The synthesis and structural characterization of a series of novel, fluorinated poly(phthalazinone ether)s containing perfluorophenylene moieties are described. The monomers, 4‐(4′‐hydroxyaryl)phthalazin‐1(2H)‐ones ( 2a – 2d ), were conveniently and efficiently synthesized from phenols and phthalic anhydride in two steps via 2‐(4′‐hydroxybenzoyl)benzoic acids, which were first obtained by the Friedel–Crafts reaction in good yields and with high stereoselectivity and were then converted into 2a – 2d by fusion with hydrazine. All the polymers were prepared by nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) polycondensation between the compounds perfluorobiphenyl and 4‐(4′‐hydroxyaryl)phthalazin‐1(2H)‐ones ( 2a ‐ 2d ). The resulting fluorinated polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents (e.g., CHCl3, tetrahydrofuran, dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, N‐methylpyrrolidone, etc.) at room temperature. Their weight‐average molecular weights and the polydispersities ranged from (7.96–18.25) × 103 to 1.31–2.71, respectively. Their glass‐transition temperatures varied from 213 to 263 °C. They were all stable up to 390 °C both in air and in argon. The 5% weight‐loss temperatures of these polymers in air and argon ranged from 393–487 to 437–509 °C, respectively. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction studies indicated they were all amorphous and could be attributed to the presence of kink nonplanar moiety, phenyl phthalazinone along the polymer backbone. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel poly(arylene ether ketone)s were synthesized from the reaction of hydroquinone and 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-phthalazin-1-one with 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone in N-cyclohexylpyrrolidinone containing anhydrous potassium carbonate. The polymers exhibited high glass transition temperatures together with excellent thermooxidative stability. The chain structure of these polymers was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide-angle X-ray diffraction techniques (WAXD), and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The experimental results indicated that these “as-made” copoly(aryleneketone)s containing hydroquinone moieties exhibited a block chain structure with segments which mainly consisted of hydroquinone and 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone. These chain segments resulted in crystallites in the polymers although they are thermodynamically unstable. The polymers showed thermal properties comparable to commercial PEEK, but the conditions for synthesis are much milder. The glass transition temperatures and solubilities of the copoly(arylene ketone)s tended to increase with increasing phthalazinone moiety content, while the crystallite melting points and crystallinity appeared to decrease. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel poly(arylene ether)s with sulfonic acid containing pendent groups were successfully synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with bisphenols in an aprotic solvent in the presence of excess potassium carbonate followed by sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid. The sulfonation took place only at the controlled positions on the phenyl rings due to the novel bisphenol structures designed. The sulfonic acid group containing polymers were very soluble in common organic solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N′‐dimethylacetamide, and dimethylformamide, but swelled only slightly in water. These sulfonic acid group containing polymers were readily cast into tough and smooth films from organic solvents. The synthesized polymers had high glass‐transition temperatures of 171.0–240.7 °C and high molecular weights of 15,600–33,000 Da. A series of new poly(arylene ether)s, containing naphthalene, pyridine, and quinoline units have been prepared by solution condensation polymerization. The synthesis involves nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with aromatic potassium bisphenates in an anhydrous dipolar aprotic solvent at elevated temperatures. The polymers, having inherent viscosity from 0.24 to 1.32 dL/g, were obtained in quantitative yield, have excellent thermal stability as shown by 10% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen and air (above 450 and 430°C, respectively) and high glass transition temperatures (in the range of 150–220°C). The introduction of quinoline moieties in the polymer backbone positively influences the thermal properties, such as high Tg/Tm ratios. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

