The formation of dense arrays of nanospikes occurs under laser ablation of bulk targets (Ag, Au, Ta, Ti) immersed in liquids such as water or ethanol. The average height of spikes is 50 nm and their density on the target amounts to 1010 cm−2. The effect is observed with sufficiently short laser pulses. In particular, either a 350 ps or a 90 ps Nd:YAG lasers are used in their fundamental harmonics. The nanospikes are characterized by UV-Visible reflection spectrometry and atomic force microscopy. The oscillations of electrons within nanospikes result in a permanent coloration of the surface and a modification of the optical reflection spectra of the metal. Scanning the laser beam along the metal surface allows its nanostructuring over extended areas (∼1 cm2). The nanostructured Ag surface shows enhanced Raman scattering of acridine molecules at a concentration of 10−5 M/l, whereas the initial Ag targets do not show any signal within the accuracy of measurements.  相似文献

Long pulse laser shots of the PALS iodine laser in Prague have been used to obtain metal target ablation at various experimental conditions. Attention is paid mainly to the dependencies of the crater diameter on the position of minimum laser-focus spot with regard to the target surface, by using different laser wavelengths and laser energies. Not only a single one, but two minima, independently of the wavelength, of the target irradiation angle and of the target material, were recorded. Significant asymmetries, ascribed to the non-linear effects of intense laser beam with pre-formed plasma, were found, too. Estimations of ejected mass per laser pulse are reported and used to calculate the efficiency of laser-driven loading. Results on metal target ablation and crater formation at high intensities (from 2 × 1013 to 3 × 1016 W/cm2) are presented and compared. Crater depth, crater diameter and etching yield are reported versus the laser energy, in order to evaluate the ablation threshold fluence.  相似文献

Pulsed laser ablation of Ag and Au targets, immersed in double-distilled water is used to synthesize metallic nanoparticles (NPs). The targets are irradiated for 20 min by laser pulses at different wavelengths—the fundamental and the second harmonic (SHG) (λ = 1064 and 532 nm, respectively) of a Nd:YAG laser system. The ablation process is performed at a repetition rate of 10 Hz and with pulse duration of 15 ns. Two boundary values of the laser fluence for each wavelength under the experimental conditions chosen were used—it varied from several J/cm2 to tens of J/cm2. Only as-prepared samples were measured not later than two hours after fabrication. The NPs shape and size distribution were evaluated from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. The suspensions obtained were investigated by optical transmission spectroscopy in the near UV and in the visible region in order to get information about these parameters. Spherical shape of the NPs at the low laser fluence and appearance of aggregation and building of nanowires at the SHG and high laser fluence was seen. Dependence of the mean particle size at the SHG on the laser fluence was established. Comments on the results obtained have been also presented.  相似文献

The synthesis by pulsed laser deposition technique of zinc oxide thin films suitable for gas sensing applications is herein reported. The ZnO targets were irradiated by an UV KrF* (λ = 248 nm, τFWHM ∼7 ns) excimer laser source, operated at 2.8 J/cm2 incident fluence value, whilst the substrates consisted of SiO2(0 0 1) wafers heated at 150 °C during the thin films growth process. The experiments were performed in an oxygen dynamic pressure of 10 Pa. Structural and optical properties of the thin films were investigated. The obtained results have demonstrated that the films are c-axis oriented. Their average transmission in the visible-infrared spectral region was found to be about 85%. The equivalent refractive indexes and extinction coefficients were very close to those of the tabulated reference values. Doping with 0.5% Au and coating with 100 pulses of Au clusters caused but a very slight decrease (with a few percent) of both transmission and refractive index values. The coatings with the most appropriate optical properties as waveguides have been selected and their behavior was tested for butane sensing.  相似文献

The laser ablation of Ge and GaAs targets placed in water and ethanol was carried out using the fundamental radiation of nanosecond Nd:YLF laser. The results of preparation and the optical and nonlinear optical characterization of the Ge and GaAs nanoparticle suspensions are presented. The considerable shift of the band gap energy of the nanoparticles compared to the bulk semiconductors was observed. The distribution of nanoparticle sizes was estimated in the range of 1.5-10 nm on the basis of the TEM and spectral measurements. The nonlinear refractive indices and nonlinear absorption coefficients of Ge and GaAs nanoparticles were defined by the z-scan technique using second harmonic radiation of picosecond Nd:YAG laser (λ = 532 nm).  相似文献

