The spin magnetic moment $\mu^{\overline{p}}_{s}$ of the antiproton can be determined by comparing the measured transition frequencies in $\overline{p}^4$ He?+? with three-body QED calculations. A comparison between the proton and antiproton can then be used as a test of CPT invariance. The highest measurement precision of the difference between the proton and the antiproton spin magnetic moments to date is 0.3%. A new experimental value of the spin magnetic moment of the antiproton was obtained as $\mu^{\overline{p}}_{s} = -2.7862(83)\mu_{N}$ , slightly better than the previously best measurement. This agrees with $\mu^{p}_{s}$ within 0.24%. In 2009, a new measurement with antiprotonic 3He has been started. A comparison between the theoretical calculations and experimental results would lead to a stronger test of the theory and address systematic errors therein. A measurement of this state will be the first HF measurement on $\overline{p}^3$ He?+?. We report here on the new experimental setup and the first tests.  相似文献

We shall present here the first experimental results for microwave spectroscopy of the hyperfine structure of antiprotonic He-3 and a comparison to numerical simulations of the measurement. Due to the helium nuclear spin, antiprotonic He-3 has a more complex hyperfine structure than antiprotonic He-4 which has already been studied before. Thus a comparison between theoretical calculations and the experimental results will provide a more stringent test of the three-body quantum electrodynamics (QED) theory. The comparison of measured data to simulations allows to investigate the collisional processes between the helium atoms of the target medium and the antiprotonic helium atomcules. The collision rates can not be calculated exactly, but estimated by comparison of numeric simulations with the experimental results. Two out of four super-super-hyperfine (SSHF) transition lines of the (n, L)?=?(36, 34) state were observed. The measured frequencies of the individual transitions are 11.12559(14)?GHz and 11.15839(18)?GHz, less than 1?MHz higher than the current theoretical values, but still within their estimated errors. The frequency difference between the two lines also agrees with theoretical calculations.  相似文献

The strong ¯p-nucleus spin-orbit interaction was investigated in a measurement of the strong-interaction effects of the 9→8 transition in ¯p 174Yb at the Low-Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN. This measurement was part of an experimental programme where, for the first time, the fine-structure components of the last observable X-ray transition in a ¯p atom, which carries information on the strong ¯p-nucleus interaction, were resolved and studied individually. The observed splitting ΔE exp=2408±26 eV consists of the electromagnetic fine-structure splitting ΔE FS=2350 eV and an additional splitting Δ?=58±26 eV. In addition, one finds a significant difference in the level widths of Δ=195±59 eV with the larger value?=1216±41 eV for the lower fine-structure level. This experiment follows an earlier measurement on ¯p 138Ba, where the transition 8→7 is influenced by the strong interaction. In this case, however, the fine-structure components could not be resolved. The results for174Yb may be attributed to a spin-orbit (LS) term in the complex strong-interaction potential.  相似文献

Antiprotonic X-rays from the helium isotopes have been observed at pressures of 36, 72, 375 and 600 mbar. The antiproton beam from LEAR with momenta of 309 and 202 MeV/c has been stopped at these pressures using the cyclotron trap. The X-rays were detected with Si (Li) and intrinsic Ge semiconductor detectors. Absolute X-ray yields were determined and the strong-interaction 2p shifts and the 2p and 3d broadenings measured to be 2p=(–17±4) eV, 2p=(25±9) eV and 3d=(2.14 ±0.18) meV for ¯p3He and 2p=(-18±2) eV, 2p =(45±5) eV and 3d=(2.36±0.10) meV for ¯p4He.The efforts of the LEAR staff and the help of P. Gauss from the CERN Cryogenic Group as well as the technical assistance of M. Dröge and M. Stoll are gratefully acknowledged. This paper discusses the level splitting of the antiprotonic helium atomcule, an exotic atom consisting of a helium nucleus, an electron, and an antiproton which occupies highly excited states with angular momentum of L ≈ 30–35. The observation of a splitting in a laser transition between two levels is presented, and an experiment in preparation at the forthcoming AD facility at CERN is described which aims at directly measuring the level splitting by using a 2-laser microwave triple resonance technique. This experiment has the potential to determine the magnetic moment of the antiproton with higher precision than currently known. The onset of antiprotonic X-ray transitions at high principal quantum numbers and the occurrence of electronic X-rays in antiprotonic argon, krypton, and xenon has been analyzed with the help of Multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock calculations. The shell-by-shell ionisation by Auger electron emission, characterised by appearance and disappearance of X-ray lines, is followed through the antiprotonic cascade by considering transition and binding energies of both the antiproton and the remaining electrons. Electronic lines could be attributed partly to specific states of the antiprotonic atom de-excitation.  相似文献

The phase composition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with encapsulated iron atoms was examined by 57Fe M?ssbauer spectroscopy. Collisions of metastable antiprotonic helium with ordinary He atoms can induce transitions between hyperfine structure (HFS) sublevels and thus relaxation of the populations as well as shift and broadening of M1 microwave spectral lines. Previously we have considered these effects, using quantum close-coupling method for the collisions and the model interatomic interaction involving tensor term (Korenman and Yudin, J Phys B At Mol Opt Phys 39:1473–1484, 2006). In this paper we extend the consideration in two lines: (i) collisional transition rates, shifts and broadenings of M1-lines are considered in relation to the strength of the tensor interaction; (ii) time evolution of the density matrix of HFS states is considered using the generalized master equation with the calculated elementary characteristics. A good agreement with the recent experimental data on the time dependence of optimum signal-to-noise ratio and of linewidth is obtained using the strength of tensor interactions as a free parameter.  相似文献

Anomalous bands are reported in the He II spectra of diatomic and triatomic molecules which are attributed to excitation of a second electron along with the primary ionization. This dual process is made possible by the mixing of ionized states of the same symmetry but different configurations i.e. by configuration interaction between ionized states. The close relationship between the observed bands and those reported in X-ray spectra which result from the so-called shake-up process is discussed.  相似文献

Experimental evidence for the correlated two-electron one-photon transitions (1s(-2)→2s(-1)2p(-1)) following single-photon K-shell double ionization is reported. The double K-shell vacancy states in solid Mg, Al, and Si were produced by means of monochromatized synchrotron radiation, and the two-electron one-photon radiative transitions were observed by using a wavelength dispersive spectrometer. The two-electron one-photon transition energies and the branching ratios of the radiative one-electron to two-electron transitions were determined and compared to available perturbation theory predictions and configuration interaction calculations.  相似文献

Initial distributions of metastable antiprotonic (4)He and (3)He atoms over principal (n) and angular momentum (l) quantum numbers have been deduced using laser spectroscopy experiments. The regions n = 37-40 and n = 35-38 in the two atoms account for almost all of the observed fractions [(3.0 +/- 0.1)% and (2.4 +/- 0.1)%] of antiprotons captured into metastable states.  相似文献
