AbstractThe spectrum of surface polaritons in a dielectric at a boundary with an ideal metal or a super-conductor in crossed constant electric and magnetic fields is studied. It is shown that the polariton spectrum possesses strong nonreciprocity (polaritons with fixed frequency propagate only in one direction; this is the rectification effect) and depends strongly on the directions of the external fields and their ratios H 0/E 0.  相似文献

We obtained the dispersion relation for surface polaritons propagating across a metal film upon which a periodic grating has been impressed in one face. We employed the method of reduced Rayleigh equations, and found that the surface polariton dispersion curve has an infinite number of branches. Assuming a dielectric function of a free-electron metal for the film and a sinusoidal profile function, numerical solutions were obtained for films with different thicknesses. We observed that the convergence of the method depends on the film thickness.  相似文献

The theory is worked out which considers reflection of surface polaritons normally incident on a vertical dielectric barrier. The theory is based upon treatments of interactions of localized and non-localized eigen modes of the system. For the cases of plasmon and phonon polaritons calculated are the reflection and transmission coefficients of polaritons and the energy diagrams of volume waves excited during reflection.  相似文献

The behavior of surface polaritons that can propagate along a flat interface between a polarized Dirac vacuum and a normal metal is studied. Dispersion relations for the surface wave are derived for different field polarizations, and the frequency domains where this wave may exist are found. It is shown that a constant electric field polarizing a Dirac vacuum can be determined from experiments on surface wave excitation.  相似文献

通过观察金属底板中周期地嵌入电介质球壳的体系的光学吸收性质,研究了表面等离子激元 以及与其他电磁模式的耦合特性.在这种周期结构的金属表面,发现存在两种响应频率,分 别对应于表面等离子激元模式和金属中的电介质腔体模式.在这些响应频率上,可观察到与 它们相对应的吸收峰.由于金属的表面模式不能与平面入射光直接耦合,而腔体模式与平面 入射光和表面等离子激元模式的耦合一般较弱,因而通常情况下这些吸收峰的峰值有限.然 而,通过调整体系中的某些参数,可以使腔体模式和表面模式的频率非常接近,这时二者之 间的耦合强度将大大提高.此时,在相应的频率附近可观察到极强的吸收峰.详细地研究了介 质球壳的物理和几何参数对此共振吸收的影响. 关键词: 腔体模式 表面等离子体模式 共振吸收  相似文献

We derive a formula using closed-orbit theory for the photodetachment cross-section of H- in the presence of a static electric field when there is an arbitrary angle θL between the laser polarization direction and the static electric field. This formula generalizes the previous result for laser polarization parallel to the static electric field, the effect of laser polarization direction appears as a factor cos2L) in the amplitude of the oscillation. A photodetachment cross-section formula valid above and below detachment threshold is proposed.  相似文献

The effect of an external polarizing electric field on the shear wave propagation in a centrosymmetric crystal with electrostriction, whose body is penetrated with parallel cylindrical cavities (pores), is considered. The cavities are distributed throughout the crystal at random and with a low density. The waves are assumed to be polarized along the cavity generatrices, and the wave propagation occurs in the elastic isotropy plane, which is orthogonal to the cavity axes. The external field is assumed to be axial. Possibility of controlling the propagation of shear waves by the polarizing field is demonstrated for the case of metallized cavity surfaces.  相似文献

We discuss the surface plasmon-polaritons used for ultrathin metal films with the aid of linear response theory and make comparisons with the known result given by Economou E N. In this paper we consider transverse electromagnetic fields and assume that the electromagnetic field in the linear response formula is the induced field due to the current of the electrons. It satisfies the Maxwell equation and thus we replace the current (charge) term in the Maxwell equation with the linear response expectation value. Finally,taking the external field to be zero,we obtain the dispersion relation of the surface plasmons from the eigenvalue equation. In addition,the charge-density and current-density in the z direction on the surface of ultrathin metal films are also calculated. The results may be helpful to the fundamental understanding of the complex phenomenon of surface plasmon-polaritons.  相似文献

Metal films grown on Si wafer have been perforated with a periodic hole array and anomalous enhanced transmission in the subwavelength regime has been observed. High-order transmission peaks up to Si(2,2) are clearly revealed due to the large dielectric constant of Si against that of the air. Si(1,1) peak splits into two branches at oblique incidence both in TE and in TM polarization, which confirms that anomalous enhanced transmission is a surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) assisted diffraction phenomenon.  相似文献

The surface plasmonic polariton (SPP) of a transversely-truncated metal/dielectric superlattice (SL) structure has been solved with an approximate method. The effect of inter-layer interfaces in the SL is taken into consideration efficiently in comparison with the effective-medium method. The silver/air and silver/SiO2 SLs with a shorter period are regarded as two specific examples in numerical calculation. A series of separated SPP modes are found and highly localized at the surface, and the highest-frequency mode is the only one also predicated by the effective-medium method. These results obviously show the effect of inter-layer interfaces in the case of short period, whilst the reliability and limitation of the effective-medium method is presented as well. Because the skin depths of the modes are extremely small, the SLs can be used as ideal surface-wave waveguides.  相似文献

Conditions for the existence of a surface polariton at the semiconductor-dielectric interface have been analyzed. With allowance for the gyrotropy and the resonance frequency dispersion of the semiconductor, which manifests itself in an external magnetic field, the dispersion relation, the characteristic frequencies determining the existence region of a surface polariton, the wave fields, and the energy flux distribution in each of the interfacing media have been obtained. A numerical analysis of the influence of the external field and absorption, which lead to the manifestation of nonreciprocal properties of the polariton and to a substantial reconstruction of the spectrum, has been performed.  相似文献

本文理论研究了5 fs,800 nm的左旋圆偏振和右旋圆偏振激光组合的偏振门方案叠加静电场作用下氦原子的高次谐波发射及阿秒脉冲的产生.研究发现,加入的静电场可以控制量子轨道,进而抑制量子干涉效应.当静电场系数α为0.1时,高次谐波谱出现双平台结构且比较平滑,通过小波分析,发现对第二平台有贡献的主要是一个短轨道,通过叠加第二平台区域50 eV(160 eV~210 eV)的连续谐波,我们得到了80 as的阿秒脉冲.  相似文献

The electric quadrupole interaction of the first excited 2+ state of188Os in hexagonal rhenium metal was investigated by means of the time-differential perturbed angular correlation technique. From the observed quadrupole frequencyV Q=170(7) MHz, we deduce an electric field gradient value of |Vzz|=4.77(23)·1021V/m2 for the system OsRe. The half-life of the 2+ state was measured to be 641(4)ps.  相似文献

Experimental data on the low frequency dielectric constant ? and the threshold field ET for the onset of sliding charge density wave conduction are presented for pure and niobium doped orthorhombic TaS3. It was found that the ?ET is independent of impurity concentration and of temperature in the temperature range between 100 K to 190 K. We point out that the classical single particle model of Grüner, Zawadowski, and Chaikin; the deformable medium model of Fukuyama and Lee and the semiconductor model of Bardeen all predict ?ET to be independent of impurity concentration. The numerical estimates are within an order of magnitude in agreement with the present experiments.  相似文献