Laser shock processing (LSP) has been proposed as a competitive alternative technology to classical treatments for improving fatigue and wear resistance of metals. We present a configuration and results for metal surface treatments in underwater laser irradiation at 1064 nm. A convergent lens is used to deliver 1.2 J/cm2 in a 8 ns laser FWHM pulse produced by 10 Hz Q-switched Nd:YAG, two laser spot diameters were used: 0.8 and 1.5 mm.Results using pulse densities of 2500 pulses/cm2 in 6061-T6 aluminum samples and 5000 pulses/cm2 in 2024 aluminum samples are presented. High level of compressive residual stresses are produced −1600 MPa for 6061-T6 Al alloy, and −1400 MPa for 2024 Al alloy. It has been shown that surface residual stress level is higher than that achieved by conventional shot peening and with greater depths. This method can be applied to surface treatment of final metal products.  相似文献

TiO2 film of around 850 nm in thickness was deposited on a soda-lime glass by PVD sputtering and irradiated using one pulse of krypton-fluorine (KrF) excimer laser (wavelength of 248 nm and pulse duration of 25 ns) with varying fluence. The color of the irradiated area became darker with increasing laser fluence. Irradiated surfaces were characterized using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Surface undergoes thermal annealing at low laser fluence of 400 and 590 mJ/cm2. Microcracks at medium laser fluence of 1000 mJ/cm2 are attributed to surface melting and solidification. Hydrodynamic ablation is proposed to explain the formation of micropores and networks at higher laser fluence of 1100 and 1200 mJ/cm2. The darkening effect is explained in terms of trapping of light in the surface defects formed rather than anatase to rutile phase transformation as reported by others. Controlled darkening of TiO2 film might be used for adjustable filters.  相似文献

We describe a compact, broadly tunable, continuous-wave (cw) Cr2+:ZnSe laser pumped by a thulium fiber laser at 1800 nm. In the experiments, a polycrystalline ZnSe sample with a chromium concentration of 9.5 × 1018 cm−3 was used. Free-running laser output was around 2500 nm. Output couplers with transmissions of 3%, 6%, and 15% were used to characterize the power performance of the laser. Best power performance was obtained with a 15% transmitting output coupler. In this case, as high as 640 mW of output power was obtained with 2.5 W of pump power at a wavelength of 2480 nm. The stimulated emission cross-section values determined from laser threshold data and emission measurements were in good agreement. Finally, broad, continuous tuning of the laser was demonstrated between 2240 and 2900 nm by using an intracavity Brewster cut MgF2 prism and a single set of optics.  相似文献

Calculations are presented for the first four (odd and even) harmonics of an 800 nm laser from a gold surface, with pulse widths ranging from 100 down to 14 fs. For peak laser intensities above 1 GW/cm2 the harmonics are enhanced because of a partial depletion of the initial electron states. At 1011 W/cm2 of peak laser intensity the calculated conversion efficiency for 2nd-harmonic generation is 3 × 10−9, while for the 5th-harmonic it is 10−10. The generated harmonic pulses are broadened and delayed relative to the laser pulse because of the finite relaxation times of the excited electronic states. The finite electron relaxation times cause also the broadening of the autocorrelations of the laser pulses obtained from surface harmonic generation by two time-delayed identical pulses. Comparison with recent experimental results shows that the response time of an autocorrelator using nonlinear optical processes in a gold surface is shorter than the electron relaxation times. This seems to indicate that for laser pulses shorter than ∼30 fs, the fast nonresonant channel for multiphoton excitation via continuum-continuum transitions in metals becomes important as the resonant channel becomes slow (relative to the laser pulse) and less efficient.  相似文献

Single-frequency diode lasers have been frequency stabilized to 1.5 kHz Allan deviation over 0.05-50 s integration times, with laser frequency drift reduced to less than 1.4 kHz/min, using the frequency reference provided by an ultranarrow inhomogeneously broadened Er3+:4I15/24I13/2 optical absorption transition at a vacuum wavelength of 1530.40 nm in a low-strain LiYF4 crystal. The 130 MHz full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) inhomogeneous line width of this reference transition is the narrowest reported for a solid at 1.5 μm. Strain-induced inhomogeneous broadening was reduced by using the single isotope 7Li and by the very similar radii of Er3+ and the Y3+ ions for which it substitutes. To show the practicability of cryogen-free cooling, this laser stability was obtained with the reference crystal at 5 K; moreover, this performance did not require vibrational isolation of either the laser or crystal frequency reference. Stabilization is feasible up to T=25 K where the Er3+ absorption thermally broadens to ∼500 MHz. This stabilized laser system provides a tool for interferometry, high-resolution spectroscopy, real-time optical signal processing based on spatial spectral holography and accumulated photon echoes, secondary frequency standards, and other applications such as quantum information science requiring narrow-band light sources or coherent detection.  相似文献

