We propose a queueing network model which can be used for the integration of the mobility and teletraffic aspects that are characteristic of wireless networks. In the general case, the model is an open network of infinite server queues where customers arrive according to a non-homogeneous Poisson process. The movement of a customer in the network is described by a Markov renewal process. Moreover, customers have attributes, such as a teletraffic state, that are driven by continuous time Markov chains and, therefore, change as they move through the network. We investigate the transient and limit number of customers in disjoint sets of nodes and attributes. These turn out to be independent Poisson random variables. We also calculate the covariances of the number of customers in two sets of nodes and attributes at different time epochs. Moreover, we conclude that the arrival process per attribute to a node is the sum of independent Poisson cluster processes and derive its univariate probability generating function. In addition, the arrival process to an outside node of the network is a non-homogeneous Poisson process. We illustrate the applications of the queueing network model and the results derived in a particular wireless network.  相似文献

We address a rate control problem associated with a single server Markovian queueing system with customer abandonment in heavy traffic. The controller can choose a buffer size for the queueing system and also can dynamically control the service rate (equivalently the arrival rate) depending on the current state of the system. An infinite horizon cost minimization problem is considered here. The cost function includes a penalty for each rejected customer, a control cost related to the adjustment of the service rate and a penalty for each abandoning customer. We obtain an explicit optimal strategy for the limiting diffusion control problem (the Brownian control problem or BCP) which consists of a threshold-type optimal rejection process and a feedback-type optimal drift control. This solution is then used to construct an asymptotically optimal control policy, i.e. an optimal buffer size and an optimal service rate for the queueing system in heavy traffic. The properties of generalized regulator maps and weak convergence techniques are employed to prove the asymptotic optimality of this policy. In addition, we identify the parameter regimes where the infinite buffer size is optimal.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a two-stage tandem network. The customers waiting in these two stages share one finite buffer. By constructing a Markov process, we derive the stationary probability distribution of the system and the sojourn time distribution. Given some constraints on the minimum loss probability and the maximum waiting time, we also derive the optimal buffer size and the shared-buffer size by minimizing the total buffer costs. Numerical results show that, by adopting the buffer-sharing policy, the customer acceptance fraction and the delivery reliability are more sensitive to buffer size comparing with the buffer-allocation policy.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a discrete-time GI/G/1 queueing model with negative arrivals. By deriving the probability generating function of actual service time of ordinary customers, we reduced the analysis to an equivalent discrete-time GI/G/1 queueing model without negative arrival, and obtained the probability generating function of buffer contents and random customer delay.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the matched queueing system with a double input, M o M/PH/1, where the two inputs are two independent Poisson processes, and the service time is of PH-distribution. The L.S. transforms and the expectations of the distributions of occupation time and virtual waiting time of the type-1 customer are derived. The probability that the server is working, the mean non-idle period, and the mean busy period are also derived. The related algorithms are given with numerical results. This project is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

We consider optimal pricing for a two-station tandem queueing system with finite buffers, communication blocking, and price-sensitive customers whose arrivals form a homogeneous Poisson process. The service provider quotes prices to incoming customers using either a static or dynamic pricing scheme. There may also be a holding cost for each customer in the system. The objective is to maximize either the discounted profit over an infinite planning horizon or the long-run average profit of the provider. We show that there exists an optimal dynamic policy that exhibits a monotone structure, in which the quoted price is non-decreasing in the queue length at either station and is non-increasing if a customer moves from station 1 to 2, for both the discounted and long-run average problems under certain conditions on the holding costs. We then focus on the long-run average problem and show that the optimal static policy performs as well as the optimal dynamic policy when the buffer size at station 1 becomes large, there are no holding costs, and the arrival rate is either small or large. We learn from numerical results that for systems with small arrival rates and no holding cost, the optimal static policy produces a gain quite close to the optimal gain even when the buffer at station 1 is small. On the other hand, for systems with arrival rates that are not small, there are cases where the optimal dynamic policy performs much better than the optimal static policy.

