We study a PH/G/1 queue in which the arrival process and the service times depend on the state of an underlying Markov chain J(t) on a countable state spaceE. We derive the busy period process, waiting time and idle time of this queueing system. We also study the Markov modulated EK/G/1 queueing system as a special case.  相似文献

We consider a finite buffer batch service queueing system with multiple vacations wherein the input process is Markovian arrival process (MAP). The server leaves for a vacation as soon as the system empties and is allowed to take repeated (multiple) vacations. The service- and vacation- times are arbitrarily distributed. We obtain the queue length distributions at service completion, vacation termination, departure, arbitrary and pre-arrival epochs. Finally, some performance measures such as loss probability, average queue lengths are discussed. Computational procedure has been given when the service- and vacation- time distributions are of phase type (PH-distribution).  相似文献

We investigate the optimal management problem of an M/G/1/K queueing system with combined F policy and an exponential startup time. The F policy queueing problem investigates the most common issue of controlling the arrival to a queueing system. We present a recursive method, using the supplementary variable technique and treating the supplementary variable as the remaining service time, to obtain the steady state probability distribution of the number of customers in the system. The method is illustrated analytically for exponential service time distribution. A cost model is established to determine the optimal management F policy at minimum cost. We use an efficient Maple computer program to calculate the optimal value of F and some system performance measures. Sensitivity analysis is also investigated.  相似文献

In queueing theory, most models are based on time-homogeneous arrival processes and service time distributions. However, in communication networks arrival rates and/or the service capacity usually vary periodically in time. In order to reflect this property accurately, one needs to examine periodic rather than homogeneous queues. In the present paper, the periodic BMAP/PH/c queue is analyzed. This queue has a periodic BMAP arrival process, which is defined in this paper, and phase-type service time distributions. As a Markovian queue, it can be analysed like an (inhomogeneous) Markov jump process. The transient distribution is derived by solving the Kolmogorov forward equations. Furthermore, a stability condition in terms of arrival and service rates is proven and for the case of stability, the asymptotic distribution is given explicitly. This turns out to be a periodic family of probability distributions. It is sketched how to analyze the periodic BMAP/M t /c queue with periodically varying service rates by the same method.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a discrete time queueing system with multiple types of customers and a first-come-first-served (FCFS) service discipline. Customers arrive according to a semi-Markov arrival process and the service times of individual customers have PH-distributions. A GI/M/1 type Markov chain for a generalized age process of batches of customers is introduced. The steady state distribution of the GI/M/1 type Markov chain is found explicitly and, consequently, the steady state distributions of the age of the batch in service, the total workload in the system, waiting times, and sojourn times of different batches and different types of customers are obtained. We show that the generalized age process and a generalized total workload process have the same steady state distribution. We prove that the waiting times and sojourn times have PH-distributions and find matrix representations of those PH-distributions. When the arrival process is a Markov arrival process with marked transitions, we construct a QBD process for the age process and the total workload process. The steady state distributions of the waiting times and the sojourn times, both at the batch level and the customer level, are obtained from the steady state distribution of the QBD process. A number of numerical examples are presented to gain insight into the waiting processes of different types of customers.AMS subject classification: 60K25, 60J10This revised version was published online in June 2005 with corrected coverdate  相似文献

We study multiclass queueing networks with the earliest-due-date, first-served (EDDFS) discipline. For these networks, the service priority of a customer is determined, upon its arrival in the network, by an assigned random due date. First-in-system, first-out queueing networks, where a customer's priority is given by its arrival time in the network, are a special case. Using fluid models, we show that EDDFS queueing networks, without preemption, are stable whenever the traffic intensity satisfies j <1 for each station j.  相似文献

We obtain optimal bounds of order O(n −1) for the rate of convergence to the semicircle law and to the Marchenko-Pastur law for the expected spectral distribution functions of random matrices from the GUE and LUE, respectively. This paper studies a multi-server queueing system with multiple types of customers and last-come-first-served (LCFS) non-preemptive service discipline. First, a quasi-birth-and-death (QBD) Markov process with a tree structure is defined and some classical results of QBD Markov processes are generalized. Second, the MMAP[K]/PH[K]/N/LCFS non-preemptive queue is introduced. Using results of the QBD Markov process with a tree structure, explicit formulas are derived and an efficient algorithm is developed for computing the stationary distribution of queue strings. Numerical examples are presented to show the impact of the correlation and the pattern of the arrival process on the queueing process of each type of customer.  相似文献

We consider the M/G/1 queueing system in which customers whose admission to the system would increase the workload beyond a prespecified finite capacity limit are not accepted. Various results on the distribution of the workload are derived; in particular, we give explicit formulas for its stationary distribution for M/M/1 and in the general case, under the preemptive LIFO discipline, for the joint stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system and their residual service times. Furthermore, the Laplace transform of the length of a busy period is determined. Finally, for M/D/1 the busy period distribution is derived in closed form.  相似文献

