The antiproton-nucleus annihilation in two possible experimental situations (low energy in-flight annihilation and annihilation in a trap) is investigated taking into account the Coulomb interaction. For these two cases, the formulas giving the relation between the antiproton-nucleus scattering lengtha cs and observables (annihilation cross section and antiprotons time-of-life in a trap) are obtained. Annihilation of antiprotons and protons at rest into neutral particles has been studied with the Crystal Barrel detector at LEAR. Annihilation frequencies are determined for final states containing π0, η, η′ and ω mesons using a liquid and a room temperature, 12 bar, gaseous hydrogen target. Including annihilation frequencies for production of neutral kaons from other experiments, the identified reactions for annihilation in liquid hydrogen add up to a branching fraction of (3.56±0.28)% per annihilation compared to the frequency of (3.50±0.30)% with which we observe the all-neutral decay modes inclusively. Since the exclusive final states are normalized to the Crystal Barrel measurement of the π0π0 branching ratio, the latter result is strongly supported by this present study.  相似文献

A plasma immersion ion implantation(PIII) system based on inductively coupled plasma(ICP) technology was designed. The PIII system had a cylindrical chamber, and a radio frequency(RF) power was used to sustain discharge and a pulsed voltage source was provided to bias the wafer. The RF power was coupled into chamber by a non-coplanar two-turn circular structure coil. A Langmuir probe was connected to the PIII system to diagnose the plasma parameters. The probe diagnosis indicated that plasma ion density of the system achieves 1017m-3, the uniformity of the ion density along radial direction achieves 3.53%. Boron (B) and phosphorus (P) doping experiments were performed on the system. Results from second ion mass spectrum (SIMS) tests showed that the measured injection depth is about 10nm and the shallowest is 8.6 nm (at 1018cm-3), the peak ion concentration is below the surface of the wafer, and the ion dose reaches above1015cm-2 and the abrupt 2.5 nm/decade.  相似文献

Artificial diamond is an ideal material for high power, high voltage electronic devices, and for engineering use in extreme environments. Diamond process development requires parallel development in characterization techniques such as ultra low energy SIMS (uleSIMS), especially in the ability to depth profile for impurities and dopants at high depth resolution.As a contribution to the background knowledge required, we have measured the sputter yields of single crystal high pressure high temperature (HPHT) diamond using O2+, Cs+ and Ar+ primary ions in the energy range 300 eV to 2 keV. We compare these with yields for silicon and GaAs. We show that the erosion rates with oxygen are ∼10 times what would be expected from ballistic processes and essentially energy independent in the measured range. This result agrees with the anomalously high sputter yield observed in the ion etching context. Conversely, positive ion yields for elements such as boron are very low in comparison with silicon. This points to a reactive ion etching process liberating CO or CO2 rather than sputtering as the principal erosion process.This is both problematic and beneficial for SIMS analysis. Oxygen can be used to reach buried structures in diamond efficiently, and the effects of the near-normal incidence beam are planarizing as they are in silicon. Conversely, since positive ion yields are low, alternative probes or strategies must be found for high sensitivity profiling of electropositive elements.  相似文献

Approximately one million antiprotons have been captured in a large Penning trap at the Low Energy Antiproton Ring at CERN. These antiprotons have subsequently been cooled by electron cooling. This has opened new discussions of the possible use of ultra-low energy antiprotons for nuclear, atomic, and gravitational physics. For most of these experiments, it will be necessary to extract the antiprotons from the trap in a continuous or bunched beam, allowing the timing structure to be used for post-acceleration schemes or as a time tag for the subsequent measurements. We have designed an extraction scheme to accomplish this and have tested portions of it using a smaller Penning trap loaded with protons. First results in generating a time-correlated beam of particles from a Penning trap are presented.  相似文献

The motivation of using electron cooling in low-energy antiproton storage rings and the expected cooling performance are discussed. Results obtained recently, during the first operation of electron cooling in LEAR at CERN with a 50 MeV proton beam, are summarized, concerning in particular the equilibrium beam properties, the recombination between cooling electrons and cooled protons, and the deceleartion of acceleration of protons by friction in the electron beam. Conclusions are drawn for the formation of antihydrogen with the cooled antiproton beam, and for the deceleration of antiprotons to energies close to or below 1 MeV.  相似文献

