Experimental results are presented in favor of the existence of fast and slow modes of the propagation of the combustion front in diluted heterogeneous mixtures of reactive particles. A theoretical combustion model is proposed to explain the existence of these modes. The transition from the fast to the slow mode, which occurs in a narrow range of the degree of dilution of the mixture by inert powder, is associated with the break of a percolation cluster formed by reagent particles that are in direct contact with each other. After such a break of the cluster, the thermal energy of combusting particles is still insufficient to maintain the combustion wave. A sharp decrease in the front velocity in this case is associated with the necessity of heating inert regions inevitably appearing in its path.  相似文献

Even the most regular stick-slip frictional sliding is always stochastic, with irregularity in both the intervals between slip events and the sizes of the associated stress drops. Applying small-amplitude oscillations to the shear force, we show, experimentally and theoretically, that the stick-slip periods synchronize. We further show that this phase locking is related to the inhibition of slow rupture modes which forces a transition to fast rupture, providing a possible mechanism for observed remote triggering of earthquakes. Such manipulation of collective modes may be generally relevant to extended nonlinear systems driven near to criticality.  相似文献

It is a mysterious fact that protein systems often show an extremely slow dynamics of their molecular motions with time scales much longer than nanosecond order, although their characteristic frequencies obtained by the normal mode analysis fall in much shorter temporal regions. This Letter provides a heuristic account for why and how such extremely slow modes of protein motions naturally emerge from fast molecular modes on the basis of an idea of entropy invariance in the principal component analysis.  相似文献

We present the basic formulas for a unified treatment of the correlation functions of the hydrodynamic variables in a fluid between two horizontal plates which is exposed to a stationary heat flux in the presence of a gravity field (Rayleigh-Bénard system). Our analysis is based on fluctuating hydrodynamics. In this paper (I) we show that in the nonequilibrium stationary state the hydrodynamic fluctuations evolve on slow and fast time scales that are widely separated. A time scale perturbation theory is used to diagonalize the hydrodynamic operator partially. This enables us to derive the eigenvalue equations for the nonequilibrium hydrodynamic modes. Therein we take into account the variation of the macroscopic quantities with position. The correlation functions are formally expressed in terms of the nonequilibrium modes. In paper II the slow hydrodynamic modes (viscous and viscoheat modes) will be determined explicitly for ideal heat-conducting plates with stick boundary conditions and used to compute the slow part of the correlation functions; in paper III the fast hydrodynamic modes (sound modes) will be explicitly determined for stick boundary conditions and used to compute the fast part of the correlation functions. In these papers we will also compute the shape and intensity of the lines measured in light scattering experiments.  相似文献

The existence and propagation of fast and slow magnetoacoustic surface waves (MASW) is investigated in our work by taking a theoretical model of a static plasma slab as the middle layer with a moving plasma region at the top and neutral gas medium as the bottom layer. Applying linear MHD, the dispersion relation is obtained and the propagation of magnetoacoustic surface waves, in the compressional limit for steady flow and for different values of dimensionless wave numbers, is analyzed. Steady flow of plasma along a structured atmosphere may cause enhancement of existing surface modes, disappearance of some modes and generation of new surface wave modes. The possible regions for the propagation of fast and slow surface and body waves for different mass density ratios and magnetic field ratios and with a small flow velocity are studied. Our discussion may help in analyzing more complicated cases.  相似文献

在雷达、通信等工程应用中,发射信号时间有限,需要快速混沌同步. 而传统同步算法收敛速度较慢. 针对该问题,文章给出了一种快速混沌同步算法. 根据Taylor展开式,设计非线性控制变量,使得误差方程控制矩阵满足同步判定条件,进一步优选控制矩阵,仅需一步运算,便可快速同步. 此外,考虑到实际工程中往往只发射一个状态变量,文章以典型的连续Duffing系统和离散logistic系统为例,设计了单一变量驱动的快速同步. 仿真结果表明,与常见的单一耦合和OPCL(open-plus-closed-loop)同步相比,此算法收敛速度快,抗噪声能力强,具有更强的实际工程意义. 关键词: 混沌 快速同步 抗噪声  相似文献

We analyze the effect of synchronization in networks of chemically coupled multi-time-scale (spiking-bursting) neurons on the process of information transmission within the network. Although, synchronization occurs first in the slow time-scale (burst) and then in the fast time-scale (spike), we show that information can be transmitted with low probability of errors in both time scales when the bursts become synchronized. Furthermore, we show that for networks of non-identical multi-time-scales neurons, complete synchronization is no longer possible, but instead burst phase synchronization. Our analysis shows that clusters of burst phase synchronized neurons are very likely to appear in a network for parameters far smaller than the ones for which the onset of burst phase synchronization in the whole network takes place.  相似文献

We study the dependence of synchronization transitions in scale-free networks of bursting neurons with hybrid synapses on the information transmission delay and the probability of inhibitory synapses. It is shown that, irrespective of the probability of inhibitory synapses, the delay always plays a subtle role during synchronization transition of the scale-free neuronal networks. In particular, regions of irregular and regular propagating excitatory fronts appear intermittently as the delay increases. These delay-induced synchronization transitions are manifested as well-expressed minima in the measure for spatiotemporal synchrony. In addition, it is found that, for smaller and larger probability of inhibitory synapses, intermittent synchronization transition is relatively profound, while for the moderate probability of inhibitory synapses, synchronization transition seems less profound. More interestingly, it is found that as the probability of inhibitory synapses is large, regions of synchronization are upscattering.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of the study of the sequences of bifurcation leading to the synchronization and amplitude death in a system of two dissipatively coupled self-sustained oscillators with inertial nonlinearity. Two types of synchronizations tongues have been identified. In one of them phase locking regions exist where the synchronization is achieved by the saddle-node bifurcation and regions where the transition to synchronization leads through Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. In the second type of the tongues there are only phase locking regions. It has been shown that for a weak non-identity of the system parameters, the first type tongues merge together. The transition between the synchronization tongues can occur without bifurcations, i.e., transition between the synchronized regimes with different periods of oscillations can occur gradually.  相似文献