A series of novel poly(ether ketone ketone)s (PEKKs) were synthesized from diphenyl ether and isophthaloyl chloride derivatives such as 5‐halo‐ and 5‐tert‐butyl‐isophthaloyl chloride. The aromatic electrophilic substitution route to polyketones was a convenient route for the preparation of the polymers in high yields via precipitation polycondensation at a low temperature with aluminum trichloride as a catalyst. High molecular weight PEKKs were achieved with number‐average molecular weights of 15,000–100,000 g/mol for polymers that showed good solubility in organic solvents. The presence of substituents greatly modified the spectroscopic features in comparison with those of unsubstituted isophthaloyl poly(ether ketone ketone)s, particularly for the series containing halogens, for which significant variations of the chemical shifts in both 1H and 13C NMR spectra were observed; these shifts could be related to the nature of the halogen. Thermal properties were also affected by the presence of pendent substituents, with clear enhancements of the glass‐transition temperatures, which could be ascribed to the nature and bulkiness of the substituents. Thermogravimetric analyses showed that the new polymers had good thermal resistance, although an important drop in thermal resistance was observed for polymers bearing large halogen atoms, such as bromine and iodine. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel series of poly(aryl ether sulfone ketone)s (PPESKs) containing phthalazinone and biphenyl moieties were prepared by two-step nucleophilic polycondensation reaction. The ^-Mw values of these copolymers were between 38,330 and 67,900. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) and 5% decomposition temperatures were ranged in 253-269 ℃ and 488-500 ℃, respectively, The structures of these copolymers were confirmed by FT-IR and ^1H NMR. Moreover, all the resultant copolymers were amorphous determined by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). 相似文献

Novel sulfur‐containing biphenol monomers were prepared in high yields by the reaction of 4‐mercaptophenol with chloropyridazine or chlorophthalazine compounds. High‐molecular‐weight poly(arylene ether)s were synthesized by a nucleophilic substitution reaction between these sulfur‐containing monomers and activated difluoro aromatic compounds. The inherent viscosities of these polymers ranged from 0.34 to 0.93 dL/g. The poly(pyridazine)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures greater than 165 °C. The poly(phthalazine)s showed higher glass‐transition temperatures than the poly(pyridazine)s. A polymer synthesized from a bisphthalazinebiphenol and bis(4‐fluorophenyl)sulfone had the highest glass‐transition temperature (240 °C). The thermal stabilities of the poly(pyridazine)s and poly(phthalazine)s showed similar patterns of decomposition, with no significant weight loss below 390 °C. The poly(phthalazine)s were soluble in chlorinated solvents such as chloroform, and the poly(pyridazine)s were soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents such as N,N′‐dimethylacetamide. A series of poly(arylene ether)s containing triphenylmethane moiety were synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with bisphenols in an aprotic solvent in the presence of excess potassium carbonate. High molecular weight and fibrous polymers in white color can be readily afforded in short reaction time. The structures of the synthesized monomers and polymers were investigated by 1H NMR and MS techniques. The sulfonation position of the synthesized polymer can be easily controlled and the water-up-take can be conveniently tailored by changing the amount of sulfonation agent. This sulfonated polymer 4b is soluble in polar organic solvents, such as NMP, DMAc, DMSO, DMF, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and can be readily cast into tough and smooth films from solutions. The sulfonated polymers can be potentially used as the proton-exchange membranes for fuel-cells. 相似文献

Poly(arylene ether)s containing N-arylenebenzimidazole groups were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic displacement reaction of two new bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s with activated aromatic difluorides in sulfolane at 200°C in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate. The bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s were prepared from bis(o-aminoanilino) arylenes and phenyl-4-hydroxybenzoate. The polymers were soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and m-cresol and exhibited inherent viscosities from 0.37–0.86 dL/g and glass transition temperatures from 219–289°C. Thermogravimetric analyses showed 5% weight losses from 463–506°C in air and 467–522°C in nitrogen. Unoriented thin films exhibited tensile strengths, moduli, and break elongations at 23°C of 10.2–12.5 ksi, 318–365 ksi, and 4–7%, respectively, and at 177°C of 5.1–6.9 ksi, 256–296 ksi, and 1–5%, respectively. A 50 : 50 random copolymer prepared from 1,3-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl) benzene, 1,1'-(4,4'-biphenylene)-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole], and 