In this paper we study a system composed of a supplier and buyer(s). We assume that the buyer faces random demand with a known distribution function. The supplier faces a known production lead time. The main objective of this study is to determine the optimal delivery lead time and the resulting location of the system inventory. In a system with a single-supplier and a single-buyer it is shown that system inventory should not be split between a buyer and supplier. Based on system parameters of shortage and holding costs, production lead times, and standard deviations of demand distributions, conditions indicating when the supplier or buyer(s) should keep the system inventory are derived. The impact of changes to these parameters on the location of system inventory is examined. For the case with multiple buyers, it is found that the supplier holds inventory for the buyers with the smallest standard deviations, while the buyers with the largest standard deviations hold their own inventory.  相似文献

One of the interesting subjects in supply chain management is supply management, which generally relates to the activities regarding suppliers such as empowerment, evaluation, partnerships and so on. A major objective of supplier evaluation involves buyers determining the optimal quota allocated to each supplier when placing an order. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective model in which purchasing cost, rejected units, and late delivered units are minimized, while the obtained total score from the supplier evaluation process is maximized. We assume that the buyer obtains multiple products from a number of predetermined suppliers. The buyer faces a stochastic demand with a probability distribution of Poisson regarding each product type. A major assumption is that the supplier prices are linearly dependent on the order size of each product. Since demand is stochastic, the buyer may incur holding and stockout costs in addition to the regular purchasing cost. We use the well-known L-1 metric method to solve the supplier evaluation problem by utilizing two meta-heuristic algorithms to solve the corresponding mathematical problems.  相似文献

We address the coordination problem in a single-supplier/multiple-buyer supply chain. The supplier wishes to coordinate the supply chain by offering quantity discounts. To obtain their complete cost information, the supplier exchanges his own cost parameters with buyers leading to vertical information sharing. The supplier thinks that the buyers, as they have access to supplier’s setup and holding cost information, may demand a portion of the anticipated coordination savings based on the partial information they hold about the cost structure of the entire supply chain. We model each buyer’s expectations based on her limited view of the entire supply chain which consists of herself and the supplier only. These expectations are then incorporated into the modeling of the supply chain, which results in a generalization of the traditional Stackelberg type models. We discuss alternative efficiency sharing mechanisms, and propose methods to design the associated discount schemes that take buyers’ expectations into account. In designing the discount schemes, we consider both price discriminatory and non-price discriminatory approaches. The study adds to the existing body of work by incorporating buyers’ expectations into a constrained Stackelberg structure, and by achieving coordination without forcing buyers to explicitly comply with the supplier’s replenishment period in choosing their order quantities. The numerical analysis of the coordination efficiency and allocation of the net savings of the proposed discount schemes shows that the supplier is still able to coordinate the supply chain with high efficiency levels, and retain a significant portion of the net savings.  相似文献

This research applies the discriminating auction to analyze the online B2B exchange market in which a single buyer requests multiple items and several suppliers having equal capacity and asymmetric cost submit bids to compete for buyer demand. In the present model, we examine the impact of asymmetric cost and incomplete information on the participants in the market. Given the complete cost information, each supplier randomizes its price and the lower bound of the price range is determined by the highest marginal cost. In addition, the supplier with a lower marginal cost has a larger considered pricing space but ultimately has a smaller equilibrium one than others with higher marginal costs. When each supplier’s marginal cost is private information, the lowest possible price is determined by the number of suppliers and the buyer’s reservation price. Comparing these two market settings, we find whether IT is beneficial to buyers or suppliers depends on the scale of the bid process and the highest marginal cost. When the number of suppliers and the difference between the highest marginal cost and the buyer’s reservation price are sufficiently large, each supplier can gain a higher profit if the marginal costs are private information. On the contrary, when the highest marginal cost approaches the buyer’s reservation price, complete cost information benefits the suppliers.  相似文献