We analyse a single-server retrial queueing system with infinite buffer, Poisson arrivals, general distribution of service time and linear retrial policy. If an arriving customer finds the server occupied, he joins with probabilityp a retrial group (called orbit) and with complementary probabilityq a priority queue in order to be served. After the customer is served completely, he will decide either to return to the priority queue for another service with probability ϑ or to leave the system forever with probability =1−ϑ, where 0≤ϑ<1. We study the ergodicity of the embedded Markov chain, its stationary distribution function and the joint generating function of the number of customers in both groups in the steady-state regime. Moreover, we obtain the generating function of system size distribution, which generalizes the well-knownPollaczek-Khinchin formula. Also we obtain a stochastic decomposition law for our queueing system and as an application we study the asymptotic behaviour under high rate of retrials. The results agree with known special cases. Finally, we give numerical examples to illustrate the effect of the parameters on several performance characteristics.  相似文献

Whereas the buffer content of batch-service queueing systems has been studied extensively, the customer delay has only occasionally been studied. The few papers concerning the customer delay share the common feature that only the moments are calculated explicitly. In addition, none of these surveys consider models including the combination of batch arrivals and a server operating under the full-batch service policy (the server waits to initiate service until he can serve at full capacity). In this paper, we aim for a complete characterisation—i.e., moments and tail probabilities - of the customer delay in a discrete-time queueing system with batch arrivals and a batch server adopting the full-batch service policy. In addition, we demonstrate that the distribution of the number of customer arrivals in an arbitrary slot has a significant impact on the moments and the tail probabilities of the customer delay.  相似文献

In this paper we deal with a single removable service station queueing system with Poisson arrivals and Erlang distribution service times. The service station can be turned on at arrival epochs or off at departure epochs. While the service station is working, it is subject to breakdowns according to a Poisson process. When the station breaks down, it requires repair at a repair facility, where the repair times follow the negative exponential distribution. Conditions for a stable queueing system, that is steady-state, are provided. The steady-state results are derived and it is shown that the probability that the service station is busy is equal to the traffic intensity. Following the construction of the total expected cost function per unit time, we determine the optimal operating policy at minimum cost.  相似文献

This paper studies dynamic routing in a parallel server queueing network with a single Poisson arrival process and two servers with exponential processing times of different rates. Each customer must be routed at the time of arrival to one of the two queues in the network. We establish that this system operating under a threshold policy can be well approximated by a one-dimensional reflected Brownian motion when the arrival rate to the network is close to the processing capacity of the two servers. As the heavy traffic limit is approached, thresholds which grow at a logarithmic rate are critical in determining the behavior of the limiting system. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the growth rate of the threshold for (i) approximation of the network by a reflected Brownian motion (ii) positive recurrence of the limiting Brownian diffusion and (iii) asymptotic optimality of the threshold policy.  相似文献

We consider a discrete-time infinite-capacity queueing system with a general uncorrelated arrival process, constant-length service times of multiple slots, multiple servers and a first-come-first-served queueing discipline. Under the assumption that the queueing system can reach a steady state, we first establish a relationship between the steady-state probability distributions of the system content and the customer delay. Next, by means of this relationship, an explicit expression for the probability generating function of the customer delay is obtained from the known generating function of the system content, derived in previous work. In addition, several characteristics of the customer delay, namely the mean value, the variance and the tail distribution of the delay, are derived through some mathematical manipulations. The analysis is illustrated by means of some numerical examples.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a single server queue with Poisson arrivals and general service distributions in which the service distributions are changed cyclically according to customer sequence number. This model extends a previous study that used cyclic exponential service times to the treatment of general service distributions. First, the stationary probability generating function and the average number of customers in the system are found. Then, a single vacation queueing system with aN-limited service policy, in which the server goes on vacation after servingN consecutive customers is analyzed as a particular case of our model. Also, to increase the flexibility of using theM/G/1 model with cyclic service times in optimization problems, an approximation approach is introduced in order to obtain the average number of customers in the system. Finally, using this approximation, the optimalN-limited service policy for a single vacation queueing system is obtained. On leave from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Iran University of Science and Technology, Narmak, Tehran 16844, Iran.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze a single removable and unreliable server in the N policy M/G/1 queueing system in which the server breaks down according to a Poisson process and the repair time obeys an arbitrary distribution. The method of maximum entropy is used to develop the approximate steady-state probability distributions of the queue length in the M/G(G)/1 queueing system, where the second and the third symbols denote service time and repair time distributions, respectively. A study of the derived approximate results, compared to the exact results for the M/M(M)/1, M/E2(E3)/1, M/H2(H3)/1 and M/D(D)/1 queueing systems, suggest that the maximum entropy principle provides a useful method for solving complex queueing systems. Based on the simulation results, we demonstrate that the N policy M/G(G)/1 queueing model is sufficiently robust to the variations of service time and repair time distributions.  相似文献

