The electrocatalyzed oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER, respectively) are the core components of many energy conversion systems, including water splitting, fuel cells, and metal–air batteries. Rational design of highly efficient non‐noble materials as bifunctional ORR/OER electrocatalysts is of great importance for large‐scale practical applications. A new strongly coupled hybrid material is presented, which comprises CoOx nanoparticles rich in oxygen vacancies grown on B,N‐decorated graphene (CoOx NPs/BNG) and operates as an efficient bifunctional OER/ORR electrocatalyst. Advanced spectroscopic techniques were used to confirm formation of abundant oxygen vacancies and strong Co−N−C bridging bonds within the CoOx NPs/BNG hybrid. Surprisingly, the CoOx NPs/BNG hybrid electrocatalyst is highly efficient for the OER with a low overpotential and Tafel slope, and is active in the ORR with a positive half‐wave potential and high limiting current density in alkaline medium.  相似文献

For rechargeable metal–air batteries, which are a promising energy storage device for renewable and sustainable energy technologies, the development of cost-effective electrocatalysts with effective bifunctional activity for both oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been a challenging task. To realize highly effective ORR and OER electrocatalysts, we present a hybrid catalyst, Co3O4-infiltrated La0.5Sr0.5MnO3-δ (LSM@Co3O4), synthesized using an electrospray and infiltration technique. This study expands the scope of the infiltration technique by depositing ~18 nm nanoparticles on unprecedented ~70 nm nano-scaffolds. The hybrid LSM@Co3O4 catalyst exhibits high catalytic activities for both ORR and OER (~7 times, ~1.5 times, and ~1.6 times higher than LSM, Co3O4, and IrO2, respectively) in terms of onset potential and limiting current density. Moreover, with the LSM@Co3O4, the number of electrons transferred reaches four, indicating that the catalyst is effective in the reduction reaction of O2 via a direct four-electron pathway. The study demonstrates that hybrid catalysts are a promising approach for oxygen electrocatalysts for renewable and sustainable energy devices.  相似文献

Oxygen reduction and water oxidation are two key processes in fuel cell applications. The oxidation of water to dioxygen is a 4 H+/4 e? process, while oxygen can be fully reduced to water by a 4 e?/4 H+ process or partially reduced by fewer electrons to reactive oxygen species such as H2O2 and O2?. We demonstrate that a novel manganese corrole complex behaves as a bifunctional catalyst for both the electrocatalytic generation of dioxygen as well as the reduction of dioxygen in aqueous media. Furthermore, our combined kinetic, spectroscopic, and electrochemical study of manganese corroles adsorbed on different electrode materials (down to a submolecular level) reveals mechanistic details of the oxygen evolution and reduction processes.  相似文献

Cost‐effective electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are critical to energy conversion and storage processes. A novel strategy is used to synthesize a non‐noble‐metal‐based electrocatalyst of the OER by finely combining layered FeNi double hydroxide that is catalytically active and electric conducting graphene sheets, taking advantage of the electrostatic attraction between the two positively charged nanosheets. The synergy between the catalytic activity of the double hydroxide and the enhanced electron transport arising from the graphene resulted in superior electrocatalytic properties of the FeNi‐GO hybrids for the OER with overpotentials as low as 0.21 V, which was further reduced to 0.195 V after the reduction treatment. Moreover, the turnover frequency at the overpotential of 0.3 V has reached 1 s?1, which is much higher than those previously reported for non‐noble‐metal‐based electrocatalysts.

Implementing sustainable energy conversion and storage technologies is highly reliant on crucial oxygen electrocatalysis, such as the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the pursuit of low cost, energetic efficient and robust bifunctional catalysts for OER and ORR remains a great challenge. Herein, the novel Na-ion-deficient Na2−xCoP2O7 catalysts are proposed to efficiently electrocatalyze OER and ORR in alkaline solution. The engineering of Na-ion deficiency can tune the electronic structure of Co, and thus tailor the intrinsically electrocatalytic performance. Among the sodium cobalt phosphate catalysts, the Na1.95CoP2O7 (NCPO5) catalyst exhibits the lowest ΔE (EJ10,OER−EJ−1,ORR) of only 0.86 V, which favorably outperforms most of the reported non-noble metal catalysts. Moreover, the Na-ion deficiency can stabilize the phase structure and morphology of NCPO5 during the OER and ORR processes. This study highlights the Na-ion deficient Na2−xCoP2O7 as a promising class of low-cost, highly active and robust bifunctional catalysts for OER and ORR.  相似文献

The development of high-efficiency bifunctional electrocatalysts toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline surroundings is essential and challenging for the large-scale generation of clean hydrogen. Herein, a novel self-assembled two-dimensional (2 D) NiO/CeO2 heterostructure (HS) consisting of NiO and CeO2 nanocrystals is prepared through a facile two-step approach, and utilized as an enhanced bifunctional electrocatalyst for the HER and OER under alkaline conditions. It is concluded that this 2 D NiO/CeO2 HS, rich in oxygen vacancies, demonstrates attractive electrocatalytic properties for both the HER and OER in 1 m KOH, including low onset overpotential (η1), η10 and Tafel slope, excellent durability, as well as large active surface area. Therefore, the self-assembled 2 D NiO/CeO2 HS is believed to be an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst toward the HER and OER.  相似文献

