Hollow spherical mesoporous silica was synthesized by using sodium silicate as a precursor and a low concentration of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) (0.154 mol dm–3). The resulting hollow spherical particles were characterized with scanning electron microcopy (SEM), small-angle X-ray diffraction (SXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and N2 gas adsorption and desorption techniques. The results showed that regular spherical mesoporous silica could be obtained only if the molar ratio of propanol to CTAB was in the range of approximately 8:1–9:1. The spherical particles were hollow (inside), and the shell consisted of smaller particles with a pore structure of hexagonal symmetry. With an increase of the molar ratio of propanol to CTAB, the distance (a value) between centers of two adjacent pores increased, and the pore structure of mesoporous silica became less ordered. N2 adsorption–desorption curves revealed type IV isotherms and H1 hysteresis loops; with an increase of the molar ratio of propanol to CTAB, the pore size with Barrett–Joyner–Halenda (BJH) diameter of the most probable distribution decreased, but the half peak width of the pore size distribution peak increased  相似文献

The adsorption equilibrium of water on microporous adsorbents (zeolites of NaA-, NaY- and NaX-type as well as their ion exchanged forms) and on mesoporous adsorbents (different silica gels and composite material i.e. silica gel + salt hydrate) has been studied experimentally and theoretically. Using the Dubinin theory of pore filling the characteristic curves of the adsorption systems and other relevant dependences such as isotherms, isobars, isosteres and the curve of the differential heat of adsorption were calculated. For all systems investigated the adsorption were calculated. Aads and the desorption potential Ades of the closed heat storage system were estimated. These values define the working range of the adsorption/desorption cycle and allow to calculate the specific heat storage density Δ hsp. On the basis of Δ hsp the different adsorbents were compared in order to select the optimal porous storage material for a given application. The presented experimental and theoretical investigations show that the adsorption systems water-zeolite and water-composites are promising working pairs for thermochemical heat storage processes for hot tap water supply and space heating of single family dwellings. The advantage of the water-composite system is the low desorption temperature (solar energy) the main shortcoming the low temperature lift. The advantage of the water zeolite system is the high temperature lift, the shortcoming are the relative high desorption temperatures.  相似文献

The mesoporous silica gels impregnated with different metal salts were prepared and studied. The pore structure and specific surface area of adsorbents were evaluated using nitrogen adsorption. Then, the sorption isotherms and dynamics of water vapor were carried out at 303 K and different relative humidity (RH). The temperature programmed desorption experiments were conducted to estimate the activation energy (E d) of water desorption on the silica gels. The results showed that the sorption capacity for water decreased with the increase of the ionic radius (except the calcium ion) and that CaCl2 and LiCl were particularly suitable for use in modification of the mesoporous silica gel to improve their sorption rates and capacities for water vapor at the lower and medium RH (RH < 80%). The larger the average pore diameter and pore volume of the initial silica gels, higher the accrual rates of the water vapor sorption rate and capacity were after modification with hygroscopic salts. The activation energy of the water desorption on the mesoporous silica gel modified by CaCl2 were much higher than that on the silica gel modified by LiCl, because the polarizability of the Ca2+ was higher than that of Li+.  相似文献

Morphological, structural and adsorption characteristics of nanooxides (fumed individual silica, alumina and titania, and composite silica/alumina, silica/titania and alumina/silica/titania) were compared after different treatments (wetting/drying, ball-milling, suspending/drying, heating) at different temperatures (373–1173 K) using low-temperature nitrogen adsorption data. The structural characteristics such as specific surface area (S BET), pore volume (V p), pore (PSD) and particle (PaSD) size distributions (calculated using self-consisting regularization procedure with respect to both PSD and PaSD), fractality, adsorption energy distributions depend differently on heating temperature because desorption of water molecularly and dissociatively adsorbed at a surface and in bulk of primary nanoparticles occurs over a wide temperature range at different rates. These processes affect both structural and energetic characteristics of nanooxides.  相似文献

Nitrogen adsorption–desorption for mesopore characterization requires the using of expensive instrumentation, time‐consuming processes, and the consumption of liquid nitrogen. Herein, a new method is developed to measure the pore parameters through mixing a mesoporous substance with a supersaturated SiO2 colloidal solution at different temperatures, and subsequent rapid measurement of reflection changes of the precipitated liquid photonic crystals. The pore volumes and diameters of mesoporous silica were measured according to the positive correlation between unit mass reflection change (Δλ/m) and pore volume (V), and the negative correlation between average absorption temperature (T) and pore diameter (D). This new approach may provide an alternative method for fast, convenient and economical characterization of mesoporous materials.  相似文献

