We investigate the statistics of the numberN(R, S) of lattice pointsnZ 2, in an annular domain (R, w)=(R+w)A\RA, whereR, w>0. HereA is a fixed convex set with smooth boundary andw is chosen so that the area of (R, w) isS. The statistics comes fromR being taken as random (with a smooth density) in some interval [c 1 T,c 2,T],c 2>c 1>0. We find that in the limitT the variance and distribution of N=N(R; S)–S depend strongly on howS grows withT. There is a saturation regimeS/T, asT, in which the fluctuations in N coming from the two boundaries of are independent. Then there is a scaling regime,S/Tz, 0<z<, in which the distribution depends onz in an almost periodic way going to a Gaussian asz0. The variance in this limit approachesz for genericA, but can be larger for degenerate cases. The former behavior is what one would expect from the Poisson limit of a distribution for annuli of finite area.  相似文献

We report SR measurements of Pr2CuO4– and (Pr2–xCex)CuO4– single crystals in the temperature range 4.2K300K. Two spin reorientation phase transitions were observed, although neutron scattering experiment could not detect these phase transitions. These allow us to conclude that magnetic moments of the Cu atoms order in an antiferromagnetic noncollinear cross like structure including a hidden canting spin arrangement.  相似文献

The model of a scalar structured particle is considered, which possesses polarizability in an external electromagnetic field. The expression for the 4-dimensional current density is found. The exact solution of the equations describing a scalar particle with polarizability in a uniform external magnetic field is obtained. Up to the terms of order O(H2), the energy spectrum can be formally obtained by the substitution of the particle mass in the expression for a pointlike scalar particle: mm–H2/2, where is the magnetic polarizability of the particle. It is shown that the rms radius of a trajectory can be obtained by the substitution of the charge in the well-known formula for a structureless scalar particle: ee(1{-H2/m)1/2 (where is the electric polarizability).Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 1, pp. 91–94, January, 1991.I thank A. ZF, LF and TF SR experiments with antiferromagnetic (AF) ceramical samples La2–x Sr x CuO4–y have been performed in the temperature range 10–300 K. Zero field muon spin polarization functions obtained below the Neel temperature clearly show a nonzero initial precession phase-–0.35 rad. We propose an explanation based on existence of the dynamical magnetic fields on the muon.We thank Drs. A.G. Chistov and A.M. Inelastic electron scattering at a neon atom in the presence of an external electric field is considered. The distortion factors of the cross section M (F) are calculated for a series of 4d and 5d levels. It is shown that the distortion factor in strong fields is a nonlinear and nonmonotonic function of the field. The distortion factors and transition probabilitiesA , are compared. The correlation between the behavior ofA , and M (F) is explained by the dependence of the mean dipole moment of the Stark state on the field strength.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 1, pp. 97–110, January, 1996.  相似文献

Quite often the compatibility of the EPR correlations with the relativity theory has been questioned; it has been stated that the first in time of two correlated measurements instantaneously collapses the other subsystem; it has been suggested that a causal asymmetry is built into the Feynman propagator. However, the EPR transition amplitude, as derived from the S matrix, is Lorentz andCPT invariant; the correlation formula is symmetric in the two measurements irrespective of their time ordering, so that the link of the correlations is the Feynman zigzag, and that causality isCPT invariant at the microlevel; finally, although the Feynman propagator has theP andCT symmetries, no causal asymmetry follows from that. As for Stapp's views concerning process and becoming, and his Whiteheadean concept of an advancing front, I object that they belong to factlike macrophysics, and are refuted at the microlevel by the EPR phenomenology, which displays direct Fokker-like space-time connections. The reason for this is a radical one. The very blending of a space-time picture and of a probability calculus is a paradox. The only adequate paradigm is one denying objectivity to space-time—but this, of course, is also required by the complementary of the x and the k pictures, which only look compatible at the macrolevel. Therefore, the classical objectivity must yield in favor of intersubjectivity. Only the macroscopic preparing and measuring devices have factlike objectivity; the transition of the quantal system takes place beyond both thex and thek 4-spaces. Then, the intrinsic symmetries between retarded and advanced waves, and statistical prediction and retrodiction, entails that the future has no less (but no more) existence than the past. It is the future that is significant in creative process, the elementary forms of which should be termed precognition or psychokinesis—respectively symmetric to the factlike taboos that we can neither know into the future nor act into the past. It is gratifying that Robert Jahn, at the Engineering School of Princeton University, is conducting (after others) conclusive experiments demonstrating low level psychokinesis—a phenomenon implied by the very symmetry of the negentropy-information transition. So, what pierces the veil of maya is the (rare) occurrence of paranormal phenomena. The essential severance between act and potentia is not a spacelike advancing front, but the out of and the into factlike space-time. Finally, I do not feel that an adequate understanding of the EPR phenomenology requires going beyond the present status of relativistic quantum mechanics. Rather, I believe that the potentialities of this formalism have not yet been fully exploited.  相似文献