The continuous-wave (cw) and passive Q-switching operation of a diode-end-pumped gadolinium gallium garnet doped with neodymium (Nd:GGG) laser at 1062 nm was realized. A maximum cw output power of 6.9 W was obtained. The corresponding optical conversion efficiency was 50.9%, and the slope efficiency was determined to be 51.4%. By using Cr4+:YAG crystals as saturable absorbers, Q-switching pulse with average output power of 1.28 W, pulse width of 4 ns and repetition rate of 6.2 kHz were obtained. The single-pulse energy and peak power were estimated to be 206 μJ and 51.6 kW, respectively. The conversion efficiency of the output power from cw to Q-switching operation was as high as 84.7%.  相似文献

TiO2 has attracted a lot of attention due to its photocatalytic properties and its potential applications in environmental purification and self cleaning coatings, as well as for its high optical transmittance in the visible-IR spectral range, high chemical stability and mechanical resistance. In this paper, we report on the growth of TiO2 nanocrystalline films on Si (1 0 0) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Rutile sintered targets were irradiated by KrF excimer laser (λ = 248 nm, pulse duration ∼30 ns) in a controlled oxygen environment and at constant substrate temperature of 650 °C. The structural and morphological properties of the films have been studied for different deposition parameters, such as oxygen partial pressure (0.05-5 Pa) and laser fluence (2- 4 J/cm2). X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows the formation of both rutile and anatase phases; however, it is observed that the anatase phase is suppressed at the highest laser fluences. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were performed to determine the stoichiometry of the grown films. The surface morphology of the deposits, studied by scanning electron (SEM) and atomic force (AFM) microscopies, has revealed nanostructured films. The dimensions and density of the nanoparticles observed at the surface depend on the partial pressure of oxygen during growth. The smallest particles of about 40 nm diameter were obtained for the highest pressures of inlet gas.  相似文献

Nickel films of different thickness ranging from 15 nm to 350 nm were deposited on glass substrates, at different substrate temperatures (313-600 K) under UHV condition. The nano-structure of the films was obtained, using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The nano-strain in these films was obtained using the Warren-Averbach method. Their optical properties were measured by spectrophotometry in the spectral range of 190-2500 nm. Kramers-Kronig method was used for the analysis of the reflectivity curves. The absorption peaks of Ni thin films at ∼1.4 eV (transition between the bands near W and K symmetry points) and ∼5.0 eV (transition from L2 to L1 upper) are observed, with an additional bump at about 2 eV. The over-layer thickness was calculated to be less than 3.0 nm, using the Transfer Matrix method. The changes in optical data are related to different phenomena, such as different crystallographic orientations of the grains in these polycrystalline films (film texture), nano-strain, and film surface roughness.  相似文献

The white light continuum (WLC) generated in water/D2O mixture by pumping with the fundamental of ps Nd+3:YAG laser has been used as a variable frequency source for the sum frequency generation as well as for its amplification. 35 ps long pulses with 8 mJ energy at 1064 nm were mixed collinearly with the WLC generated by the same laser beam in a 20 mm thick BBO crystal. The obtained tunable output has been identified as the sum frequency between the fundamental and a portion of the WLC with the required phase matching. Theoretical simulations are also given along with a few initial experiments to use this combination for the difference frequency generation (optical parametric amplification) under non-collinear geometry.  相似文献

High intensities laser pulses are capable to generate a crater when irradiating metal targets. In such condition, after each irradiation significant ablation occurs on the target surface and as a result a crater is formed. The crater characterization is very important specifically for some applications such as micromachining. In this paper, the crater formation in metal targets was studied experimentally. The planar aluminum 5052 targets were irradiated by frequency doubled (532 nm), Q-switched Nd:YAG (∼6 ns) laser beam in ambient air and distilled water. A crater was produced after each irradiation and it was characterized by an optical microscope. Different laser intensities as well as pulse trains were applied for crater formation. The effects of laser characteristics in crater geometry were examined. The depth of the craters was measured by optical microscope and the diameter (width) was characterized by processing of the crater image. The results were explained in terms of ablation threshold and plasma shielding. The results show that the crater geometry extremely depends on the laser pulse intensity, the number of laser pulses, and ambient.  相似文献