Coordinated replenishment is a supply chain policy that affects many operational performance measures, including cost, lead time, and quality. In this paper, we develop a mathematical model of a simplified supply chain in which conformance quality is one of the supplier's decision variables and both the supplier and its customer are trying to minimize expected annual cost. Our expected cost model includes the important quality costs (appraisal, prevention, internal failure, and external failure) as well as holding, set-up, and ordering costs. Our results indicate that coordination leads to a decline in total cost but that coordination does not necessarily lead to an improvement in quality. In other words, buyers who are using coordinated replenishment may be trading higher quality for lower cost.  相似文献

Companies, especially those in e-business, are increasingly offering free shipping to buyers whose order sizes exceed the free shipping quantity. In this paper, given that the supplier offers free shipping, we determine the retailer’s optimal order lot size and the optimal retail price. We explicitly incorporate the supplier’s quantity discount, and transportation cost into the model. We analytically and numerically examine the impacts of free shipping, quantity discount and transportation cost on the retailer’s optimal lot sizing and pricing decisions. We find that free shipping can benefit the supplier, the retailer, and the end customers, and can effectively encourage the retailer to order more of the good, to the extent of ordering a few times of the optimal order lot size without free shipping. The order lot size will increase and the retail price will decrease if the supplier offers proper free shipping.  相似文献

In this paper, we review the contributions to date for analyzing the newsvendor problem. Our focus is on examining the specific extensions for analyzing this problem in the context of modeling customer demand, supplier costs, and the buyer risk profile. More specifically, we analyze the impact of market price, marketing effort, and stocking quantity on customer demand; how supplier prices can serve as a coordination mechanism in a supply chain setting; integrating alternative supplier pricing policies within the newsvendor framework; and how the buyer’s risk profile moderates the newsvendor order quantity decision. For each of these areas, we summarize the current literature and develop extensions. Finally, we also propose directions for future research.  相似文献

In this paper the trade-off between strategic commitment and operational flexibility is examined as it arises in a supply chain when a supplier offers competing buyers opportunities to make early purchase commitments for a product with a short life cycle. Traditionally, the use of incentives for early purchase commitments for short life-cycle products has been justified on the basis of a supplier's production lead times or capacity constraints. An alternative explanation has been proposed by offering early purchasing opportunities, a supplier can influence the form of competition in the downstream market. Using a single period model, it has been shown that, below a threshold level of demand uncertainty, the supplier can benefit from providing adequate pricing incentives to entice downstream buyers to commit to purchase quantities before demand information is revealed. Moreover, such early purchasing opportunities can benefit the supplier as well as the buyers even in the absence of production lead times or capacity constraints.  相似文献

This paper considers a just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing system in which a single manufacturer procures raw materials from a single supplier, process them to produce finished products, and then deliver the products to a single-buyer. The customer demand rate is assumed to be linearly decreasing time-varying. In the JIT system, in order to minimize the suppliers as well as the buyers holding costs, the supply of raw materials and the delivery of finished products are made in small quantities. In this case, both the supply and the delivery may require multiple installments for a single production lot. We develop a mathematical model for this problem, propose a simple methodology for solving the model, and illustrate the effectiveness of the method with numerical examples.  相似文献

Quantity discounts provide a practical foundation for inventory coordination in supply chains. However, typical supply chain participants may encounter difficulties in implementing the coordination policy simply because (1) specified lot size adjustments may deviate from the economic lot sizes and (2) the buying firm may face amplified overstocking risks related to increased order quantities. The main objective of this study is to develop a quantity discount model that resolves the practical challenges associated with implementing quantity discount policies for supply chain coordination between a supplier and a buyer. The proposed Buyer’s Risk Adjustment (B-RA) model allows the supplier to offer discounts that capitalize on the original economic lot sizes and share the buyer’s risk of temporary overstocking under uncertain demand. The analytical results suggest that the proposed B-RA discount approach is a feasible alternative for supply chain coordination under uncertain demand conditions.  相似文献

