We analyze an N-policy of a discrete time Geo/G/1 queue with disasters. We obtain the probability generating functions of the queue length, the sojourn time, and regeneration cycles such as the idle period and the busy period. We apply the queue to a power saving scheme in wireless sensor networks under unreliable network connections where data packets are lost by external attacks or shocks. We present various numerical experiments for application to power consumption control in wireless sensor networks. We investigate the characteristics of the optimal N-policy that minimizes power consumption and derive practical insights on the operation of the N-policy in wireless sensor networks.  相似文献

This paper discusses a discrete-time Geo/G/1 queue, in which the server operates a random threshold policy, namely 〈pN〉 policy, at the end of each service period. After all the messages are served in the queue exhaustively, the server is immediately deactivated until N messages are accumulated in the queue. If the number of messages in the queue is accumulated to N, the server is activated for services with probability p and deactivated with probability (1 − p). Using the generating functions technique, the system state evolution is analyzed. The generating functions of the system size distributions in various states are obtained. Some system characteristics of interest are derived. The long-run average cost function per unit time is analytically developed to determine the joint optimal values of p and N at a minimum cost.  相似文献

This paper examines a discrete-time Geo/G/1 queue, where the server may take at most J − 1 vacations after the essential vacation. In this system, messages arrive according to Bernoulli process and receive corresponding service immediately if the server is available upon arrival. When the server is busy or on vacation, arriving messages have to wait in the queue. After the messages in the queue are served exhaustively, the server leaves for the essential vacation. At the end of essential vacation, the server activates immediately to serve if there are messages waiting in the queue. Alternatively, the server may take another vacation with probability p or go into idle state with probability (1 − p) until the next message arrives. Such pattern continues until the number of vacations taken reaches J. This queueing system has potential applications in the packet-switched networks. By applying the generating function technique, some important performance measures are derived, which may be useful for network and software system engineers. A cost model, developed to determine the optimum values of p and J at a minimum cost, is also studied.  相似文献

The arrival of a negative customer to a queueing system causes one positive customer to be removed if any is present. Continuous-time queues with negative and positive customers have been thoroughly investigated over the last two decades. On the other hand, a discrete-time Geo/Geo/1 queue with negative and positive customers appeared only recently in the literature. We extend this Geo/Geo/1 queue to a corresponding GI/Geo/1 queue. We present both the stationary queue length distribution and the sojourn time distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a discrete-time queue of Geo/Geo/c type with geometric repeated attempts. It is known that its continuous counterpart, namely the M/M/c queue with exponential retrials, is analytically intractable due to the spatial heterogeneity of the underlying Markov chain, caused from the retrial feature. In discrete-time, the occurrence of multiple events at each slot increases the complexity of the model and raises further computational difficulties. We propose several algorithmic procedures for the efficient computation of the main performance measures of this system. More specifically, we investigate the stationary distribution of the system state, the busy period and the waiting time. Several numerical examples illustrate the analysis.  相似文献

We consider a GI/GI/1 queue with the shortest remaining processing time discipline (SRPT) and light-tailed service times. Our interest is focused on the tail behavior of the sojourn-time distribution. We obtain a general expression for its large-deviations decay rate. The value of this decay rate critically depends on whether there is mass in the endpoint of the service-time distribution or not. An auxiliary priority queue, for which we obtain some new results, plays an important role in our analysis. We apply our SRPT results to compare SRPT with FIFO from a large-deviations point of view. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary—60K25; Secondary—60F10; 90B22  相似文献

The occurrence of disasters to a queueing system causes all customers to be removed if any are present. Although there has been much research on continuous-time queues with disasters, the discrete-time Geo/Geo/1 queue with disasters has appeared in the literature only recently. We extend this Geo/Geo/1 queue to the GI/Geo/1 queue. We present the probability generating function of the stationary queue length and sojourn time for the GI/Geo/1 queue. In addition, we convert our results into the Geo/Geo/1 queue and the GI/M/1 queue.  相似文献

Discrete-time GI/Geo/1 queue with multiple working vacations   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Consider the discrete time GI/Geo/1 queue with working vacations under EAS and LAS schemes. The server takes the original work at the lower rate rather than completely stopping during the vacation period. Using the matrix-geometric solution method, we obtain the steady-state distribution of the number of customers in the system and present the stochastic decomposition property of the queue length. Furthermore, we find and verify the closed property of conditional probability for negative binomial distributions. Using such property, we obtain the specific expression for the steady-state distribution of the waiting time and explain its two conditional stochastic decomposition structures. Finally, two special models are presented.   相似文献

We study a GI/M/1 queue with an N threshold policy. In this system, the server stops attending the queue when the system becomes empty and resumes serving the queue when the number of customers reaches a threshold value N. Using the embeded Markov chain method, we obtain the stationary distributions of queue length and waiting time and prove the stochastic decomposition properties.  相似文献

