We consider the coupling of dual‐mixed finite elements and boundary elements to solve a mixed Dirichlet–Neumann problem of plane elasticity. We derive an a‐posteriori error estimate that is based on the solution of local Dirichlet problems and on a residual term defined on the coupling interface. The general error estimate does not make use of any special finite element or boundary element spaces. Here the residual term is given in a negative order Sobolev norm. In practical applications, where a certain boundary element subspace is used, this norm can be estimated by weighted local L2‐norms. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present two new mixed finite element methods coupled with a boundary method for the three dimensional magnetostatic problem. Such formulations are obtained by coupling a finite element method inside a bounded domain with a boundary integral method involving either the Calderon equations or the inverse of Dirichlet Neumann operator to treat the exterior domain. First, we present the formulations and then prove that our mixed formulations are well posed and that they lead to a convergent Galerkin method. Finally, we give numerical results for a sphere immersed in a homogeneous (source) field in the two formulations. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Recently Babus?ka‐Oh introduced the method of auxiliary mapping (MAM) which efficiently handles elliptic boundary value problems containing singularities. In this paper, a special weighted residue method, the Weighted Ritz‐Galerkin Method (WRGM), is investigated by introducing special weight functions. Together with this method, MAM is modified to yield highly accurate finite element solutions to general elliptic boundary value problems on the exterior of bounded domains at low cost. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider a posteriori error estimation for a multipoint flux mixed finite element method for two‐dimensional elliptic interface problems. Within the class of modified quasi‐monotonically distributed coefficients, we derive a residual‐type a posteriori error estimator of the weighted sum of the scalar and flux errors which is robust with respect to the jumps of the coefficients. Moreover, we develop robust implicit and explicit recovery‐type estimators through gradient recovery in an H(curl)‐conforming finite element space. In particular, we apply a modified L2 projection in the implicit recovery procedure so as to reduce the computational cost of the recovered gradient. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

This paper describes existence, uniqueness and special eigenfunction representations of H1‐solutions of second order, self‐adjoint, elliptic equations with both interior and boundary source terms. The equations are posed on bounded regions with Dirichlet conditions on part of the boundary and Neumann conditions on the complement. The system is decomposed into separate problems defined on orthogonal subspaces of H1(Ω). One problem involves the equation with the interior source term and the Neumann data. The other problem just involves the homogeneous equation with Dirichlet data. Spectral representations of the solution operators for each of these problems are found. The solutions are described using bases that are, respectively, eigenfunctions of the differential operator with mixed null boundary conditions, and certain mixed Steklov eigenfunctions. These series converge strongly in H1(Ω). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the Dirichlet part of the boundary data to have a finite energy extension are described. The solutions for a problem that models a cylindrical capacitor is found explicitly. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper presents a superconvergence analysis for the Shortley–Weller finite difference approximation of second-order self-adjoint elliptic equations with unbounded derivatives on a polygonal domain with the mixed type of boundary conditions. In this analysis, we first formulate the method as a special finite element/volume method. We then analyze the convergence of the method in a finite element framework. An O(h 1.5)-order superconvergence of the solution derivatives in a discrete H 1 norm is obtained. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to support the theoretical convergence rate obtained.  相似文献

We consider the linearized scalar potential formulation of the magnetostatic field problem in this paper. Our approach involves a reformulation of the continuous problem as a parametric boundary problem. By the introduction of a spherical interface and the use of spherical harmonics, the infinite boundary conditions can also be satisfied in the parametric framework. That is the field in the exterior of a sphere is expanded in a ‘harmonic series’ of eigenfunctions for the exterior harmonic problem. The approach is essentially a finite element method coupled with a spectral method via a boundary parametric procedure. The reformulated problem is discretized by finite element techniques which leads to a discrete parametric problem which can be solved by well conditioned iteration involving only the solution of decoupled Neumann type elliptic finite element systems and L2 projection onto subspaces of spherical harmonics. Error and stability estimates given show exponential convergence in the degree of the spherical harmonics and optimal order convergence with respect to the finite element approximation for the resulting fields in L2.  相似文献

In this paper, we combine the usual finite element method with a Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann (DtN) mapping, derived in terms of an infinite Fourier series, to study the solvability and Galerkin approximations of an exterior transmission problem arising in non‐linear incompressible 2d‐elasticity. We show that the variational formulation can be written in a Stokes‐type mixed form with a linear constraint and a non‐linear main operator. Then, we provide the uniqueness of solution for the continuous and discrete formulations, and derive a Cea‐type estimate for the associated error. In particular, our error analysis considers the practical case in which the DtN mapping is approximated by the corresponding finite Fourier series. Finally, a reliable a posteriori error estimate, well suited for adaptive computations, is also given. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a new stabilized mixed finite element method for second order elliptic equations in divergence form with Neumann boundary conditions. The approach introduces first the trace of the solution on the boundary as a Lagrange multiplier, which yields a corresponding residual term that is expressed in the Sobolev norm of order 1/2 by means of wavelet bases. The stabilization procedure is then completed with the residuals arising from the constitutive and equilibrium equations. We show that the resulting mixed variational formulation and the associated Galerkin scheme are well posed. In addition, we provide a residual-based reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimate.  相似文献

