In this article, we extend the fourth‐order compact boundary scheme in Liao et al. (Numer Methods Partial Differential Equations 18 (2002), 340–354) to a 3D problem and then combine it with the fourth‐order compact alternating direction implicit (ADI) method in Gu et al. (J Comput Appl Math 155 (2003), 1–17) to solve the 3D reaction‐diffusion equation with Neumann boundary condition. First, the reaction‐diffusion equation is solved with a compact fourth‐order finite difference method based on the Padé approximation, which is then combined with the ADI method and a fourth‐order compact scheme to approximate the Neumann boundary condition, to obtain fourth order accuracy in space. The accuracy in the temporal dimension is improved to fourth order by applying the Richardson extrapolation technique, although the unconditional stability of the numerical method is proved, and several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed new algorithm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We propose a new high‐order finite difference discretization strategy, which is based on the Richardson extrapolation technique and an operator interpolation scheme, to solve convection diffusion equations. For a particular implementation, we solve a fine grid equation and a coarse grid equation by using a fourth‐order compact difference scheme. Then we combine the two approximate solutions and use the Richardson extrapolation to compute a sixth‐order accuracy coarse grid solution. A sixth‐order accuracy fine grid solution is obtained by interpolating the sixth‐order coarse grid solution using an operator interpolation scheme. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and efficacy of the proposed finite difference discretization strategy, compared to the sixth‐order combined compact difference (CCD) scheme, and the standard fourth‐order compact difference (FOC) scheme. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider a mathematical model for thermal analysis in a 3D N‐carrier system with Neumann boundary conditions, which extends the concept of the well‐known parabolic two‐step model for micro heat transfer. To solve numerically the complex system, we first reduce 3D equations in the model to a succession of 1D equations by using the local one‐dimensional (LOD) method. The obtained 1D equations are then solved using a fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme for the interior points and a second‐order combined compact finite difference scheme for the points next to the boundary, so that the Neumann boundary condition can be applied directly without discretizing. By using matrix analysis, the compact LOD scheme is shown to be unconditionally stable. The accuracy of the solution is tested using two numerical examples. Results show that the solutions obtained by the compact LOD finite difference scheme are more accurate than those obtained by a Crank‐Nicholson LOD scheme, and the convergence rate with respect to spatial variables is about 2.6. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we introduce a high‐order accurate method for solving one‐space dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. We apply a compact finite difference approximation of fourth order for discretizing spatial derivative of linear hyperbolic equation and collocation method for the time component. The main property of this method additional to its high‐order accuracy due to the fourth order discretization of spatial derivative, is its unconditionally stability. In this technique the solution is approximated by a polynomial at each grid point that its coefficients are determined by solving a linear system of equations. Numerical results show that the compact finite difference approximation of fourth order and collocation method produce a very efficient method for solving the one‐space‐dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. In this article, a new compact alternating direction implicit finite difference scheme is derived for solving a class of 3‐D nonlinear evolution equations. By the discrete energy method, it is shown that the new difference scheme has good stability and can attain second‐order accuracy in time and fourth‐order accuracy in space with respect to the discrete H1 ‐norm. A Richardson extrapolation algorithm is applied to achieve fourth‐order accuracy in temporal dimension. Numerical experiments illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the extrapolation algorithm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a high‐order accurate method for solving the two dimensional linear hyperbolic equation. We apply a compact finite difference approximation of fourth order for discretizing spatial derivatives of linear hyperbolic equation and collocation method for the time component. The value of a contingent claim under a jump‐diffusion process satisfies a partial integro‐differential equation. A fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme is applied to discretize the spatial variable of this equation. It is discretized in time by an implicit‐explicit method. Meanwhile, a local mesh refinement strategy is used for handling the nonsmooth payoff condition. Moreover, the numerical quadrature method is exploited to evaluate the jump integral term. It guarantees a Toeplitz‐like structure of the integral operator such that a fast algorithm is feasible. Numerical results show that this approach gives fourth‐order accuracy in space. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2011  相似文献

In this article, we discuss a scheme for dealing with Neumann and mixed boundary conditions using a compact stencil. The resulting compact algorithm for solving systems of nonlinear reaction‐diffusion equations is fourth‐order accurate in both the temporal and spatial dimensions. We also prove that the standard second‐order approximation to zero Neumann boundary conditions provides fourth‐order accuracy when the nonlinear reaction term is independent of the spatial variables. Numerical examples, including an application of this algorithm to a mathematical model describing frontal polymerization process, are presented in the article to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the scheme. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, an efficient fourth‐order accurate numerical method based on Padé approximation in space and singly diagonally implicit Runge‐Kutta method in time is proposed to solve the time‐dependent one‐dimensional reaction‐diffusion equation. In this scheme, we first approximate the spatial derivative using the second‐order central finite difference then improve it to fourth‐order by applying Padé approximation. A three stage fourth‐order singly diagonally implicit Runge‐Kutta method is then used to solve the resulting system of ordinary differential equations. It is also shown that the scheme is unconditionally stable, and is suitable for stiff problems. Several numerical examples are solved by the scheme and the efficiency and accuracy of the new scheme are compared with two widely used high‐order compact finite difference methods. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, an implicit‐explicit two‐step backward differentiation formula (IMEX‐BDF2) together with finite difference compact scheme is developed for the numerical pricing of European and American options whose asset price dynamics follow the regime‐switching jump‐diffusion process. It is shown that IMEX‐BDF2 method for solving this system of coupled partial integro‐differential equations is stable with the second‐order accuracy in time. On the basis of IMEX‐BDF2 time semi‐discrete method, we derive a fourth‐order compact (FOC) finite difference scheme for spatial discretization. Since the payoff function of the option at the strike price is not differentiable, the results show only second‐order accuracy in space. To remedy this, a local mesh refinement strategy is used near the strike price so that the accuracy achieves fourth order. Numerical results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for European and American options under regime‐switching jump‐diffusion models.  相似文献