We consider an anharmonic crystal described by variablesS x ,x d ,S x , with one-body interaction ¦S x ¦ and nearest neighbor (n.n.) two body interaction ¦S x –S y ¦. We discuss stochastic Schrödinger operators and Jacobi matrices with wave functions, taking values in l so there are 2l Lyaponov exponents 1...l0 l+1...2l =–1. Our results include the fact that if 1=0 on a set positive measure, thenV is deterministic and one that says that {E|exactly 2j 's are zero} is the essential support of the a.c. spectrum of multiplicity 2j.Research partially supported by USNSF under grant DMS-8416049  相似文献

The local magnetic moment and hyperfine fieldB hf at Fe and V sites in hydrogenated iron and iron-vanadium were calculated using the discrete variational method. The variations in andB hf with H occupation of the octahedral (O) site were considered. It was found that when H occupies the O site neighbouring an Fe atom, both local moment and hyperfine field at this atom decrease linearly with increasing number of H atoms. The rate of decrease is larger for Fe in iron as compared to iron in vanadium. On the other hand, when H resides at an O site next neighbouring an Fe atom, whether in iron metal or in iron-vanadium, the Fe magnetic moment increases slowly, while the hyperfine field remains almost constant. The V moment in iron, which is negative (–0.83 B ), becomes less negative (–0.30 B) as H occupies the neighboring O sites, whereas slight changes occur (–0.88 B) when H is at the next neighbouring O site. The net effect of H on Fe in iron is to decrease the average magnetic moment at a rate of 1.2 B per H/Fe for low H content. On the other hand, the average Fe moment in an iron-vanadium alloy increases if H resides at O sites which are immediate neigbours of V and next neighbours of Fe. This may explain the development of a magnetic state on hydrogenation of Fe-V alloys, which is exhibited by the specific heat and susceptibility measurements. The changes in the isomer shift were found to agree with experimental trends.  相似文献

A theory containing both electric and magnetic charges is formulated using two vectors potentials,A andC . This has the aesthetic advantage of treating electric and magnetic charges both as gauge symmetries, but it has the experimental disadvantage of introducing a second massless gauge boson (the magnetic photon) which is not observed. This problem is dealt with by using the Higgs mechanism to give a mass to one of the gauge bosons while the other remains massless. This effectively hides the magnetic charge, and the symmetry associated with it, when one is at an energy scale far enough removed from the scale of the symmetry breaking. This paper is dedicated to my grandparents Herbert and Anneliese Schmidt.  相似文献

Spinor geometry
In this paper the construction of the geometry begins with the assignment of a spinor (spinor ether) and the coordinates x are constructed as a spinor product. It is shown that the corresponding space is a Friedmann space and the coordinates x are Friedmann coordinates. The system of gravitational and field equations is closed. The theory contains eight real functions which specify both the reference system and the coordinate grid. The theory admits quantization of space-time and is free of the difficulties associated with inertia and the absolute character of flat space-time.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 2, pp. 7–12, February, 1977.  相似文献

