Complex extreme points and complex convexity in Orlicz-Bochner function spaces

It is well known that extreme points which are connected with strict convexity of the whole spaces, are the most basic and important geometric points in geometric theory of Banach spaces. In this paper, criteria for complex extreme points, complex strict convexity and complex uniform convexity in Orlicz-Bochner function spaces are given.     

Random strict convexity and random uniform convexity in random normed modules

Based on the analysis of stratification structure on random normed modules, we first present random strict convexity and random uniform convexity in random normed modules. Then, we establish their respective relations to classical strict and uniform convexity: in the process some known important results concerning strict convexity and uniform convexity of Lebesgue-Bochner function spaces can be obtained as a special case of our results. Further, we also give their important applications to the theory of random conjugate spaces as well as best approximation. Finally, we conclude this paper with some remarks showing that the study of geometry of random normed modules will also motivate the further study of geometry of probabilistic normed spaces.

Locally uniform convexity in Musielak-Orlicz function spaces of Bochner type endowed with the Luxemburg norm

Criteria for locally uniform convexity of Musielak-Orlicz function spaces of Bochner type equipped with the Luxemburg norm are given. We also prove that, in Musielak-Orlicz function spaces generated by locally uniformly convex Banach space, locally uniform convexity and strict convexity are equivalent.     

近严格凸与最佳逼近

本文研究近严格凸与最佳逼近的关系．证明了Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间Ｘ是近严格凸的当且仅当Ｘ的每个子空间是紧－半－切比晓夫空间．     

Uniform convexity of Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces and applications

This paper deals with uniform convexity of Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces and its applications to variational problems. Some sufficient conditions and examples for uniform convexity of Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces are given. Some special properties relative to the uniformly convex modular for uniformly convex Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces are presented. As an application of these abstract results, the local minimizers and the mountain pass type critical point of an integral functional with more complicated growth than the p(x)-growth are studied.     

Best Approximation on Convex Sets in Metric Linear Spaces

In this paper the concepts of strictly convex and uniformly convex normed linear spaces are extended to metric linear spaces. A relationship between strict convexity and uniform convexity is established. Some existence and uniqueness theorems on best approximation in metric linear spaces under different conditions are proved.

本文首先通过暴露集和暴露泛函的概念引入了闭凸集的紧－严格凸、紧－强凸、紧－一致凸及紧－非常凸等概念。并用对偶映射给出了Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间的两种新光滑性—紧－一致光滑与紧－非常光滑。然后特别研究了Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间的紧－非常凸与紧－非常光滑。此外还得到关于对偶映射的两个新结果。     

一致凸度量线性空间的自反性及其应用

为研究度量线性空间中凸集的逼近性质，Ｇ．Ｃ．Ａｈｕｊａ等引起了度量线性空间的严格凸性及一致凸性的定义。本文证明了完备的一致凸的度量线性空间是自反的。同时，作为应用，研究了最佳联合逼近元的存在性与唯一性问题。

In this paper, we give several new characterizations of 2-inner product spaces and strict convexity for linear 2-normed spaces in terms of orthogonalites and 2-semi-inner product spaces.     

Infinite Dimensional Geometric Properties of Real Interpolation Spaces

Estimates for the moduli of noncompact convexity of l_p-sums and real interpolation spaces for finite families of spaces are given. It is proved that such an interpolation preserves nearly uniform convexity and property (β).     

Strict convexity of sequence Orlicz-Musielak spaces with Orlicz norm

H. Milnes gave in (Pacific J. Math. 18 (1957), 1451–1483) a criterion for strict convexity of Orlicz spaces with respect to the so called Orlicz norm, in the case of nonatomic measure and a usual Young function. Here there are presented necessary and sufficient conditions for strict convexity of Orlicz-Musielak spaces (J. Musielak and W. Orlicz, Studia Math. 18 (1957), 49–65) with Orlicz norm in the case of purely atomic measure. For sequence Orlicz-Musielak spaces with Luxemburg norm, such a criterion is given in (A. Kami ska, Bull. Acad. Polon. Sci. Sér. Sci. Math. Astronom. Phys. 29 (1981), 137–144).     

A basic strict separation theorem in random locally convex modules

The central idea of this paper is to make full use of the recently developed theory of random conjugate spaces to establish a basic strict separation theorem that is universally suitable in an arbitrary random locally convex module. A series of interesting corollaries of the basic theorem are also included.     

凸性与度量投影的连续性

本文研究近强凸、近非常凸Banach空间中度量投影的连续性。获得如下结果：若A是近强凸（近非常凸）空间中的逼近凸集,则度量投影PA是范-范上半连续的（范-弱上半连续的）。此外,我们还利用度量投影的连续性给出Banach空间为近强凸、近非常凸的一些充分必要条件。     

Some geometric properties of integral modules

Day's characterization of those spaces 1^p(X_i) which are uniformly convex, in terms of the moduli of convexity of the X_i, is generalized for arbitrary integral modules on measure spaces (K,m) and simplified when m is finite. For this latter purpose a lemma on the moduli of convexity and of smoothness is proved which incidentally gives a further necessary condition for the existence of integral modules in given direct integrals. Further the notions of strict convexity and smoothness of an integral module are related to those of its components.     

A note on geometrical properties of Banach spaces using ψ-direct sums

Let X be a Banach space and ψ a continuous convex function on [0,1] satisfying certain conditions. Let Xψ_⊕X be the ψ-direct sum of X. In this note, we characterize the strict convexity, uniform convexity and uniformly non-squareness of Banach spaces using ψ-direct sums, which extends the well-known characterization of these spaces.

Some Remarks on Orlicz-Lorentz Spaces

Spaces of Lorentz type called Orlicz-Lorentz spaces are studied. There are given necessary and sufficient conditions for the spaces to be order continuous, separable, KB-spaces and to contain isometric or isomorphic copy of l∞ or c₀. Moreover a criterion for strict convexity of these spaces is found.     

Counterexamples to results of M.M. Rao

Summary Orlicz spaces and Prediction Operators in these spaces have been investigated by M.M. Rao in a number of well known papers. Since these papers are widely recognized as pioneering work in this field, it seems worth while to point out that some of his main results and many of his proofs are false. In particular M.M. Rao's result on strict convexity of Orlicz spaces and his proofs of convergence theorems for prediction sequences are false.     

EXISTENCE OF A NON-STRICT MOPRPHISM OF QUOTIENT BANACH SPACES
