利用图解法系统地研究了由不同类型的单负材料作为包层的三层平板波导的模式特征.研究表明单负介质波导具有一系列奇异的特性,与传统介质波导或左手介质波导相比,此波导的芯区横向振荡导模的模折射率范围较大.除0阶导模外,其它TE,TM导模均为芯区横向振荡模,且同阶的TE、TM模的色散曲线几乎重合,只有0阶的TE,TM模才可以支持表面波的传播.单负介质的结构参数对0阶导模的影响较大.一定条件下,波导中可以出现0阶导模的完伞缺失或仅支持表面波的传输,还会出现超慢波现象,甚至可以共生都是后向波的0阶双模.  相似文献

The radiation modes of a five-layered symmetric slab waveguide are treated in detail. Since the slab is assumed to be infinitely extended in the yz plane, all field quantities are considered to be independent of y. The analysis is based on modal expansion formulation and the modes can be classified as TE and TM as well as even and odd ones. Applying the boundary conditions at interfaces, the expansion coefficients of the field components are easily calculated. In addition, the normalization factors and the orthogonality properties are determined by deriving appropriate integrals over the cross section of the waveguide. Finally, the validity of the orthogonality relations between the radiation modes and the guided ones, which propagate in such a waveguide, is proved explicitly.  相似文献

The dispersion relations of TE-polarized nonlinear guided waves (NGWs) in a symmetrical slab configuration (linear slab embedded between two identical media with a Kerr nonlinearity) are investigated in detail. Among even and odd NGWs the waveguide can support also NGWs, revealing an asymmetrical field pattern. The excitation of these NGWs requires a minimum guided power flux indicating a bifurcation of the corresponding dispersion curves.  相似文献

Radiation phenomena observed in a wedge shape ended dielectric slab waveguide are analyzed using mode matching technique. The case of transverse electric polarization (TE) being parallel to dielectric slab waveguide is assumed. In order to describe the fields in the wedge region, a stack of dielectric plates is assumed and in each layer the fields are expanded in terms of the mixed spectrum of guided and radiated modes. A similar expansion is used in the constant thickness slab waveguide while in free space medium a continuous-radiation mode expansion is used. Then a mode matching approach is applied, incorporating the orthogonality properties of mixed spectrum modes, in order to compute the wave fields inside the dielectric slab waveguide and wedge medium. Mode matching is achieved by discretizing the continuous radiation mode spectrum leading into a numerically stable solution provided a sufficient large number of points are used to convert integrals into finite summations. Numerical computations are carried out for various wedge geometries and shapes including linear and exponential profiles.  相似文献

The radiated power of scattered light caused by refractive-index inhomogeneities and waveguide wall irregularities in an asymmetric slab waveguide is investigated by using the stationary phase method on the basis of a first-order perturbation theory. The correlation between both imperfections of the refractive index and the waveguide wall is taken into consideration. It is found that the correlation between both imperfections hardly affects the radiated power caused by air radiation modes while it modifies the radiated power caused by substrate radiation modes.  相似文献

The scattering and radiation characteristics of a step discontinuity in left-handed (LH) slab waveguide operating in evanescent surface mode of TE and TM polarization are analyzed by a method, which combines the rigorous mode-matching method with the multi-mode network theory. In the analysis the radiation problem is transformed into a propagation problem so as to tremendously simplify the calculation procedure. The dispersion properties of the grounded planar LH slab waveguide for both ordinary and evanescent surface modes are examined, from which the left-hand property of the operating mode is testified. The relative scattered power and radiation pattern of the step are given for the first time, from which the backward radiation of the stepped LH guide is clearly demonstrated. The frequency scanning characteristics of the step under consideration in this paper are just opposite to that of the ordinary antenna, which makes the considered structure promising candidate for new type of planar antennas. This paper presents a novel E-plane rectangular-waveguide filter with three metal irises in Ka bard. Comparing with the conventional E-plane waveguide filter with single iris, a great improvment has been made in stop-band of a band pass filter, and wider pass band compare to normal double metal irises waveguide filter. An analysis is given by mode match method and the conservation of complex power technique [1]. Computer-aided design of a new five-resonator Ka band band pass filter has been presented, good agreement has been observed between theory and measurement data.  相似文献