We consider a production system in which a supplier produces semi-finished items on a make-to-stock basis for a manufacturer that will customize the items on a make-to-order basis. The proportion of total processing time undertaken by the supplier determines how suitable the semi-finished items will be to meet customer demand. The manufacturer wishes to determine the optimal point of differentiation (the proportion of processing completed by the supplier) and its optimal semi-finished goods buffer size. We use matrix geometric methods to evaluate various performance measures for this system, and then, with enumeration techniques, obtain optimal solutions. We find that delayed product differentiation is attractive when the manufacturer can balance the costs of customer order fulfillment delay with the costs associated with unsuitable items.  相似文献

Internet based marketplaces have enabled industrial buyers to locate suppliers from geographically diverse locations. This has resulted in increased variations in certain supplier parameters such as capacity and cost among the participating suppliers. However, the impact of this increased heterogeneity on the procurement practices are not well understood. In this paper we consider three supplier parameters that can affect the price the buyer pays and the number of suppliers that the buyer will select for award of contract. These attributes are capacity, production cost and demand for supplier’s capacity. We show how these parameters impact the price that a supplier quotes. We also show how the buyer will determine the optimum number of suppliers using a reverse auction mechanism when he does not have perfect knowledge of the suppliers’ parameters. Our model suggests that buyers need to adjust some of the input parameters while procuring capacity from a heterogeneous supply base. For instance, buyers need to pre-qualify more suppliers if the supply base has greater heterogeneity.  相似文献

In shipping services, the goal is to propose cyclical routes which ensure transport of required goods among the main centers of the regions. It is classified as a pickup and delivery problem with split demand and reloading. The objective is to minimize total shipping costs, or the total length of all cyclical routes. The optimum solution gives a number of vehicles going on arcs of the communication network and the amount of goods being transported on the arcs. Consequently, cyclical routes and depots are proposed for all vehicles. First, the multi-graph, in which each directed arc corresponds to exactly one vehicle, is generated. The multi-graph satisfies the condition that the number of arcs entering each node equals the number of arcs exiting the node. The heuristic method of loading goods onto a vehicle in the pickup node and to transport it to the delivery node without reloading onto another vehicle is proposed. The method is verified in the case study carried out on the DHL company.  相似文献

This paper presents a new scheme for the coordination of dynamic, uncapacitated lot-sizing problems in two-party supply chains where parties’ local data are private information and no external or central entity is involved. This coordination scheme includes the following actions: At first, the buyer generates a series of different supply proposals using an extension of her local lot-sizing problem. Then the supplier calculates his cost changes that would result from the implementation of the buyer’s proposals. Based on these information, parties can identify the best proposal generated. The scheme identifies the system-wide optimum in different settings—for instance in a two-stage supply chain where the supplier’s costs for holding a period’s demand in inventory exceed his setup costs.  相似文献

This research addresses an optimal policy for production and procurement in a supply-chain system with multiple non-competing suppliers, a manufacturer and multiple non-identical buyers. The manufacturer procures raw materials from suppliers, converts them to finished products and ships the products to each buyer at a fixed-interval of time over a finite planning horizon. The demand of finished product is given by buyers and the shipment size to each buyer is fixed. The problem is to determine the production start time, the initial and ending inventory, the cycle beginning and ending time, the number of orders of raw materials in each cycle, and the number of cycles for a finite planning horizon so as to minimize the system cost. A surrogate network representation of the problem developed to obtain an efficient, optimal solution to determine the production cycle and cycle costs with predetermined shipment schedules in the planning horizon. This research prescribes optimal policies for a multi-stage production and procurements for all shipments scheduled over the planning horizon. Numerical examples are also provided to illustrate the system.  相似文献

在需求不确定的情境下,研究由单一供应商、制造商和销售商组成的三级供应链系统的协调问题。设计了制造商—销售商采用期权契约,制造商—供应商采用回购契约的联合契约协调机制,分析了集中控制、分散控制和协调机制下供应链系统的最优决策。最后,通过数值算例说明了机制设计的有效性,并对分析结果进行验证。研究结果表明,通过制定合理的契约参数可以使供应链各成员的期望利润相比分散决策时有帕累托改进,从而实现三级供应链系统的协调。  相似文献
