Ovoids in finite polar spaces are related to many other objects in finite geometries. In this article, we prove some new upper bounds for the size of partial ovoids in Q (2n+1,q) and W(2n+ 1,q). Further, we give a combinatorial proof for the non-existence of ovoids of H(2n +1,q 2) for n>q 3.  相似文献

We show that every sub-weak embedding of any singular (degenerate or not) orthogonal or unitary polar space of non-singular rank at least 3 in a projective space PG , a commutative field, is the projection of a full embedding in some subspace PG of PG , where PG contains PG and is a subfield of . The same result is proved in the symplectic case under the assumption that the field over which the polarity is defined is perfect if the characteristic is 2 and if each secant line of the embedded polar space contains exactly two points of . This completes the classification of all sub-weak embeddings of orthogonal, symplectic and unitary polar spaces (singular or not; degenerate or not) of non-singular rank at least 3 and defined over a commutative field , where in the characteristic 2 case is perfect if the polar space is symplectic and the degree of the embedding is 2.  相似文献

In an earlier paper 7, some properties of the eigenspaces of the Bose-Mesner-algebras of association schemes are figured out, leaving open the problem of determining the eigenspaces. In the present paper, these eigenspaces and the eigenvalues are determined for projective spaces and for polar spaces. This allows characterizations of certain sets of subspaces of these geometries.  相似文献

In bose&burton, Bose and Burton determined the smallest point sets of PG(d, q) that meet every subspace of PG(d, q) of a given dimension c. In this paper an equivalent result for quadrics of elliptic type is obtained. It states the folloing. For 0 c n - 1 the smallest point set of the elliptic quadric Q -(2n + 1, q) that meets every singular subspace of dimension c of Q -(2n + 1, q) has cardinality (q n+1 + q c )(q n-c - 1)/(q - 1). Furthermore, the point sets of the smallest cardinality are classified.  相似文献

A characterization of n-dimensional spaces via continuous selections avoiding Z n -sets is given, and a selection theorem for strongly countable-dimensional spaces is established. We apply these results to prove a generalized Ostrand's theorem, and to obtain a new alternative proof of the Hurewicz formula. It is also shown that our selection theorem yields an easy proof of a Michael's result.  相似文献

Without further assumptions, we prove that a p-frame allows every gX * to be represented as an unconditionally convergent series g=d i g i for coefficients {d i } q , where 1/p+1/q=1. A p-frame {g i } is not necessarily linear independent, so {g i } is some kind of overcomplete basis for X *. We prove that a q-Riesz basis for X * is a p-frame for X and that the associated coefficient functionals {f i } constitutes a p-Riesz basis allowing us to expand every fX (respectively gX *) as f=g i (f)f i (respectively g=g(f i )g i ). In analogy with effect algebras, we introduce the test spaces and MV-test spaces. A test corresponds to a hypothesis on the propositional system, or, equivalently, to a partition of unity. We show that there is a close correspondence between MV-algebras and MV-test spaces.  相似文献

A DC-space (or space of dense constancies) is a Tychonoff space X such that for each f C(X) there is a family of open sets {U i : i I}, the union of which is dense in X, such that f, restricted to each U i , is constant. A number of characterizations of DC-spaces are given, which lead to an algebraic generalization of the concept, which, in turn, permits analysis of DC-spaces in the language of archimedean f-algebras. One is led naturally to the notion of an almost DC-space (in which the densely constant functions are dense), and it is shown that all metrizable spaces have this property.  相似文献

In this paper we study Banach spaces that admit weighted Chebyshev centres for finite sets. Such spaces have been extensively studied recently by Veselý using the approach of finitely intersecting balls. Following his approach we exhibit large classes of Banach spaces that have this property. Certain stability results for spaces of vector valued continuous and Bochner integrable functions are also obtained.  相似文献

We study the existence theory for parabolic variational inequalities in weighted L 2 spaces with respect to excessive measures associated with a transition semigroup. We characterize the value function of optimal stopping problems for finite and infinite dimensional diffusions as a generalized solution of such a variational inequality. The weighted L 2 setting allows us to cover some singular cases, such as optimal stopping for stochastic equations with degenerate diffusion coefficient. As an application of the theory, we consider the pricing of American-style contingent claims. Among others, we treat the cases of assets with stochastic volatility and with path-dependent payoffs.  相似文献

The norms on these spaces are defined via integral norms of the difference of the function f of order m > s treated as a function of the point of the domain and of the difference increment. In this paper the question of what classes A of T 0-spaces should be paired with classes of domains in order that all function spaces [AB] for AA and B are -compact domains is considered. It is shown that core compact spaces are paired with bounded complete domains and a class of topological spaces called RW-spaces (with finitely many components) is paired with the class of -compact pointed L-domains (L-domains).  相似文献

Functions which map n-bits to m-bits are important cryptographic sub-primitives in the design of additive stream ciphers. We construct highly nonlinear t-resilient such functions ((n, m, t) functions) by using a class of binary disjoint codes, a construction which was introduced in IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, Vol. IT-49 (2) (2003). Our main contribution concerns the generation of suitable sets of such disjoint codes. We propose a deterministic method for finding disjoint codes of length ν m by considering the points of PG ). We then obtain some lower bounds on the number of disjoint codes, by fixing some parameters. Through these sets, we deduce in certain cases the existence of resilient functions with very high nonlinearity values. We show how, thanks to our method, the degree and the differential properties of (n, m, t) functions can be improved.Communicated by: J.D. Key  相似文献

The closed model category of exterior spaces, that contains the proper category, is a useful tool for the study of non compact spaces and manifolds. The notion of exterior weak ℕ-S-equivalences is given by exterior maps which induce isomorphisms on the k-th ℕ-exterior homotopy groups for k ∈ S, where S is a set of non negative integers. The category of exterior spaces with a base ray localized by exterior weak ℕ-S-equivalences is called the category of exterior ℕ-S-types. The existence of closed model structures in the category of exterior spaces permits to establish equivalences between homotopy categories obtained by dividing by exterior homotopy relations, and categories of fractions (localized categories) given by the inversion of classes of week equivalences. The family of neighbourhoods ‘at infinity’ of an exterior space can be interpreted as a global prospace and under the condition of first countable at infinity we can consider a global tower instead of a prospace. The objective of this paper is to use localized categories to find the connection between S-types of exterior spaces and S-types of global towers of spaces. The main result of this paper establishes an equivalence between the category of S-types of rayed first countable exterior spaces and the category of S-types of global towers of pointed spaces. As a consequence of this result, categories of global towers of algebraic models localized up to weak equivalences can be used to give some algebraic models of S-types.
