The spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagomé lattice, is mapped by contractor renormalization to a spin-pseudospin Hamiltonian on the triangular superlattice. Variationally, we find a ground state with columnar dimer order. Dimer orientation fluctuations are described by an effective O(2) model at energies above an exponentially suppressed clock mass scale. Our results explain the large density of low-energy singlets observed numerically, and the nonmagnetic T2 specific heat observed experimentally.  相似文献

Y0.5Ca0.5BaCo4O7 contains kagomé layers of Co ions, whose spins are strongly coupled, with a Curie-Weiss temperature of -2200 K. At low temperature, T=1.2 K, our diffuse neutron scattering study with polarization analysis reveals characteristic spin correlations close to a predicted two-dimensional coplanar ground state with staggered chirality. The absence of three-dimensional long-range antiferromagnetic order indicates negligible coupling between the kagomé layers. The scattering intensities are consistent with high spin S=3/2 states of Co2+ in the kagomé layers and low spin S=0 states for Co3+ ions on interlayer sites. Our observations agree with previous Monte Carlo simulations indicating a ground state of effectively short range, staggered chiral spin order.  相似文献

Dynamical magnetic correlations in the geometrically frustrated Nd(3)Ga(5)SiO(14) compound were probed by inelastic neutron scattering on a single crystal. A scattering signal with a ring shape distribution in reciprocal space and unprecedented dispersive features was discovered. Comparison with calculated static magnetic scattering from models of correlated spins suggests that the observed phase is a spin liquid inherent to an antiferromagnetic kagomé-like lattice of anisotropic Nd moments.  相似文献

The thermal order by disorder effect in magnetic field is studied for a classical Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the Kagomé lattice. Using analytical arguments we predict a unique H- T phase diagram for this strongly frustrated magnet: states with a coplanar and a uniaxial triatic order parameter, respectively, at low and high magnetic fields and an incompressible collinear spin-liquid state at one-third of the saturation field. We also present the Monte Carlo data which confirm the existence of these phases.  相似文献

The problem of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in the highly frustrated XY kagomé antiferromagnet is solved. The transition temperature is found. It is shown that the spin correlation function exponentially decays with distance even in the low-temperature phase, in contrast to the order parameter correlation function, which decays algebraically with distance.  相似文献

We present muSR experiments in the S=3/2 kagomé bilayer compound Ba(2)Sn(2)ZnGa(10-7p)Cr(7p)O22 [BSZCGO(p)] and compare it to the isostructural SrCr(9p)Ga(12-9p)O19 [SCGO(p)], including for the latter new results for p > or =0.89. Quantum-dynamical low energy magnetic excitations are evidenced in this novel compound. We study the evolution of the muon relaxation rate with p, T, and field. A phenomenological model for the muon relaxation based on sporadic dynamics due to spin excitations in a singlet sea proposed by Uemura et al. is extended to all fields and T range. Its connection to the RVB picture is discussed, and we argue that such coherent states might mediate the interactions between "impurities" which induce the spin glass freezing.  相似文献

The spin wave excitations of the S=5/2 kagomé lattice antiferromagnet KFe3(OH)6(SO4)2 have been measured using high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering. We directly observe a flat mode which corresponds to a lifted "zero energy mode," verifying a fundamental prediction for the kagomé lattice. A simple Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian provides an excellent fit to our spin wave data. The antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is the primary source of anisotropy and explains the low-temperature magnetization and spin structure.  相似文献

The volborthite compound is one of the very few realizations of S=1/2 quantum spins on a highly frustrated kagomé-like lattice. Low-T SQUID measurements reveal a broad magnetic transition below 2 K which is further confirmed by a peak in the 51V nuclear spin relaxation rate (1/T1) at 1.4 K +/- 0.2 K. Through 51V NMR, the ground state (GS) appears to be a mixture of different spin configurations, among which 20% corresponds to a well defined short-range order, possibly of the sqrt(3) x sqrt(3) type. While the freezing involves all the Cu2+ spins, only 40% of the copper moment is actually frozen which suggests that quantum fluctuations strongly renormalize the GS.  相似文献

AgNiO2, a model compound of an S=1/2 triangular lattice, was studied by muon spin relaxation in addition to ac, dc susceptibility, electrical resistivity and neutron diffraction. The relaxation rate shows a sharp peak at around TN=28 K followed by a sudden decrease of initial asymmetry indicating a magnetic ordering. Three internal fields ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 T were obtained from the muon precession period. However, a neutron diffraction experiment failed to detect any magnetic order at low temperatures. From these results, it was concluded that magnetic coherence is confined to small domain compared with the coherence length of neutron diffraction due to spin frustration. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We study low temperature properties of a spinless interacting Fermi gas in the trimerized kagomé lattice. The case of two fermions per trimer is described by a quantum spin 1/2 model on the triangular lattice with couplings depending on the bond directions. Using exact diagonalizations we show that the system exhibits nonstandard properties of a quantum spin-liquid crystal, combining a planar antiferromagnetic order with an exceptionally large number of low-energy excitations.  相似文献

Muon spin relaxation and magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed on the pure and diluted spin 1/2 kagomé system (CuxZn(1-x))3V2O7(OH)2 2H2O. In the pure x=1 system we found a slowing down of Cu spin fluctuations with decreasing temperature towards T approximately 1 K, followed by slow and nearly temperature-independent spin fluctuations persisting down to T=50 mK, indicative of quantum fluctuations. No indication of static spin freezing was detected in either of the pure (x=1.0) or diluted samples. The observed magnitude of fluctuating fields indicates that the slow spin fluctuations represent an intrinsic property of kagomé network rather than impurity spins.  相似文献