We consider a discrete time single server queueing system in which arrivals are governed by the Markovian arrival process. During a service period, all customers are served exhaustively. The server goes on vacation as soon as he/she completes service and the system is empty. Termination of the vacation period is controlled by two threshold parameters N and T, i.e. the server terminates his/her vacation as soon as the number waiting reaches N or the waiting time of the leading customer reaches T units. The steady state probability vector is shown to be of matrix-geometric type. The average queue length and the probability that the server is on vacation (or idle) are obtained. We also derive the steady state distribution of the waiting time at arrivals and show that the vacation period distribution is of phase type.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a discrete-time GI/G/1 queueing model with negative arrivals. By deriving the probability generating function of actual service time of ordinary customers, we reduced the analysis to an equivalent discrete-time GI/G/1 queueing model without negative arrival, and obtained the probability generating function of buffer contents and random customer delay.  相似文献

This paper considers a discrete-time bulk-service queueing system with variable capacity, finite waiting space and independent Bernoulli arrival process: Geo/GY/1/N+B. Both the analytic and computational aspects of the distributions of the number of customers in the queue at post-departure, random and pre-arrival epochs are discussed.  相似文献

We study a discrete-time GI/Geo/1 queue with server vacations. In this queueing system, the server takes vacations when the system does not have any waiting customers at a service completion instant or a vacation completion instant. This type of discrete-time queueing model has potential applications in computer or telecommunication network systems. Using matrix-geometric method, we obtain the explicit expressions for the stationary distributions of queue length and waiting time and demonstrate the conditional stochastic decomposition property of the queue length and waiting time in this system.  相似文献

We consider finite buffer single server GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service discipline and multiple working vacations. Service times during a service period, service times during a vacation period and vacation times are exponentially distributed random variables. System size distributions at pre-arrival and arbitrary epoch with some important performance measures such as, probability of blocking, mean waiting time in the system etc. have been obtained. The model has potential application in the area of communication network, computer systems etc. where a single channel is allotted for more than one source.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the manufacturing lead time in a production system with BMAP (Batch Markovian Arrival process) input and post-operation operated under the N-policy. We use the factorization principle to derive the waiting time distribution (hence the manufacturing lead time) and the mean performance measures. A numerical example is provided.  相似文献

We consider aM X/G/1 queueing system withN-policy. The server is turned off as soon as the system empties. When the queue length reaches or exceeds a predetermined valueN (threshold), the server is turned on and begins to serve the customers. We place our emphasis on understanding the operational characteristics of the queueing system. One of our findings is that the system size is the sum of two independent random variables: one has thePGF of the stationary system size of theM X/G/1 queueing system withoutN-policy and the other one has the probability generating function j=0 N=1 j z j/ j=0 N=1 j , in which j is the probability that the system state stays atj before reaching or exceedingN during an idle period. Using this interpretation of the system size distribution, we determine the optimal thresholdN under a linear cost structure.  相似文献

In this paper, a discrete-time single-server queueing system with an infinite waiting room, referred to as theG (G)/Geo/1 model, i.e., a system with general interarrival-time distribution, general arrival bulk-size distribution and geometrical service times, is studied. A method of analysis based on integration along contours in the complex plane is presented. Using this technique, analytical expressions are obtained for the probability generating functions of the system contents at various observation epochs and of the delay and waiting time of an arbitrary customer, assuming a first-come-first-served queueing discipline, under the single restriction that the probability generating function for the interarrival-time distribution be rational. Furthermore, treating several special cases we rediscover a number of well-known results, such as Hunter's result for theG/Geo/1 model. Finally, as an illustration of the generality of the analysis, it is applied to the derivation of the waiting time and the delay of the more generalG (G)/G/1 model and the system contents of a multi-server buffer-system with independent arrivals and random output interruptions. Both authors wish to thank the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (NFWO) for support of this work.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. In this paper we deal with the main multiserver retrial queue of M/M/c type with exponential repeated attempts. This model is known to be analytically intractable due to the spatial heterogeneity of the underlying Markov chain, caused by the retrial feature. For this reason several models have been proposed for approximating its stationary distribution, that lead to satisfactory numerical implementations. This paper extends these studies by developing efficient algorithmic procedures for calculating the busy period distribution of the main approximation models of Wilkinson [Wilkinson, R.I., 1956. Theories for toll traffic engineering in the USA, The Bell System Technical Journal 35, 421–514], Falin [Falin, G.I., 1983. Calculations of probability characteristics of a multiline system with repeated calls, Moscow University Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics 1, 43–49] and Neuts and Rao [Neuts, M.F., Rao, B.M., 1990. Numerical investigation of a multiserver retrial model, Queueing Systems 7, 169–190]. Moreover, we develop stable recursive schemes for the computation of the busy period moments. The corresponding distributions for the total number of customers served during a busy period are also studied. Several numerical results illustrate the efficiency of the methods and reveal interesting facts concerning the behavior of the M/M/c retrial queue.  相似文献

It has been shown by (R.O. Al-Seedy, A.A. El-Sherbiny, S.A. El-Shehawy, S.I. Ammar, Transient solution of the M/M/c queue with balking and reneging, Comput. Math. Appl. 57 (2009) 1280–1285) that a generating function technique can be successfully applied to derive the transient solution for an M/M/c queueing system. In this paper, we further illustrate how this technique can be used to obtain the busy period density function of an M/M/1 queue with balking and reneging. Finally, numerical calculations are presented.  相似文献
