The Loos theory of globally symmetric manifolds as manifolds with “symmetric” multiplication is applied to the four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian spaces of general relativity. It is shown that the classification of symmetric universes is reduced to two steps: the classification of Lie triple systems on Minkowski space which gives the possible curvature tensors and the construction of all covering spaces with the same local curvature tensors. The first step is already solved by Lister. The Loos theory can beused to construct some solutions of the second step. It turns out that the Ozsváth-Schücking universe is a special case of a certain class of symmetric spaces which can be characterized topologically. Explicit results are given for the two de-Sitter universes which are simplesymmetric spaces.  相似文献

We study spectral action for Riemannian manifolds with boundary, and then generalize this to noncommutative spaces which are products of a Riemannian manifold times a finite space. We determine the boundary conditions consistent with the hermiticity of the Dirac operator. We then define spectral triples of noncommutative spaces with boundary. In particular we evaluate the spectral action corresponding to the noncommutative space of the standard model and show that the Einstein–Hilbert action gets modified by the addition of the extrinsic curvature terms with the right sign and coefficient necessary for consistency of the Hamiltonian. We also include effects due to the addition of a dilaton field.  相似文献

Embeddings into higher dimensions are very important in the study of higher-dimensional theories of our Universe and in high-energy physics. Theorems which have been developed recently guarantee the existence of embeddings of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds into Einstein spaces and more general pseudo-Riemannian spaces. These results provide a technique that can be used to determine solutions for such embeddings. Here we consider local isometric embeddings of four-dimensional spherically symmetric spacetimes into five-dimensional Einstein manifolds. Difficulties in solving the five-dimensional equations for given four-dimensional spaces motivate us to investigate embedded spaces that admit bulks of a specific type. We show that the general Schwarzschild–de Sitter spacetime and Einstein Universe are the only spherically symmetric spacetimes that can be embedded into an Einstein space of a particular form, and we discuss their five-dimensional solutions.  相似文献

We study the isospectral deformations of the Eguchi-Hanson spaces along a torus isometric action in the noncompact noncommutative geometry. We concentrate on locality, smoothness and summability conditions of the nonunital spectral triples, and relate them to the geometric conditions to be noncommutative spin manifolds Supported by the Dorothy Hodgkin Scholarship.  相似文献

We analyze in detail projective modules over two-dimensional noncommutative tori and complex structures on these modules. We concentrate our attention on properties of holomorphic vectors in these modules; the theory of these vectors generalizes the theory of theta-functions. The paper is self-contained; it can be used also as an introduction to the theory of noncommutative spaces with simplest space of this kind thoroughly analyzed as a basic example.  相似文献

We classify and construct all real spectral triples over noncommutative Bieberbach manifolds, which are restrictions of irreducible, real, equivariant spectral triples over the noncommutative three-torus. We show that, in the classical case, the constructed geometries correspond exactly to spin structures over Bieberbach manifolds and the Dirac operators constructed for a flat metric.  相似文献

Noncommutative geometry is based on an idea that an associative algebra can be regarded as “an algebra of functions on a noncommutative space”. The major contribution to noncommutative geometry was made by A. Connes, who, in particular, analyzed Yang–Mills theories on noncommutative spaces, using important notions that were introduced in his papers (connection, Chern character, etc). It was found recently that Yang–Mills theories on noncommutative spaces appear naturally in string/M-theory; the notions and results of noncommutative geometry were applied very successfully to the problems of physics.

In this paper we give a mostly self-contained review of some aspects of M(atrix) theory, of Connes’ noncommutative geometry and of applications of noncommutative geometry to M(atrix) theory. The topics include introduction to BFSS and IKKT matrix models, compactifications on noncommutative tori, a review of basic notions of noncommutative geometry with a detailed discussion of noncommutative tori, Morita equivalence and -duality, an elementary discussion of noncommutative orbifolds, noncommutative solitons and instantons. The review is primarily intended for physicists who would like to learn some basic techniques of noncommutative geometry and how they can be applied in string theory and to mathematicians who would like to learn about some new problems arising in theoretical physics.

The second part of the review (Sections 10–12) devoted to solitons and instantons on noncommutative Euclidean space is almost independent of the first part.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of harmonic analysis on quantum tori. We consider several summation methods on these tori, including the square Fejér means, square and circular Poisson means, and Bochner-Riesz means. We first establish the maximal inequalities for these means, then obtain the corresponding pointwise convergence theorems. In particular, we prove the noncommutative analogue of the classical Stein theorem on Bochner-Riesz means. The second part of the paper deals with Fourier multipliers on quantum tori. We prove that the completely bounded L p Fourier multipliers on a quantum torus are exactly those on the classical torus of the same dimension. Finally, we present the Littlewood-Paley theory associated with the circular Poisson semigroup on quantum tori. We show that the Hardy spaces in this setting possess the usual properties of Hardy spaces, as one can expect. These include the quantum torus analogue of Fefferman’s H1-BMO duality theorem and interpolation theorems. Our analysis is based on the recent developments of noncommutative martingale/ergodic inequalities and Littlewood-Paley-Stein theory.  相似文献