We consider the mixed finite element method with Lagrange multipliers as applied to second‐order elliptic equations in divergence form with mixed boundary conditions. The corresponding Galerkin scheme is defined by using Raviart‐Thomas spaces. We develop a posteriori error analyses yielding a reliable and efficient estimate based on residuals, and a reliable and quasi‐efficient estimate based on local problems, respectively. Several numerical results illustrate the suitability of these a posteriori estimates for the adaptive computation of the discrete solutions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. We also obtain uniform W1,p estimates.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We introduce a purely functional analytic framework for elliptic boundary value problems in a variational form. We define abstract Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions and a corresponding Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann operator, and develop a theory relating resolvents and spectra of these operators. We illustrate the theory by many examples including Jacobi operators, Laplacians on spaces with (non‐smooth) boundary, the Zaremba (mixed boundary conditions) problem and discrete Laplacians.  相似文献

For a family of second‐order elliptic operators with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients, we study the asymptotic behavior of the Green and Neumann functions, using Dirichlet and Neumann correctors. As a result we obtain asymptotic expansions of Poisson kernels and the Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann maps as well as optimal convergence rates in Lp and W1,p for solutions with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We prove exponential rates of convergence of hp-version finite element methods on geometric meshes consisting of hexahedral elements for linear, second-order elliptic boundary value problems in axiparallel polyhedral domains. We extend and generalize our earlier work for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and uniform isotropic polynomial degrees to mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary conditions and to anisotropic, which increase linearly over mesh layers away from edges and vertices. In particular, we construct \(H^1\)-conforming quasi-interpolation operators with N degrees of freedom and prove exponential consistency bounds \(\exp (-b\root 5 \of {N})\) for piecewise analytic functions with singularities at edges, vertices and interfaces of boundary conditions, based on countably normed classes of weighted Sobolev spaces with non-homogeneous weights in the vicinity of Neumann edges.  相似文献

We consider a symmetric Galerkin method for the coupling of finite elements and boundary elements for elliptic problems with a monotone operator in the finite element domain. We derive an a posteriori error estimator which involves the solution of equilibrated local Neumann problems in the finite element domain and requires computation of a residual term on the coupling interface. Finally, we discuss a similar approach for a coupling with Signorini contact conditions on the interface. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An interpolated coefficient finite element method is presented and analyzed for the two‐dimensional elliptic sine‐Gordon equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is proved that the discretization scheme admits at least one solution, and that a subsequence of the approximation solutions converges to an exact solution in L2‐norm as the mesh size tends to zero. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper a two‐dimensional solute transport model is considered to simulate the leaching of copper ore tailing using sulfuric acid as the leaching agent. The mathematical model consists in a system of differential equations: two diffusion–convection‐reaction equations with Neumann boundary conditions, and one ordinary differential equation. The numerical scheme consists in a combination of finite volume and finite element methods. A Godunov scheme is used for the convection term and an P1‐FEM for the diffusion term. The convergence analysis is based on standard compactness results in L2. Some numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the scheme. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the existence of positive solutions for singular elliptic equations with mixed Dirichlet‐Neumann boundary conditions involving Sobolev‐Hardy critical exponents and Hardy terms by using the concentration compactness principle, the strong maximum principle and the Mountain Pass lemma. We also prove, under complementary conditions, that there is no nontrivial solution if the domain is star‐shaped with respect to the origin.  相似文献

In this article we present a fourth‐order finite difference scheme, for a system of two‐dimensional, second‐order, nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations with mixed spatial derivative terms, using 13‐point stencils with a uniform mesh size h on a square region R subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. The scheme of order h4 is derived using the local solution of the system on a single stencil. The resulting system of algebraic equations can be solved by iterative methods. The difference scheme can be easily modified to obtain formulae for grid points near the boundary. Computational results are given to demonstrate the performance of the scheme on some problems including Navier‐Stokes equations. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this article a standard mortar finite element method and a mortar element method with Lagrange multiplier are used for spatial discretization of a class of parabolic initial‐boundary value problems. Optimal error estimates in L(L2) and L(H1)‐norms for semidiscrete methods for both the cases are established. The key feature that we have adopted here is to introduce a modified elliptic projection. In the standard mortar element method, a completely discrete scheme using backward Euler scheme is discussed and optimal error estimates are derived. The results of numerical experiments support the theoretical results obtained in this article. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2008  相似文献