Transition-metal selenides are emerging as alternative bifunctional catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR); however, their activity and stability are still less than desirable. Herein, ultrafine Co0.85Se nanoparticles encapsulated into carbon nanofibers (CNFs), Co0.85Se@CNFs, is reported as an integrated bifunctional catalyst for OER and ORR. This catalyst exhibits a low OER potential of 1.58 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) (EJ=10, OER) to achieve a current density (J) of 10 mA cm−2 and a high ORR potential of 0.84 V vs. RHE (EJ=−1, ORR) to reach −1 mA cm−2. Thus, the potential between EJ=10, OER and EJ=−1, ORR is only 0.74 V, indicating considerable bifunctional activity. The excellent bifunctionality can be attributed to high electronic conduction, abundant electrochemically active sites, and the synergistic effect of Co0.85Se and CNFs. Furthermore, this Co0.85Se@CNFs catalyst displays good cycling stability for both OER and ORR. This study paves a new way for the rational design of hybrid catalysts composed of transition-metal selenides and carbon materials for efficiently catalyzing OER and ORR.  相似文献

La0.3(Ba0.5Sr0.5)0.7Co0.8Fe0.2O3?δ is a promising bifunctional perovskite catalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction and the oxygen evolution reaction. This catalyst has circa 10 nm‐scale rhombohedral LaCoO3 cobaltite particles distributed on the surface. The dynamic microstructure phenomena are attributed to the charge imbalance from the replacement of A‐site cations with La3+ and local stress on Co‐site sub‐lattice with the cubic perovskite structure.  相似文献

For the advancement of electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies, bifunctional electrocatalysts are crucial for efficiently driving both the oxygen evolution (OER) and reduction reactions (ORR). Cobalt-based spinel oxides are a class of promising bifunctional electrocatalysts. However their low electrical conductivity and stability may hinder further improvement. A novel composite material composed of NiCo2O4 nanoparticles integrated with emerging two dimensional MXene nanosheets (NiCo2O4/MXene) was developed. The successful integration of NiCo2O4 with MXene brings about a number of attractive structural features. This includes synergistic effects between NiCo2O4 and MXene, highly accessible surface areas, complete exposure of numerous active sites, and excellent electronic conductivity, all of which collectively contribute to the desirability of composite material for OER and ORR. The synthesized NiCo2O4/MXene composite showed extraordinary OER electrocatalytic activity with a lower overpotential of 360 mV at a current density of 10 mA/cm2, and a small Tafel slope of 64 mV/dec compared to NiCo2O4, MXene and NiCo2O4+MXene (physically mixed). Additionally, NiCo2O4/MXene displays an ORR limiting current density of −4 mA/cm2 and exhibited highest onset potential and half wave potential of 0.92 V and 0.72 V vs. RHE, respectively, for the ORR in alkaline media compared to NiCo2O4, MXene and NiCo2O4+MXene (physically mixed).  相似文献

Developing highly active catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of paramount importance for designing various renewable energy storage and conversion devices. Herein, we report the synthesis of a category of Co‐Pi analogue, namely cobalt‐based borate (Co‐Bi) ultrathin nanosheets/graphene hybrid by a room‐temperature synthesis approach. Benefiting from the high surface active sites exposure yield, enhanced electron transfer capacity, and strong synergetic coupled effect, this Co‐Bi NS/G hybrid shows high catalytic activity with current density of 10 mA cm?2 at overpotential of 290 mV and Tafel slope of 53 mV dec?1 in alkaline medium. Moreover, Co‐Bi NS/G electrocatalysts also exhibit promising performance under neutral conditions, with a low onset potential of 235 mV and high current density of 14.4 mA cm?2 at 1.8 V, which is the best OER performance among well‐developed Co‐based OER electrocatalysts to date. Our finding paves a way to develop highly active OER electrocatalysts.  相似文献

The oxygen vacancies of defective iron–cobalt oxide (FeCoOx‐Vo) nanosheets are modified by the homogeneously distributed sulfur (S) atoms. S atoms can not only effectively stabilize oxygen vacancies (Vo), but also form the Co?S coordination with Co active site in the Vo, which can modulate the electronic structure of the active site, enabling FeCoOx‐Vo‐S to exhibit much superior OER activity. FeCoOx‐Vo‐S exhibits a mass activity of 2440.0 A g?1 at 1.5 V vs. RHE in 1.0 m KOH, 25.4 times higher than that of RuO2. The Tafel slope is as low as 21.0 mV dec?1, indicative of its excellent charge transfer rate. When FeCoOx‐Vo‐S (anode catalyst) is paired with the defective CoP3/Ni2P (cathode catalyst) for overall water splitting, current densities of as high as 249.0 mA cm?2 and 406.0 mA cm?2 at a cell voltage of 2.0 V and 2.3 V, respectively, can be achieved.  相似文献