Water vapor adsorption equilibria on activated carbons typically exhibit hysteresis. The size and shape of the hysteresis loop which separates the adsorption and desorption branches is a strong function of the pore size and interconnectivity of the pores. Neither conventional pore filling models nor statistical thermodynamics approaches provide a means for predicting the extent of hysteresis from only adsorption measurements. This work uses the Kelvin Equation in conjunction with the structural concept of a stochastic pore network to describe measured water isotherms on BPL carbon. Using a pore segment distribution function determined from the adsorption branch, it is shown that totally random assemblies underestimate the extent of hysteresis. It is possible, however, to closely fit the measured BPL-water hysteresis loop using a patchy heterogeneity in which a proportion of the larger pores are preferentially located on the exterior, mid-range pores are concentrated in a sub-surface layer and some large pores form shielded voids behind much smaller pores.Nomenclature p vapor phase partial pressure of sorbate - p sat saturation vapor pressure of sorbate - R gas constant - r pore radius - T absolute temperature - t adsorbed layer thickness - V L molar volume of adsorbed phase - surface tension - contact angle  相似文献

Bifunctional periodic mesoporous organosilica materials with and without cobalt ion incorporation were synthesized by co-condensation of 1,2-bistrimethoxysilylethane (BTME) with 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane (GPTS) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Nitrogen gas adsorption on samples with varying ratios of BTME:GPTS revealed that increasing the amount of GPTS affects pore size, surface area and pore volume as well as shapes of the isotherms and hysteresis loops. The hysteresis loops of the Type IV isotherms obtained for GPTS-modified ethane silica materials (without cobalt ion) change from Type H3 to Type H4 with increasing GPTS content. There is a tendency for pore sizes to change from mesopore to micropore when the amount of GPTS is increased. Isotherms of cobalt ion incorporated GPTS-modified ethane silica materials change from Type IV to Type I with increasing GPTS content. The surface area, pore volume and pore diameter decrease with increasing loading of GPTS as well as after cobalt ion incorporation. Thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis show that the surfactant is removed by solvent extraction. Cobalt ion incorporation is confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy.  相似文献

Nitrogen desorption scanning hysteresis loops (DSHLs) for large-pore MCM-41 silicas (pore diameter from 4.0 to 6.5 nm) are reported for the first time. DSHLs for MCM-41 were compared with those of conventional mesoporous silicas and no appreciable differences were found, although hysteresis loops and DSHLs for the latter were usually broader. Since desorption behavior of conventional porous silicas is appreciably influenced by pore connectivity, the observed similarity in hysteresis behavior suggests single-pore blocking effects for MCM-41 due to variation of pore diameter along its nonintersecting channels. It was also shown that the steepness of nitrogen desorption branches at relative pressures close to 0.4 often results from proximity of the lower pressure limit of adsorption-desorption irreversibility and consequently it is not justified to consider it as an indication of narrow pore size distribution. Thus, application of desorption data in calculations of pore size distributions may be grossly misleading.  相似文献

Abstract

The relationship between the textural properties (pore size, pore volume and surface area) of reversed-phase silica gel packings for HPLC and the dynamic loading capacity of large biomolecules was studied by using silica gels manufactured by similar processes. Several silica gels whose unbonded pore diameters range from 100 to 250 A and whose pore volumes range from 1.0 to 1.4 ml/g have been prepared and characterized. The bonded phase is monomeric C18. The textural properties of the bonded silica gels are also presented and related to the properties of the unbonded silica gels.

Chromatographic evaluation with typical proteins in an underload-to-overload condition was performed in order to relate the influence of textural properties of silica gel to loading capacity and resolution. The packings with larger pore size and pore volume produced better column performance and higher loading of proteins.  相似文献

Using the self-assembly β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as structure-directing agents, high-quality ordered MCM-41 silicas have been prepared. Small-angle X-ray diffraction (SXRD), N2 adsorption-desorption and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques were used to characterize the calcined samples. Results showed that the pore structure of the resulting mesoporous silica belonged to the two-dimensional hexagonal structure (space group p6mm). The high-quality hexagonal structure was formed as n?1 (n denotes molar ratio of β-CD to CTAB). N2 adsorption-desorption curves revealed type IV isotherms, H4 hysteresis loops, for all samples, and H1 hysteresis loops for samples at n=0, 0.1, 1 and 2, respectively. The pore size and the pore wall thickness of the samples increased with the increase in n values, respectively.  相似文献

Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations are performed to study the adsorption of water in single-walled (6:6), (8:8), (10:10), (12:12), and (20:20) carbon nanotubes in the 248-548 K temperature range. At room temperature the resulting adsorption isotherms in (10:10) and wider single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNs) are characterized by negligible water uptake at low pressures, sudden and complete pore filling once a threshold pressure is reached, and wide adsorption/desorption hysteresis loops. The width of the hysteresis loops decreases as pore diameter narrows and it becomes negligible for water adsorption in (8:8) and (6:6) SWCNs. Results for the isosteric heat of adsorption, density profiles along the pore axis and across the pore radii, order parameter across the pore radii, and x-ray diffraction patterns are presented. Layered structures are observed when the internal diameter of the nanotubes is commensurate to the establishment of a hydrogen-bonded network. The structure of water in (8:8) and (10:10) SWCNs is ordered when the temperature is 298 and 248 K, respectively. By simulating adsorption isotherms at various temperatures, the hysteresis critical temperature, e.g., the lowest temperature at which no hysteresis can be detected, is determined for water adsorbed in (20:20), (12:12), and (10:10) SWCNs. The hysteresis critical temperature is lower than the vapor-liquid critical temperature for bulk Simple Point Charge-Extended (SPCE) water model.  相似文献

We report experimental and simulation studies to investigate the effect of temperature on the adsorption isotherms for water in carbons. Adsorption isotherms are measured by a gravimetric technique in carbon-fiber monoliths at 378 and 423 K and studied by molecular simulation in ideal carbon pores in the temperature range 298-600 K. Experimental adsorption isotherms show a gradual water uptake, as the pressure increases, and narrow adsorption-desorption hysteresis loops. In contrast, simulated adsorption isotherms at room temperature are characterized by negligible uptake at low pressures, sudden and complete pore filling once a threshold pressure is reached, and wide adsorption-desorption hysteresis loops. As the temperature increases, the relative pressure at which pore filling occurs increases and the size of the hysteresis loop decreases. Experimental adsorption-desorption hysteresis loops are narrower than those from simulation. Discrepancies between simulation and experimental results are attributed to heterogeneities in chemical composition, pore connectivity, and nonuniform pore-size distribution, which are not accounted for in the simulation model. The hysteresis phase diagram for confined water is obtained by recording the pressure-density conditions that bound the simulated hysteresis loop at each temperature. We find that the hysteresis critical temperature, i.e., the lowest temperature at which no hysteresis is detected, can be hundreds of degrees lower than the vapor-liquid critical temperature for bulk model water. The properties of confined water are discussed with the aid of simulation snapshots and by analyzing the structure of the confined fluid.  相似文献

Several series of fumed silicas and mixed fumed oxides produced and treated under different conditions were studied in gaseous and liquid media using nitrogen and water adsorption-desorption, mass spectrometry, FTIR, NMR, thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC), photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), zeta potential, potentiometric titration, and Auger electron spectroscopy methods. Aggregation of primary particles and adsorption capacity (Vp) decrease and hysteresis loops of nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms becomes shorter with decreasing specific surface area (S(BET)). However, the shape of nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms can be assigned to the same type independent of S(BET) value. The main maximum of pore size distribution (gaps between primary nonporous particles in aggregates and agglomerates) shifts toward larger pore size and its intensity decreases with decreasing S(BET) value. The water adsorption increases with increasing S(BET) value; however, the opposite effect is observed for the content of surface hydroxyls (in mmol/m2). Associative desorption of water (2(SiOH)-->SiOSi+H2O) depends on both the morphology and synthesis conditions of fumed silica. The silica dissolution rate increases with increasing S(BET) and pH values. However, surface charge density and the modulus of zeta-potential increase with decreasing S(BET) value. The PCS, 1H NMR, and TSDC spectra demonstrate rearrangement of the fumed silica dispersion depending on the S(BET) value and the silica concentration (C(SiO2)) in the aqueous suspensions. A specific state of the dispersion is observed at the C(SiO2) values corresponding to the bulk density of the initial silica powder.  相似文献

The adsorption of CO2 on polyethyleneimine (PEI)-functionalized hierarchically porous silica nanoparticles (PSNs), prepared by using rice husk as a silica source via a simple template-free method, was reported in this study. Compared with traditional alkaline fusion and surfactant-templating methods for preparing waste-derived porous silica materials as CO2 adsorbents, this method holds specific important advantages in being an inexpensive, and energy-saving process with faster production rate. The results revealed that the (NH4)2SiF6 salt formed during the synthetic process served as an effective porogen, which can be readily removed by washing with water. Additionally, the total pore volumes of PSNs materials were strongly correlated to the amount of (NH4)2SiF6. When evaluated as a support of PEI for CO2 adsorption, 55PEI/PSNs(12/14) could reach 159 mg/g at 75 °C under 15 % CO2, which was remarkably superior to those using waste silicate precursors reported in the previous literature. It was demonstrated that both PEI loading, and total pore volume of the PEI/silica composite sorbents, played key roles on CO2 adsorption. Besides, 55PEI/PSNs(12/14) also showed high stability during 20 cycles of adsorption–desorption operation, implying its high potential in post-combustion CO2 capture.  相似文献