Kinematics predicts the severe suppression of low-energy (<1 GeV) secondary antiprotons in the Galactic cosmic rays. Thus the observation several years ago of a finite flux of low-energy antiprotons could not be explained with existing models of cosmic ray propagation, which led to a plethora of theoretical speculation. We have recently flown a balloon-borne instrument to measure the energy spectrum of cosmic-ray , and have found no antiprotons in the energy interval 200–640 MeV (corrected to the top of the atmosphere). This yields an upper limit to the ratio of 5.5×10−5 (90% confidence level), well below and hence contradicting the earlier result.  相似文献

An ionization beam profile monitor relying on a supersonic gas-jet shaped into an extended, thin curtain is proposed for operation in an ultra high vacuum environment for very low perturbation on the accelerated beam, as requested for the in-ring profile monitoring at the Ultra low energy Storage Ring (USR) at the Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR), in Darmstadt. In this paper, we describe the working principle of the monitor, as well as providing an analysis of sensitivity and resolution dependence on geometrical design and gas curtain thickness.  相似文献

Adiabatic cooling is shown to be a simple and effective method to cool many charged particles in a trap to very low temperatures. Up to 3×10(6) p are cooled to 3.5 K-10(3) times more cold p and a 3 times lower p temperature than previously reported. A second cooling method cools p plasmas via the synchrotron radiation of embedded e(-) (with many fewer e(-) than p in preparation for adiabatic cooling. No p are lost during either process-a significant advantage for rare particles.  相似文献

The production, collection and deceleration of antiprotons is reviewed with the aim of establishing guidelines for the design of a simple yet efficient source of stopped antiprotons. A high-energy (20–100 GeV) high-intensity (∼1013 protons/pulse) proton accelerator is needed to produce antiprotons in copious numbers. A “passive” conversion-target consisting of a thin iridium rod embedded in graphite, and a magnetic-horn type lens to collect the antiproton flux from the target represent a good compromise between yield and reliability. To transport the flux to low energy a large-acceptance cooling and deceleration ring working up to an energy equal to one-eighth to one-tenth of the primary proton energy is required. Stochastic cooling (at high energy) and electron cooling (at lower energy) are indispensable for providing low-energy beams of useful density. We measured atmospheric antiproton spectra in the energy range 0.2 to 3.4 GeV, at sea level and at balloon altitude in the atmospheric depth range 4.5 to 26 g/cm2. The observed energy spectra, including our previous measurements at mountain altitude, were compared with estimated spectra calculated on various assumptions regarding the energy distribution of antiprotons that interacted with air nuclei.  相似文献

Recent successes in trapping antiprotons suggest that portable traps can be used in several important applications. Included among these are medicine, laser physics, energy development, and nondestructive materials evaluation. 提出了一种能够实现极低反射率的光控高温超导开关的新结构-微带直线结构,并提出实现此结构的新方法-辐照均匀法。理论分析、仿真数据和可行性验证实验都表明,光控高温超导开关采用辐照均匀法和微带直线结构,可以有效地扩大超导开关光辐照通断点的受辐射面积;因光束光强分布更加均匀,使通断控制性能更高;微带直线结构使得特性阻抗变化完全消失,具有极低的反射率;利用光学元件能够有效控制激光光束直径的特点,使微带线宽指标设计更加灵活,光控超导开关的适应面更广。  相似文献

Energy dependence of proton-nucleus reaction cross section at very high energy is discussed. It is stressed that depending on the gluon distribution near the nuclear surface, proton-nucleous total cross section increases much more rapidly compared to the usual Glauber independent nucleon estimate. The recent observation of smaller X max than the expected value at UHECR domain can be an indication for such a mechanism.  相似文献

We present theoretical singly- and doubly-differential ionization cross sections in collisions between antiprotons and helium atoms at 50 and 100 keV impact energies. The calculations were performed within the frame work of the continuum distorted wave eikonal initial state approximation and a three-body classical trajectory Monte Carlo method. We find clear evidence for the formation of the anti-cusp in the differential distributions.  相似文献