Thin Er3+, Yb3+ co-doped Y2O3 films were grown on (1 0 0) YAG substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Ceramic targets having different active ion concentration were used for ablation. The influence of the rare-earth content and oxygen pressure applied during the deposition on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the films were investigated. The films deposited at the lower pressure, 1 Pa, and at 1/10 Er to Yb doping ratio are highly textured along the (1 1 1) direction of the Y2O3 cubic phase. In addition to the crystalline structure, these films possess smoother surface compared to those prepared at the higher pressure, 10 Pa. All other films are polycrystalline, consisting of cubic and monoclinic phases of Y2O3. The rougher surface of the films produced at the higher-pressure leads to higher scattering losses and different behavior of the reflectivity spectra. Optical anisotropy in the films of less than 0.004 was measured regardless of the monoclinic structure obtained. Waveguide losses of about 1 dB/cm at 633 nm were obtained for the films produced at the lower oxygen pressure.  相似文献

ZnS nanoparticles were prepared by a simple chemical method and using PVP (poly vinylpyrrolidone) as capping agent. The sample was characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Z-scan technique. XRD pattern showed that the ZnS nanoparticles had zinc blende structure with an average size of about 2.18 nm. The value of band gap of these nanoparticles was measured to be 4.20 eV. The nonlinear optical properties of ZnS nanoparticles in aqueous solution were studied by Z-scan technique using CW He-Ne laser at 632.8 nm. The nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) was estimated to be as high as 3.2×10−3 cm/W and the nonlinear refractive index (n2) was in order of 10−8 cm2/W. The sign of the nonlinear refractive index obtained negative that indicated this material exhibits self-defocusing optical nonlinearity.  相似文献

Laser induced backside dry etching method (LIBDE) was developed - analogously to the well-known laser induced backside wet etching (LIBWE) technique - for the micromachining of transparent materials. In this procedure, the absorbing liquid applied during LIBWE was replaced with solid metal layers. Fused silica plates were used as transparent targets. These were coated with 15-120 nm thick layers of different metals (silver, aluminium and copper). The absorbing films were irradiated by a nanosecond KrF excimer laser beam through the quartz plate. The applied fluence was varied in the 150-2000 mJ/cm2 range, while the irradiated area was between 0.35 and 3.6 mm2. At fluences above the threshold values, it was found that the metal layers were removed from the irradiated spots and the fused silica was etched at the same time. In our experiments, we investigated the dependence of the main parameters (etch rate and threshold) of LIBDE on the absorption of the different metal layers (silver, copper, aluminium), on the size of the irradiated area, on the film thickness and on the number of processing laser pulses.  相似文献

Novel highly c-oriented tungsten-doped zinc oxide (WZO) thin films with 1 wt% were grown by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique on corning 1737F glass substrate. The effects of laser energy on the structural, morphological as well as optical transmission properties of the films were studied. The films were highly transparent with average transmittance exceeding 87% in the wavelength region lying between 400 and 2500 nm. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results indicated that the WZO films had c-axis preferred orientation with wurtzite structure. Film thickness and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the (0 0 2) peaks of the films were found to be dependent on laser fluence. The composition determined through Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) appeared to be independent of the laser fluence. By assuming a direct band gap transition, the band gap values of 3.36, 3.34 and 3.31 eV were obtained for corresponding laser fluence of 1, 1.7 and 2.7 J cm−2, respectively. Compared with the reported undoped ZnO band gap value of 3.37 eV, it is conjectured that the observed low band gap values obtained in this study may be attributable to tungsten incorporation in the films as well as the increase in laser fluence. The high transparency makes the films useful as optical windows while the high band gap values support the idea that the films could be good candidates for optoelectronic applications.  相似文献

Changes of thermal diffusivity inside femtosecond laser-structured volumes as small as few percent were reliably determined (with standard deviation less than 1%) with miniaturized sensors. An increase of thermal diffusivity of a crystalline high-density polyethylene (HDPE) inflation films by 10-20% from the measured (1.16 ± 0.01) × 10−7 m2 s−1 value in regions not structured by femtosecond laser pulses is considerably larger than that of non-crystalline polymers, 0-3%. The origin of the change of thermal diffusivity are interplay between the laser induced disordering, voids’ formation, compaction, and changes in molecular orientation. It is shown that laser structuring can be used to modify thermal and optical properties. The birefringence and infrared spectroscopy with thermal imaging of CH2 vibrations are confirming inter-relation between structural, optical, and thermal properties of the laser-structured crystalline HDPE inflation films. Birefringence modulation as high as Δn ∼ ± 1 × 10−3 is achieved with grating structures.  相似文献