In spite of the growing acceptance of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry for the analysis of a wide variety of compounds, including polymers and proteins, its use in analyzing low‐molecular‐weight molecules (<1000m/z) is still limited. This is mainly due to the interference of matrix molecules in the low‐mass range. Here the derivatized fullerenes covalently bound to silica particles with different pore sizes are applied as thin layer for laser desorption/ionization (LDI) mass spectrometric analysis. Thus, an interference of intrinsic matrix ions can be eliminated or minimized in comparison with the state‐of‐the‐art weak organic acid matrices. The desorption/ionization ability of the developed fullerene–silica materials depends on the applied laser power, sample preparation and pore size of the silica particles. Thus, fullerene–silica serves as an LDI support for mass spectrometric analysis of molecules (<1500 Da). The performance of the fullerene–silica is demonstrated by the mass analysis of variety of small molecules such as carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides, phospholipids and drugs. The general approach to mesoporous ordered silica and crystalline metal oxide thin films, involving soft chemistry, liquid deposition technique, surfactant templating and tuned annealing conditions, is presented. Highly ordered cubic mesoporous structures, made of amorphous SiO2 xerogels or nanocrystalline particles such as anatase TiO2, γ-Al2O3, ilmenite CoTiO3, or perovskite SrTiO3 have been chosen to illustrate this article. In situ time resolved SAXS analyses, involving synchrotron high flux, were used to assess the various phenomena involved during deposition, thermal treatment and crystallisation. It will be demonstrated that the self-assembly is not only critically dependant on the structuring agent to inorganic volume fraction, but also on chemical and processing parameters such as the inorganic degree of condensation and the atmosphere applied during the deposition. A general model of self-assembly, based on a Tunable Stated State, is proposed. Concerning the crystallisation step, we will show that, depending on the heating regime, ordered mesoporous nanocrystalline framework can be obtained through a rigorous control of nucleation, growth and diffusive sintering taking successively place in the mineral matrix. Finally, the porosity and pore size distribution of these silica and non silica layers were assessed using ellipsometry porosimetry. This novel and very efficient technique provides the full characteristics of the layer porosity by measuring the variation of optical constant associated to the adsorption/desorption of a gas within the porous network.  相似文献

We performed systematic adsorption studies using self-ordered nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) in an extended range of mean pore diameters and with different pore topologies. These matrices were characterized by straight cylindrical pores having a narrow pore size distribution and no interconnections. Pronounced hysteresis loops between adsorption and desorption cycles were observed even in the case of pores closed at one end. These results are in contrast with macroscopic theoretical models and detailed numerical simulations of the adsorption in a single pore. Extensive measurements involving adsorption isotherms, reversal curves, and subloops carried out in closed-bottom pores suggest that the pores do not desorb independently from one another.

Adsorbents synthesized by grafting of titania onto mesoporous silica gel surfaces at different temperatures were studied by means of nitrogen adsorption–desorption and water desorption. The pore size distribution f(Rp) of titania/silica gel depends on the titania concentration (CTiO2) and the temperature of titania synthesis. Nonuniformity of TiO2 phase is maximal at a low CTiO2 value (3.2 wt.% anatase deposited at 473 K), and two peaks of the fractal dimension distribution f(D) are observed at such a concentration of titania, but at larger CTiO2 values, only one f(D) peak is seen. More ordered filling of pores and adsorption sites by nitrogen, reflecting in the shape of adsorption energy distributions f(E) at different pressures of adsorbate, is observed for adsorbent with titania (rutile+anatase) grafted on silica gel at a higher temperature (673 K).  相似文献

The conditions of layering of adsorbate molecules in porous systems with characteristic sizes of from 1 to 50–100 nm are discussed. The porous systems contain both very narrow pores, in which interaction potentials of pore walls overlap, and comparatively broad pores without overlapping of surface potentials. Three pore size intervals are distinguished. In the first interval, no adsorbate layering occurs, the second interval is characterized by capillary condensation with critical parameters different from their volume values, and, in the third interval, capillary condensation conditions are almost the same as in the volume adsorbtive phase. Criteria of the characteristic pore sizes of different geometries are formulated; the criteria correspond to small volumes in which first-order phase transitions are absent. The boundary between the first and second pore size regions is observed experimentally as the disappearance/appearance of hysteresis loops in adsorption-desorption isotherms measured under strictly equilibrium conditions as the size of pores decreases/increases. A nonuniform distribution of the surface potential is shown to be responsible for the multiplicity of local regions in porous media with their own vapor-liquid coexisting phases. The spinodal transitions in adsorption-desorption in pores can occur between various local regions. An analysis is performed in terms of the lattice gas model with short-range Lennard-Jones interaction of adsorbate molecules with each other and adsorbent walls.  相似文献