用波导产生倍频波时,如果倍频波进入辐射模区,仍然有相匹配问题。契伦可夫辐射式倍频不是自动地实现相匹配的。相匹配要求导波基波模式场,倍频传输场(自由波),倍频触发场,以及经多次反射透射后的辐射场的迭加形成的总辐射场处于同步的相匹配状态。根据这个相匹配的分析,提出波导契伦可夫相匹配的特有的方法,那就是对波导的模色散进行设计,并指出非对称波导的特有优点,是改变一个边界上的反射相变,即选择不同色散的线性材料作包层,由此可得到相匹配的高效契伦可夫倍频辐射。  相似文献

The coupling between bound modes of a corrugated dielectric-slab waveguide and modes of the radiation continuum is analysed by a perturbation method. Loss coefficients that account for the power coupled into radiation modes by any Bragg order of corrugations with an arbitrary profile are determined for the bound modes. Agreement is found with published results for sinusoidal profiles. The proportion of power coupled out through each dielectric interface of the slab waveguide is also determined. When the corrugation has an asymmetric (blazed) profile and coupling to radiation modes is by the first Bragg order, more power can be coupled out through one interface than the other, even if the refractive indices of the cladding regions are equal. If the coupling is by a higher Bragg order, then the division of power can be considerably more unequal than for first-order coupling, with the greater proportion leaving the side of the waveguide opposite to that for first-order coupling. The ratio of the power coupled out the two sides varies cyclically with radiation wavelength.  相似文献

 根据辐射场测量并确定已知尺寸和工作频率的波导内可能存在的模式(即模式诊断)是一个电磁逆问题。针对该逆问题,利用电磁分析软件计算过模圆波导馈电圆锥喇叭天线的远区辐射场,通过比较多种模式以不同比例组合馈电产生的总辐射场之间的差异,研究模式诊断逆问题的病态程度。结果表明该逆问题病态严重,模式成分比例变化很大,但某些位置上辐射场变化较小甚至没有区别,即辐射场对各模式比例变化不敏感。如果在这些位置上测量则很难判断出各模式的成分,只有通过增加信息量才能缓解病态的严重程度,得到较准确的结果。通过分析,给出了对各模式组合比例变化敏感的测量位置。  相似文献

An asymmetric quantum well in graphene can act as a slab waveguide for electron waves in a manner analogous to the electromagnetic waves in dielectrics. Guided modes and the probability current density are analyzed in the graphene electron waveguide induced by asymmetric electrostatic potential. The modes in an asymmetric graphene waveguide include guided modes, “cover modes”, “substrate modes” and “radiation modes”. The conditions for a guided mode are quantified. It is found that the fundamental mode is absent when both the Klein tunneling and classical motion are present. The confinement of electrons for lower order mode is stronger than for higher order mode. We hope that these characteristics in asymmetric graphene waveguide can provide potential applications in graphene-based waveguide devices.  相似文献

The coupling and radiation characteristics of an improved dielectric waveguide directional coupler with a tapering left-handed slab core located in the coupling region are analyzed by the staircase approximation method, which combines the building block approach and multi-mode network theory with a rigorous mode-matching procedure. Particular attentions are directed toward the radiation characteristics under different structural parameters of the coupler. Numerical results indicate that the proposed coupler is very promising by shortening the coupling length significantly while keeping the radiation loss at a low level.  相似文献

The transverse modal behavior of Metal-Insulator (Oxide)-Semiconductor (MIS) heterostructure injection lasers is analyzed. MIS structures have been proposed by Jain and Marciniec as an alternate approach to p-n heterojunctions to obtain minority carrier injection and subsequent lasing action. In the modal analysis the MIS structure is treated as an asymmetrical three-layer slab waveguide with appropriate boundary conditions. Numerical computations of electric field strength, intensity and confinement factor P are presented for various GaAs and InP based MIS structures. A comparison of the output characteristics of a GaAs MIS laser with a conventional GaAs p-n double heterostructure laser is also reported.  相似文献