This paper proposes a polynomial factorization approach for queue length distribution of discrete time GI X /G/1 and GI X /G/1/K queues. They are analyzed by using a two-component state model at the arrival and departure instants of customers. The equilibrium state-transition equations of state probabilities are solved by a polynomial factorization method. Finally, the queue length distributions are then obtained as linear combinations of geometric series, whose parameters are evaluated from roots of a characteristic polynomial.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. This paper presents a state reduction based algorithm for computing the steady state probability vectors of the embedded Markov chains ofM/G/1 type. The algorithm is based on the use of the notion of a state reduction box for streamlining compution. The computational details are linked directly to the theoretical results developed recently by Grassmann and Heyman [6]. Exploiting these connections and a method given in Neuts [18] for finding theG matrix forPH/PH/1 queues, we also propose an hybrid approach for solvingPH/PH/1 queues. Using several numerical examples, we report our computational experiences and present some observations about the relative merits of these approaches.  相似文献

An ND/D/1 queueing model means that N independent periodic sources are served by a single server and the packets have the same size. These models have received close attention as general queueing models in telecommunications. Both discrete models, where it is only permitted to transmit packets at fixed time instances, and also continuous models, where the time of transmission is not restricted, can be applied in the modeling. This paper provides the exact distribution of the cumulative idle time duration in such queuing systems and also proposes accurate approximation formulae for large systems. The results of this paper are of practical significance because existing approximations of the distribution of the cumulative idle time can be replaced by the proposed formulae.AMS subject classification: 68M20, 60K25This revised version was published online in June 2005 with corrected coverdate  相似文献

The PH/PH/1 queue is considered at embedded epochs which form the union of arrival and departure instants. This provides us with a new, compact representation as a quasi-birth-and-death process, where the order of the blocks is the sum of the number of phases in the arrival and service time distributions. It is quite easy to recover, from this new embedded process, the usual distributions at epochs of arrival, or epochs of departure, or at arbitrary instants. The quasi-birth-and-death structure allows for efficient algorithmic procedures. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We consider an M/PH/1 queue with workload-dependent balking. An arriving customer joins the queue and stays until served if and only if the system workload is no more than a fixed level at the time of his arrival. We begin by considering a fluid model where the buffer content changes at a rate determined by an external stochastic process with finite state space. We derive systems of first-order linear differential equations for the mean and LST (Laplace-Stieltjes Transform) of the busy period in this model and solve them explicitly. We obtain the mean and LST of the busy period in the M/PH/1 queue with workload-dependent balking as a special limiting case of this fluid model. We illustrate the results with numerical examples.   相似文献

We study a GI/M/c type queueing system with vacations in which all servers take vacations together when the system becomes empty. These servers keep taking synchronous vacations until they find waiting customers in the system at a vacation completion instant. The vacation time is a phase-type (PH) distributed random variable. Using embedded Markov chain modeling and the matrix geometric solution methods, we obtain explicit expressions for the stationary probability distributions of the queue length at arrivals and the waiting time. To compare the vacation model with the classical GI/M/c queue without vacations, we prove conditional stochastic decomposition properties for the queue length and the waiting time when all servers are busy. Our model is a generalization of several previous studies.  相似文献

Many models for customers impatience in queueing systems have been studied in the past; the source of impatience has always been taken to be either a long wait already experienced at a queue, or a long wait anticipated by a customer upon arrival. In this paper we consider systems with servers vacations where customers’ impatience is due to an absentee of servers upon arrival. Such a model, representing frequent behavior by waiting customers in service systems, has never been treated before in the literature. We present a comprehensive analysis of the single-server, M/M/1 and M/G/1 queues, as well as of the multi-server M/M/c queue, for both the multiple and the single-vacation cases, and obtain various closed-form results. In particular, we show that the proportion of customer abandonments under the single-vacation regime is smaller than that under the multiple-vacation discipline. In this paper continuity theorems are established for the number of losses during a busy period of the M/M/1/n queue. We consider an M/GI/1/n queueing system where the service time probability distribution, slightly different in a certain sense from the exponential distribution, is approximated by that exponential distribution. Continuity theorems are obtained in the form of one or two-sided stochastic inequalities. The paper shows how the bounds of these inequalities are changed if further assumptions, associated with specific properties of the service time distribution (precisely described in the paper), are made. Specifically, some parametric families of service time distributions are discussed, and the paper establishes uniform estimates (given for all possible values of the parameter) and local estimates (where the parameter is fixed and takes only the given value). The analysis of the paper is based on the level crossing approach and some characterization properties of the exponential distribution. When queueing models are used for performance analysis of some stochastic system, it is usually assumed that the system is in steady-state. Whether or not this is a realistic assumption depends on the speed at which the system tends to its steady-state. A characterization of this speed is known in the queueing literature as relaxation time. The discrete D/G/1 queue has a wide range of applications. We derive relaxation time asymptotics for the discrete D/G/1 queue in a purely analytical way, mostly relying on the saddle point method. We present a simple and useful approximate upper bound which is sharp in case the load on the system is not very high. A sharpening of this upper bound, which involves the complementary error function, is then developed and this covers both the cases of low and high loads. For the discrete D/G/1 queue, the stationary waiting time distribution can be expressed in terms of infinite series that follow from Spitzer’s identity. These series involve convolutions of the probability distribution of a discrete random variable, which makes them suitable for computation. For practical purposes, though, the infinite series should be truncated. The relaxation time asymptotics can be applied to determine an appropriate truncation level based on a sharp estimate of the error caused by truncating. This revised version was published online in June 2005 with corrected coverdate  相似文献