In this paper we concern ourselves with the small asymptotics of the inner products of the eigenfunctions of a Schrödinger-type operator with a coherent state. More precisely, let j and E j denote the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of a Schrödinger-type operator H with discrete spectrum. Let (x,) be a coherent state centered at the point (x, ) in phase space. We estimate as 0 the averages of the squares of the inner products ( a (x,) , j ) over an energy interval of size around a fixed energy, E. This follows from asymptotic expansions of the form for certain test function and Schwartz amplitudes a of the coherent state. We compute the leading coefficient in the expansion, which depends on whether the classical trajectory through (x, ) is periodic or not. In the periodic case the iterates of the trajectory contribute to the leading coefficient. We also discuss the case of the Laplacian on a compact Riemannian manifold.Research supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9303778  相似文献

We use the reference interaction site model (RISM) integral equation theory to study the percolation behavior of fluids composed of long molecules. We examine the roles of hard core size and of length-to-width ratio on the percolation threshold. The critical density c is a nonmonotonic function of these parameters exhibiting competition of different effects. Comparisons with Monte Carlo calculations of others are reasonably good. For critical exponents, the theory yields =2=2 for molecules of any noninfinite lengthL. WhenL is very large, the theory yields cL –2. These predictions compare favorably with observations of the conductivity for random assemblies of conductive fibers. The threshold region where asymptotic scaling holds requires the correlation length (/ c ) –v to be much larger thanL. Evidently, the range of densities in this region diminishes asL increases, requiring that density deviations from c be no larger thanL –2. Otherwise, crossover behavior will be observed.  相似文献

For automorphism groups of operator algebras we show how properties of the difference t – ' t are reflected in relations between the generators , . Indeed for a von Neumann algebraM with separable predual we show that if t – 't 0.28 for smallt, then = 0(+)°-1 where is an inner automorphism ofM and is a bounded derivation ofM. If the difference t – ' t =O(t) ast ; 0, then = + and if t – ' t 0.28 for allt then =. We prove analogous results for unitary groups on a Hilbert space andC 0,C 0 * groups on a Banach space. This paper subsumes an earlier work of the same title which appeared as a report from Z.I.F. der Universität BielefeldWith partial support of the U.S. National Science Foundation  相似文献

A slight modification of the recent Penrose and Lebowitz treatment of thermodynamic metastable states is presented. For the case of periodic boundary conditions, this modification allows the condition of metastability to be extended to all the metastable states in the van der Waals-Maxwell theory of the liquid-vapor phase transition, that is, for all states satisfyingf 0()+1/2 2>f(, 0+) andf0()+x>0 wheref(, 0+) is the (stable) Helmholtz free energy density of the generalized van der Waals-Maxwell theory andf 0() is the Helmholtz free energy density of a reference system with no long-range interaction, is a mean field-type term arising from a long-range Kac interaction, is the overall mean particle density, andx is any positive number. For the case of rigid-wall boundary conditions, a more restrictive condition is placed onx.  相似文献

For the Ising model with nearest neighbour interaction it is shown that the spin correlations A B - A B decrease exponentially asd(A, B) in a pure phase when the temperature is well belowT c. This is used to prove that the free energyF(,h) is infinitely differentiable in and has one sided derivatives inh of all orders forh=0. The bounds are also used to prove that the central limit theorem holds for several variables such as e.g. the total energy and the total magnetization of the system, the limit distribution being gaussian with variances determined by the second derivatives ofF(,h).  相似文献

The spectrum (H) of the tight binding Fibonacci Hamiltonian (H mn= m,n+1+ m+1,n + m,n v(n),v(n)= ((n–1)), 1/ is the golden number) is shown to coincide with the dynamical spectrum, the set on which an infinite subsequence of traces of transfer matrices is bounded. The point spectrum is absent for any , and (H) is a Cantor set for 4. Combining this with Casdagli's earlier result, one finds that the spectrum is singular continuous for 16.On leave from the Central Research Institute for Physics, Budapest, Hungary  相似文献