The cutoff characteristics of dielectric-filled circular holes embedded in a dispersive plasmonic medium are investigated. Since two distinctive operating modes, surface plasmon polariton and circular waveguide modes, can exist in the slow and fast wave regions, respectively, the cutoff characteristics for each are separately investigated for linear and radial polarizations of the guided fields. As a result, the cutoff wavelengths for the linear and radial polarizations with very small subwavelength hole radii are found to be limited by the plasma resonance wavelength and plasma wavelength, which in turn are dependent and independent, respectively, of the dielectric constant of the dielectric filler material.  相似文献

We predict and confirm experimentally the regime of complete synchronization between lateral modes in a quantum cascade laser, when frequency combs belonging to different lateral modes merge into a single comb. The synchronization occurs through the transition from multistability to a single stable state and is accompanied by phase locking and beam steering effects.  相似文献

We present a model for compressible sub-Alfvénic isothermal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in low- beta plasmas and numerically test it. We separate MHD fluctuations into three distinct families: Alfvén, slow, and fast modes. We find that production of slow and fast modes by Alfvénic turbulence is suppressed. As a result, Alfvén modes in compressible regime exhibit scalings and anisotropy similar to those in incompressible regime. Slow modes passively mimic Alfvén modes. However, fast modes show isotropy and a scaling similar to acoustic turbulence.  相似文献

In an effort to understand the glass transition, the dynamics of a nonrandomly frustrated spin model has been analyzed. The phenomenology of the spin model is similar to that of a supercooled liquid undergoing the glass transition. The slow dynamics can be associated with the presence of extended stringlike structures which demarcate regions of fast spin flips. An entropy-vanishing transition, with the string density as the order parameter, is related to the observed glass transition in the spin model.  相似文献

基于自旋反转模型(SFM),对光电负反馈下单向耦合注入垂直腔表面发射激光器(VCSEL)的混沌同步特性进行了数值仿真和理论分析.研究结果表明:随着反馈强度的增加,激光器输出功率呈现两个不同的混沌区域.在单一偏振模区域,能实现很好的同步性,但接近两模共存时,同步质量急剧下降;在两模共存区域,偏振模的连续性差,同步质量不理想.两模共存时的同步质量比单一偏振模差的这一特性,与已报道的基于光反馈的情景相反.产生这一特殊现象的原因是光电负反馈诱发了偏振模竞争效应.此外,还发现内部参数的变化对两个混沌区域的选取有较大 关键词: 线性偏振模 光电负反馈 垂直腔表面发射激光器(VCSEL) 混沌同步  相似文献

Modelling stochastic systems has many important applications. Normal form coordinate transforms are a powerful way to untangle interesting long term macroscale dynamics from insignificant detailed microscale dynamics. We explore such coordinate transforms of stochastic differential systems when the dynamics have both slow modes and quickly decaying modes. The thrust is to derive normal forms useful for macroscopic modelling of complex stochastic microscopic systems. Thus we not only must reduce the dimensionality of the dynamics, but also endeavour to separate all slow processes from all fast time processes, both deterministic and stochastic. Quadratic stochastic effects in the fast modes contribute to the drift of the important slow modes. Some examples demonstrate that the coordinate transform may be only locally valid or may be globally valid depending upon the dynamical system. The results will help us accurately model, interpret and simulate multiscale stochastic systems.  相似文献

According to the traditional view of synchronization, a weak periodic input is able to lock a nonlinear oscillator at a frequency close to that of the input (1:1 zone). If the forcing increases, it is possible to achieve synchronization at subharmonic bands also. Using a competitive dynamical system we show the inverse phenomenon: with a weak signal the 1:1 zone is narrow, but the synchronization of ultrasubharmonics is dominant. In the system's phase space, there exists a heteroclinic contour in the autonomous regime, which is the image of sequential dynamics. Under the action of a weak periodic forcing, in the vicinity of the contour a stable limit cycle with long period appears. This results in the locking of very low-frequency oscillations with the finite frequency of the forcing. We hypothesize that this phenomenon can be the origin for the synchronization of slow and fast brain rhythms.  相似文献

In this paper we describe the transition to phase synchronization for systems of coupled nonlinear oscillators that individually follow the Feigenbaum route to chaos. A nested structure of phase synchronized regions of different attractor families is observed. With this structure, the transition to nonsynchronous behavior is determined by the loss of stability for the most stable synchronous mode. It is shown that the appearance of hyperchaos and the transition from lag synchronization to phase synchronization are related to the merging of chaotic attractors from different families. In a calculation of the regions in which the modes of a gas laser are synchronized during modulation of the dielectric constant of the laser medium, two synchronization regions are found. The synchronization band in one of them is much higher than that in the other. The calculated results are confirmed experimentally, and it is shown that when the modes are synchronized the fluctuations in the radiation intensity are 20–30 dB below their level in the absence of synchronization.Translated from Izvestiya VUZ.