We derive supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics from a noncommutative manifold, using the spectral action principle of Chamseddine and Connes. After a review of the Einstein?CYang?CMills system in noncommutative geometry, we establish in full detail that it possesses supersymmetry. This noncommutative model is then extended to give a theory of quarks, squarks, gluons and gluinos by constructing a suitable noncommutative spin manifold (i.e. a spectral triple). The particles are found at their natural place in a spectral triple: the quarks and gluinos as fermions in the Hilbert space, the gluons and squarks as the (bosonic) inner fluctuations of a (generalized) Dirac operator by the algebra of matrix-valued functions on a manifold. The spectral action principle applied to this spectral triple gives the Lagrangian of supersymmetric QCD, including supersymmetry breaking (negative) mass terms for the squarks. We find that these results are in good agreement with the physics literature.  相似文献

We study the Connes distance of quantum states of two-dimensional (2D) harmonic oscillators in phase space. Using the Hilbert-Schmidt operatorial formulation, we construct a boson Fock space and a quantum Hilbert space, and obtain the Dirac operator and a spectral triple corresponding to a four-dimensional (4D) quantum phase space. Based on the ball condition, we obtain some constraint relations about the optimal elements. We construct the corresponding optimal elements and then derive the Connes distance between two arbitrary Fock states of 2D quantum harmonic oscillators. We prove that these two-dimensional distances satisfy the Pythagoras theorem. These results are significant for the study of geometric structures of noncommutative spaces, and it can also help us to study the physical properties of quantum systems in some kinds of noncommutative spaces.  相似文献

We suggest to compactify the universal covering of the moduli space of complex structures by noncommutative spaces. The latter are described by certain categories of sheaves with connections which are flat along foliations. In the case of Abelian varieties, this approach gives quantum tori as a noncommutative boundary of the moduli space. Relations to mirror symmetry, modular forms and deformation theory are discussed.  相似文献

We consider noncommutative geometries obtained from a triangular Drinfeld twist. This allows us to construct and study a wide class of noncommutative manifolds and their deformed Lie algebras of infinitesimal diffeomorphisms. Principles of symmetry can be implemented in this way. Two examples are considered: (a) the general covariance in noncommutative spacetime, which leads to a noncommutative theory of gravity, and b) symplectomorphims of the algebra of observables associated with noncommutative configuration spaces, which leads to a geometric formulation of quantization on noncommutative spacetime (i.e., we establish a noncommutative correspondence principle from ⋆-Poisson brackets to ⋆-commutators).  相似文献

We introduce a notion of Q-algebra that can be considered as a generalization of the notion of Q-manifold (a supermanifold equipped with an odd vector field obeying {Q,Q} =0). We develop the theory of connections on modules over Q-algebras and prove a general duality theorem for gauge theories on such modules. This theorem contains as a simplest case SO(d,d, Z)-duality of gauge theories on noncommutative tori.  相似文献

Quantum Isometry Groups: Examples and Computations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this follow-up of [4], where the quantum isometry group of a noncommutative manifold has been defined, we explicitly compute such quantum groups for a number of classical as well as noncommutative manifolds including the spheres and the tori. It is also proved that the quantum isometry group of an isospectral deformation of a (classical or noncommutative) manifold is a suitable deformation of the quantum isometry group of the original (undeformed) manifold. Following Lett. Math. Phys. 50 (1999) 309, we introduce a notion of Q-algebra that can be considered as a generalization of the notion of Q-manifold (a supermanifold equipped with an odd vector field obeying {Q,Q}=0). We develop the theory of connections on modules over Q-algebras and prove a general duality theorem for gauge theories on such modules. This theorem containing as a simplest case SO(d,d,Z)-duality of gauge theories on noncommutative tori can be applied also in more complicated situations. We show that Q-algebras appear naturally in Fedosov construction of formal deformation of commutative algebras of functions and that similar Q-algebras can be constructed also in the case when the deformation parameter is not formal.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a version of Ricci flow for noncommutative two-tori, based on a spectral formulation in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenfunction of the Laplacian and recent results on the Gauss?CBonnet theorem for noncommutative tori.  相似文献

We study spectral triples over noncommutative principal U(1) bundles. Basing on the classical situation and the abstract algebraic approach, we propose an operatorial definition for a connection and compatibility between the connection and the Dirac operator on the total space and on the base space of the bundle. We analyze in details the example of the noncommutative three-torus viewed as a U(1) bundle over the noncommutative two-torus and find all connections compatible with an admissible Dirac operator. Conversely, we find a family of new Dirac operators on the noncommutative tori, which arise from the base-space Dirac operator and a suitable connection.  相似文献
