Let G be a finite group, let A be a group of automorphisms of G and let CG(A) denote the subgroup of fixed points of A in G. If the order of CG(A) is coprime to the number of orbits of A in G, then CG(A) is contained in the autocommutator subgroup [G, A]. The notion of class-avoiding automorphism is used to extend theorems of J. Thompson and P. Rowley.

cohomology of the real locus of the moduli space of stable genus 0 curves with n marked points. We determine the graded character of the action of Sn on this space (induced by permutations of the marked points), both in the form of a plethystic formula for the cycle index,
and as an explicit product formula for the value of the character on a given cycle type.

Let H be a subgroup of a finite group G, and assume that p is a prime that does not divide |G : H|. In favorable circumstances, one can use transfer theory to deduce that the largest abelian p-groups that occur as factor groups of G and of H are isomorphic. When this happens, Tate’s theorem guarantees that the largest not-necessarily-abelian p-groups that occur as factor groups of G and H are isomorphic. Known proofs of Tate’s theorem involve cohomology or character theory, but in this paper, a new elementary
proof is given. It is also shown that the largest abelian p-factor group of G is always isomorphic to a direct factor of the largest abelian p-factor group of H.

This note studies the structure of the divisorial fixed part of for a 1-connected curve D on a smooth surface S. It is shown that if the divisorial fixed part F of is non empty then it has arithmetic genus ≤ 0 and each component of F is a smooth rational curve.