5,5'-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole] exhibited higher moisture absorption and lower tensile properties than those predicted by a rule of mixtures relationship. Bis(4-oxybenzoic acid) tetrakis(phenoxy) cyclotriphosphazene (IUPAC name: 4-[4-(carboxyphenoxy)-2,4,6,6-tetraphenoxy-1,3,5,2λ5,4λ5,6λ5-triazatriphosphinin-2-yl]oxy-benzoic acid) was synthesized and direct polycondensed with diphenylether or 1,4-diphenoxybenzene in Eaton's reagent at the temperature range of 80–120°C for 3 hours to give aromatic poly(ether ketone)s. Polycondensations at 120°C gave polymer of high molecular weight. Incorporation of cyclotriphosphazene groups in the aromatic poly(ether ketone) backbone greatly enhanced the solubility of these polymers in common organic polar solvents. Thermal stabilities by TGA for two polymer samples of polymer series ranged from 390 to 354°C in nitrogen at 10% weight loss and glass transition temperatures (Tg) ranged from 81.4 to 89.6°C by DSC. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers derived from 9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene, bisphenol S and 4,4′-difluorodiphenylsulfone and poly(arylene ether ketone) copolymers derived from 4-phenoxybiphenyl, diphenyl ether and isophthaloyl chloride were prepared as precursor polymers for sulfonation reaction in which sulfonic groups are introduced quantitatively into specified positions. Sulfonation reaction for these two series of copolymers by concentrated sulfuric acid was successfully carried out to give sulfonated polymers with controlled positions and degree of sulfonation. Thermal stability, moisture absorption and proton conductivity for these two series of copolymers were measured and the results were compared to those of perfluorosulfonic acid polymers. 相似文献

Long‐chain branched poly(ether sulfone)s (PESs) were synthesized via self‐polycondensation of AB2 macromonomers. The linear PES oligomers synthesized by self‐polycondensation of 4‐chloro‐4′‐(4‐hydroxyphenyloxy)diphenyl sulfone were terminated with 4‐(3,5‐methoxyphenoxy)‐4′‐fluorodiphenyl sulfone to form AB2 macromonomer precursors. After conversion from methoxy to hydroxy groups, the AB2 macromonomers were self‐polycondensed to form long‐chain branched PESs. NMR measurements support the formation of the target macromonomers ( = 2930–67,800 (g mol?1); Mn = number average molecular weight) and long‐chain branched PESs. Gel permeation chromatography with multiangle light scattering measurements indicated the formation of high‐molecular‐weight (Mw) polymers over 104. The root‐mean‐square radius of gyration (Rg) suggests that the shape of the long‐chain branched PES synthesized from small AB2 macromonomers in solution is similar to that of hyperbranched polymers. Increasing resulted in larger Rg, suggesting a transition from hyperbranched to a linear‐like architecture in the resulting long‐chain branched PESs. Rheological measurements suggested the presence of strongly entangled chains in the long‐chain branched PES. Higher tensile modulus and smaller elongation at the break were observed in the tensile tests of the long‐chain branched PESs. Poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEKs) are the most commonly known high‐performance materials used for ion exchange and fuel cell membranes. Described here is the design of novel sulfonated PAEKs (SPAEKs) and nonsulfonated PAEKs containing crown ether units in the main chain, which can be used in sensing applications and ion‐selective membranes. To this end, 4,4′(5′)‐di(hydroxybenzo)‐18‐crown‐6 was synthesized and used as monomer in a step growth polymerization to form crown ether‐containing PAEKs and SPAEKs. The successful synthesis of PAEKs containing 18‐crown‐6 and sulfonate groups was confirmed by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Membranes are fabricated from the sulfonated polymers. Potassium ion transport properties of the SPAEK and crown ether‐containing SPAEK membranes are assessed by diffusion dialysis. Potassium ion diffusion in the crown ether‐containing SPAEK membranes is almost four times lower than K+ diffusion in the native polymer membranes, without crown ether. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. trans‐1,4‐Cyclohexylene ring containing acid chloride monomers were incorporated into poly(arylene ether sulfone) (PAES) backbones to study their effect on mechanical and thermal properties. The trans‐1,4‐cyclohexylene ring containing acid chloride monomers were synthesized and characterized by NMR and high‐resolution mass spectrum. trans‐1,4‐Cyclohexylene containing PAESs were synthesized from the acid chloride monomers and hydroxyl terminated polysulfone oligomers with a pseudo‐interfacial method and a solution method. These PAESs, with trans‐1,4‐cyclohexylene ring containing ester linkages, were fully characterized by NMR, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), size exclusion chromatography, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The tensile properties were also evaluated. The polymers made with the pseudo‐interfacial method had relatively low molecular weights when compared to the solution method where much higher molecular weight polymers were obtained. Crystallinity was promoted in the low molecular weight biphenol‐based PAES samples with the pseudo‐interfacial method. The crystallinity was confirmed by both the DSC and the wide angle X‐ray diffraction results. The tensile test results of the high molecular weight polymers suggested that incorporation of the trans‐1,4‐cyclohexylene ring containing linkage slightly improved the ultimate elongations while maintaining the Young's moduli. The trans‐1,4‐cyclohexylene ring containing PAESs also showed higher sub‐Tg relaxations in DMA when compared with their terephthaloyl containing analog. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new aromatic sulfone ether diamine was synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of 5‐amino‐1‐naphthol with bis(4‐chlorophenyl) sulfone in the presence of potassium carbonate in a polar aprotic solvent. Polycondensation reactions of the obtained diamine with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), and hexafluoroisopropylidene diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) resulted in preparation of thermally stable poly(sulfone ether imide)s. Poly(sulfone ether amide)s also were prepared by reaction of the diamine with terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) and isophthaloyl chloride (IPC). The prepared monomer and polymers were characterized by conventional methods. A series of copoly(ether ketone)s containing double bonds along the polymer chains were synthesized from the condensation polymerization of hydroquinone with 4,4′‐difluorobenzophenone and 4,5‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐1‐methylcyclohexene in sulfolane containing anhydrous potassium carbonate. The presence of methylcyclohexene in the polymer chains resulted in an improvement in the solubility of poly(ether ketone)s in organic solvents such as chloroform, chlorobenzene, and sulfolane. As a result, the conditions for synthesizing these polymers were much milder than those for poly(ether ether ketone). The new copoly(ether ketone)s also showed good tensile properties and reasonable thermal stability. New polyethers containing pyrazine unites were obtained from the cyclization reaction of these copoly(ether ketone)s with hydrazine. The hydrazine cycloderivatives led to an increase in the glass‐transition temperatures and a decrease in solubility in organic solvents. © 2002 Government of Canada. A series of new poly(ether imide)s containing the naphthalimide moiety were prepared from bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)naphthalimides and several bisphenols by aromatic nucleophilic displacement polymerization. These polyimides had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.31–1.04 dL/g in chloroform and glass transition temperatures of 283.0–341.6°C by differential scanning calorimetry. The onset temperature for 5% weight loss for all the polymers was over 448°C, as assessed by thermogravimetry at a heating rate 10°C/min in nitrogen. In addition, these novel polyimides exhibited good solubility in organic solvents including N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane and chloroform. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Amorphous polyarylene ether ketones were examined in the glassy state by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and in the melt by standard rheological techniques. Specimens were well-characterized fractions of two isomeric structures. PALS clearly shows that the polymer with meta linkages in its backbone contains larger voids (> 0.25 nm radius). Thus despite their similar bulk densities, the two materials must pack very differently on a local scale. On the other hand, the free volumes inferred from the WLF treatment of melt viscosity data are practically identical in both materials ca. 4% at Tg. We report synthesis of a series of new triarylamine‐containing AB‐type monomers and their polymers via nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction. Monomers consisting of a hydroxyl group at the para position of the nitrogen group in one phenyl ring and a fluorine leaving group at the para position in another phenyl ring were synthesized via palladium‐catalyzed amination reaction. The fluorine leaving group was activated by trifluoromethyl group at the ortho position and an electron‐withdrawing group (EWG) introduced at the para position of the unsubstituted phenyl ring that enabled control over monomer reactivity. SNAr reaction of the monomers successfully produced corresponding poly(arylene ether)s with pendant EWGs that exhibited good solubility and thermal stability.