This paper concerns the experimental characteristics of metal coated dielectric waveguides with a rectangular surface corrugation. Waveguide are designed to operate at a second Bragg frequency of 90 GHz. The period, height and the duty cycle of a rectangular grating were calculated using the chosen frequency. A metallic layer of aluminum is sputtered on one side of the slab waveguide. The purpose of the metallic layer is to simulate a layer of high density plasma on the surface of the waveguide similar to that obtained by optical excitation of semiconductor structures. Experiments were performed to examine the far field radiation pattern, attenuation constant and the dispersion relation. Due to the presence of the plasma layer there will be an angular shift in the far field radiation pattern. We have observed angular shifts of about 20 in the radiation pattern of the waveguide before and after coating. Measurements are made in the frequency range of 88–95 GHz. This waveguide structure can be used to design an electronically steerable antenna and an electronic phase shifter operating in the millimeter-wave frequency band.Supported in part by the Army Research Office.  相似文献

A Unified Approach to the Analysis of a Category of H-Plane Discontinuities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Based on the mode matching method, the generalized scattering parameters including the fundamental and higher order modes (multi-modes) are obtained for the discontinuity interface of a category of waveguide H-plane discontinuities. Then by using a general port-connection order-decrease method raised by the author, the whole discontinuity including the two interfaces and the intermediate part of finite length or zero length (as is the case for very thin inductive windows or irises) can be combined into one network, and the generalized scattering parameters of this network can be obtained from which the scattering parameters of the fundamental mode can be extracted. If needed, the equivalent circuit parameters can be calculated directly from the scattering parameters. Examples are given to show the validity and versatility of this new method for dielectric filled waveguide, inductive iris and/or window, E-plane metal and/or finline insert, and even the offset E-plane finline insert, etc.. 提出了带有矩形过渡区的非对称Y分支光波导的两种设计方案。分别通过设置两分支波导不同的宽度和改变分支波导与矩形中心的轴偏移量,去获得非对称分支比。采用有限差分光束传播法(FD-BPM)对两种结构进行模拟,得出它们的分支比和损耗。分支比分别最高可达809/6和72.9%,其相对应的损耗分别低于0.12dB和0.23dB,充分证明了方案的可行性,为以后非对称Y分支光波导的制作提供了实验基础。  相似文献

A leaky mode is a bound mode below its cut-off frequency. It attenuates in the direction of propagation and approximates the portion of the radiation field within the optical waveguide that is significant far from the source. The characteristics, including attenuation coefficients, of leaky modes on the circular fibre are compared with those of the more familiar slab waveguide. Except for the HE1m leaky modes, leaky modes attenuate much faster on the slab than on the circular fibre. The greater the /(azimuthal field variation) the smaller the attenuatioN. Thus, theI?1 leaky modes are important even at great distances from the source. An effective cut-off frequency is proposed. Above this frequency the mode is either weakly leaky or trapped. An expression for the number of weakly leaky and trapped modes is given. The power of leaky modes due to illuminating one end of the fibre is determined. The effect of material absorption is considered.  相似文献

The theory of step-index waveguides is well-established. Most practical slab waveguide structures have a graded-index profile. The basic properties of graded-index planar waveguide structures are similar to those of step-index waveguides with subtle differences. The most common types of graded-index slab waveguides are linearly and exponentially graded-index profiles. We here treat linearly graded-index slab waveguide. In this work, a three-layer waveguide structure with linearly graded-index film is considered. We assume three structures: the first structure comprises a left-handed material (LHM) cladding, the second structure contains a LHM substrate layer and the third has a LHM cladding and substrate. Closed-form expressions for electric and magnetic fields and the characteristic equation are derived. The three normalized parameters: the asymmetry coefficient (a), the normalized film thickness (V) and the normalized guide index (b) are used to study the dispersion properties of the proposed slab waveguide structure.  相似文献