Herein, an ordinary and mass-production approach is reported to synthesize boron (B) and nitrogen (N) co-doped three-dimensional (3D) carbon aerogels (CA) by using glucose and borax as the raw materials by a simple hydrothermal method and then carbonization in NH3 atmosphere. The porous material (BN-CA-900) possesses a large specific surface area (1032 m2 g−1) and high contents of doped pyridinic N and graphitic N. The onset potential (0.91 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE), half-wave potential (0.77 V vs. RHE), and current density (5.70 mA cm−2 at 0.2 V vs. RHE) of BN-CA-900 for ORR are similar to those of commercial Pt/C, indicating that BN-CA-900 has a comparable catalytic activity with Pt/C in alkaline media. The number of electron transfer is 3.86–3.99 and the yield of hydrogen peroxide is less than 6.8 %. BN-CA-900 also presents decent catalytic performance in acidic medium. Moreover, the stability and methanol tolerance of BN-CA-900 are superior to commercial Pt/C in both alkaline and acidic media. The prepared BN-CA-900 is a promising candidate that may be applied in other areas, such as the adsorption of pollution, porous conductive electrodes, and lithium-ion batteries.  相似文献

Transition-metal phosphates have been widely applied as promising candidates for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. In this study, we report a simple method to prepare a N, F co-doped mesoporous cobalt phosphate with rich-oxygen vacancies by in-situ pyrolysis of a Co-phosphate precursor with NH4+ cations and F anions. Due to this heteroatom doping, it could achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm2 at lower overpotential of 276 mV and smaller Tafel slope of 57.11 mV dec−1 on glassy carbon. Moreover, it could keep 92 % of initial current density for 35 h, indicating it has an excellent stability and durability. Furthermore, the optimal material applied in supercapacitor displays specific capacitance of 206.3 F g−1 at 1 A ⋅ g−1 and maintains cycling stability with 80 % after 3000 cycles. The excellent electrochemical properties should be attributed to N, F co-doping into this Co-based phosphate, which effectively modulates its electronic structure. In addition, its amorphous structure provides more active sites; moreover, its mesoporous structure should be beneficial to mass transfer and electrolyte diffusion.  相似文献

Designing and preparing porous materials without using any templates is a challenge. Herein, single‐nozzle electrospinning technology coupled with post pyrolysis is applied to prepare cobalt nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon nanofibers with a hierarchical pore structure (HP‐Co‐NCNFs). The resultant HP‐Co‐NCNFs have lengths up to several millimeters with an average diameter of 200 nm and possess abundant micro/meso/macropores on both the surface and within the fibers. Such a microstructure endows the surface area as high as 115 m2 g?1. When used as an electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the HP‐Co‐NCNFs exhibit outstanding electrochemical performance in terms of activity, methanol tolerance, and durability. The hierarchically porous structure and high surface area can effectively decrease the mass transport resistance and increase the exposed ORR active sites. The sufficient amount of exposed ORR active sites along with accessible transport channel and enhanced electrical conductivity may be responsible for the good electrocatalytic performance.  相似文献

Electrochemical splitting of water to produce hydrogen and oxygen is an important process for many energy storage and conversion devices. Developing efficient, durable, low‐cost, and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great urgency. To achieve the rapid synthesis of transition‐metal nitride nanostructures and improve their electrocatalytic performance, a new strategy has been developed to convert cobalt oxide precursors into cobalt nitride nanowires through N2 radio frequency plasma treatment. This method requires significantly shorter reaction times (about 1 min) at room temperature compared to conventional high‐temperature NH3 annealing which requires a few hours. The plasma treatment significantly enhances the OER activity, as evidenced by a low overpotential of 290 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm?2, a small Tafel slope, and long‐term durability in an alkaline electrolyte.  相似文献

Graphene-based materials have attracted considerable attention as promising electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and as electrode materials for supercapacitors. In this work, electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in the presence of 4-aminebenzoic acid (4-ABA) is used as a one-step method to prepare graphene oxide materials (EGO) functionalized with aminobenzoic acid (EGO-ABA). The EGO and EGO-ABAs materials were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the EGO-ABA materials have smaller flake size and higher density of oxygenated functional groups compared to bare EGO. The electrochemical studies showed that the EGO-ABA catalysts have higher activity for the ORR to H2O2 in alkaline medium compared to EGO due to their higher density of oxygenated functional groups. However, bare EGO has a higher selectivity for the 2-electron process (81%) compared to the EGO-ABA (between 64 and 72%) which was related to a lower content of carbonyl groups. The specific capacitance of the EGO-ABA materials was higher than that of EGO, with an increase by a factor of 3 for the materials prepared from exfoliation in 5 mM 4-ABA/0.1 M H2SO4. This electrode material also showed a remarkable cycling capability with a loss of only 19.4% after 5000 cycles at 50 mVs−1.  相似文献