We consider a two-class processor sharing queueing system scheduled by the discriminatory processor sharing discipline. Poisson arrivals of customers and exponential amounts of service requirements are assumed. At any moment of being served, a customer can leave the system without completion of its service. In the asymptotic regime, where the ratio of the time scales of the two-class customers is infinite, we obtain the conditional sojourn time distribution of each class customers. Numerical experiments show that the time scale decomposition approach developed in this paper gives a good approximation to the conditional sojourn time distribution as well as the expectation of it.  相似文献

Summary This paper considers a finite dam in continuous time fed by inputs, with a negative exponential distribution, whose arrival times form a Poisson process; there is a continuous release at unit rate, and overflow is allowed. Various results have been obtained by appropriate limiting methods from an analogous discrete time process, for which it is possible to find some solutions directly by determinantal methods.First the stationary dam content distribution is found. The distribution of the probability of first emptiness is obtained both when overflow is, and is not allowed. This is followed by the probability the overflow before emptiness, which is then applied to determine the exact solution for an insurance risk problem with claims having a negative exponential distribution. The time-dependent content distribution is found, and the analogy with queueing theory is discussed.  相似文献

We study a queueing network with a single shared server that serves the queues in a cyclic order. External customers arrive at the queues according to independent Poisson processes. After completing service, a customer either leaves the system or is routed to another queue. This model is very generic and finds many applications in computer systems, communication networks, manufacturing systems, and robotics. Special cases of the introduced network include well-known polling models, tandem queues, systems with a waiting room, multi-stage models with parallel queues, and many others. A complicating factor of this model is that the internally rerouted customers do not arrive at the various queues according to a Poisson process, causing standard techniques to find waiting-time distributions to fail. In this paper, we develop a new method to obtain exact expressions for the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of the steady-state waiting-time distributions. This method can be applied to a wide variety of models which lacked an analysis of the waiting-time distribution until now.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider a two‐phase queueing system with server vacations and Bernoulli feedback. Customers arrive at the system according to a Poisson process and receive batch service in the first phase followed by individual services in the second phase. Each customer who completes the individual service returns to the tail of the second phase service queue with probability 1 ? σ. If the system becomes empty at the moment of the completion of the second phase services, the server takes vacations until he finds customers. This type of queueing problem can be easily found in computer and telecommunication systems. By deriving a relationship between the generating functions for the system size at various embedded epochs, we obtain the system size distribution at an arbitrary time. The exhaustive and gated cases for the batch service are considered.  相似文献

While many single station queues possess explicit forms for their equilibrium probabilities, queueing networks are more problematic. Outside of the class of product form networks (e.g., Jackson, Kelly, and BCMP networks), one must resort to bounds, simulation, asymptotic studies or approximations. By focusing on a class of two-station closed reentrant queueing networks under the last buffer first served (LBFS) policy, we show that non-product form equilibrium probabilities can be obtained. When the number of customer classes in the network is five or fewer, explicit solutions can be obtained. Otherwise, we require the roots of a characteristic polynomial and a matrix inversion that depend only on the network topology. The approach relies on two key points. First, under LBFS, the state space can be reduced to four dimensions independent of the number of buffers in the system. Second, there is a sense of spatial causality in the global balance equations that can then be exploited. To our knowledge, these two-station closed reentrant queueing networks under LBFS represent the first class of queueing networks for which explicit non-product form equilibrium probabilities can be constructed (for five customer classes or less), the generic form of the equilibrium probabilities can be deduced and matrix analytic approaches can be applied. As discussed via example, there may be other networks for which related observations can be exploited.  相似文献

We consider a closed queueing network, consisting of two FCFS single server queues in series: a queue with general service times and a queue with exponential service times. A fixed number \(N\) of customers cycle through this network. We determine the joint sojourn time distribution of a tagged customer in, first, the general queue and, then, the exponential queue. Subsequently, we indicate how the approach toward this closed system also allows us to study the joint sojourn time distribution of a tagged customer in the equivalent open two-queue system, consisting of FCFS single server queues with general and exponential service times, respectively, in the case that the input process to the first queue is a Poisson process.  相似文献
