Properties of coefficients of the Slevinsky-Safouhi formula are derived. These properties are: matrix and orthogonality properties; the characterization of a zero array; generating functions; asymptotics; and, recurrence relations for computing a sum as efficiently as possible. Stephen Yablo has recently argued for a novel solution to the mental causation problem: the mental is related to the physical as determinables are related to determinates; determinables are not causal rivals with their determinates; so the mental and the physical are not causal rivals. Despite its attractions the suggestion seems hard to accept. In this paper I develop the idea that mental properties and physical properties are not causal rivals. Start with property dualism, supervenience, multiple realizability, and the claim that no more than one supervenience base for a mental property can be had by a single instance of the mental property. Then a probabilistic account of causation will be unable to certify either mental properties or physical properties as causal factors for effect types. I suggest that this shows that we should not count mental properties as causal rivals with physical properties.  相似文献

Numerical semigroup rings are investigated from the relative viewpoint. It is known that algebraic properties such as singularities of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of a flat numerical semigroup algebra. In this paper, we show that arithmetic and set-theoretic properties of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of an equi-gcd numerical semigroup algebra.

We model the migration of cancer cells that have broken away from a tumor and are circulating in the bloodstream. Using the immersed boundary method and culling from literature the material properties of cancer cells, we simulate how cells deform as a function of the flow properties of the bloodstream as well as the adhesive properties between the cancer cells and the endothelial cells of the bloodstream. A smooth functioning system with some stability properties may break down abruptly due to unexpected disturbances and the entire mechanism may collapse. The system, in general, is made operable in a phased manner and after a finite time may again run smoothly, with some other stability properties. High-resolution measurements of mechanical properties are of immense importance in the design of new composite materials. Measuring the intrinsic properties of each phase separately in multiphase composites gives information on the spatial heterogeneity of their local properties and serves as a guide to process engineering and to the design of advanced materials. In this study, the nanoindentation, X-ray analysis, and microstructural SEM investigations have been used to reveal the properties and structural features of ceramic-metal composites — chromium-carbide-based cermets. The semiellipse method for the account of pileups has been applied to this multiphase material to determine the hardness and elastic modulus of the constituent phases. After reconsideration of the contact area, the properties of the phases showed a good agreement with published data. Finally, the measured local elastic properties were used as inputs for modeling the effective elastic response of these materials, and a very good agreement with experimental results was found.  相似文献

All theoretical premium principles, which use a utility function (such as exponential principle, mean value principle, zero utility principle, Swiss premium calculation principle, Orlicz principle, Esscher principle) are analyzed in the light of practical properties such as homogeneity (as usual for quota shares) and sub-additivity. It is proved that a theoretical premium principle, which fulfills only very weakened forms of both practical properties, reduces necessarily to the net premium principle. This article presents an evaluation study of residential properties carried out together with real estate agents in the city of Volta Redonda, Brazil. The study aimed to define a reference value for the rents of these properties using the TODIM method of Multicriteria Decision Aiding. By applying this method to the ordering of properties with different characteristics, a ranking of all the properties was obtained and, as a result of this, diverse ranges of rental values for the properties under analysis. The study was complemented by an analysis of the sensitivity of the numerical results obtained.  相似文献

In this paper various properties of global and local changes of variables as well as properties of canonical transforms are investigated on modulation and Wiener amalgam spaces. We establish several relations among localisations of such spaces and, as a consequence, we obtain several versions of local and global Beurling–Helson type theorems. We also establish a number of positive results such as local boundedness of canonical transforms on modulation spaces, properties of homogeneous changes of variables, and local continuity of Fourier integral operators on ${\mathscr F}L^q$. Finally, counterparts of these results are discussed for spaces on the torus.  相似文献

We extract some properties of Mahlo’s operation and show that some other very natural operations share these properties. The weakly compact sets form a similar hierarchy as the stationary sets. Conditions are considered for fulfilment of various properties of homomorphisms of ordinary groups as well as properties specific to systems with a fuzzy operation. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) blends with polyamide 6 (PA6) in various ratios were prepared in a corotating twin-screw extruder, where PTFE acted as a polymer matrix and PA6 as a disperse phase, and the morphology and mechanical properties of the blends were investigated by using SEM. With increasing content of PA6 in the blends, their flexural properties improved. The interfacial adhesion promoted the creation of an interphase between the PTFE and PA6 and led to improved mechanical properties of the material. This article aims to provide a method for approximately predetermining convergence properties of the Gibbs sampler. This is to be done by first finding an approximate rate of convergence for a normal approximation of the target distribution. The rates of convergence for different implementation strategies of the Gibbs sampler are compared to find the best one. In general, the limiting convergence properties of the Gibbs sampler on a sequence of target distributions (approaching a limit) are not the same as the convergence properties of the Gibbs sampler on the limiting target distribution. Theoretical results are given in this article to justify that under conditions, the convergence properties of the Gibbs sampler can be approximated as well. The issues of preserving dynamic properties when passing from a system of differential equations to another system obtained by a change of variables, as well as the issues of preserving the properties in the opposite direction, are considered. The potential of the reduction method, which was proposed earlier, in resolving these questions are demonstrated by the examples of such properties as stability, attraction, and dissipativity. Similar issues are investigated for the case when the second system is obtained in a way characteristic for the comparison method with vector Lyapunov functions. The application of one of the obtained dissipativity criteria to analyzing the nonlinear dynamics of a group of moving objects is considered.  相似文献