We present an explicit sixth‐order compact finite difference scheme for fast high‐accuracy numerical solutions of the two‐dimensional convection diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The sixth‐order scheme is based on the well‐known fourth‐order compact (FOC) scheme, the Richardson extrapolation technique, and an operator interpolation scheme. For a particular implementation, we use multiscale multigrid method to compute the fourth‐order solutions on both the coarse grid and the fine grid. Then, an operator interpolation scheme combined with the Richardson extrapolation technique is used to compute a sixth‐order accurate fine grid solution. We compare the computed accuracy and the implementation cost of the new scheme with the standard nine‐point FOC scheme and Sun–Zhang's sixth‐order method. Two convection diffusion problems are solved numerically to validate our proposed sixth‐order scheme. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

We propose a 9‐point fourth‐order finite difference scheme for 2D elliptic problems with a mixed derivative and variable coefficients. The same approach is extended to derive a class of two‐level high‐order compact schemes with weighted time discretization for solving 2D parabolic problems with a mixed derivative. The schemes are fourth‐order accurate in space and second‐ or lower‐order accurate in time depending on the choice of a weighted average parameter μ. Unconditional stability is proved for 0.5 ≤ μ ≤ 1, and numerical experiments supporting our theoretical analysis and confirming the high‐order accuracy of the schemes are presented. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a fast singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta method is designed to solve unsteady one‐dimensional convection diffusion equations. We use a three point compact finite difference approximation for the spatial discretization and also a three‐stage singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta (RK) method for the temporal discretization. In particular, a formulation evaluating the boundary values assigned to the internal stages for the RK method is derived so that a phenomenon of the order of the reduction for the convergence does not occur. The proposed scheme not only has fourth‐order accuracy in both space and time variables but also is computationally efficient, requiring only a linear matrix solver for a tridiagonal matrix system. It is also shown that the proposed scheme is unconditionally stable and suitable for stiff problems. Several numerical examples are solved by the new scheme and the numerical efficiency and superiority of it are compared with the numerical results obtained by other methods in the literature. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We derive a high‐order compact alternating direction implicit (ADI) method for solving three‐dimentional unsteady convection‐diffusion problems. The method is fourth‐order in space and second‐order in time. It permits multiple uses of the one‐dimensional tridiagonal algorithm with a considerable saving in computing time and results in a very efficient solver. It is shown through a discrete Fourier analysis that the method is unconditionally stable in the diffusion case. Numerical experiments are conducted to test its high order and to compare it with the standard second‐order Douglas‐Gunn ADI method and the spatial fourth‐order compact scheme by Karaa. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a compact finite difference method is developed for the periodic initial value problem of the N‐coupled nonlinear Klein–Gordon equations. The present scheme is proved to preserve the total energy in the discrete sense. Due to the difficulty in obtaining the priori estimate from the discrete energy conservation law, the cut‐off function technique is employed to prove the convergence, which shows the new scheme possesses second order accuracy in time and fourth order accuracy in space, respectively. Additionally, several numerical results are reported to confirm our theoretical analysis. Lastly, we apply the reliable method to simulate and study the collisions of solitary waves numerically.  相似文献

Finite difference scheme to the generalized one‐dimensional sine‐Gordon equation is considered in this paper. After approximating the second order derivative in the space variable by the compact finite difference, we transform the sine‐Gordon equation into an initial‐value problem of a second‐order ordinary differential equation. Then Padé approximant is used to approximate the time derivatives. The resulting fully discrete nonlinear finite‐difference equation is solved by a predictor‐corrector scheme. Both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are considered in our proposed algorithm. Stability analysis and error estimate are given for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problems using energy method. Numerical results are given to verify the condition for stability and convergence and to examine the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An efficient higher‐order finite difference algorithm is presented in this article for solving systems of two‐dimensional reaction‐diffusion equations with nonlinear reaction terms. The method is fourth‐order accurate in both the temporal and spatial dimensions. It requires only a regular five‐point difference stencil similar to that used in the standard second‐order algorithm, such as the Crank‐Nicolson algorithm. The Padé approximation and Richardson extrapolation are used to achieve high‐order accuracy in the spatial and temporal dimensions, respectively. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the new algorithm. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The numerical solution for the one‐dimensional complex fractional Ginzburg–Landau equation is considered and a linearized high‐order accurate difference scheme is derived. The fractional centered difference formula, combining the compact technique, is applied to discretize fractional Laplacian, while Crank–Nicolson/leap‐frog scheme is used to deal with the temporal discretization. A rigorous analysis of the difference scheme is carried out by the discrete energy method. It is proved that the difference scheme is uniquely solvable and unconditionally convergent, in discrete maximum norm, with the convergence order of two in time and four in space, respectively. Numerical simulations are given to show the efficiency and accuracy of the scheme. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 33: 105–124, 2017  相似文献
