is stable.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we introduce the notion of extension of a numerical semigroup. We provide a characterization of the numerical semigroups whose extensions are all arithmetic and we give an algorithm for the computation of the whole set of arithmetic extension of a given numerical semigroup. As by-product, new explicit formulas for the Frobenius number and the genus of proportionally modular semigroups are obtained.  相似文献

We consider Markov semigroups on the cone of positive finite measures on a complete separable metric space. Such a semigroup extends to a semigroup of linear operators on the vector space of measures that typically fails to be strongly continuous for the total variation norm. First we characterise when the restriction of a Markov semigroup to an invariant L 1-space is strongly continuous. Aided by this result we provide several characterisations of the subspace of strong continuity for the total variation norm. We prove that this subspace is a projection band in the Banach lattice of finite measures, and consequently obtain a direct sum decomposition.  相似文献

The notion of almost left factorizability and the results on almost left factorizable weakly ample semigroups, due to Gomes and the author, are adapted for restriction semigroups. The main result of the paper is that each restriction semigroup is embeddable into an almost left factorizable restriction semigroup. This generalizes a fundamental result of the structure theory of inverse semigroups.  相似文献

The construction by Hall of a fundamental orthodox semigroup W B from a band B provides an important tool in the study of orthodox semigroups. We present here a semigroup S B that plays the role of W B for a class of semigroups having a band of idempotents B. Specifically, the semigroups we consider are weakly B-abundant and satisfy the congruence condition (C). Any orthodox semigroup S with E(S)=B lies in our class. On the other hand, if a semigroup S lies in our class, then S is Ehresmann if and only if B is a semilattice. The Hall semigroup W B is a subsemigroup of S B , as are the (weakly) idempotent connected semigroups V B and U B . We show how the structure of S B can be used to extract information relating to arbitrary weakly B-abundant semigroups with (C). We characterize the ordered semigroups which are decomposable into simple and regular components. We prove that each ordered semigroup which is both regular and intra-regular is decomposable into simple and regular semigroups, and the converse statement also holds. We also prove that an ordered semigroup S is both regular and intra-regular if and only if every bi-ideal of S is an intra-regular (resp. semisimple) subsemigroup of S. An ordered semigroup S is both regular and intra-regular if and only if the left (resp. right) ideals of S are right (resp. left) quasi-regular subsemigroups of S. We characterize the chains of simple and regular semigroups, and we prove that S is a complete semilattice of simple and regular semigroups if and only if S is a semilattice of simple and regular semigroups. While a semigroup which is both π-regular and intra-regular is a semilattice of simple and regular semigroups, this does not hold in ordered semigroups, in general.  相似文献
